Very friendly staff. Inexpensive Beers Lagers etc. Highly recommend this place. Even just to pop in while shopping. Update 10.12.2021. I just love this place with an amazing owner and staff.

The Wheelwright Arms is probably the most central pub in Kingston. We just fancied a drink and it was convenient. It is small and narrow and could do with some updating. We believe they sell food here but we did not eat here, The service like the pub was average. It just suited us at the time because of its location

Horrible place. Bar maid took an instant dislike to us, not sure why. We were apparently too loud and were very conscious of our noise level after that.

Came in 12:10 kitchen was closed due to member being late. Came in again 14:30 they said they have closed the kitchen although their kitchen is opened 12:00-15:00. Absolute disappointment especially on a Friday lunch time and a lot of people in the area. i think you need to review this, and if you cannot serve food then shouldn’t advertise it as bening available 12:00-15:00.

Says ‘friendly’ sports bar on the website but the place smelled of urine and was full of the town’s ‘village idiots’! Once I heard the ‘c’ word a couple of times I realised that it wasn’t the place to watch the football with my wife. Sad but I think that’s how the landlord / owner probably likes it ….rough and geezeresque. All in all the place needs a clean to remove all the ‘smells’!

This is one of those pubs I've always wanted to go into but never quite plucked the courage to do so. Then once you're in, you wonder why you took so long. Tucked away behind a row of barbers, banks and takeaways, it survived the history destroying ring road creation that encases Kingston. It sticks out despite being hidden, as a building that doesn't quite belong in this part of town. The saloon type doors give way to the bar, a TV on opposite sides of the wall, there's a symmetry to the place, and you're spoiled for choice for where to go. You could people-watch at the right side, a prime spot, quite literally watching the world go by. Or you can go to the left, a favoured position of the locals, presumably due to the proximity to the jukebox, slot machine, toilets and "terrace". I perched on the corner of the bar, couple of pints of Fosters. Cash accepted, both pints south of a fiver. Unfortunately I'd missed the cut off for the sandwiches, genuinely gutted, few places offer this fine line between "pub snack" and "pub food". Intrigued by the need to specify the quality of the 50/50 bread. Sausage and onions will be the priority next time. They show all the football here, a worthy escape from the town centre to sneak in part or all of a game. That being said, I'd probably make a point of coming here specifically for the game. The pints are cheap, the staff are friendly, it's spacious and quiet. It has a predictability to it, a calmness, depending on your objective - whether it's many pints or recovery mode, this place could tick both boxes. Pubs like this are a dying breed, this one has even been knocked down and rebuilt further back (c.1950), had it not, the ringroad would've obliterated it. As so much of Kingston's history gets sold off to make luxury flats and questionably affordable housing, I don't think we'd ever get a say in the matter if this were to go. But I'm glad I've been now, and I'm looking forward to going back.

Stopped here for a few drinks. We were greeted by ‘ we are closing at 10 ‘. There was 13 other customers present. Throughout the pandemic, hospitality has been hit hard, so why close early. The pubs prime function is to sell food and drinks to its customers in a way that hopefully will entice them back. If you close early, we most definitely will not be back.

Saturday evening 5th October and we visited here with friends for an after dinner drink. The bar was very close to the restaurant we had been to so it was convenient. It was not very busy so we easily found a table to accommodate the 8 of us. We ordered our drinks, which we thought were a tad pricey even for a town centre pub. Having said that we did stay for a few more drinks, found it to be comfortable and good service. In another local bar our normal 2 drinks costed £7.10, however here they were £8.50. The gents toilet was a bit of a swap, apart from that everywhere else was clean and tidy

There's been a sense, in recent years, that the dear old Wheelwrights Arms in the heart of Kingston - not far from the famous tumbling telephone box sculpture - is just clinging on. It still gets a few customers at lunchtime, but in the evening it is the bigger, brasher pubs and nightclubs that the younger patrons aim for, leaving this as an old-fashioned, small, slightly cramped corner pub from a different era. The focus seems to be on TV sport nowadays. Long-term, you fear for its future. It's a prominent corner site that could easily be snaffled up by a bank or building society.

We booked the bottomless brunch on the 31st August. We was expecting a live DJ as advertised on the website. When we arrived there was no DJ and when we asked about it we was told that unfortunately the DJ cancelled. We was told we could play music through our phone! They then took ages to serve us our drinks during the bottomless timescale, and overcharged us on our bill. They also charged us a service charge for very poor service! It was a massive let down, especially as this was part of a hen weekend. The place was empty aswell & i'm not surprised. I wouldn't recommend.
