A lovely pub in the heart of the village ! we visited on Sunday evening and it was very busy and packed due to a local music event nearby !The food was excellent it was freshly cooked and served piping hot and we were grateful to be able to eat after travelling down from North Wales . A good selection of ciders was on offer along with other drinks . . We like to say thank you to the lady serving us our food and the gentleman behind the bar both were very courteous and helpful .

We visited as a group of 6 for Sunday lunch as we were staying in a farmhouse nearby. 5 of us had beef and 1 had chicken. The plates were brought to us with piping hot food and separate dishes with vegetables. All the food was delicious. The comment I wish to make is how friendly and welcoming the people are at the Wheel Wright Arms, they took time to chat to us and have a laugh with us all.

We stopped for an evening meal at The Wheelwrights Arms whilst staying in the local area on a camping holiday. The landlord was welcoming, the menu was varied and the food and drink were very tasty (local beer and cider). The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly and it was good to see that the pub was popular with local people as well as visitors. We would definitely return if we were staying in the area again.

We stopped at the Wheelwright Arms for a light meal on our journey from The Valleys back up to North Wales. As both of us are vegetarians, we expect less choice than carnivores but were pleasantly surprised to find five good options of proper pub grub. We chose the veggie lasagne and a broccoli and cream cheese bake, both of which were extremely tasty and of good portion size. It was a very friendly pub in terms of staff and customers, as well as a very affectionate black cat! Thanks for refuelling us well on our long and, as it ended up later, wet drive home. Much appreciated.

Was visiting Crickadarn village (recreating american werewolf in london scenes) and thought we would stop off here for lunch. Lovely sunny day so sat in beer garden. Plenty of parking at rear of pub. Lunch was lovely scampi and steak pie. Both meals piping hot, delicious. Also purchased some brownies off the bar.....they were fantastic. Highly recommend if you're in the area. Drinks and lunch for 2 plus cakes, and change out of £40. Thanks very much!

Couldn’t of spent my birthday lunch in a better place. Firstly, the landlord & the lady & gentleman I spoke to were the loveliest people, very welcoming & never laughed so much. Secondly I had stupidly parked on a slope & couldn’t get the car to reverse so the amazing landlord went and done that for me. Thirdly the food was so lovely & to top it all the landlord gave me two little cakes, but apologised for not having a candle🤣. I will DEFINITELY go back and HIGHLY recommend. Thank you so much for making my day.

A group of our friends met up here for a catch up and some food and drinks after it was recommended to us. Our table was through the bar up a narrow dirty stairs. There was a small menu of the usual pub grub, plus a specials board. The food came in a timely fashion but without chips. When the chips came they came in a basket and there wasn't enough for everyone sat at the table. When the waitress be came to check on us we had to ask for more chips. The dessert were a very good in size and tasty.

Me and my wife were staying nearby, and this was the closest place for a feed so we drove down. The first night, we arrived whilst a rugby game was on and the atmosphere was great and we enjoyed all the noise and excitement whilst enjoying our great food and drink, remarking how great value it all was.The next night, we came back and, as there was no rugby that night, it was a much quieter affair, but we were recognised by Neil the night before and he asked "back for more punishment?" From that moment, the patrons and owners of the pub made us feel like honorary owners of it. Neil took our orders, made recommendations and served all of our food too before inviting us to join him, Glen, Paul and Dave for a few drinks and laughs in the 'naughty corner'.Me and my wife, being from other countries, haven't ever experienced hospitality and welcoming as great as this in our lives and we often joke and think fondly of our 2 nights in Wales because of this. We are desperately hoping to be able to come back and say hello before leaving the UK. To anyone else, please do not miss the chance to go here. Not only if you are in the area, make the effort to go there from London or even Edinburgh, it is a beautiful area, but the pub and their people are even more so. It was a privilege to eat there. Go there and support great food, great drink, great prices and amazing people. From your favourite Aussie and Russian couple!

Whilst staying (walking holiday) in Erwood alongside the Wye river in a beautiful part of Wales (Powys) I went to The Wheelwright Arms with my son in law for an evening drink & found it to be very welcoming, the landlord Dave was a great host,I could see why the pub was busy with people eating as well a drinking,we sat & chatted with some of the 'regulars' who were also very friendly, considering this is a 'village' pub it was not in the least bit cliquey as some 'local' pubs can be,I put this down to Dave's way of running his pub & of course his customers. There was a great selection of dishes available, written up on a blackboard,we decided on our last night it would be a great way to finish off our holiday,we enquired of Dave whether it would be okay to bring 2 well behaved dogs, which it was.Our party consisted of myself,my wife, daughter, son in law & their 2 1/2 year old daughter (our lovely granddaughter). We all selected different dishes (& a childs meal) & were all delighted with our choices, some had chips which were served up in a very large bowl,Dave said to just say if we wanted more, but there was more than enough. If driving on the A470 passing through Erwood & you want reasonably priced good food this is well worth considering (parking available) & if I'm ever in the area I would be delighted to eat/drink here again. Thanks to Dave, his staff & the customers who made us feel welcome.

We were staying near by (in Welsh terms about 5 miles up a hillside) and this turned out to be out local. Great little find. We were motorbiking in the area and yet dumping our kit in the corner was no problem. The landlady welcomed us and quickly checked whether we wanted food as the kitchen was closing soon. This was about 9pm and probably later. Food ordered of cooked duck "best I have ever tasted", lasagne and 2 beef in ale pies. All served with veg/chip/rice "whatever you fancy". Portions were generous (and we are 4 beefy middle-aged men). Plates were emptied and just the right amount of beer to keep us legal was tried. All in all a great couple of hours in this "little beauty".Recommended

Came here on a Saturday night a few weeks ago. Friendly service, great food. Huge choice on the menu - something to suit all tastes. Very generous portions. Great value for money. The only reason I’m giving this place a 4 instead of a 5 is that they allow dogs, which I don’t agree with for health and safety reasons. Like many other asthmatics, I’m allergic to dogs, and also have a phobia. It was extremely unpleasant to have two large dogs at the table behind us. One of the dogs came right up close to one of my fellow diners while we were eating our food. The other dog growled and snapped at the waitress while she was delivering our food. I felt extremely uncomfortable. Pubs are for people, not animals. They should be left at home. This is the only thing that lets this place down. It’s a shame as, as I said, the food is great.

Worth the stop or even a diversion. At first glance it looks like an old man pub, helped by a local or two in the corners. However, food and beer is top rate. Despite being New Years Day, and cleatly after a very enjoyable New Yeas Eve, the pub was so welcoming. There is a fantastic choice of food at a very affordable price. If you are passing, it is a must!!

Always a friendly crowd, great food and nothing is too much trouble. Fancy a takeaway Sunday Roast Dinner, no problem, give 'em a ring and it's ready and waiting, piping hot complete with separate container of gravy; perfect for treating the in-laws who prefer to eat at home. We regularly take our friendly Doberman and she's always welcome and fussed over by the locals and staff. Would recommend to anyone.

I stayed in Erwood for 4 nights while walking in The Brecons and ended up eating here each night. I was made to feel very welcome by both the staff and the regulars. The food was excellent with generous portions and good value, ideal after the long walks.

Popped in today after a walk along the Wye with the dog in tow. Although the pub was busy at half past 12 a table was found for us. The staff were fantastic and the roast dinner was amazing. Not only was the lamb beautifully cooked and my plate had a very generous portion it was accompanied by roast tats and parsnips, creamed leeks, cauliflower cheese, carrot, boiled spuds, swede, runner beans and peas. Jo being a veggie was a bit wary of eating here but her spinach and mushroom lasagne with salad did the trick. The charm of this pub isn't just the food its the fact that its a proper country pub - selling jams, chutneys and fresh eggs. Will come again - even the dog was given her own bowl of water by the owner.

It's a great local pub, serving food everyday. There's a warm welcome, great staff and service with lots of choice on the menu. I had the steak and ale pie followed by sticky date pudding. Both were homemade and delicious! Perfect on a chilly night! Definitely recommend a visit. Plenty of vegetarian dishes on the menu too.

We have been visiting The Drover's for around 25 years. As a full Family initially, now just the two of us. Peter and his Team never disappoint. The welcome is always friendly and we do enjoy a modest pre Lunch drink in the cosy snug out the back. The views of the river are spectacular. It was a bit chilly to be sitting outside on the balcony but one brave chap did take his coffee out there! The food, well, you can't call it 'just Sunday Lunch! It's a foodie treat! Plenty of beautifully cooked food. Always hot and tasty. The quality is certainly there as well. Cannot fault anything and the Sweets are to die for! The atmosphere is invariably pleasant. A good mixture of Walkers, Holiday makers and Locals. Thanks so much for everything over the years Peter. We're already in the process of booking next year's trip to Wales, so keep an eye out for an email soon!

Our first time here this morning. From the minute we walked in we was welcomed and seated. All staff were welcoming. Myself and fiancé ordered a full English, food was lovely not one fault and clear plates. I had a cappuccino which was tasty and perfect. We were approached and asked if everything was okay during our meal. We paid with cash and left a tip as we were very pleased. We will definitely be attending again on our next stay.

Great place to stay. A friend and I cycled to the area and stayed here overnight. The owner is very accommodating and friendly. The room is a generous size with all the facilities you would want, and you have access to an outside deck area with lounge chairs and table which is ideal on a sunny day. The breakfast was also lovely. The location was great as it’s a 5 min walk from 2 good pubs and a post office/shop

Mock timber frame manor house retaining much of its character and charm. No lifts. Breakfast was choose your own pre-packed cereals with a cooked option. Dinner was a mini-taster with delicious options which we watched cooked on TV cameras. The room was clean but dated with an en-suit crammed in. High windows restricted light and views of extensive gardens and river. The staff were friendly and willing but lacked service training. Guests our age do not wish to be called 'you guys'.
