We visited here on a day out in Cornwall. I had the monkfish, chorizo risotto which was amazing. It was supposed to be a starter but really filled me up amazing flavours. I finished off with the Baileys bread and butter pudding with custard which was really tasty. Definitely would visit again .

My partner and I were heading to a different restaurant on the weekend but could only find a parking space on the seafront. It was from here that we passed this restaurant and decided to have dinner here instead of the intended venue. We both enjoyed our meals and they were very reasonably priced. Upon arriving we were greeted by a friendly member of staff. For starters I had the breaded mushrooms which were nice, followed by the steak and ale pie which came with lovely homemade chips. Best of all was dessert and the large selection of cakes which were on offer. Overall it was a good meal but the wait to get the bill at the end was a bit long but to be fair it had started to get busy and the waitress had her hands full with an awkward customer.

Whilst visiting family just outside Penzance we were taken to this restaurant (at the Lugger Inn) for an evening carvery. We were greeted by a very welcoming lady behind the bar who recognised our family members from a previous visit & served us our drinks. We had a child with us so we sat near a 'toy box' there to keep any children occupied. We selected carvery meals, there was a choice from Turkey,Lamb,Pork,Gammon & Beef (well done or rare),any combination,up to three meats, we all chose three, all were cooked perfectly and good quality.A 'serve yourself' vegetable section including, crispy roast potatoes, broccoli & cauliflower in a cheese sauce, peas, swede, roast parsnips, mash potatoes, spinach in sauce, carrots, leeks (& more) and Yorkshire puddings and a lovely thick and tasty gravy. This was followed up with a choice of puddings from the chilled counter,my wife had a 'Diam bar'cheesecake with cream, which I had to help her with as it was large (I don't eat puddings, but it's a husbands duty to help out).As we were there for the carvery I did not look at a menu, but I was assured there was a full menu with children's menu as well.If I'm back in Penzance in the future I would love to eat here again,I know there will be a warm welcome.

On a day visit to Penzance. As title, I can't remember a better dish including many holidays in France/Brittany. The Whole Sea Bream was cooked to perfection, new potatoes with herbed butter and baked peppers, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes etc.....delightful. Whole experience was enjoyable, sea view, watching the world go by, staff were very helpful even though very busy. Would highly recommend, we will definitely return and with friends too.

We arrived without booking and were seated promptly on ordering drinks we were told they were only serving carvery today and the usual menu was off which was fine, we were told we would be waited at our table (which seemed a bit pointless as we could only order carvery), we waited for a good while, the pub was pretty empty but yet no-one came, in the end we went to the bar to order our carvery. The food however was lovely and the chef was attentive to requests such as preferring rarer or more well done meats. The food was good but the level of service poor, there had been music outside when we arrived and I got the impression the waitress would rather be out there. The usual menu seemed varied and we would return to try it.

Massive menu choice, almost too much really... There is a carvery, a two side evening menu and then a grill menu where you can get burgers, steak and pizzas. I had no idea what to choose, but in the end although I wanted everything I settled for a Steak Burger. It really is a steak in a bun! Fab home cut chips and a side salad. Continuing on the extensive menu comment, you can choose a Steak, 100% Beef or Chicken burger then you can choose what you want on it (Cue list a mile long) I understand people have different tastes but it is immense! Don't get me wrong, the food was great, service great and price was on par with other places. I just found the huge selection on the menu very overwhelming to the extent I did not know what I wanted, there was just so much on offer! Like the décor, but it seemed a little bit like it was filled with nic nacs I could have bought down the road in the gift shops. It seemed a very popular place for drinking, young and older crowd, atmosphere was good. Great view on the promenade, just felt it was a little OTT on the décor and the Menu choice. It wouldn't stop me going back though, I'd just need to spend longer deciding what food I wanted....

We called in on a busy Sunday lunchtime where people were queued for the Sunday Roast Special ... yes, we were there for Cream Tea as we had a big breakfast earlier in the day so we didn't need a lunch as such. However, we were served rock hard scones that had to be at least 4-5 days old with tacky miniature packet jams (not a bowl of jam) and a bowl of clotted cream.Of the 3 ingredients, it was only the clotted cream that gets a tick. How on God's earth can you serve up stale old rock hard scones??? .... just an absolute disgrace!

Saturday lunchtime. We never actually got any food. The menu on the board outside was enticing and the interior was in keeping with a seaside theme. A blackboard at the bar invited us to have a pasty and a pint but sadly these weren't yet cooked so not available. It is now 2.15pm so which clientele was the board aimed at? Not deterred, we ordered two wraps named after Greek Islands. 20 minutes later we enquired after our wraps only to be told they would be another 15 minutes. For a couple of wraps!? Had they gone to Greece to make them? We left. As it happens we found a wonderful little place along the promenade. Also reviewed. Too many establishments in this country need to get their act together with customer service. We need a sense of urgency, professionalism, dare I say communication between the kitchen and bar staff and pride in the job of serving customers - this is something that is not looked down on in other countries and we in the UK need to get a grip!

Very friendly welcome by the staff. They had both a la carte and a carvery the evenings we visited. Although the carvery was very tempting with pork, turkey and beef with a huge selection of vegetables, we decided to go a la carte. We had the tiger prawn and garlic bread to start with. For mains we had the seabass. We were treated to a whole seabass each and to our surprise we managed to almost finish it. The portions are big, well cooked and rustic. Definitely worth a visit.

More like a cafe than a restaurant. Cafe table and chairs etc. remove the surroundings and only on the food it was ok. Carvery was good lots of choice. Needs a lot of TLC to bring out of the 70s. I can see the attraction as we found nothing else in penzance. It has views over the bay and an outside dog friendly terrace. It has so much potential that looks like it has gone to waste.

We went for a look around Penzance while holidaying at St Ives at the end of April, and chanced upon The Wheelhouse on the seafront. We were attracted by the mouth-watering menu on the blackboard outside, and the delightful position looking out to sea. Although it was empty we were greeted by a very friendly girl who looked after us really well, and I was impressed at the very nautical atmosphere and attractive décor. Sadly we were not too impressed with the food; my sea food chowder, usually one of my favourite dishes, was quite heavy and as it cooled down turned into the consistency of porridge, although it was quite good value. Also it would have been nice if the forecourt of the hotel did not have some worker's van with workmen working just outside, but I guess this sort of thing can'e be helped,

We wanted to sample some of the restaurant around the area while on holiday, and we did sample a few around Penzance and other towns such as St Ives, Falmouth, Sennon to name a few. But on eating at the Wheelhouse for the well recommended Sunday carvery which was outstanding, and ended up staying all day being entertained by the outside music which was brilliant, and the weather made it great. We decided to return on the Monday to sample the other menu which also included an outside wood Pizza oven and grill. All we can say is WOW, the best Pizza I have tasted anywhere and my wife had an amazing fish dish. So for the remain 5 days of our stay we went no further and sampled most of the menu and it didn't disappoint, even the desserts were great. Excellent value for money and the bar was well stock and cheaper than some pubs in the area, which is unusual for a restaurant. The staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive. A real gem of a place that offers a day out... We will be back for your Mazey weekend (hope I spelt that correctly), to be fed, entertained along with the great views and of course have a dew drinks, hope the weather is good. If your staying in Penzance you need to visit here

We found this restaurant quite by chance on the second evening of our week-long holiday at the end of September. On the sea front, with lots of outside tables over-looking the sea, it was an ideal place at which to eat. The Carvery looked like it might be a good choice - and wow! Generous servings of tasty and beautifully cooked meats, plus a wide choice of delicious vegetables (the creamed spinach was particularly good - and fabulous when I teamed it up with the peas.......). We were too full for dessert - so cannot make any judgement about puddings. As we left we asked if dogs were allowed - and discovered Pooch could have joined us at the outside table we had selected on this warm evening. So very good was this first meal, that we went back the next night - and so very good was the carvery on that first visit that we chose that again - and were not at all disappointed (nor was the dog - we again had too much meat, so she had a very tasty treat when we got back to our digs). We could not stay away - so were back again on our fifth night, and this time we ordered a skewer of Tiger prawns to share, and the 'Chef's Fillet Steak'. The prawns were lovely, and I shall remember that steak for a very long time as being amongst the very best steaks I have ever tasted. It was fabulous. All praise to the chef.If you really enjoy GOOD food, at a fair price, and are in Penzance - eat here. (It's a pity it is so far away from Glasgow...........)
