WAX Newquay in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Came as a small group for two hours of darts, was lots of fun with lots of different game options. Staff were friendly and attentive, and drinks were good.

We’ve visited WAX on numerous occasions for Darts, Escape Room and Axe Throwing and it’s always been a pleasant and fun time. However, we went on Saturday 27th for my son’s 15th birthday to play darts and the whole experience seemed a bit rushed and wasn’t as enjoyable. We were put on the first board as soon as you walk through the door but they were setting up for a birthday party on the tables next to us so we were unable to sit anywhere or put our coats, bags and drinks etc down. A couple of times we were told to move as part of our group kept using the chairs. We were all squashed into the corner with no tables or nowhere to sit which made it quite difficult with a group of 6 to play without getting in the way of each other. I hate to leave bad reviews but maybe this needs reevaluating in future so others don’t experience the same issue.

We did the mining escape Room for my daughter's 15th birthday. They really enjoyed it. The clues were hard enough but very enjoyable and they had a great time. Thank you!

Only been in several times ever. The staff make the place. Well done guys. You are a crediyto yourselves, Newquay, Sam (the boss). Will be popping in soon for the great hospitality and try the food that all of my mates say is out of this world.

We did an escape room, Axe Throwing, and digital darts for my fiancé's birthday. It was brilliant, staff were super nice via email helping me reschedule a few things and answer questions, and there is such a chilled and friendly vibe when you arrive. Drinks are not unreasonably priced and we had a lot of fun here! Definitely want to come back and do another escape room in future! Also recommend doing more than an hour for darts because it went so quickly and there's so many games to get through! Also be aware Google hasn't updated and they don't offer cooked food here anymore but the central Inn across the road is highly recommended, we just came back after dinner for drinks!

Great fun darts experience for the whole family!

We booked to do the zombie escape room, booking was quick and easy. We were greeted by friendly staff and when we had all arrived were taken for a short safety/rules briefing. Having never done an escape room before from the outset your heart is pumping and your brain is in overdrive trying to complete the tasks ahead. This escape room was quite challenging with a variety of tasks that kept the whole team engaged. I would definitely recommend for adults

We did the Zombolie prison escape room! It was great fun, the batteries on the torch were dead and it took a while before we were given a replacement that worked, but we had a good time. The bar staff and ER GM are always really nice here

Excellent staff, Excellent Atmosphere, Came here impulsively after seeing they do Axe Throwing (a bucket list item of mine). Had a fantastic time, nice variety of different style/weighted Axes to suit individuals. Instructor (Sam?) gave great feedback to help keep us on target and then once we got the hang of it progressed into some competitive games. Never thought I would feed so good after throwing axes at a board of wood and if you're considering it then absolutely come here. Didn't sample the food personally but the other group there didn't complain and the burgers certainly looked good. I can say however, they serve good coffee for sure

Celebrated my partners birthday here & had the best time! We played escape rooms (so much fun!), had delicious food & cocktails & played darts! Super friendly staff, very responsive & helpful. Great at dealing with dietary requirements (a lot of us were gf & vegan). Will be returning for the axe throwing for sure! Thank you!

Did axe throwing with Spooks (aka Olivia I think). Had a brilliant time! She is so easy to get along with, had a great laugh. She had us in little competitions with each other and just made it a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Booked to go back to Newquay next year and will definitely be going back for another go.

Brilliant place for group of friends wanting something different on a night out or family wanting some fun. With escape rooms, axe throwing & interactive darts its a must for a good night in Newquay. The drinks are reasonably priced & bar staff welcoming & helpful.

We visited for the first time in August 2023.. we were so impressed with everything that we visited again less than a week later. We are tourists and visit Cornwall yearly, so we always look out for new experiences. We found this bar when looking for escape rooms. We have visited to play both of the escape rooms on offer and also tried our hands at axe throwing twice. The interactive darts is so much fun and so cheap for a full hour of play. The axe throwing is brilliant fun and the instructor is really keen to teach everyone. He was really helpful, friendly and attentive. Both of the escape rooms were high quality, with pretty high quality props. The rooms lack the ‘home made’ feel that most of the escape rooms in Cornwall have. They feel very professional. The prison escape room has one or two red herrings, whereas the mine escape has a more linear set of puzzles. My only gripe was that we could not complete the mine escape, as the numbers needed for one of the final puzzles had been worn away or had faded. They were all but invisible to us and the host admitted that they needed to be repainted. This didn’t spoil the game, as we had effectively ended the game (aside from one lock). The venue was not serving any food, however, this was okay at the time. There were bar snacks on offer. The bar is dog friendly!

The prison escape room was excellent. Lots of puzzles and clues in odd places. 60 minutes is only just enough!

Me and my partner did one of the escape rooms and had an absolute blast, it was such a good time and I would recommend to anyone. Also bar staff were incredibly friendly, great customer service and generally nice to chat to. Would definitely go back when next in Newquay

Had such a blast! Our host Spooks had to banter and made us laugh a lot. Highly recommend visiting with friends or family, a must not miss experience!

my wife and I went axe throwing here today, we had a great time. A special thanks to our instructor, who helped us get better and had some great games to play and encouraged our competitive side.

Book to play virtual darts, arrived 20mins before my appointment and spent an hour waiting at the bar, staff just completely ignored me and my group and priorities other parties, ended up walking out due to how disgusting we where treated, was later called by them and was told by a kelly Marie or Kelly Anne that I would gey a full refund, this was over two weeks ago and still waiting for the refund. Would not be going back or recommending the place to anyone

Embrace your inner viking!! We had a great afternoon axe throwing. The instructor was fun and showed us how to do a couple of trick shots. I loved the competition element too.. It was nice having a pint in the secret garden afterwards. I will definitely be back to try the interactive darts and cocktails.

Claudia made our group feel so welcomed and showed us in detail how to use the axes for the axe throwing. Had a wonderful time and will definitely be back, love it here :)

Happened across this place and we were so glad we did, a very friendly team greeted us in and made us feel welcome. We decided to do Axe Throwing and after a quick tutorial by Max we started our 1 hour session. Max was very helpful and wasn't pushy with his pointers and suggestions and kept us occupied by showing us alternative axes and throwing stances. Couldn't recommend Max or this place enough, definitely pop in if in Newquay.

We popped in here to play interactive darts. The staff were super friendly and helpful. We were taken to a small booth to play which was nice. The game was fun and there were a few different versions to play to keep things interesting. We also ordered a cocktail pitcher which went down well. We came as a couple but would definitely bring the kids as I'm sure they would love it too.

Watergate bay is a Beautiful setting but we were sat at the back of a very hot seating area. Food was ok- finesse and portions size definitely not what we expected for price and had much cheaper but better food elsewhere in Newquay

Bored staff. Dry food. Old decor. Meh!! To be getting such good reviews there must be nowhere else in WG bay or the rest are worse. Places/food elsewhere on Cornwall much better.

Overpriced for terrible food! £10 for the burnt plain, dry, fatty burger which was tasteless. £14 for a plain margarita pizza Rock hard cheese, thin pizza, £4 for chips that were burnt. The place was grotty, food all over the place, tables were covered with beer. Terrible experience here. My 8 year old was even disgusted

Arrived as a group of 7, 4 adults and 3 children, food arrived as 7 kids meals, on second visit the next day, was told 45 min wait for food which I was expecting, next minute they have stopped serving food and no idea of when it would be restarting. I understand businesses are experiencing staff shortages but just be honest with people. The quality of the food is good have always recommended it but it really shows they are struggling. I really hope they get back on track soon.

1hour +25 min wait for food! only when several tables that arrived after us had their food, we questioned the staff and were told “it’s being done now” with no apologies. Food was definitely overpriced for what it was. there wasn’t even menus on the tables - we were told to take a photo of a menu at the entrance and had to refer to the photo to order. I get that nowadays it is limiting touchable surfaces - but to be honest it smacked of the whole vibe of the staff = can’t be bothered!!!

My husband and I came here on Friday 21st of August for some drinks. Atmosphere was good and fresh, service was a little slow although overall good experience.

Amazing vibe, like a home from home. Food is always consistent and really tasty. Some great creative menus options available especially when they bring out a event menu like Xmas!!! Cocktails are brilliant. Creative but not overbearing. Staff know the menus well and listen and suggest the perfect drink everytime. Friendly staff too even if they seem mad as March hares! They love dogs so very dog friendly!

We were travelling with extended family and WAX catered for everyone. Loved the two for one cocktails, the service was great and the food was okay too so overall very happy.

This is my Missus, fave place. Been coming here for years.She loves the cocktails and the pizzas and Burgers are well tasty. Kids always find what they want. Hannah and Aaron make you feel welcome and keep the drinks flowing. 10 out of 10! Will be coming back.

Myself and my wife ate here last night and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The food was cooked to perfection and the guy working last night I thought was brilliant. There was a large booking in and the place was very busy and this guy was all by himself but I thought he handled the situation and everyone he was taking care of exceptionally. Definitely a credit to this restaurant and He was the reason we had such a great time. So although there was a longer than usual wait for food, you didn’t mind because the food was gorgeous and like I said the place overall was superb. Definitely will return when I’m next in Newqua. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We booked for a table of 30 for a team Xmas party (in January) - working in the same industry you always have reservations of what the experience will be like but can honestly say I couldn’t fault them ... from initial contact through email through to the evening itself - a great team on shift who catered for all our needs all evening. cocktails were bang on food was good and the guys kept us entertained for the 4 hours we were there - allergies were catered for and vegetarians too. great value for money and really appreciate you making it a memorable evening.

Home made pizza was lovely, if it pleases my daughter who's nine it'll please any1,I had the fish n chips ,the minty mushy peas were brilliant, the Mrs had a house burger n demolished it,only thing that put me off ,was the p.ss heads being noisy who came in whilst we enjoyed our food,would I go in again,yes but probably try get seats upstairs next time

We have been coming here for years and are never dissapointed. The staff are awesome, esp Aaron and Hannah. The food is amazing from great homemade pizza to a steak that is cooked the way you want it.A great chef we believe. The best thing though is the most amazing cocktails, great value and range, served as what I would call a little piece of art. Enjoy if you visit.

Best cocktail bar I have been too! Not only in Newquay but anywhere. The staff are nothing short of absolutely amazing! Aaron and Andrew behind the bar are absolute legends. Every time me and my partner come to Newquay Wax is a must! The food is absolutely amazing too!!! We will be back next time were down so have a Flat white Martini and a Cosmopolitan waiting!

Visited last night after last minute road trip and were utterly delighted with our evening from the cocktails the atmosphere really lovely chilled atmosphere and service from in my sons eyes the coolest dude Eva! So nice to go somewhere with fabulous quality food that also does brilliantly fir kids. Thanks for a wonderful experience I wish we lived closer as you would be our fave place to eat! Really well done to the management and chef for the most lovely menu at really really reasonable prices. Could not recommend more I could find no fault atall.

Came in couple weeks ago on a busy night, used to live local and always try to visit when come back. Although a busy night with some obvious Christmas parties going on the staff gave us good attention while attending to other large tables.

Me and my friends came in for a Christmas party this weekend, we had welcome drinks upon arrival by the friendly bar man, we then got taken upstairs after the lady ran through how the evening would pan out. Our food came out promptly and was delicious! The decor and atmosphere was perfect and not too loud like most places! After we let our dinner settle we went down stairs where we had a lot of fun on the photo booth and danced away! We will definitely be back next year for round 2!

Went for Christmas party with friends. A warm welcome for staff. Helpful with a few questions from members of our group. Food was lush and cocktails were on point. Highly highly recommend for parties !!!!

Arrived in wax for 7 o clock with a party we were seated at 7 05 pm we had pre booked our menu so they knew about our orders so no one had to take orders it took until 9 10pm for starters to come out and after that it took a further 1 25 minutes for main courses to come out the food was absolutely rubbish as the dessert was ok just ok just a up market wetherspoons never again and the other party that was there said the same as that is 2 local business that they have pissed off what a total waste of money thank you for spoiling our Christmas party wax

On first impressions, it was welcoming and friendly but we waited a while for our order to be taken and a fair while to be served. For the price, the pasta dish was bland and it was hard to find a vegetable within it. The vegan burger was lacklustre and nothing special. With a bit more of a focus on the food and service it could have potential. Perhaps it needs to decide to focus on being a good cocktail bar, as the food we had didn't wow us.

Great place surprisingly niche - an old Cornish granite building, a converted bank.

What a great place. The staff were attentive, polite and helpful without being intrusive, the food was perfect (Wax Burger for me, Greek pizza for my companion), decent cocktails, good music and the decor is interesting! They even gave my son his mocktail for free because it was his birthday but I made up for that with a good tip. They deserved it!

This evening we had our staff Christmas party at wax, we where a big group of 20 and they could not have been more accommodating! Good food, great service and great atmosphere.

We met family there as it was roughly half way between the two of us, and as I love burgers, I was especially keen to try it. Staff seemed friendly if a little indifferent. I had a Beast burger, partner had a veggie meal (aubergine tagine) and the others tried the vegan burgers. Apparently the vegan burgers were "OK", but partner's meal so awful (tasteless and with uncooked veg) she sent it back - first time she's ever sent a meal back. She ordered something else which meant she was eating her meal after everyone else was finished. My burger was below average and the chicken was hard!

We visited last night for food and we had a fantastic meal and exceptional service by two lovely young lads. Would absolutely recommend a is it and will definitely be back next year.

I came across this place after reading a few good reviews and they were definitely understating how good this place is.

Came in to take advantage of 2-4-1 cocktails, ended up staying to have dinner.. the staff were so helpful and friendly especially zach who talked us through both the drinks and the food menu. The baileys flat white was a great recommendation! We will definitely be back again ! :)

We visited wax after watching the harbour fireworks. The restaurant manager was running the front of house and making cocktails on his own. He was very welcoming and professional, coping well as the place filled up. Thank you for looking after us. Good food good beer

This is a lovely place! Although the decor is a bit dated, the food is really good and there is a large variety of dishes available. The pizzas and loaded fries are amazing! We also had two cocktails which were tasty. The service was really good too.

We’ve been to Newquay a few times and have never been here before, don’t know how we missed it. This is an absolute gem of a place, great decor, amazing food and cocktails and Fabulous, friendly staff who can’t do enough for you. Had the chicken burger, best I’ve ever had really chilled atmosphere. Can’t recommend enough, will definitely be back. Did have dessert, but the Hubby ate half it it before I could take a pic, lush .

Place was freezing, very dark inside as well had to use my night vision goggles to eat my food. Food was iffy, my fish was still wet from the sea and the pizza dough was raw :/ soz won't recommend!

We came here on the 20th October for our wedding anniversary meal. After reading the reviews I thought 2 bad reviews, the rest brilliant - and it wasn't so big inside so we were expecting a more personal approach. This is not what we got. We ordered drinks and our meal at 7.02. The bar man said he would bring my cocktail over ASAP. 30 mins later still no cocktail!! My husband had finished half his drink! The barman looked busy so we assumed he was making the cocktail, no he went away from the bar and wiped tables!! We then said "excuse me, we are still waiting for a cocktail" he replied yes I know!!!

Great food, a little pricey for what it is but the vibe of the place and the quality of the food. 5 stars
