Went to Wheelhouse for our 35th wedding anniversary, wrong choice, had a drink in the bar, before moving into the restaurant which is very dated, quite a few people eating, we decided on the 1 course 4 meat carvery, served by Mark in a baseball cap who looked like he didn't want to be there, cut all the meats with the same knife, vegetables were awful roast potatoes (frozen ones) in the same tray as the chips, beef tough, not worth £15-95. Young Waitresse's were efficient. With drinks a total of£61 We will not return

Thought we'd treat ourselves to a meal out on Friday evening after a long week at work. Well it definately wasn't a treat!!. We should have turned and walked out when we were first greeted by the totally unenthusiastic and unfriendly staff.. unfortunately, we sat down and ordered food. We both ordered the mixed grill. Neither of us were asked how we would like our steak cooked, and the waitress disappeared so quick we didn't get to ask. We were served our meals quickly, which in hindsight should have rung alarm bells, as it should take a reasonable amount of time to cook 2 mixed grills properly. The portions were huge.. a huge pile of badly cooked poor quality food. The gammon I must admit, was passable, the steak was like shoe leather, the bacon was extremely fatty, the egg was overcooked and greasy, the peas were like bullets! But the worst was the sausage and mushrooms.. The sausage was the cheapest mushy rubbish, and had been cut open longwise, obviously to check if it was cooked, before being served.. and neither of us were convinced it actually was, as it was still pink in the middle. (Any chef who has to cut open a sausage before serving it, really shouldn't be a chef!).. and the mushrooms!. God only knows how they had been cooked!. My man actually spit it out when he ate one. I am guessing they were deep fried. They were absolutely disgusting!!!. My hubby actually returned both our plates up to the bar. We were given no apology, and the staff argued the quality of the food. She offered to take £6 off the bill.. We refused to pay for anything more than our drinks and left actually feeling sick and embarrassed at the whole ordeal. Friday night ruined.

Quick visit after a long walk along the beach. Staff could not have been more helpful. The coffee and tray bake were lovely. Why there is barbed wire around the outside seating area that restricts coastal views to die for beats logic

Booked this hotel without looking at reviews. Upon arrival, looking at the building was an instant regret. It was only a night. How bad could it be? I went to the reception to be greeted by nobody for about 5 mins. The hotel felt dark damp and eerie as I never came across any other visitors. A man came from downstairs but was not very welcoming. I eventually found my room, going down a dark corridor. The room smelt really bad there were holes in the walls, and the bathroom was tiny. The toilet had poo still up the back of the pan, gross! The bed was very small and uncomfortable. I am 6ft an my legs hanging of the end. Due to the smell and the cleanliness a miss. I had yo check out and book into another hotel.

Saturday 2nd of November, they decided to shut the restaurant, no head up or anything. Just no meals, only refreshments. Fast forward two weeks. After a 4 hour drive on the Friday, I arrived at 7.05pm. Reception said restaurant were serving until 8.30 and I was OK just to pop over and get a table. So I done that. No tables for the rest of the night. Only the tables near the bar were being used. Rest of the place was empty. Saturday seemed to go without a hitch. Sunday morning, apparently the chef pulled a sickie so there was no hot food other than what you could put through the toaster! The big lad that's in the restaurant is brand new as are some of the other FOH staff but this place need to sort the BOH staff out pronto. Also just a little tip for the servers, from someone who was in hospitality for 18 years, when someone walks in the door and stands waiting to be attended to, give them an acknowledgement. Don't just leave them standing like a spare tw4t.
