The pub is closed due to a lengthy refurb, but there is a cafe in the smokery next door run by the same family. We enjoyed a platter of smoked seafood made on-site for lunch. It was seriously good, with some clever tastes. The Salmon was just brilliant. We bought some in the Deli to take home. Highly recommended.

Had arrived too early to our holiday cottage and this place was just a few minutes away so we called in for lunch. We had the cheese platter and fish platter and were blown away by the quality of it, was so so good as was the service from the super lovely lady that served us and talked to us about what we were eating. This place is an absolute gem and perfect for fish lovers, 100% recommended visiting.

After a long journey, despite the late hour and the closed kitchen, the host offered to prepare a warm meal for us and treated us to an incredible, delicious and tasty fish burger. We were invited inside as it was getting cold, even though they were technically closed. Most of the ingredients are made on-site by the chef, which is a huge plus of this place! We will definitely return there! I highly recommend it.

A charming garden and a hidden gem! We ate in the garden and it was gorgeous! (The pub is currently being refurbed). The staff, and service were fab and really friendly! Lovely setting amongst wildflowers. We shared the beef brisket burger and the smoked salmon burger, both absolutely delicious! And topped off with a yum banoffee pie! We’ll be back again, and to visit the smokehouse shop!

During lockdown there is very little to get excited about but having previously eaten at the Wheat Sheaf I was reminded by a friend that although the pub was currently closed the Smokery was still open and sold fresh fish. So on Friday I popped in to get some treats for the weekend. I thought I’d just pick up some fresh fish for dinner but was pleasantly surprised to see the extensive range of fresh produce for sale. Not only did I come away with fresh fish, veg, eggs and bread I was drawn to trying the takeaway food that you can take home and prepare yourself and decided on the brisket with dauphinois potatoes. The on line tutorials were easy to follow and the end result was fantastic and our meal was as good as it is when it’s served in the pub. Congratulations to the team at the Wheat Sheaf for finding new ways to serve great food to your customers. We will be back very soon and thoroughly recommend a visit to the Smokery to anyone else who asks me.

We have eaten here quite a few times, always during the week. We normally cycle here, but this time drove. The menu always has something interesting and different. This time hubbie had monkfish with mustard mash; I chose calves liver with mash. I had 3 lovely pieces of thin, beautifully- cooked liver and a huge pile of mash that I could not finish. We ordered a dish of vegetables between us, as they are needed with the main courses. There is always a good choice of vegetables, although hubbie is not fond of the Charanty carrots. The food is a little more expensive here than other places, but it is always good. The desserts are good, although we did not have any on this occasion. Cost of lunch with one large glass of wine and one water - £45 with tip. Afterwards, I’d recommend that you visit their smokery shop and pick up some lovely goodies.

we came here with friends for whom this is a favourite eatery. We reserved a table for a dismal saturday evening. The pub was quiet. I had salmon for starter and although tasty was no different to the supermarket salmon you buy at christmas. For main a lovely piece of braising beef, on smoky mash and gravy, veg was extra cost. I always have veg with my meat and mash so feel it should be included in the cost. Lovely small selection of draught beer. Staff very helpful and attentive. Had a good night with my friends but I must confess I was a little disappointed as the reviews all rave about the food. I would return with those friends but wouldn't bother otherwise.

Booked for my birthday lunch having seen the Smoke House advertised as a stand at this week’s Axbridge Farmers Market. I adore smoked food. It’s a little out of the way but stylish inside , there is a big car park and a lovely sheltered garden, lovely for the summer. The young lady behind the bar was welcoming , and advised of wine options , bring the menus to the table it was then table service all the way, quite unusual these days. Great to see some of the beers poured straight from the barrel. Now to the menu, what to choose, all delicious. So here we go , two if us shared the smoked fish platter, I have never had smoked prawns but they were AMAZING. The smoked salmon was not at all greasy , the smoked mackerel and mussels were a delight, great dressing on the salad. For main course two had the beer beef brisket with smoked mash , the portion was huge so be aware when ordering 2 courses! The beef fell apart , so tender, the gravy was super. The smoked mash well..... the chicken with chorizo cream was tender and light , the sauce full of flavour and not heavy on the cream , ditto the smoked mash. You have to the order vegetables separately which is unusual but were perfectly cooked and a good selection , Pak Choi, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, sugar snap peas. We had no room for dessert. We did pop in to the shop and bought some delicious goodies to take home, smoked butter, smoked Brie, smoked chicken. So great to find this place.

The staff are friendly and welcoming and provide a good service. There is a limited but excellent choice of food, beer, lager, cider and wine. Keeping it simple adds to the quality. We will definitely be going back, probably with our family when they come to visit. We did not book for lunch and were lucky that tables were available. Having recently moved to this area for work purposes, it is great to have such a fabulous pub within walking distance which has such amazing food. Who would want to cook at home after a very busy day at work, when this is on your doorstep. Well perhaps not every night, but a great atmosphere as a pub as well as very friendly staff and local clientelle. The food is far beyond your usual pub grub and some really tasty dishes with a "special" on the menu every time. Thoroughly recommend it if you are staying in this area or just passing through. Don´t forget the Smokery too, which even has a cafe open during the day.

Like most people i dont normally bother writing reviews but when somewhere is good you have to . As a starter we had the fish platter to share - smoked cold fish is my favourite so this was perfect the trout , salmon and mackerel were all perfectly smoked with subtle smoke flavours with nothing overpowering it meant you got to taste the perfectly smoked Fish and not just smoke - it was perfecly served with horseradish and a lemon . There was also some smoked prawns which i could have eaten a pallet load of . I have not ever had smoked prawns anywhere For main course we had brisket of beef with smoked mash which was just falling apart and with the subtle flavour of smoked mash and a bit of horse radish it was perfect . We had this with a nice bottle of rioja which just made it To finish was poached pear with ginger ice cream which was amazing We often eat out and being the outstanding quality and flavour of the food here is outstanding The quality to price ratio is like no where else Thankyou for a brilliant meal This place has shown up somewhere else we have eaten which was at least twice the price I cant wait to go to the smokehouse

My wife has eaten at the Wheatsheaf twice before, but on her recommendation I booked lunch for three just after the New Year. I must admit, I was very impressed with the menu, and the environment provided in the pub and restaurant. We chose to order a starter and main - possibly a mistake once the portion size had been seen, but wanted to try a number of dishes. The shared smoked fish starter was perfect - great quality and flavours. My wife chose the Chicken with chorizo sauce which was very good. Having wrangled with the choice of 12 main courses - all of which sounded really good, I decided on the brisket of beef, with smoked mash. Wow - how fantastic. Melt in the mouth beef, excellent sauce, really - really good smoked mashed potatoes. It has taken me a few years to make this trip, but it will only be a few months before the next! Really excellent food and location - go there when hungry!

One of the worst restaurants we have been to for a long time. Staff were rude, especially the lady on the bar ( i think she was the owner) food menu was minimal, with all mains not including any sides, the quality of the food was poor along with the taste. The portions were tiny and overall it was very expensive. They are charging top prices for us to sit on an old dirty wooden table which could do with a lick of paint, bar service and ants crawling all over the place. We won't be visiting again!

A very welcome return to the tradition of fine food at this most rustic of country pubs. The 'new' owners and staff do a great job of preparing a small selection of wonderful food (much of it smoked next door). If you love smoked food and/or fish, you are sure to find something you like; just be aware that many dishes would benefit by choosing to add veggies. To round-off the meal, we usually retire to the adjacent cafe (and shop) for a lovely coffee. Cyclists are particularly well looked after with the provision of locking points, air pump and availability of some spares. In conclusion, a great place to meet and eat.

One must never do ☆☆☆☆☆ until absolutely certain, and my present withholding of a fifth is due to noise. For those seeking a place where conversation may revolve around Badminton dressage judging, this is your comfort zone. The place is clean and tidy, the staff polite, but not necessarily conversational. An interesting bowl of soup with quality bread - homemade, I expect - was very good, and equally pleasingly priced. The menu was modest, but varied, and includes some price options. Ah, the noise. The sound system wasn't very loud, and most likely unnecessary, but the 100% hard environment allowed an atmosphere devoid of sound absorption. In conclusion: I'll be back! ADDITIONAL: I have returned several times, sampling varied dishes and wines. Southwest of Bath it would be difficult to find a place as good as this for cuisine, and with a rustic atmosphere and pleasingly unpretentious family-run feel, it is almost deserving 5 ☆. The sound system is better, too.

We'd driven past this pub so many times when it was being renovated and decided one Sunday lunch to give it a go. The entrance is at the side of the building and not obvious, the shop was closed. We weren't greeted at all, we asked at the bar if our two dogs were welcome, to which they grumpily said 'only if they are on leads...' Well of course they are on leads! We were also only able to sit in a certain area which was fine, however the area we sat in, the tables were covered in ants crawling over our cutlery, pretty disgusting. We had to ask at the bar for the menu's despite a number of members of staff walking past, the lady was almost determined to ignore me and tried serving a friend before me who arrived after me, I had to assert myself. No Sunday roast on offer, well if there was it wasn't offered to us. I ordered the smoked brisket and my wife the salmon. Both arrived luke warm, tiny portions, tasteless, neither with veg, that was clearly extra. 16 pounds for a small portion of tasteless brisket and mash, a complete ripoff compared to many places around and we eat out a lot. I had to cover the food in salt to add any flavour to it. We decided to skip desserts. A complete waste of money and time. Along with bad service, its a shame, we were hoping for a lot more.

My wife and I cycled here for dinner on Saturday evening. Great idea in that they have dedicated cycle parking with locks and even a pump. Layout of the pub is good with good outside seating whilst inside are 3 rooms with an eclectic mix of furniture, always a good sign I think. Inside layout is slightly geared too far towards eating for my liking but the main bar is in a room that lends itself to just having a drink. My wife and I are very much into our real ale and nothing pleases us more than finding a pub that does both its' ale well but also serves good food. The ale here was good (we had Double Hopped). Having good ale in is only halfway there, you also have to keep it well and the ale here is very good and well kept. Good job we were cycling;-) . The menu was relatively small and contained something different to the usual pub menu suspects; again, a good sign. We were aware of the smokery attached to the pub so were always going to try this. We had a starter each, the charcuterie plate and smoked fish. Both were very good, the fish especially although we will probably order one to share next time because they were a very good size. My wife had (smoked?) haddock which she said was cooked perfectly. Her only criticism was it was a bit small and there was perhaps too much herb crust on it. I had calves liver and a special mash (can't remember what) and it was excellent. Staff were very welcoming and pleasant and we had a glass of wine each and this too appeared better than your usual pub plonk. Price was upper end of our expectations but felt it was definitely worth it for the quality. Would we go again? Yes and soon because a pub with good ale and good food is a rare beast indeed.

What a great find, unique place smoking ingredients on site and offering a variety of dishes on that theme. Great atmosphere and staff, whilst the pub has a cosy feel. The starters were very generous, a platter of meats and seafood, excellent quality. One of the mains came with a smoked mash, very subtle which was perfect. All the food was cooked very well, comps to the chef! Service was good (although we prefer a bit more of a gap between starters and mains). This place is like a secret hideaway and well worth a trip, probably one of the best in the area. Go and smoke it out.

Small but impressive menu, sharing starter was delicious as was the mains of beef brisket and chorizo chicken. Pudding was slightly lacking in imagination but their strong points are definitely meat and fish.

This place knows how to smoke fish - they do it themselves. A very interesting and exciting menu - so pleased to have found this delight. Each course was a complete delight and who ever thought of dauphinois with smoked salmon and a poached egg? Magic.

Had a family lunch last weekend. My first visit and certainly won't be the last. The food was consistently very good, fresh, generous portions and a lovely choice of menu. I liked the smoked food choice, straight from the pub's own smokery. Very comfortable surroundings, attentive staff and good beer. Also like the shop where you can purchase their smoked produce at reasonable prices.

We’ve been here twice for lunch in the past three weeks, both times by bicycle. The pub has thoughtfully provided areas for cycles with built-in locks. The keys are on huge cogs, so you won’t forget them! We know of this pub from many years ago, but the old Wheatsheaf went years ago, and a new phoenix has risen from the ashes. The décor is simple and welcoming, the staff behind the bar are friendly and welcoming, the food excellent.

Have eaten here so many times now, it is one of our favourites. With an adjoining smokery it is no surprise to find a menu with a number of smoked meats and fish - we try to be adventurous and select new things....but find that we often gravitate to selections enjoyed on previous visits. Particular favourites are the chicken and chorizo, the haddock and the beef brisket - usually accompanied by smoked mash. Generous portion sizes and good, fresh sides of vegetables means you won't leave feeling empty! Good selection of local beers and ciders - with everything at reasonable prices and served by friendly, cheerful staff - what more can one ask for?

Have watched this place develop from scratch and what Jon and Ali and their family have created is amazing. The team equally carry their ethos for care and hardwork and we had a glorious group reunion and Sunday lunch here. The new developed cafe and smokery is sure to be a great success and we look forward to coming back and trying more delights. Sadly we live more than an hour away so its not right on our doorstop to become an everyday local but the people of Stone Allerton are very lucky... well done everyone xxx

We went for a lovely date night here for a bit of a change. Looking for something different and healthy instead of pub grub. This place did not disappoint at all. The young lad who served us was lovely, nothing was too much of an ask and he was very polite. We ordered a small smoked fish platter and a small meat platter (as pictured) we did question if we had ordered the large by mistake and was pleased when it showed up on the receipt as a small. We nearly ordered some bread to go with it and pleased we didn't because a bowl of bread came out with the two starters. All the fish and meat was smoked on site and was gorgeous. I had the chicken with the creamy chorizo sauce on smoked mash. It was gorgeous and the portion size was really good. The smoked mash was amazing. They say that the veg side is enough for two, but next time I would order one each as I really like my veg. My partners dish of pigs cheeks, smoked mash, cabbage and gravy was lovely to. My partner had the chocolate moose with coffee sauce, it was gorgeous. We didn't have coffee, but we smelt some on the way out, it smelt gorgeous!! I'll go back again just to try the coffee. We went on a Friday night and it was quite loud, however there is a table tucked round the corner, which We would ask to sit at next time. We will definitely be coming back here again, a real treat.

We popped into the Wheatsheaf Inn as passing & needed a some lunch, they had finished food as it was now 14:15 but the landlord kindly said he could do a couple of starters for us ... food was amazing! Thank you for being so accommodating.

What a wonderful restaurant/pub - four of us came here for dinner following a recommendation by the owners of the cottage where we were staying in Middle Stoughton, and we were not disappointed.

Lovely food great quality, pub is owned by a family who also own a smokery so this features in their menu. It is not basic pub grub so no chips, burgers etc

Staff were friendly, only veggie starter was bread and just one veggie option for main... not much in the way of seating, ended up in a long table in a cold room off to the side. A couple of beers on including a really nice stout but ended up leaving because of lack of options.
