Sunday carvery! We are local and really want you to do well. Service very good, meat offering really good, well cooked and delicious, vegetables very poor, sloppy overcooked and very under seasoned, roast potatoes burnt and tasteless. We had the large offering but overall disappointing. Table wasn’t cleared and had to go to the bar to pay the bill! Honestly with a bit more attention to detail this good be good, parsnips were boiled and not roasted. Will try you one more time in a couple of weeks, please take this on board. Staff very helpful, ambience good.

Very good friendly service at a reasonable price, we complimented the chef on sending out a rare steak, as some chefs are frightened to do this. We also had breakfast in the restaurant, and yes it is a cooked one now.

We stayed here last weekend in our motorhome after checking with the new owner, Barry. First impressions were excellent as there appears to have been a good refurbishment so everything looked very classy. We ate both nights and had a lovely Sunday lunch from the carvery before departing. Previous nights, our steak was cooked perfectly to our taste and we particularly enjoyed the chicken with a creamy leek sauce. Many thanks to the very attentive and friendly staff who made us so welcome. I understand the previous owners were responsible for some bad reviews before this refurbishment so I'd advise you to disregard those. New owner deserves the highest praise based on our experience. Thanks Barry, from George and Fiona.

What a great place to stay! The Wheatsheaf is under new management and the staff running the place are so friendly and helpful. We met Dylan who looked after us so well. The rooms were clean, fresh and beds comfortable. It was quiet at night and we slept well. In the morning we went for an early breakfast which was served with a smile. Nice breakfast menu and it set us up for the day. We would definitely recommend to friends and we would return the next time we are up in Northumberland- thankyou!

Me and my wife went to stay in Corbridge for the 2 nights while on our way up to Scotland. We were told that the pub wouldn't be open and if it was there would be no food or rooms but after finding nowhere else to go we reluctantly went in only to find a chockblock bar with the smell of food in the air. we went up to the bar to be met by a friendly barman who told us they had rooms on and food, after asking the barmen it turn outs that the place in under new management. we stayed in a double room at a great price and the room was gorgeous with not even a speckle of dust. after settling in we went for some food, I had that cod that I smelt on the way in, it was beautifully golden, tasted amazing almost made me think I was in a 5 star restaurant, my wife had the gammon steak and ate every last bit which is nothing like her. the service was amazing from start to finish, not a bad word I can say about place and will be recommending it to all my friends traveling up.

My wife booked 4 rooms for 8 people back in April for the 2nd August. Apparently there are new owners taking over and they've just canceled our booking with only 10 days notice. This is very upsetting, as we booked months in advance to try and save money. Not only will we have to find somewhere else as everywhere Is booked in the village, probably now Hexham, it's now mid summer and prices are high. They didn't seem to care when we emailed them, it was just a one line response. Very very sad and disappointing. Be careful booking in advance with this place.

I booked this as a hotel break with activities planned around returning to hotel in the evening, however was notified (by Phone) on Monday, 2 hours before arrival that the bar would be shut that evening and the restaurant would also be shut. He neglected to state this would also be the case on the Tuesday, again no bar was available or restaurant either. The bar was open on the Wednesday but again no restaurant service. The staff consisted of one young lad who told us that the bar was never open on Monday or Tuesday and that the Chef had left. I booked this break in a hotel which basically turned out to be an un-serviced room only, with what was stated as a ''complimentary breakfast'' this was actually on the booking so the term complimentary is a bit patronising as it was supposed to be supplied. However, tables were sticky, shortage of cutlery and tableware. The last saucer on the bar was firmly stuck to the surface. Wifi was supposed to be included but the lad handed us a password for a non-existent network. He then said they were looking at getting it fixed!! There was no lighting at the end of our corridor, literally no lighting, only wires hanging down. There was a leak in through the ceiling at the other end of the corridor and 2 buckets were sat there, quite easy to turn the corner in the corridor and trip over them. All in all, a very unsatisfactory stay, the hotel is not helped by being managed by a young lad, sitting on the bar, with headphones on. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone and also feel that Booking . com should look at the properties they endorse by having them on their site

Where do I start....We arrived at about half 1 on Sunday hoping for a table for a 2, when we went in we thought ooh get in, we're in luck, there was only about 4 occupied tables, what we should have thought was, this doesn't look good, hardly no one in on a sunday afternoon, but anyway, we were so hungry we could have both ate turd with sugar on, so we hung about, we literally hung about like pumps in a spacesuit till someone acknowledged us 10 minutes later. The girl told us there would be a 20 minute wait for food, god knows why but we took the chance, we ordered 2 pints at the bar, hair of the dog of course cause we were both rough as badgers from the previous nights antics, she then showed us our table, we sat for 5 mins staring at our poured pints on the bar, sweating our chebs off cause she sat us next to a radiator that was hotter than the sun, no one was bringing the drinks and they weren't gonna grow legs and walk to us, so my partner reluctantly went and retrieved them, both pints tasted like urine and mine had lipstick all round the rim, excellent!! Anyway, I sent it back, took another good 10 mins and extra communication that I could have done without before I got another, which again tasted like urine. Next thing, the girl came over and said "what would you like to eat?" Ermmm do you have a menu? "No sorry it's just beef pork or chicken" ahh ok sorry my crystal ball forgot to tell me that, so we ordered a pork and a beef. 15 mins later the food arrived, beef drier than the Sahara desert and pork blatantly from farm foods, frozen roasties which were so hot they took the skin off the roof of my mouth, and the mashed potato and turnip, well, there was nothing mashy about them, the chef must have lost his potato masher cause they had more lumps than Gemma Collins thighs. The yorkie was areet, but just areet. All in all it wasn't a good experience, needs a full refurb too, I'd rather poo in my hands and clap than visit there again! And it made my hangover worse!

We made an overnight stay. The welcome was very indifferent and there was no off-road parking for our bikes so we used public bike racks up the road. The room was okay, but the net curtain had fallen down, and the shelf in the bathroom was so sloped that our toothbrushes just rolled off it! The tea tray was dirty so I laid tissues on it after cleaning the cups we used. The English breakfast was very overcooked and drenched in oil. To be fair, the staff were very young and seemed a bit overwhelmed.

Wheatsheaf Inn is in a lovely location, convenient to sites, pubs, and food in Corbridge— a very nice town to visit. The building is nice, and the breakfast and supper there are good. Service was friendly but a little slow depending on which staff were about. The big downside there was that the carpet in our room was dirty, the shower and bathroom were dirty, and the bed mattress was disgustingly stained. A little attention and this would be a nice Inn, but somewhat off putting during our visit.

Booked for a two night stay. The only good things to say about The Wheatsheaf are there’s parking on site, great location and friendly staff. On a very negative note, our bed hadn’t been changed since the previous occupant with hairs in the bed, which we were absolutely disgusted by. Basic cleaning had been done but skirting, fans, window frames etc.. were thick of dust, as were other areas of guest accommodation. Staff did change our bed immediately but it was an extremely bad start. The carpets could most certainly do with a clean and décor desperately needs repainting. We had breakfast on our first morning and really should have sent it back. My husband’s full English was inedible and appeared to have had the sausages reheated. My smashed avocado on toast was very lacking in the avocado department which had been spread like butter and eggs were overdone. We gave breakfast a miss on our second morning and went to a local coffee shop, even though we’d already paid upfront. My daughter stated she’d stayed in £12 a night hostels in Asia which were better, and at £140 a night, The Weatsheaf really needs to increase its standards which are sadly very lacking. My opinion is the owners are trying to save money by any means at the expense of customers. In it’s current state we’d most certainly not return!

Hadn’t been to the wheatsheaf for some time - as it’s in our local village- thought we had give it another go - sadly very disappointed- checked menu online before we arrived - menu on offer was very limited compared to online one. Overcooked vegetables- my cauliflower was like mush & carrots watery - soggy bottom to the pie - very strange gravy !! the best thing was the wine. My husband dish was dry. No one asked how was our meal - no sign of the manager, sadly we left disappointed and won’t return or recommend it to anyone. Will recommend that people avoid it ! Very poor value for money & poor quality food . The car park is in need of a good tidy - gives a very poor impression. Feels like no one cares, which is such a shame for what should be a successful business.

Ten of us for dinner and the staff could not cope. Front of house was run off his feet and there was little delegation to younger bar staff. Great menu, but on a personal note, both of my choices of food were ‘unavailable’. My main course carrots were almost raw and my promise of gravy never materialised. Food was mediocre. Need to get systems sorted and delegate tasks. Very disappointing.

Stayed one night as a last minute break. We didnt read any reviews before visiting which did us a favour. Nice welcome by the staff, shown to our room which was large and clean. En-suite large and clean. Only down side to the en-suite is the window needs some attention, the radiator is too small to compete against the cold draught coming through. Can't comment on the bar food as we were out all day but the breakfast was great, we both had a full English but my wife had the kids version which was almost too much for her. Would stay again.

As locals we decided to give this place another try and the menu online looked promising. When we arrived we were greeted by a pleasant but unexperienced wait staff and a menu with very little on it, about a third of the size of the online one. While other pubs nearby were very busy only one other table was occupied and I can see why. The food was terrible, reheated mush. It'll be a long time before we're back, there is massive room for improvement.

Positives first, a lovely pleasant girl served our breakfast which was okay not much continental and our poached eggs were all hard Our room was quite large but mattress was well used and lumpy pillows hard! No fridge so drinking water was warm, the sash window in the room needed a good coat of paint and wouldn’t stay open we had to use a book to wedge it as it was really a hot day. The view, we imagined a nice view of the village but instead it was of a 2 foot high metal barrier as part of the lounge roof downstairs, not pleasant. Bathroom was okay but shower had nothing to fix it to so it was a case of holding it as you lathered which is not easy! We booked a table for dinner at 7 o’clock, and just by chance as we passed reception at tea time we were informed the chef had decided to leave early so last orders would be 5.45. We had booked a table for four for Monday 23rd December 2019, for a meal for a family birthday. On arrival we were told that there was a problem in the kitchen that meant that there was only soup or sandwiches available. We appreciated this and apologised saying we were looking to have a full lunch / meal,as it was a special occasion. As we left, when we were out of sight but not out of hearing, the manager said to, (when asked) his brother that the local coop does a meal deal or Mc Donald's meal deal was just a 30 minutes drive away!!. Extremely disappointed by this attitude by the manager given that in the last few months we've been in the food has been lovely and the staff previously have been professional.PS as a result we had a fantastic three course meal at the Boatside @ Warden. #£90 x worth every penny for the fantastic food and the uncompromising good service.

Very few places seem to do genuine vegan options unless they are an exclusively vegan pub, cafe or restaurant, but there were two plant powered main courses at The Wheatsheaf and one each of starter and dessert. The starter was not available, but that’s easily forgiven when it’s because the ingredients are specialist and couldn’t be sourced and you’re told promptly by the staff. I had the vegan osso buco, which had a British twist by being on mashed potato rather than risotto. It was simple but delicious, humble but still very smart. I would never normally choose a gingery pudding, but that was the vegan option, and it was much better than I expected. The ginger was subtle, the sponge satisfyingly dense but not stodgy, with a round of fresh tasting coconut ice cream. The lavazza coffee was also excellent. The service from Lauren was first class. Unhurried, polite and friendly, she was knowledgeable not only about the pub’s food but good food in general. My only suggestion for improvement would be more ales, given the excellent brewers in the region. Recommended

It would be nice to excuse the hour long wait for our light uncomplicated lunch due to lack of staff. There seemed to be one rather harried person taking the orders and it was only a quarter full on a weekday lunchtime. This wait was exacerbated when wrong dishes were served - meat to a vegetarian! A genuine mistake which would have been forgiven if the meal we had was a good one. I therefore really can’t excuse the very poor food that was eventually served. The sandwich was dry and the accompanying salad tired. The fish & chips made one of our group have tummy ache for the rest of the day. The soup was insipid and the tagine was clearly thrown together by a chef that doesn’t understand vegetarian cuisine. What a disappointment.

We went here for Sunday lunch but were very disappointed. After waiting for an hour for our food, we were told that the wait was because it was a very large chicken that was taking a while to cook. When the food finally arrived the chicken breast we were served had obviously been cooked quickly, and had never been part of the 'large chicken'! The food itself was tasty, but then they messed up the bill (twice) and tried to charge us over 20 pounds more than it should have been. Despite the food being good we shall not be returning on account of the terrible service.

I just want to pass on my thanks for a lovely meal, service and friendly atmosphere. Popped in with my daughter, her friend and my Grandson. I wasn't going to eat as I had heard the grub wasn't as good, but I am so pleased I changed my mind! I am normally very picky about eating out (!) but I have to say my lunch was splendid and the kiddies portion suited me fine. Vegetables were cooked just the way I like them and the gammon was delicious. I even liked the gravy!! Attentive Staff made us all very welcome and the service was second to none. The new manager is lovely and recommended a rather nice pint of Pagan Ale. I will definitely be back, Thank You!

I am not one for fancy cor don blue menu so was a bit disappointed when I went into the Wheatsheaf and their new Menu. Not that there is a wide choice and it looks fantastic it is just not me thing. Then I lifted up the page and below was the bar food list and what a delight. Proper food stuff I like and loads to choose from. If the quality my choice is anything to go by then the high-end stuff will just blow you socks off. Looking forwards to going back.

Enjoyed a very nice evening at the Wheatsheaf, great choice on menu, I opted for the mackerel starter which was very fresh and tasty, for main I had the rare steak bavette which was served with really fresh well cooked greens and a caramelised shallot purée, the quality and taste was excellent, the chips were homemade and plentiful, no dessert as very full! The pub has recently been taken over and I believe in the near future to undergo a makeover which is needed. However the quality of the food is first class, the staff very attentive and friendly. We enjoyed a drink at the bar afterwards, there was a singer on and the place full of locals enjoying a Saturday night out, we thoroughly enjoyed ours.

Have been going to Wheatsheaf for 3 years and have never been disappointed. Paid our first visit last weekend after the management change. Sadly it was not a happy visit. Whilst the staff were still friendly and efficient the menu has changed and not for the better. Poor choices on all courses and more expensive. Massive fish which was very greasy and chicken pie that was tasteless and lukewarm. Not the food provision to tempt either tourists or locals. Unfortunately it is now off our list for "Ladies who Lunch"

We only stopped for drinks. We were served quickly and the staff were friendly. The food that was served at other tables looked well presented. The toilets were clean. There is car parking with a barrier, ask at the bar for the code to get out. There is an outside dining area. A pleasant place to stop.

Disappointed in the normally excellent Wheatsheaf for a Sunday carvery today. Prices are up by £2 a plate, and the portion sizes have now reduced - so a small plate is just 1 slice of meat. I can understand the price rise, it has been really good value for a couple of years now, but combining that with portion reduction means that we'll be giving it a miss in future. Pity, but lots of good alternatives for Sunday family lunch.

Feel compelled to write this because of the comments in the last review. My family and I visit the Wheatsheaf on a regular basis (yesterday included) . We have always found the staff very attentive, polite and helpful. The carvery is always excellent. Their 'system' seems to work here and alot of other places that do a ticket system. Cannot fault our meal yesterday (19/03/17) but the atmosphere was spoilt somewhat by a family who decided to cause a huge scene in the dining room.Keep up the good work wheatsheaf :)

We arrived at 12.15 for lunch to be told we would have to wait for a table for 5 to be available. Eventually after 45 mins we were told a table was available. We then presumed after ordering the car very buffet we would be able to get up and collect it without further delay. Wrong! We were told we would have to wait our turn in the queue because some people who had been fortunate to get seated immediately on entering were "ahead" of us. When we questioned this as to why someone who had been there 10 mins had precedence over people who by then had been waiting an hour we were told by the surly waitress "well that's the system". When asking to see the manager we were then confronted by an aggressive chap who seemed only concerned in justifying his system and who had clearly never been to charm school. The whole experience was "take it or leave it" and customer last. Pity because the food was ok but needless to say we won't be returning.

Stopped here for lunch on a Thursday afternoon. The place was empty not a good sign but the place was tidy warm and we got a very warm welcome. Shown to our table, we had the pick of the place. Drinks order taken very quickly, and arrived very quickly. Two menus to chose from the standard and a specials. We ordered from the specal menu 3 courses.Starter of Black pudding with apple sauce.Pork pie and chips as a main, the pork pie was not what I had expected, puff pastry top and with pork in gravy. with a good selection of vegetables.Sweet was a Lemon meringue and ice cream. All three courses were very well presented, and tasted delicious. Our waitress was very attentive and I feel she would be the same if the the restaurant had been full.If in Corbridge again we will visit. Give this place a try.

We used this hotel before going to Slaley Hall. Stayed one night. Rooms lovely and clean, comfy beds and good facilities. Staff and host very friendly and did lots of extras for us to make our stay enjoyable. Excellent secure car park, so all in all a very positive experience and excellent value for money. Lovely cooked breakfast too, and really lovely staff in restaurant.

Lovely traditional pub, pleasant staff and lovely grub. I went for the Balmoral Chicken (chicken stuffed with haggis and wrapped in bacon)- absolutely mouthwatering! The husband had Cumberland sausage served in a Yorkshire pudding on a bed of mash; he said this was okay - he actually preferred mine! He also described the beer as 'top notch'! In short, nice, tasty pub scran -would definitely come back.

We were a party of five having a midweek evening meal,my son who has special needs and is also type 1 diabetic was also eating. Along with our food we ordered drinks, my son always has Diet Coke. Later on in the evening I couldn't understand why my sons blood sugars were so high. Then the next morning they were still high, the only explanation for this is that he was given normal coke and not the Diet Coke we asked for. I phoned and spoke to the manager to inform her about what had happened only to be told that if I ordered a Diet Coke that is what I would have been given. I don't think she realised the seriousness of this and said she would have known the difference between diet and normal Coke! I will definitely not be returning anyway as the food was tasteless, the rice was over cooked mush. The only nice part of the meal was one of our party had the steak which was nice.

This was a total disastererous lunch at Rosemarys. There is no sign to tell you to order at counter and pay, the staff just look at you!!!. I ordered 2 fruit scones 1 plain scone and a tomato soup. Cappuccino and Latte and decaf Cappucino. Paid £29.00 very expensive, as I actually never got one of the fruit scones. The two girls serving seem very disinterested in serving the customers and I couldnt see who was doing the cooking in the cupboard!. I received one of the coffees and it was stone cold, asked for it to be heated & think they just microwaved it as came back in same cup!!. Soup was served without my fruit scone, it was actually ok, but I will not be returning any time soon. And to top it all they do not have customer toilets!!!!! what kind of a cafe is this!!!!! 😡😡😡

Disappointed... restaurant right at the back of the garden center...hubby has full English which was adequate.. although the black pudding was likened to a hockey puck..scrabbled egg on toast for me..egg was hard lumps and cold..as was my coffee... overpriced for what it was..

Nice little hotel bar right on the Main Street of Alnwick I had drink several times during our stay in Alnwick. Margaret had the chilli which she said was nice. I wasn’t hungry so had the potato skins which came with a barbecue sauce and garlic mayo, which were ok but out of a bottle.
