On a walk around and stopped for some refreshment. The beer was well kept and the bar staff was polite. We observed a local having a Ploughmans Lunch and what a plate full.....we shall return in better time to this proper family friendly country pub......

In these difficult times for all people and businesses it is so refreshing to go a proper English pub. Yes, I love finding a place where people are friendly, atmosphere is fantastic and being a Yorkshireman knowing everyone will treat you like a friend. Without any doubt I would put the Wheatsheaf in the top 10 pubs in England. A lovely main bar with a roaring fire and knick-knacks all over the walls. A very welcoming husband and wife team. A cracking set of beer. A place where time has stood still. You could stay all day! Lovely village easily accessible. Now they are starting snacks. If you want to immerse yourself in what a pub should be like head to the Wheatsheaf-you will return!

Lovely pub with exceptionally welcoming landlord on a rather soggy opening day of this year's beer festival. We enjoyed our drinks before continuing on our walk. Very dog friendly (Ruby our Staffie had her picture taken and added to the picture wall) with excellent Covid precautions in place. We look forward to visiting again.

You're sure to receive a warm welcome from owners, staff and locals when you visit this quaint, country pub. This pub is one we go to regually and always been very impressed , however it has recently changed handsand is now a total let down, I must say if the new owners don't up their game they are going to ruin a very good pub, we went for Sunday lunch and it was one of the worst I've ever had.... granted the food was all homemade however it must of been cooked the day before and put in the microwave to warm through as all we could hear from the kitchen was the pinging of the microwave and when we were served the food it was still cold and the homemade Yorkshire puddings were soggy the veg was floppy and slimy, the stuffing had been put on the plate straight from the fridge...the table next to us complained about their meal been cold also and the landlords response was well that's why the prices are low, well at £11 for 1 course I wouldn't say that was low I would say that an average price but for there it's a very expensive price for cold tasteless food....it was inedible... i definately won't be returning....

This is the worst Sunday lunch I have ever had presented to me, it had obviously been cooked the day before and reheated in the microwave, as all you could hear was ping ping ping, Yorkshire puddings like Frizbies, veg over cooked and slimey and floppy, tasteless gravy, and to top all cold when it was served, for£11 I expected something worth eating, hence would not recommend

Couldn’t recommend The Wheatsheaf Inn enough, amazing food, great staff and very welcoming. They are many selections of great food on offer from starters through to deserts. At The Wheatsheaf they do themed nights like pie night, around the world tasting, pizza night, gin night and much more. I would highly recommended the pizza nights here! Made in the Pizza Sheds pizza oven. All freshly made to order and very tasty. The cupcakes on offer for a light dessert on pizza night are also amazing! You can keep up to date with the theme nights on there Facebook page. All prices are very cheap for the portion sizes and for such great food. Would definitely pay more for all the food here. Will be returning here as often as I can!

We were really looking forward to the Beer and Sausage Festival last Saturday night so were sadly disappointed when our platefuls arrived - four barely warm sausages next to a pile of limp, soggy chips cooked in what tasted like not too fresh oil and ladled over with a peat coloured gravy. I know it's hard to cater for lots of people over the day but no-one minds waiting for freshly cooked food, and if they'd offered 3 flavours of sausage instead of eight, it would've been easy to cook for each order and well worth the £8 per head (or even £10!)

Phoned on spec as they don't always seem to do food, but managed to get a table for 2 with relatively short notice. There was a roaring log fire in the main bar and it was quite busy for so early on a Friday with the usual smattering of regulars. The Daleside beer is one of my favourites and is very well kept. They also do some lovely wines by the glass and a glass of Malbec suited the wife. We were offered a menu within minutes of sitting down by the very friendly local waitress and it contained some fairly predictable pub fodder but one or two specials also. We were shown to our table in the small but comfortable dining room next to the main bar. My breaded King Prawns and side salad were freshly cooked and crisp, the wife went for the smoked salmon and prawn platter which provided an ample portion. My main was the Thai Chicken Curry with half chips and half rice as well as a nan bread - all faultless. We shared a pear and strawberry crumble with cream - far too indulgent! A lovely evening we will look to repeat.

You get great portions, a good selection of English pub classics and a couple of more contemporary options. This is a genuine local pub, and on the night we visited it was full of local people who were friendly and inclusive. Made up of several smaller areas (one on each side of the bar and a dining room), the pub is definitely not modern in its decor, offering instead an interesting mix of shabby and character. The early bird menu (available from 5.30 until 7.30pm) really is excellent value, and the food is delicious too. We went for the three course option. The soup was particularly delicious (broccoli and Stilton). The mains were fresh, tasty and generous in size. The fish pie was full of fish, and came with four large side dishes - new potatoes, beans, cauliflower and carrots. The fish and chips came with homemade fresh chips. And the quality and flavour continued with the desserts - it was difficult to choose from the considerable number of options, but we were all very pleased with our selections, as we were with our choice of this village pub for our one dinner in the area in this visit.

We visited the Wheat Sheaf Inn by chance when we were looking for somewhere for Sunday lunch travelling home from a weekend away. My husband picked you out from the Good Beer Guide, real ale being his usual priority and diverted off the A19. The diversion is very worthwhile, it is a lovely village pub which was quite busy when we arrived having been decended upon by cyclists, but the landlady was very helpful when we asked if we could get lunch for two. After checking with the kitchen showed us to a very smart dining room. It was traditional Sunday lunch with a choice of meat and we chose the chicken and beef. It was a while arriving but were warned of this before taking the table, which was fine and worth waiting for. The meat, yorkshire and roast potatoes arrived with gravy, all piping hot, fresh sliced chicken and two huge slices of beef. Vegetable arrived in serving dishes, first came french beans and carrots which I thought was fine, but this was foĺlowed by mashed swede and cauliflower cheese, and a separate gravy boat. Absolutely delicious, the whole meal could not be faulted, unfortunately we didn't have room for dessert but left very contented and will return if ever in the area again.

We heard about the great reputation The Wheatsheaf has for food a few weeks in advance of our visit and booked as soon as we could. The night we attended was a Mexican night and was well worth the trip and money - for a very reasonable price we were treated to a great spread of homemade and delicious Mexican food. Not quite what you normally expect from a real ale pub in a sleepy Yorkshire village! The menu was:Nachos with homemade salsa/pico de gallo and guacamole Sweet Chilli Pulled Pork Soft TacosChicken and Sweetcorn BBQ Crispy TacosSpicy Chicken FajitaChilli Beef EnchildaSizzling Steak with Peppers. All in all a great range of tasty food served in a lovely location for a very reasonable price!

Whilst visiting the area we came to the Wheatsheaf in for lunch,on both occasions the experience was wonderful in every way. The menu was simple, I liked the idea that every main dish was the same price, but there was plenty of choice. On the second visit we had a desert as well and these were super, especially the choice of a trio for the same price. The good was great, fantastic value for money in an amazing setting. The staff on both occasions were great, very pleasant and welcoming. I can't praise this place highly enough, we will be back!

We called on spec today for a quick lunch prior to visiting friends in the area. The welcome was friendly. Staff and customers were most welcoming to our two little dogs. How nice this was. The food was most acceptable . Decent-sized portions and a lovely selection of seasonal vegetables. Pity not all pubs are so accommodating.

Quirky little coffee shop with great food. Small carpark, but street parking available. Popular with walkers and cyclists.

Had a very pleasant brunch here with my wife; waffle with caramelised banana and maple syrup, and a cheese and ham croissant. Both very tasty. Very friendly service. Located right on the town square. Happy to recommend.

I came here for lunch and a brew, ordered the bacon Brie panini, a cake and a pot of tea. It's a lovely cafe with hard working friendly staff. I've been a couple of times before when passing through Thirsk so knew the food would be good, which it was. The panini was really nice, I would give 5* but always think (and especially this time of year) that a bacon and bri panini should come with cranberry sauce. I'll definitely be back though the next time I'm passing through.
