We called in at the end of a fab walk. The welcome was lovely and the decor was even nicer. Robyn clearly takes real pride. Unfortunately it was raining, so we found ourselves stranded and forced to stay for 4 very enjoyable pints. We're told that food will be available from the end of July. If you're passing then pop in and support this great pub.

Full of unsavoury hunting thugs. The pub clearly supports them and their behaviour. Not fit for families.

We had an absolutely fantastic Sunday lunch today. In a way don’t want to recommend as want to keep it our go to place. Fantastic food, expertly seasoned and so tasty, good size portions without being stingy or wasteful, staff friendly and helpful 10⭐️ Julie, Matthew and family

We booked Sunday Lunch: it was the first time we have been to this restaurant. We had a lovely drive through the Yorkshire countryside and arrived at the pub to find it has good views over the Vale of York. There is a nice beer garden and dogs are welcome. Having recently moved to the area we are keen to find good places to eat and this is definitely one of them. I chose roast beef from the Sunday lunch menu and my husband had slow cooked pork, The chicken liver pate starter I had was really good and was served with a little, delicious chutney and a small salad on the side. My husband had a good portion of whitebait, served with a small salad. The beef was served slightly pink (perfect for me!) and my husband's pork was succulent with well crisped crackling. There was a good selection of accompanying vegetables. We did not have dessert, we were too full! The staff were really friendly and welcoming and we felt that we could have asked for anything and it would be no trouble. The owners are working hard to build up a post-Covid business and we will definitely be visiting this pub often.

We went for Sunday lunch today, 5th June 2022. The interior is a little dated but very clean. Staff were very welcoming. We had starters of broccoli and stilton soup which was delicious. My wife had fish cake which was mainly filled with mashed potato and very little fish. We both had a roast beef Sunday lunch. The meal was plentiful but served cold. This was very disappointing, and it’s hard to understand why people struggle to supply a hot meal. The pub was virtually empty so god only knows how they will cope if it gets busy.

Superb Sunday lunch today. Generous portions and interesting selection of vegetables. Dauphinois potatoes in addition to roast potato, huge Yorkshire pudding, carrot, broccoli, mashed swede, cauliflower cheese. Good beer too! Lovely rural pub.

The website says the pub is open 12 until 12 on a Saturday. I went there at 2.45 pm on Saturday 21 May '22. The chalkboard in the car park said "we are open" . The curtains were all closed and the door was locked...The drive there was nice, though.

Average, had a couples night here and they had rose tinted glasses. Don't get me wrong, welcoming hosts and nice venue. Food was okay, rather expensive for what was served but its a small village pub. The place has aspirations but the chef won't deliver, but he or she tries. Got horrendously noisy at about 9pm when the locals arrived with children and domino games. Probably okay for a quick bite after a cycle or walk but don't go out of your way if you want good food and some quiet ambiance. It caters for locals which you can't blame them for, but there are better closer by.

Totally disappointed with the whole evening. Service poor, steak not cooked to as it should be. Expensive night to have to send food back. Lack of acknowledgement is bad manners. Wont be rushing back. Total let down

We have regularly eaten out at the Gold Cup over the years so when it changed hands last year we hoped that it would continue with the same high standards of food, decor and welcome. Unfortunately our first visit was very disappointing so we left it 6 months or so to try it again, hoping that the new owners would 'settle in'. Unfortunately things had not improved a great deal. I wish it well but for now anyway, we will eat elsewhere - maybe try again in another 6 months!

I have visited the pub quite often over the years and latterly at least once a week. The food is excellent, all freshly cooked with many of the dishes (including the pies) being made by the chef Richard; yes, sometimes we have had to wait a little while for our food but it is so good - and plenty of it, that it is worth the wait. The pub has a lovely atmosphere. I really can't understand Dewsburyman who gives the impression that standards have dropped (which they certainly haven't) and says the lettering outside has been changed from rich gold to grayish white - the only thing that has changed outside is the name of the Licensee above the door so not sure where that last comment has come from.

My husband and I used to stop here for a meal now and again en route to the northeast or on the way home.. The former landlady, Judith, was so warm and welcoming and their homemade steak pie with shortcrust pastry absolutely delicious, with lots of beef chunks in rich gravy.....We stopped by today and everything had changed..New landlords, not as friendly, and the steak pie had a puff pastry and less meat with a thin gravy..I had to ask for more as some pieces were dryish.. We were very disappointed and doubt that we will go back..What a shame..(they even changed the rich, gold lettering outside, replacing it with some grayish white letters!)

I visited the Gold Cup Inn after locdown restrictions allowed. They have installed a Marquee in the garden for outside dining. The new couple were very welcoming and the food was lovely. I understand one of the couple is the chef and the other front of house, seemingly working well. We had the steak pie, it was a PROPA pie, base and all! My other half had the Parmo..... i understand this is a nothern dish? Anyway it was really nice. Local ale on Draught too, just what you needed after lock down. This is a vast improvement on our last visit and we wish them the best of luck and see you soon. Definatley worth a visit!

Having booked for Sunday lunch, we weren’t disappointed the meal was lovely and plentiful We opted to stay for a while after and the children played in the beer garden. However, the main thing that spoilt the whole visit for us was the amount of people stood in the doorway and just outside the door smoking and swearing. Our children were walking through this every time they entered or exited as we had too and the colourful language they used was something else. Appreciating you cannot choose your clientele I mentioned it to another gentleman who informed me they are locals and two of them stand there all the time!! The sheer amount of cigarette ends outside seemed to confirm this. Certainly off putting for me and not something I wish to subject my family too, so I won’t be returning. A smoking shelter would possibly be a better idea, rather than the main entrance and porch.

Ok so my score is based on the food. We visited here for the first time for Sunday lunch following the reviews and being 5 rated. The pub is set in a pretty village and the staff were very friendly but the food was really not great and we may have just hit it on a bad day. The best part of the Sunday lunch was the cauliflower cheese this was very good. All in all we have tried it unfortunately won’t be returning.

Another recommendation which turned out a winner. A recent visit for Sunday Lunch was rewarded by plentiful, good quality food served on hot plates, always a good sign. The beer on offer was well kept and the wines good too. A warm and welcoming environment added to the experience and the bill, at the end, was very reasonable indeed. Definitely a place to return to.

We happened across this pub whilst travelling home after visiting amount Grace Priory. The pub was signposted off the A19 heading south.I was craving a Sunday Roast and this pub certainly didn't disappoint. The pub offers a good selection for Sunday lunch. It was excellent value at £7.95. I had roast pork, stuffing, crackling. It came with a massive selection of sides too. Mashed potato, carrot & suede mash, cauliflower cheese, selection of vegetables and extra gravy. The decor is that of a typical village pub and it is obviously the hub of the village. It was lovely to see. I would definitely recommend a trip here.
