What a great place, service was excellent and the decor was really nice, I had the pantry club sandwich which was excellent and the best coleslaw I have ever had, aso the cakes were excellent, overall great experience and would definitely go back

The Pantry Breakfast is probably the best breakfast around! Great quality, well prepared and presented AND on a hot plate. Friendly staff and Christmas music playing too. What could be better.

Parked in car park next door, went in the Pantry sat down and was given a menu after about 15 minutes they hadn't made eye contact or enquired about our order. So as we had no idea how long it would take we got up and left without any comment from staff.

We had an afternoon tea delivered for a hen do. Everyone loved their afternoon tea food and it was a highlight of the weekend!

Very small & quiet place for seating & discussing with friends while having a cup of tea and very light meal. Nothing big or exciting here, but nice all the same. UPDATE: After 6 years of my first review, The Pantry has improved so well, expanded in size, and with more items on the menu. Their English breakfast was such a satisfaction and on point, lovely staffs. Enjoy!

Have just visited this super cafe today where I was treated with kindness and expertise by the staff regarding gluten Free options. The gf breakfast was delicious. The whole experience was extremely positive in comparison to what I experienced at another cafe round the corner. I can thoroughly recommend the pantry. My husband, who is not gf is also looking forward to sampling different foods there. Many thanks.

Great place to eat. The food is always freshly cooked and the side salads, homemade coleslaw and dressings are really tasty. The desserts are homemade and the portions are good. Staff are welcoming and good at their jobs.

Thirsk is a lovely & lively Market Town in North Yorkshire. The Pantry offers gorgeous food & excellent tea and coffee. The pastries & cakes are to die for. Great friendly staff and a beautifully clean cafe 👍👍👍👍👍

The Pantry supplied another splendid buffet at my retirement housing building recently - the food was delicious, everything was well organised bringing everything needed and was well managed by Lucy on her own for about 30 people in attendance. Thank you for making it a good event for the family.

Afternoon tea is delicious with warm scones and home baked cakes

What a wonderful place fantastic food and brilliant staff. We took our daughters there whe we got married and the table had a just married balloon on it what a wonderful touch thank you

Had a mug of mushroom soup, halloumi, avocado with chilli jam panini which also came with a salad, coleslaw and crisps.Hubby had bacon, sausage, egg and black pudding on a large wholemeal bun and a cappuccino. Absolutely delicious. Neither of us could fault our experience. The young lady who served us is a definite asset to this lovely place.

Plus points: A lovely friendly cafe with a warm welcome from the staff. The coffee was delicious and the tea cake very buttery and scrumptious. For that reason I have given three stars. Negative points: My friend and I ordered a cappuccino each with toasted crumpet and tea cake, then took our seats inside the cafe. We waited a good five minutes before the waitress arrived at our table carrying one cappuccino and one mug (presumably intended for staff use). Another few minutes passed before the second cappuccino arrived. A further 10 minutes passed before our crumpets and tea cakes arrived. The waitress said she’d fetch us each a knife, but didn’t return so I asked another waitress for two knives. These arrived at the table and were plonked down on the bare table and one of the knives was clearly dirty. I called another passing waitress to request another clean knife. She took it and returned a minute later with the SAME knife, now wiped clean. The dirty knife should have gone straight into the wash/dishwasher and a fresh knife supplied. All cutlery SHOULD have been wrapped in a paper napkin so it didn’t make contact with the table top, no matter how clean it may be. I dislike complaining but I have a kitchen hygiene certificate and have served in a cafe myself and this type of service would not have been acceptable. In a time of heightened awareness of hygiene it is absolutely vital that the cafes which we love to support with our custom, adhere stringently to immaculate hygiene procedures.

Had afternoon tea here during a couple of nights stay in Thirsk. It felt really cosy and homely with lots of lovely christmas decorations up! The staff were kind and welcoming. The sandwiches, scones and cakes were all lovely, some of which we had to take home with us as we were so full! Would highly recommend!

We visited The Pantry on the recommendation of another retailer in Thirsk and this place doesn't disappoint! I had the homemade red pepper and courgette soup which was delicious, followed by a mint, coconut and chocolate slice.

Lovely tea shop. Tea served in a kettle, heavy but a welcome relief after visit to James Herriott.

Very nice cafe home cooked food very clean and friendly

Ordered hot chocolates which were served very quickly with plenty of cream and marshmallows, the workers made conversation and asked if anything else was needed, very friendly people to associate with. Would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a lovely and peaceful place to eat/drink and enjoy their time.

Arrived at 2pm in the afternoon which we thought would be a quiet time as a table of 2. Went in the hope of having afternoon tea but that is no longer an option so decided to have panini’s, when our order was taken we told that they didn’t have panini, Fanta and bacon, therefore had to change our order to toasties. We ordered tea and a chocolate milkshakes (would have had Fanta) the milkshake was practically milk in a cup with chocolate down the side. Then my tea went cold by the time we got our toasties as it took over half an hour to get them. When I asked when our food would arrive as we had been waiting a while I was rudely answered with your next and no apology for the long wait. Whilst we had been waiting tables came and left as they weren’t been served. The toastie came and were okay but the salad that came with it was dry with no dressing but the crisps and coleslaw were very nice. Our plates were never cleared and we were not asked if we would like anything and neither were any other tables. Hoping for a improvement as used to be a great place to go.

The food was very good but too much. I would have paid the same prive for half the amount. I may then have had room for one of their very nice cakes.

Myself & my mother strolled in here on Tuesday 29 July to be met by a cheery welcome from the young lady at the desk and were promptly presented with the menu. There was a good selection of light lunches (sandwiches/ salads etc) as well as afternoon tea and some delicious looking cakes. We both opted for ham salad and our enquiries about dietary requirements were answered politely and efficiently; the salads themselves were fresh and very enjoyable (the onion chutney was an absolute joy to eat!) We were tempted by the cakes and decided to share a slice of ginger loaf with cinnamon icing and a slice of almond cake. We told the waitress what we planned and, for the first time ever, our cakes arrived ready cut and on our respective plates - now that's what I call good service. As for the cakes themselves they were full of subtle flavours, moist and incredibly more-ish! Throughout our whole visit the service was efficient and friendly (without being intrusive) and the cafe was beautifully clean. We will definitely pay a return visit.

Set out from base today (Newcastle) , a drive through North Yorkshire & a stop off for lunch at the"Pantry" in Thirsk. This is our second visit to this very pleasant Award winning Tea rooms.Great food ,great coffee & great value for money & helpful staff .

We visit Thirsk at least once a year and The Pantry is the first choice for lunch, even our nine year old asks to go there first. Lovely menu with great homemade cakes and biscuits, served by very helpful friendly staff. Whether you just need a coffee and snack or a hearty meal, The Pantry will not disappoint.

Fantastic food, friendly and attentive staff

Dropped into this little cafe for a morning snack and coffee and were not disappointed. We had a delicious home cured bacon sandwich on granary bread and a home made scone with jam and clotted cream. Both were first class and served efficiently with a smile.We found a very comfortable leather couch facing the window and were able to watch the world go by in comfort. A very pleasing little cafe which does the job properly as it should be done .Happy therefore to give it a without reservation recommendation.

Our second visit to this very friendly cafe. I had a decaffeinated Americano and my husband had a Cappuccino, both excellent. We shared a fruit scone, which was freshly baked and delicious. If you visit Thirsk please try this lovely cafe. Margaret and David, Hellifield, Skipton.

We were in Thirsk shopping with friends and looking for some where to have a drink and a snack. We came across this Cafe and decided to give it a try. The staff were really friendly and obliging. The tea is Yorkshire tea and very nice. The scones with cinnamon and orange were delicious. We really enjoyed our drinks and snacks. It’s a nice place to eat!

Good selection of cakes, along with sandwiches, jacket potatoes and daily specials with larger meals a available.

Visited during my day trip to Thirsk, had a latte and cheese / caramelized onion sandwich. Latte was lovely and warm, sandwich was on fresh bread and served with crisps and salad. Well worth a visit if your in Thirsk.

One of my favourite Cafes in the market town of Thirsk. However, this visit was very disappointing. Café walls bare, room was cold, no cakes etc display on the little market trolley, virtually no giftware. Decided to have something different for a change and wish I hadn't bother, tasteless. Service wasn't brilliant either. I was overcharged too which didn't help. Sadly, I wont be going again.

Today, we went to the Pantry......probably our 5th or 6th visit in the last 18 months. We waited and waited and aside from getting a menu....that was it.....nothing! There was one girl messing about making drinks when she should've been taking orders! We don't mind waiting....but we don't like being ignored. The couple at the next table just looked at us and said....."don't blame you!" If they'd have explained there would be a delay and maybe sorted us some drinks out, we'd have been fine.....we're not difficult people. One couple who came in after us, got up and left before we decided to pull the plug! The young girl making the drinks just said "sorry" as we left....they knew people were leaving! Then we headed off to the Golden Fleece in the market square.....which was lovely as usual. Don't think we'll bother going back to the Pantry.....the waiting was bad enough.....but the attitude when we and others left was really, really poor.....what a shame because it's been ok in the past.

Just payed a visit here, chose a table but were seated at a table covered in the previous occupants detritus with a stern look like 2 badly behaved children. We were then left sitting 20 minutes on a dirty table waiting for anyone to take our order. We left, went somewhere more hospitable... Thanks for nothing!

Popped in for a coffee. Having spoken to one of the team their, decided to have breakfast. Was the best decision ever. The cafe is immaculate. Clean and very well presented. The team are brilliant. The young lady that served us, Amelia, was polite, friendly and incredibly professional. She suggest the full English, which I obliged and my wife had scrambled egg on toast.

Called in with a friend for a late breakfast. We were met with a lovely smile from young lady who gave us a menu. We decided to sit on their sofas near the window, it was really comfy. We both decided on a breakfast sandwich one with sausage and the other with bacon a cup of tea and a Madagascar hot chocolate. The service was prompt the food was delicious and very hot. My hot chocolate was something different but delicious will definitely have to go again to have another. Little blip with the cuppa a little cool but this was addressed very quickly and efficiently. Can’t wait for a return visit but it will be for lunch the menu was very inviting.

Popped in after work for a coffee and cake but I love this lunch special so much I had to have it again. Goats cheese, leaves, figs and nuts....so delicious! Followed by a large cappuccino and coffee cake. Totally splendid!

We popped into the Pantry because everywhere in the main square was packed out, quite pleased we did. We ordered a Rarebit with bacon, which surprisingly had bread in it rather than toast which is what we expected, but it looked good, smelled good and was very tasty. I had nachos with pulled pork with melted cheese, a good size portion and was lovely even if the pork was a little too sweet to be perfect. We also ordered tea for two which came in a Japanese style teapot, which was quirky, but you need strong wrists as the pot is very heavy, I could imagine you might get pensioners who would struggle to lift the pot. All in all a nice experience and not too expensive.

We popped in for a cup of tea about half an hour before it was due to close on a Saturday afternoon. The staff were young,friendly and attentive even though it was so close to closing. My husband and I each chose tea and the Bakewell tart, from a good selection of homemade cakes. The Bakewell tart when it came was a really generous portion and my husband and I both agreed it was the best Bakewell tart we had tasted- nice thin pastry, generous amounts of jam and a beautiful almond sponge. My only regret was that we were not in Thirsk longer to have a return visit.

Visited here on Saturday for lunch. I had the homemade soup with warm bread roll which was lovely and my husband had the seasonal Turkey baguette with all the trimmings which he said was delicious.

We found this cafe by chance on a visit to Thirsk to the James Herriot museum. It was very friendly service and our scones were excellent. Very unusual teapots!

Lovely staff, lovely food , homely atmosphere

I managed a trip into town without the pooch, so popped into the Pantry, as I'd read glowing reviews. I have to say the chocolate caramel shortbread (Millionaire's shortbread) was divine. Bought a couple of afternoon tea vouchers at the same time as a gift, and almost didn't want to give them away! Staff are lovely, very helpful

Called for afternoon tea and wow it was the best one we have Had!!! Sandwiches scones with clotted cream and jam and full size pieces of cake. Very clean and staff very nice. Will certainly call when up again.

I visited the Pantry with my wife and friends, lovely establishment, well placed for the car parks and town centre. Clean and comfortable with plenty of tables in two rooms, one off the street and one at the back. Extensive menu with good choices for main meals, snacks and cakes. I had the soup and sandwich choice, the soup was delicious and clearly homemade. Service on this occasion was good and food arrived relatively quickly. Would recommend to anyone.

The tea, coffee and cake were spot on, pleasant service and reasonable prices. The Pantry is a clean tea room with decent savoury and sweet items on the menu, obviously well used by locals. The space is tight so definitely not suitable for buggy’s or mobility aides but nevertheless it was well worth the visit.

I live in Thirsk & don’t get chance to call in here much due to work However when I do the food is always 100% & so is the service 😃

Lovely friendly local cafe, with comfy seats. Afternoon tea is delicious and very plentiful. Cakes are scrummy.

They were very busy but we found a table and sat down. We were sat for 10 mins and still no one had come to bring us any menus or ask what we wanted to drink! I managed to catch one of the waiting staff's eye. She smiled and nodded and indicated she would be 1 min. After a further 10 mins of waiting we left. All I can say is the food smelled lovely and looked nice. We were disappointed not to have been given the chance to try it.

I pop in here fairly regularly for a coffee and the occasional cake. The staff are very friendly, the service is good and the cakes are delicious! I can recommend the chocolate cake and also the caremel slice.

We found this place by accident while waiting for a new tyre to be fitted on the car and enjoyed it so much we went back 3 days later. Really nice food, great selection and very reasonable prices.

It is always a treat to visit the Pantry, the food is always delicious, especially the desserts! Plenty of room for prams too. Can’t wait to go back.

A short walk from the town centre, near the river bridge, we found this smart and busy little tea room. Most of the customers seemed from conversations and greetings to be local. My wife had a toasted tea cake and coffee. I had a slice of delicious, moist rich fruit cake served with a good slice of Wensleydale cheese (as it should be in Yorkshire!). The tea was served in a heavy cast-iron teapot which had not been pre-warmed, so it was not hot when it had brewed. However the waitress "hotted it up" without question.

The Pantry is a really lovely place to spend an hour or so. The food is delicious, the staff are friendly and helpful and it is beautifully decorated as well. They have delicious homemade food and I highly recommend their chocolate cake. They have been excellent every time that I have visited.

Had lunch here and as the title says, the service was great. The food was nice, but slightly on the expensive side, but as cafes go, it is worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Lunch stop on the way north. Very good garlic mushrooms and partner had very cheesy rarebit. Good strength coffee too.
