Black Horse in Hambleton

Went for a meal and was meeting daughter and son in law, first time of visit by us. We had a meal and it was very tasty, the dessert was to die for according to daughter. We had been given a side room just off the bar and near the WC for the missus, the staff could not do enough, very friendly and attentive. The chef came out later on to have a chat. Definitely on our list to go back, the outside area is huge with decent seating and quite a few outside "rooms" would be marvellous in the summer. Little bit of a trek, just past Northallerton, but they do rooms so you could stay over and have a drink. All in all a great night in a great place. Would highly recommend.

Stayed in the camper for two nights with electric hookup. Beautiful dog friendly inn, nice choice of beers and casks. A delicious menu for meals, spoilt for choice. Each meal we chose was extremely delicious, good fresh hot and great service. The staff are great, very friendly ,good banter and very good at their job. There is a field at the bottom of the carpark where our dog loved to run and stretch.We will be back soon, with friends. Big thankyou to Stephen and his team for helping make the weekend special. Please keep up the good work.

Lovely set out bar & restaurant. Suberb staff, cheery and helpful. Down a star because of hotel working & aircraft noise.

great restaurant experience - really nice atmosphere, a wedding proposal on one table and two big birthday party celebrations on two others, wonderful buzzy atmosphere. Staff worked incredibly hard, menu was extensive and varied beyond the normal gastro pub range. Food was excellent - good quality ingredients imaginatively combined, we loved, it! We were staying overnight in a very comfortably and nicely furnished room, and breakfast was excellent. Well done to everyone involved in this great business, you deserve success.

We stayed overnight in our motorhome our first night motorhomimg, so glad we stayed here great place to stay, fab food warm welcome. I would highly recommend. And dog friendly. Thank you.

4 of us went back after a fantastic evening a few months ago. When we arrived we had a very warm welcome and told it was a brand new menu on. We ordered our drinks and looked over the menu (we were all stuck for choice) We all decided to try different dishes so we could try each others. To start we had Oak salmon with a Thai stir fry and coconut and sweetcorn sauce (amazing!) Goats cheese parcel with a mango and chilli dipping sauce Scotch egg (which I had last time) so good! And the bread and dips All were very tasty and well presented. Then we had 14oz rib eye on the bone Tandoori chickpea and sweet potato curry (to say this was vegan it was an absolute taste sensation!) Steak pie with chips (very good) but the veg that came with it was sensational (even tho it was only peas and carrots, we had to ask for the waitress to ask the chef how he did them! Bangers and mash with tenderstem broccoli and a onion just was also fantastic Then we just shared a couple of desserts- Panna cotta with poached plums and sticky ginger sauce. We asked do you do Sunday roasts and they said we do but it’s worth booking as it’s very busy. Next time we will try Top service and top grub!

Went out as a couple for a quiet meal only to find that the restaurant was in darkness and only the noisy bar in use. Four small tables were cramped together near the fireplace on both sides of the room, we were put on one of these, only to find ten minutes later that others were placed next to us on both sides (sat on one long bench) cramped up like school dinners! Feeling unable to talk to each other (as were the others!) This is the second time this has happened to us recently, No one wants to come out and have this happen, we will not return! We struggled to choose anything off the menu - if we had wanted a burger we would have gone to McDonalds there would have been more space to sit! Pie and mash was literally that as was sausage and mash - not a piece of veg in site! You do expect a balanced meal when paying in a restaurant. Disappointing, this is not the Black Horse we have been used to.

We stayed here for its location, the rooms are nicely decorated and the food was great. Only issue we had was we had the laundry room next to our bathroom and the next room shower / toilet behind our headboard. The shower next door and the toilet we could hear whilst in bed . The washing machine and dryer was droning away when we arrived into our room. Would have been great if nobody was in the next room.

Very comfortable room and a yummy dinner and breakfast. We would certainly return if travelling North again. Better than expected.

Lovely Sunday lunch, everything was really tasty, with lots of fresh veg and extra gravy. The crumble was beautiful, with a crunchie topping and lots of custard. Staff very friendly and welcoming will definitely return

Been numerous times and did panic my usual stonebass wasn't on the menu...I needn't have. Went for the croquettes followed by the three little pigs of Kirkby Fleetham and it was divine. Can never fault this place. Wonderful welcome, attentive wait staff and everytime I have visited there's a guy stood/sat at or near the door, who I assume is the owner, to check you were happy and wish you good night. Top staff, exquisite food for an amazing price and a really nice atmosphere. Will keep coming back. Side note, although I didn't stay on this occasion I have stayed previously and the rooms are lovely. Will book my next stay soon so I can work my way through the wine menu also.

What a gem this place is, we have been coming every now and then for around 2yrs, we love this place💗 and cannot fault the staff, from the reception you receive to the quality of the food. We stopped over night(again!) recently in our motorhome in the carpark, they even have a free electric point to plug in and the .toilets open all night We have always been made to feel welcome and all the staff are hardworking and wonderful, On this recent occasion we just want to say a big Thank you in particular to Sarah, who gives service with a smile and made our stay even more special, we started with coffee at dinnertime, then we had drinks and an evening meal, Sarah was even there at breakfast the next day! You can see she is extremely hardworking and never stopped.. but then always had that extra little bit of time to check on you and make sure everything is perfect..we could see her doing the same with others too, such a lovely lady. We stayed on a Sunday this time so it seemed fitting to choose the Sunday dinner, which was very tasty 👌 breakfast was also spot on too. Our little dog loves coming here too,( it is dog friendly in the bar) we really can't recommend this place enough.10/10 Heather & Paul and Pip

Visited the lovely black horse today for Sunday lunch. It was AMAZING! Gorgeous food, lovely and hot. We were booked in for 3pm and was out, after having two courses by 4pm! Didn’t feel rushed at all, just very efficient! Staff were all extremely welcoming. We will definitely be back, even though we live over two hours away. Thank you again to all the staff at the black horse!

This was our second visit to the Black Horse Inn as it is convenient when we are travelling from Dorset to Edinburgh and back as a stop over. The pub is well decorated with its horse racing theme and the rooms are just superb. Good spacious car park and food is first class. Staff are also very helpful and it is truly wonderful country inn.

We had a wonderful stay at the Black Horse Inn, in spite of the weather. The room was most comfortable and the attention to detail was excellent. The food, both breakfast and dinner was outstanding and the staff couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful. We shall certainly be staying again.

What a fabulous couple of nights spent in this lovely little restaurant, with rooms. The rooms were comfy, with everything you need, and the food and service were over & above our expectations! Nothing was too much trouble, Jake was great at breakfast on both days, and the lady who helped us in the evenings was too, asking the chef to personalise dishes to our taste. We would definitely recommend & revisit, if we're in the area again.

We had the four poster bedroom , sadly it was impossible to walk round the bedside near the window as there wasn’t enough room . Even turning sideways to get into the bed wasn’t practical and ended up having to climb over the bed ,I’m too old for that . .The tables were very big and unfortunately the one under the tv didn’t have a mirror so difficult to get make up on.There was a large mirror in the room but I wanted to sit down to do my hair etc . The bathroom didn’t have a shelf over the sink so all the toiletries had to go on the floor . Not practical. The dining room however was beautifully decorated and the food was to die for . We will return but opt for another bedroom .

hi. stayed here in march 2024 for one night. just booked it by chance. lovely quaint place. the staff were very friendly and helpful. horsey themed ,so any who likes horses will love it.doesnt matter if you dont you will still like it. quiet and relaxing. excellent value.would put a lot of very expensive places to shame.

Atmospheric with low ceilings good vibe gorgeous Sunday roast.

Had lunch in The Black Horse, a lovely country pub with roaring fires. Service was exceptional, the staff were polite and hard-working. I had a delicious Halloumi granary sandwich with chips, but sadly, the chips were very obviously warmed up, so I've knocked off a star.

Absolutely fantastic place to stay. Really enjoyable. We have booked again straight away to stay again. Loved it. Room was really lovely big and done with so much taste. Really lovely little touches like Curlywurley instead of biscuits. Food was so good in fact fabulous. Atmosphere was lovely and really popular place to go to say it’s a small village. Make it a must.

Booked in for 1 night on Christmas day. Lovely friendly welcome on arrival and shown to our room. Christmas lunch was fantastic, 3 courses of gorgeous food, the service was excellent, we were asked several times if everything was ok. Breakfast the next day was equally lovely. We hd booked a night's accommodation here along with evening dinner and breakfast. From arrival to departure everything was great. We had a room just off the main building in a separate building and the future was quirky but lovely with a big comfortable bed and excellent shower. Only thing was that we were unable to switch off the fan in the bathroom even during the night. Just had to ensure the bathroom door was closed. Dinner and breakfast was excellent with great service

Found this cracking pub with rooms online, we were looking for somewhere close to the A1 as travelling south to Suffolk. what an amazing delightful and charming experience we had, exceptionally friendly crew, superb dinner and lovely breakfast. Superb rooms very well equipped and nicely appointed. Any one in the area please don't hesitate to use this place for food or accommodation. looking forward to returning in the very near future.

Had a fabulous Sunday lunch at The Black Horse. Menu choice fulfilled every dietary requirement of our family group. The salmon was superb and the beef was delicious. My wife and I was wondering were to go for something nice to eat, and she remembered we came here to the black horse about 18 months ago with some friends. It was a very good decision my wife had the pork dinner and I had the beef dinner it was fantastic and we topped it off with apple crumble and custard, after speaking with the owner who informed us about the suet pudding that is back on the menu as from September so it won’t be too long before we are back.

The pub has been around for years, food currently is really good, I’ve always enjoyed the food so far, the only downside is the fact that you cannot have a beer 22:20 anymore, everything was cleaned out and they were ready to close, the pub is open till 11 tho..

Visited for a meal on a Saturday evening, online booking process was quick and easy. Arrived and were seated quickly, inside decor is nice and effort is clearly made to look after it all. We both ordered the special which was Halibut and Langoustines with mash. Food arrived and we were a bit disappointed that for £27.50 there was only 1 Langoustine (from the s on the end we were expecting at least 2!). Mash was more tepid than hot and a bit lumpy. Halibut was excellent. Service prompt if a little cold (it would have been nice if the lady who took our drinks and who kept asking if we wanted more had smiled at us, however, it looked like she was like this with everyone so we didn’t take it personally). We both had puddings which were delicious. Overall a nice meal out but won’t be rushing to return as it did feel quite expensive for what it was in the end.

We are new to the area so don’t know many good eateries yet! The Black Horse was recommended by a couple of people so when we met up with friends we decided to give this a visit for Sunday lunch. We were not disappointed, the place and service was really good and the food was exceptional. It had a great atmosphere too - we will definitely be going back there.
