Arrived Wednesday 6.35 asked for a table for three to eat. ordered drinks told food would be a bit of a wait. We said fine as it was not very busy. Got menu, waited , waited and waited they had approx 12 people in eating / waiting or ordered.after we were ignored for almost 40 mins waiting my wife went to WC on her return the waiter asks are you ready to order. ?? Not after been ignored for 4o mins , he said ok then took a table of 2's order who had been in the pub 5 mins . Unbelievable to be fair. Normally a great pub with good food no idea why tonight was a complete disaster. But unfortunately you won't see us anymore.

Used the Green Dragon as an over night stay to continue our journey to Northumberland. Very warm welcome on arrival, the room was very very nice, clean and comfy. Dinner was very nice and a good price. The atmosphere was fantastic, great little pub. I slept well and the breakfast was really good, Fall English, pre ordered. Nice and clean. I would recommend staying here. Dog friendly too. Lovely quiet village, just off the A1. A mate and I were sharing the room, on arrival the bed was made into a double bed, this was changed into two singles, very quickly and without fuss. Thank you very much for looking after us.

It’s basically a pub with a few lovely rooms, staff seemed very friendly and helpful, rooms comfortable and quiet. Lovely village setting just mins from the A1. Disappointing breakfast, cooked to order but not cooked well as all meat undercooked and if really cheap quality, expected a decent local produce especially as this is a food pub, kind of felt like the breakfast was an after thought and possibly not their expertise as all a little bland and disappointing , there’s only a few rooms so might be better offering a decent continental rather than a poor attempt at cooked. Ample free parking, good wifi.

We had a two night stay at this pub. All of the staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Our room was well equipped, clean and the bed was really comfortable. We had two breakfasts and an evening meal which were delicious. I would have scored 5 stars but all evening meals were with chips – nothing with boiled potatoes or mash. The pub has superbly well kept local cask ales, along with very nice wine and Prosecco by the glass. The garden with two decked areas out the back are wonderful - nice seating and beautifully tended garden – shame it wasn’t warm enough to enjoy!

Excellent stay with our dog Ronnie. When we arrived the pub was busy but the staff were great and took us straight to our room. The room was clean and tidy. Facilities to make tea and coffee with biscuits and sweets. There was an Alexa and a tv which had access to Netflix. We went for an evening meal in the pub with the dog and Emma was looking after us. She was great very chatty and made us feel welcome. It was Thursday and they have ‘burger Thursdays’ which myself and my partner had. It was very tasty. I wanted the homemade chips rather than skinny fries and they were more than happy to do. The bed was really comfortable and the road was quiet so slept really well. The breakfast which came with the booking was also amazing. All fresh produce and cooked to perfection. A full English with additional cereal, juice and toast with Jam. And Emma again was our server and was great with us and our dog. Excellent stay and highly recommend!

We like to support our local pubs and being a community pub, the Exelby Green Dragon was definitely on our list. We were somewhat disappointed by the limited menu, there were no main course 'specials' and the main menu doesn't stray much beyond burgers, fish & chips and pies. The pub does lack atmosphere on the dining side and whilst service was prompt, the food was uninspiring and the presentation basic. It was too prompt not to have been in the microwave! A little more comfort, smaller tables and more 'presence' by the landlord would make a big difference to this venue - and of course, a more imaginative menu with daily specials. We declined dessert (only 4 choices - and expensive).

What a friendly pub! First time visit on a Friday evening with my friend who was staying with me. I chose the pub based on other reviews and it didn’t disappoint. It was very busy with a lovely atmosphere in the bar area. The log burners were lit too and it was so cosy! I have to say though credit where credits due - the staff are all lovely. Everyone who served us was chatty and just really nice, very welcoming and attentive; we ordered drinks at the bar and they brought them to our table in the restaurant; the menu choice was good and when the food came it was well presented and was very tasty. We stayed much longer than we thought and will definitely be coming back! They are dog friendly too so next time I’m bringing them along. I didn’t see the beer garden as it was dark but that sounded great plus some kind of jazz event happening later in the year so I need to stick that in my diary!

The Sunday lunch as usual, was excellent and as a vegetarian you get used to not having such an appetising looking meal as the others but not here. The honey and apricot roast was delicious and had all the trimmings of a Sunday roast. I noticed a comment about the lack of choice of puddings, I would rather have quality over quantity any day. The lovely chef had been chatting with us earlier and recommended the brownie. What a great recommendation, it was the best brownie I have ever had, just sublime. We are all looking forward to returning soon, thank you.

When the chef sends out black mushy peas with the fish and chips, it tends to put a dampener on an otherwise reasonable meal. Garden peas were brought out as a replacement but they’re just not the same. Prices are quite high here, the service was ok but the young waitresses would benefit from some customer service training. We weren’t offered any compensation for the disappointing peas even though we all had 3 courses and drinks. Would we visit again or recommend? Unfortunately not.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the Exelby Green Dragon Inn in Exelby near Bedale on 17th of March 2023. It was meant to be just a routine b&b overnight stop on the way home, but it turned into one of the most pleasurable memories of of holiday. We discovered the Inn was now owned by the local community, after nearly going out of existence a few years ago. On arrival, we were greeted by Tom Baker the inns proprietor, who leases the Inn and runs it on behalf of the community owners. Within minutes, we were made to feel welcome by Tom and local customers who were having a drink at the bar, there was a real feeling of local pride and community spirit that made me remember that this was how local village inns and pubs used to be be many years ago. After a couple of hours rest in our comfortable, spotlessly clean room, we came downstairs to eat in the restaurant to find the Inn full of happy locals and people from nearby villages enjoying the excellent food an drink. The old adage of USE IT OR LOSE IT came to mind, you need local people using a pub and having it as a place to come together and not just relying on passing holiday or second home visitors for a few weeks of the year. The Exelby Green Gragon Inn was balm to the soul. Go and stay at the Exelby Green Gragon , not only as a great place to eat, drink, and stay for a few nights, but to experience how a local pub or inn can become the very soul and spirit of the of the local area. To Tom and the team at the Exelby Green Dragon plus the locals we met there, THANK YOU. Barry and Rosemary Howells.

We had Sunday lunch today 1 chicken, 1 Lamb 1 beef. All 3 meals were absolutely delicious 😋 I had beef that melted in your mouth. Real! Gravy and yorkies too. The staff were very friendly and service great. Thank you. Will be back very soon.

An amazing cafe! Very friendly staff and great coffee. Can't thank the wonderful John at the bike hire enough, spent a perfect day in the local hills on some of John's very well maintained emtbs. Smashing fun! Will be back very soon.

Lovely cosy cafe. Arrived unannounced, with a large group of people with additional needs but were made very welcome and seated very quickly. The staff were very kind, patient and helpful. A good choice of lunchtime meals and snacks which everyone enjoyed. Would visit again when in the area.

We called in at the end of a fab walk. The welcome was lovely and the decor was even nicer. Robyn clearly takes real pride. Unfortunately it was raining, so we found ourselves stranded and forced to stay for 4 very enjoyable pints. We're told that food will be available from the end of July. If you're passing then pop in and support this great pub.
