Overnight stay in this lovely community owned pub. Great to dine somewhere quiet.

Fabulous food, wonderful atmosphere with friendly, helpful staff. Popped in today for a perfectly pulled pint by Alfie and a pot of the most delicious warm pork scratchings. Absolutley delicious!!!

Absolutely brilliant community pub although run commercially by a young couple. Fabulous gardens and excellent staff and food with lots of events.

Been here many times for Sunday lunch but after our experience today will not be returning. 3 of our drinks were wrong and when roast dinners arrived the portin sizes were very small especially for a man.Also the quality of food is not what it used to be This place has gone downhill which is such a shame. .

Whilst travelling down the A1 we needed a place to eat without making too much of a detour. Pub was easy to find with good parking. Nicely decorated with a clean and homely feel. Food was excellent we had fish and chips and came out quickly. Good local beer selection 👍

My wife and I were at the Green Dragon to celebrate a friends 60th birthday. Food was fantastic my wife and I had the steak it was cooked perfectly. The staff were lovely and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Would recommend and definitely be calling again. 5 out of 5

The carnivores said the burgers were very tasty. All the food was fabulous.- we had main courses and dessert. The Malbec was very delicious! And the Black Sheep not half bad. Our waitress Emma was brilliant - great service delivered with a great sense of humor and bubbly personality! Thank you for a fabulous evening

We have visited here quite a few times to stay over. Each time we have received a warm welcome from Tom and the staff, and the Pub itself is such a great country pub to relax, kick back and enjoy the atmosphere, food and various ales etc. The 3 rooms are very clean and have everything you need for your stay. Its been a blistering weekend, so we enjoyed the beer garden, and the shelter of the Gazebo for the shade when it got too hot. The staff are great, really friendly and attentive, and the food is hot, tasty and plentiful. they do what they do and do it well. see you again soon.

Possibly the best beer garden in North Yorkshire. It’s always a delight to stop off at the green dragon and soak up some of the ambiance. A worthy inclusion into the good beer guide; interesting good food is served too.

I had the Steak and Ale Pie, my wife had Fish and Chips, Mushy batter, overcooked chips on both dishes and over-seasoned (salty), very disappointing.

Only wanted tea out as a treat. Not an over cluttered menu, pub standards really which was fine. Greeted well and quickly. Food was good, decent portions, not overpriced, and friendly helpful service.

Stayed here a few times now and really love the rooms and the food. Staff are really nice and welcoming. Love the breakfast in a morning. Highly recommend

Had to wait for the main, but they served us the onion rings and chips (with no plates) while we waited, bit disappointing as they were cold by the time the meal arrived

Superb pub , uniformly friendly, helpful staff, comfortable and clean but unfussy, lovely food, very good beer, relaxing bedrooms. The Green Dragon has an excellent landlord and deserves its reputation for serving its community while also offering a really enjoyable and relaxing overnight stay for travellers. The welcome is genuine and acclaim well earned.

Spent a very enjoyable pleasant few days at the Green Dragon. Cannot fault the Freindly service, atmosphere, cleanliness, and the Food. The staff are very welcoming and cant do enough to make your stay here as perfect as possible. Well done to you all - we will definitely be making a return visit..

Lovely clean modern pub bedroom spot on

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the Exelby Green Dragon Inn in Exelby near Bedale on 17th of March 2023. It was meant to be just a routine b&b overnight stop on the way home, but it turned into one of the most pleasurable memories of of holiday. We discovered the Inn was now owned by the local community, after nearly going out of existence a few years ago. On arrival, we were greeted by Tom Baker the inns proprietor, who leases the Inn and runs it on behalf of the community owners. Within minutes, we were made to feel welcome by Tom and local customers who were having a drink at the bar, there was a real feeling of local pride and community spirit that made me remember that this was how local village inns and pubs used to be be many years ago. After a couple of hours rest in our comfortable, spotlessly clean room, we came downstairs to eat in the restaurant to find the Inn full of happy locals and people from nearby villages enjoying the excellent food an drink. The old adage of USE IT OR LOSE IT came to mind, you need local people using a pub and having it as a place to come together and not just relying on passing holiday or second home visitors for a few weeks of the year. The Exelby Green Gragon Inn was balm to the soul. Go and stay at the Exelby Green Gragon , not only as a great place to eat, drink, and stay for a few nights, but to experience how a local pub or inn can become the very soul and spirit of the of the local area. Great food, friendly staff and cozy atmosphere.

Good place to stop of your on the local trail, good selection of good food, and drinks at a reasonable price.

We stayed recently for a night, beautiful clean room and friendly staff. We had dinner and breakfast both meals were excellent! Worth booking for dinner as it seemed very busy but i am not surprised. If we happened to be in the area again we would certainly stop again. Thanks for a great stay!

Me and my partner Stayed overnight and had a lovely time! Staff very friendly and helpful. Food was delicious! I had the fish and chips, the fish was so thick and glistening, with a nice batter on, not too thick! My partner had the peri peri hanging chicken which he thoroughly enjoyed! Our room was perfect! We will definitely be coming to stay again!

The food was generally very good, however, when something was given to my wife on her plate that substituted for something she had ordered - that's when we were disappointed and it ruined our EGD experience. Discounting our bill for a glass of wine was considerate but, please don't substitute items unless you discuss it with the customer. 🙁

We arrived late but the food was still been cooked. The staff was more than helpful. Theres a selection of ales. Nice food, the place was a little quiet but it was 230 ish. But overall nice food and ale

Really nice little pub. Everyone was super friendly and the beer was excellent as was the log burner in the snug. Sadly we arrived too late for food but it looked good. We stayed in a very nice double room with ensuite. 10/10 for the breakfast with homemade black pudding. They even have a little shop at the pub with beer and food goods etc. A nice find.

Great August Bank Holiday beer festival. Good beer, food and music. A wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Brilliant beer festival with a great selection of real ales. Didn't have food but it looked and smelt amazing.

Had Sunday lunch with my Husband on 17 July 2022 , wonderful Dinner , one of the best we have had in North Yorkshire . Lovely friendly staff . Will definitely be coming back .

Booked for Sunday lunch which was good but average. Kids portions are ridiculously small for £7 and don’t come with a drink or desert like most childrens menus. £17 for one course beef!!its £19 for 2 courses which is fair enough but £17 for one is extortion. £3.70 for a coke!! Wobbly tables and a pretty boring atmosphere in the restaurant. I understand prices have rocketed for everyone but you might not have so many empty tables if you didn’t over charge.

Beautiful pub situated in a quiet little village. Good selection of meals and a great selection of drinks including some nice ales. Great outdoor seating to enjoy the sun. Friendly welcoming staff and service, well worth the drive out.

A delightful place to linger, with smart decor yet retaining the feel of a traditional village pub. Friendly and informal atmosphere. I understand - please don't sue me if I'm wrong! - that is is a co-operative, owned by the people of the village. If so they should be congratulated on the job they have done with it. Well done them!

Booked for nine of us. Table all ready on arrival. Great service and excellent food if a little expensive. Landlord proud of his cask ales ,(tried a couple) but no keg bitter for us old ones. Would definitely recommend and worth the five minute drive from the A1M.

We really enjoyed our stay great staff .lovely breakfast and all other food was nice apart from the chicken burger it was just a cheap frozen breaded burger .but all in all we enjoyed our stay .

This is a pub with welcoming, thoughtful and professional staff. It is also a place that welcomes dogs (which not every pub in the area does). The reason for 4 rather than 5 stars is that my dinner, while good, wasn't outstanding. The chef did ask what they could have done to have made it better which I couldn't answer at the time, but thinking back I wonder if the fat wasn't hot enough or it wasn't left to drain for long enough. No matter because my partner's meal was very good and the rhubarb based dessert was perfect. He would rate The Green Dragon 5 stars as would our dog who was fussed and spoilt. We would definitely come back to this pub and I really recommend it for all the reasons given above.

We arrived a bit early but we're immediately taken to out table. Good choice of food, which was delicious. Service too was very good with the obliging staff providing the exact amount of attention needed. Bedroom was modern and spotless, again everything we needed. Breakfast was also spot on on. Everything cooked to perfection. I couldn't fault the experience, and can highly recommend the Green Dragon. If ever I am in the area again I will go out of my way to visit. A warm welcome for our sat night stay, great helpful staff who will attend to your every need. The festive platter looked good and was very good quality. Service very slow, waited an hour for food to be served. Staff very nice. Unfortunately food not that great. Would not return.

Went to have a drink to look at the menu for the evening to be told very curtly not to touch the menus. We had a drink and went to have a meal that night with our 17year old granddaughter. The staff clearly do not know the law concerning licences premises and drinking with 17 year old. Our granddaughter was refused an alcoholic drink with her meal because it was not a restaurant. We will not be going there again.

Hopefully this was our first visit of many having just moved to the area. Food was amazing, friendly staff and the outside seating was perfect. We would highly recommend visiting here.

Visited for the Beer Festival, lovely pub, amazing staff. Will definitely be revisited

Attended during their beer festival. Vast array of tasty beers on offer. Street food snack boxes were very yummy. Live guitarist/singer was great entertainment. Only negative was the unwillingness to give a refund on the token card. £16 gets you a token card, sheet of A5 with boxes that are ticked off for £1, 50p, 20p etc. No other option to buy beer from the bar outside as payments are not taken any other way. We had a pint, we ate, we had another pint, and this left £2.60 on the token card. We politely requested a refund and was told "we don't do refunds" There are no Ts and Cs on the card, and no explanation from staff upon purchasing a token card that this is the case. Bars and restaurants have been hit hard with the recent pandemic so I fully understand they're doing all they can to build business but this was downright theft. Shocked by this, I asked to speak with the proprietor, and was then begrudgingly given a £2.40 refund with no thank you, sorry or anything else. Being too embarrassed to ask for the missing 20 pence, we left feeling a little disheartened. Would have gladly left a 5 star review had it not been for this.

Spent a great couple of days at this fantastic community run pub. Excellent food, friendly staff and magnificent ales. Comfortable rooms well worth a visit

Lovely village pub with amazing food. Lovely bear garden too. Excellent value for money

The pub itself is very nice. However the service and food completely lets it down. We pre-booked all our food for Sunday Lunch as we were a large table and it still took over an hour from being seated to being served the food. The food all came out at different times as did the veg to share. The food was bland and over cooked. The beef states served pink on the menu and came overcooked and tough as old boots. Also over charged for some meals which we only realized after we checked the bill properly after leaving. All in all out of a table of 20 people no one finished their food and everyone felt the same. Real shame as the pub is nice and in a nice location.

Expensive for portion size,raw vegetables,asked for different ones and got more raw ones,wasn't asked if we would like a dessert or coffee, won't be going again.

Called in without a reservation but not a problem. Staff very polite and courteous. Very quick service and the food and drinks were excellent and reasonably priced. Highlight was the delicious home made chips! Would definitely recommend and will be calling again when the opportunity presents. Many thanks EGD 😊

Excellent food, brilliant service.

I had a lovely meal here, others in my party didn't enjoy their meals, especially the risotto, which was virtually inedible. They didn't inform staff so can not comment on how this may have been rectified! The fish was beautiful and the chips were to die for, I would go back just for a bucket of chips!! 😆
