Well the weather was not very pleasant, but once inside we were made welcome. The service was impeccable and the quality of the food was exceptional and cooked perfectly. Will definitely be making a return visit (or more).

Just visited today and we were blown away by the quality of the food. My husband had the scallops as a main and I had the halloumi burger. Both cooked to perfection. We were quite full but we each had a desert. Again, top quality and delicious. We found a beer to suit us both which is unusual. All the diners around us were raving about their food. Will definitely be back very soon!

Despite living locally I hadn't been here for an age so when a friend suggested we go for lunch I wasn't sure how it would've changed and what to expect. It was a lovely sunny day so the views were an added bonus whilst we decided on our lunch ... A lovely ciabatta filled with haddock goujons and tartare sauce and homemade chips - very tasty. Excellent service from friendly staff

We had friends visiting so decided to take everyone to the wheal tor as the setting is wonderful and the kids can run around. We sat outside as it was a wonderful evening. The food is average, I had fish n chips, but it came with garden peas and not mushy. A few had the burger which was huge, but rather greasy. Hubby had the steak which was cooked wonderfully, nice and rear.

We have just had a really fabulous Sunday roast here. The food was outstanding and would highly recommend. Both the gammon and the vegetarian roast options were really delicious and the children enjoyed their kids meals. The desserts were definitely also worth having you could tell they were homemade. After having little success at other local pubs, I attended the Whjeal Tor to find a most welcomming atmosphere and very extensive menu. The real ale was well served and delicious local tipple. The ffod was prompt and fresh, delicious and reasonably priced. It was a quite night, being a Monday, but still a few locals and many people in for dinner. Would definitely return.

Had an Easter Sunday roast today. They looked after the three of us well with attentive and friendly staff. The roast beef and pork was delicious, served with yorkshires, stuffing, cauliflower cheese, broccoli, carrots, parsnips and cabbage. Gorgeous roasted potatoes too. It was so tasty, as were our chocolate brownie and ice cream deserts. The pub has a fantastic position on the Caradon Hill overlooking the valley and moors. We’ve been quite a few times in the past and will be back again.

We couldn’t fault the place. The staff were friendly and welcoming and efficient. The restaurant was clean and nicely fitted out. We had 3 starters between 4 of us (good portions) followed by roast pork with crackling, yorkie, gravy and 5 vegetables! Delicious. Followed by home made desserts. All delicious. The ambiance was pleasant too and it was busy. A delightful place and one we will visit again (we live locally so we could well visit often). Keep up the good work

After walking up an appetite at the Hurlers, we were looking for a cream tea. The farm shop was mobbed and we had noticed the sign for Wheal Tor. We thought we would take a chance. We asked if they did cream teas but no joy, they are only available if booked in advance as part of an afternoon tea. We then asked if lunch was possible and we decided to give that a go. Wow, so glad we decided to stay. Three burgers cooked to perfection with sweet potato fries, cole slaw and onion rings included. One excellent fish finger sandwich and four very full, very happy customers. What a great hidden gem to have locally. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was unhurried and relaxed. We were there towards the end of the lunch service but never felt pushed to finish and we were asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu, but alas no one had space for anything more. The outside tables were nicely spaced apart and plenty of room for the dogs to relax without being cramped. Will definitely return.

I have driven past Wheal Tor many times but have never been in until today. We had a table booked for 7 people for a family lunch and it did not disappoint. First impressions was that the restaurant was clean and airy and the staff all very friendly. We had all ordered different things so expected a wait for all the food to arrive and we all said how fresh it all was and how nicely presented too. I had the chicken, mozzarella and pesto bap and it filled me up a treat for a lunch. Others had sweet potato fries instead of potato and this was a really good option for those cutting down in carb intakes!! Will definitely look at going back again.

The restaurant had really good quality food, was very happy with my breakfast so much so that i had to steal my daughters sausages. The nights were restful in the peaceful surrounding at time the only noise was the pet Guineafowl arguing with some crows, which amused my children. Would i go there again, well while giving my keys back i booked another week in October.

My mother and I had a lovely meal here. Mum had the whitebait to start, and I had the salt & pepper squid, both of which were both very nice. Mum had the pepper chicken, and I had the steak. Both of which were delicious the steak was cooked perfectly to my preference. The mushrooms & pepper sauce were a nice compliment. And the onion rings were crunchy & delicious. With a huge portion of chips even I couldn't finish. I had a lovely glass of red wine. And the only bad part of the meal I ordered a pint of diet coke that was mostly flat. All in all we had a very nice meal... Sadly ruined only by the antics of the next table who I'm going to mention only because they stated they were going to leave a bad review. It started with them saying "I'm going to give the wrist record they've ever had unless they give us a discount". Then one of the "gentlemen" taking multiple business calls on speakerphone (at raised voice). The other "gentleman" then had a rather loud disagreement over the vegan burger he had ordered (because the waitress wanted to confirm if he wanted the veggie cheese or vegan), then he had a call with his mother (again loudly). Before complaining that the first gentlemen's mother hadn't been given enough curry. And finally the vegan gentlemen called the waitress over to complain that the curries hadn't been garnished with fresh coriander as per the menu...

Paid an impromptu visit to the Wheal Tor for a meal. I had beef stroganoff and my husband had what was supposedly sirloin steak. The steak was poor quality , very small, overcooked and very chewy. It was served with chips, a large mushroom, onion rings and peas which were in a small ramekin. All of this was on a slab of wood (essentially a thick chopping board) which was covered in oil and everything looked and tasted deep fried (there was a puddle of oil sitting in the middle of the mushroom). It was also a problem to eat the peas which eventually had to be tipped onto the 'board', and, unlike with a plate, they couldn't be contained and were rolling around all over the place. Not good ! The current 'trend' of using boards and slates to serve food is not ideal unless the chef has some idea of what to do., Which clearly didn't apply here. The beef stroganoff didn't taste very nice at all and the pieces of beef were flavourless, tough and chewy. It was served with soured cream and a handful of tortilla chips which were less than fresh. No-one asked if our meals were ok until about 15 minutes after the plates had been cleared, by which time we hadn't got the heart to complain because the young girl that served us was so polite and enthusiastic. Another problem was the pungent smell of old cooking oil which was evident before we even walked in. Not very welcoming ! The main sound coming from the kitchen was the constant 'ping' of a microwave, which, again doesn't instill confidence in the food preparation. Lastly, considering the poor quality of the food we had, we consider the prices charged to be a little excessive. We have eaten here before (under the same management) and the experience and food quality was great and totally different. Whatever has happened in-between times it's certainly not good.

It has fantastic views over much of east cornwall towards Plymouth and Looe, on a clear night you can see the edistonelighthouse. The food is "ok" and reasonably priced but there is a cold atmosphere about the place. I believe the rooms to rent are clean and comfortable. Ideally situated for local towns of Launceston and Liskeard and right on the edge of Bodmin Moor.

If you spent the majority of the morning dragging yourself up Wheal Tor (one of Devon's many trying hulks of hill) then there isn't a better kitchen to be found in Devon to satisfy your critical energy levels than at The Wheal Tor.Nestled slightly below the mast which struts out and bellows across the landscape is the calm and dainty Wheal Tor Hotel which are certainly not adjectives recycled for the food . It has around eight hobbit houses each with a bespoke round red door, green wooden panelling and of a size fit for a hobbit. The decking juts out in front of the pub and the views over towards Cornwall are jaw-dropping.We perched outside taking in the valley below and ordered from the menu with apprehensive expectations of what we would be given. The Pizza option is certainly homemade and must use a pan so deep it makes a cauldron look like a spatula. Needless to say it was full of substance and took no prisoners. It's not cheap but when you consider how far from the nearest Coop it is you have to given them some concession for having the tenacity to haul so much fresh salmon and cow up the Tor.The burgers and the pies all felt very thought out and cared for, and whilst it won't win any awards for dynamic presentation or subtlety of flavour the sense of mollification after dining is overwhelming. As I leant back, unfastened my belt and watched a few lambs traipse by I realised I was very far from the humdrum of Blighty on weekday and that my honest hosts were living the dream and pretty close to cooking it up too.

We booked a table at Wheal Tor for Valentines Day evening as they were offering an attractive set menu at a sensible price and it's close by. The food was really very good, well presented and well cooked. When you compare it to other more established venues, there are still a few rough edges (eg, soft drinks being poured from a 2litre bottle kept behind the bar). However service has improved from previous visits and the food never fails. Will definitely be returning to Wheal Tor and hope that it will continue to receive the local support it deserves.

I recently went for a meal with my family for my birthday at the Wheel Tor and I really wish we hadn't. On booking the table I was not told that there would be no starters on offer or that it would only be roast on offer. The food came out all piled on the plate...loads of it but I prefer quality over quanity! And some people don't like all that veg. I do usually but I prefer my veg to actually be cooked! It was raw, so raw in fact that my knife couldn't cut through it. The roast potatoes were nice but I only had two on my plate, my partner only had one!! The meat was very over cooked and chewy, definitely not local and if it was it was completely ruined. There also seemed to be a gravy shortage as we had to keep asking for more. If someone had actually bothered to come over and check that everything was okay with our meals halfway through which is what should happen in any basic resturant/pub then maybe the situation could have been rectified. But they were obviously all very busy dealing with the 3 other customers in the whole place!! We saw about 3 different members of staff and I think there was a lot communication difficulties. So, all our plates went back full of food. We were all still hungry so a few of us had pudding. The apple and blackberry crumble somehow managed to loose it's blackberries between the kitchen and our table so that was sent back but they still tried to charge us for it. My pudding was alright but nothing special and to be honest with you my birthday meal had already been ruined. When it came to paying the bill nothing had been done to try and rectify the situation so unfortunately my family and I will not be returning. I now understand why this place was absolutely empty. I'm pretty sure most people know how to cook veg...it's really not hard.

First impression of the place was great, we got some drinks and they made up a table for our party, any other restaurant that I have been to has had this ready before you arrived (we had booked in advance).I asked about the £10 lunch and pudding deal, and was told that this was on and the other deal was that the kids under five ate free, Great as we have 4 year old twins in our party. We had dinner which most of it went back as the veg was hardly cooked and was very stalky (Broccoli and cauliflower). Some of the meat was very gristly, in particular the Gammon. At no point did a waiter ask if we were ok with our meal. They came once we had finished and cleared the dinner plates and we were shown a dessert menu. I asked if all puddings were on the deal and the answer was yes, so we ordered pudding. The waiter gave us some options and one was Apple and Blackberry crumble, my wife's favourite pudding. My wife and her father order this but when it came out it was just Apple crumble and they were disappointed, my father-in-law asked not to have it as it had no blackberries in it and no one had come to check if this was ok before serving the incorrect meal. When we got the bill they charged us for the kids meal and I queried this and they took it off my bill. They had also charged us full price for some of the puddings even though I was told that All puddings were on the deal. In fact, only 2 puddings were on the deal and they would not refund this. I paid the bill and was glad to be out of there. On a positive note, the beer was good.

We live fairly locally and have meant to visit for a while, having last visited many, many years ago. Since we last visited, there have been a lot of changes by the current owners, among these a new conservatory, a nice changearound of the bar layout, the building of intriguing hobbit houses and - in my opinion the best bit - a fab observation decking area, perfect for viewing the absolutely breathtaking views this establishment enjoys. We went for a family meal and had mains, puddings and a few drinks. We booked on the day and were welcomed warmly by a lovely lady when we arrived with a lit fire on a chilly November evening - a nice touch. Service was friendly and food was excellent! Great selection to choose from, it was all delicious and the portions were very generous. What I liked best about eating here were the little touches - the specials explained clearly, the menus printed on nice paper, the lovely slate and wooden plates the food was served on - things had clearly been carefully chosen and prepared and it worked very well. Everything was clean and well-presented.Just be aware that obviously as the pub enjoys such a fab location high up on the moors, the track to the pub is a little rustic - we managed it fine in a normal car (not 4x4) but definitely advise taking your time with it!We will certainly be returning :) much recommended! Thank you!

Very friendly Hotel/pub offering a superb roast lunch and pudding for £10. I think we had every kind of vegetable going along with homemade suet pudding and homemade sloe berry sauce for the turkey. Veggie option was 3 cheese tart with pear which was very tasty.Very friendly owners who made us all feel really welcome informing us of all that they have going on over next few months. I've read some of the comments about the decor and yes, it could do with up dating and a bit of TLC. However we went for the food and we would go back. May even stay in a Hobbit house! Was ok for a few nights. not very clean, my partner woke up in night with a childs toothbrush in his ear, there was hair in the shower, the bathroom floor was heated that was great, lovely small room, just needed to be clean. the tv remote control was hidden behind the television which we found on our last night. the bed was nice and comfy and there were sheep walking freely together with chickens etc. the pods were out the back and looked nice, dont think i would one to stay in one personally. we are a middle aged couple having a weekend break away. the food was expensive and the breakfast was very small. on arrival the manager tried to inform us our breakfast was not included in the price..(.£156 for 2 nights for 2 people), on checking the paperwork i printed off before leaving the breakfast was included and when we made the managers wife aware and showed her the paperwork she agreed it was included...so watch the manager is our advice. there is no milk for the cereals in the morning and we had to wait ages for a member of staff come into the dining room to ask for some milk then ages to receive the milk. the place was ok but would not rush back anytime soon.

I visited with a group of people, the restaurant having been notified of this in advance. The setting is wonderful and there is a pleasant terrace overlooking the view across towards Dartmoor. The food, when it came, was pretty much acceptable but they need to work on service, as meals came out of sequence or not as ordered. I must say that the staff that served us were young and politely tried their best to put right anything that was amiss. As it was early in the summer holidays, it could have been that they were still learning the ropes.

We stayed 1 night, last minute, in this misty manor and were very glad to get it.Max and Mark were lovely, welcoming hosts, and the pub and accommodation are being upgraded piece by piece to a good standard. The beer is a well kept selection of Cornwall's best, and service is good throughout. We enjoyed the atmosphere of a Friday night, and could not have asked for better mix of people with which to share a pint. The menu has a number of unusual dishes- slow cooked meats etc, which sound amazing but, I went for the rainbow trout 'special'- nicely grilled and still succulent, but with oven chips and tartare sauce, it wasn't shown off to its best. The one veggie option was puff pastry with three cheeses on top, again with oven chips. It was welcomed, as we were hungry, but fell a bit short.Breakfast was local sourced or home made for the best part- the bacon was lovely, but, again, the veggie option could have been so much better- instead of sausage and bacon, there were double mushrooms, and scrambled egg ( alongside fried egg).I wouldn't choose this venue for its food, but I can heartily recommend it for its location, welcome, beer, and atmosphere without a doubt. BnB £80 for two.

Situated on the Moor the views wereamazing. We are at the hotel on two of the three nights we stayed and it was fantastic. Great food, served by wonderful staff. The hotel itself is a little tired. Carpets could do with replacing and a lick of paint here and there but overall it does not detract. Highly recommended

Having previously had a good evening here we booked again for a family meal to celebrate my wife's birthday. Once again Wheal Tor didn't disappoint. The food is excellent, and there is a good atmosphere in the bar and restaurant. A group of musicians were performing on the evening we went which was a good addition later in the evening and it would be nice to see this as a regular fixture. The only negative is that service is a bit lethargic and you do wait overly long for each course but it is worth the wait for the quality of food. This is a relatively small restaurant and booking is advisable particularly as Wheal Tor becomes more and more popular. Overall this hidden gem tucked away on Caradon Hill is becoming one of our favourite venues for a meal or drink locally and I would thoroughly recommend. An improvement in service would give it a 5 star rating.

We were also give an 'on the deck' specials menu. Which was a 'something with chips in a basket' type thing. My mum chose an 'on the deck' special, scampi and chips, which she enjoyed and for a fiver you can't really go wrong. I chose scallops (which was starter) and pita and humous. The scallops were the best I've had out In a while! To finish I ordered a cream tea and my mum just a pot of tea. Lovely warm scone, with delicious jam and carvable cream. Arrived to be welcomed by tame sheep and hens, there are hobbit houses set among the pine trees for the more adventurous. we had opted for a hotel room on arrival we were asked if we would prefer a twin or double opted for the double which had spectacular views over Bodmin Moor. The room was large with an adjoining bathroom which was also large. The room was clean as was the bathroom. An eclectic mix of furnishing not sure what the style was but it did not detract from the overall charm of the hotel. The owners were friendly and most helpful. Dinner was very nice. The bar person was not very well trained and struggled with our choice of wine but again it added to the charm of the hotel and we would stay again if heading for Cornwall. My only criticism was the breakfast sausage which was inedible but again we made no complaint as breakfast was served by one of the owners who asked where we were heading and offered advice on which route to take could not have been more helpful. Children would love this hotel with close contact to tame sheep and chickens also the hobbit houses.

We have been tempted by the carvery sign for ages, and eventually decided to drive up the 'eastern european' style road, filled with craters so big we had to carefully position the car as not to lodge it on the rocks! The hotel/restaurant is situated overlooking the moor which is quite pleasant, with tame lambs and chickens roaming around outside... Lovely for the kids! When we arrived at about 12:30, there was no one in the restaurant... Which worried us! Why? The place looked really inviting, with candles lit on every table and piano music playing. The ambance was lovely, until the manager decided that thumping drum and bass was more suitable! That put me off straight away!We had two cokes, which were poured directly out of a warm bottle - no ice or lemon! These were also £1.50!! When we were ready to get our carvery, the manager explained that the lamb and pork were their own. Great!! I decided to try it! We were asked to pick up our own plates from the warmer, which were honestly the smallest carvery plates I have ever seen! They were not much bigger than a side plate! After the manager carved the meat for us, we then had the choice of a selection of obviously frozen veg! When you go out for a meal, you want to have something which has had a bit of effort put into it, and serving frozen carrot sticks and cubes of swede alongside Aunt Bessy's roast potatoes, is just not what you expect from eating a restaurant! It was very disappointing! This is something we might use at home, mid week! Also, the manager stood and watched us help ourselves to the vegetables, which was unnerving and made us feel like he was watching that we didn't tke too much! The meat was rubbery and full of fat...it looked like it was poached rather than roasted. The pork crackling was burnt and left a bitter, acrid taste in my mouth and the lamb was just all fat. The plates were so small that even an average sized meal was spilling out over the plate. I had gravy pouring into the table! There was also not salt and pepper on the table either, which I thought was a bit odd. I'm afraid this was not good value for £8.50. For a pound more, the Lanhydrock golf club do an absolutely superb home cooked carvery using all local produce and deliciously roasted meat, with much bigger plates and a larger variety of fresh (not frozen) veg. We were disappointed as the staff were friendly and the setting was lovely. This could really be superb, a place where local people would talk about... In a positive way, not negative one!

visited Wheal Tor carvery today as we were unable to get into our favourite restaurant (kings head Altarnun). The restaurant and bar was very quiet when we arrived at 1pm and we were told to pick any table we choose. The carvey was served on a basis of meat carved for you and help yourself to veg. There was a fair choice of veg and their devon pudding was a pleasant change from Yorkshire, however it was clear that the potatoes and veg came from the freezer. The plates were not generous in size and although the plates were warm the meal was cold before we were able to finish it. ordered 2 cokes and these were poured from a warm pepsi bottle into very small glasses (£1.50 each) and we had to ask for ice at the table to make it drinkable. The meal came to £31.00 for three meals a cider and 2 cokes and I don't think this represented value for money.....sorry wont be going again and wont recommend it to guests of my self catering cottage.

Hi My partner took me to the Wheal Tor restaurant for a Valentine meal. We had a choice of menu, We both decided to have the Basil & Tomato soup as a starter, this was very tasty but not enough of it. Our main course was Braised rib eye steak cooked in stout with chips and tomato and mushroom on a skewer, the chips and skewer were very nice but the steak was very dry and I had difficulty swallowing it. My partner actually changed his with me, this piece was a bit better but still quite dry. When the sweet arrived I had reconstructed blackcurrant pavalova this was ok but my partner had creme brulee with chocolate coated strawberries, well the creme brulee arrived so I asked the waiter if the strawberries had been removed from the menu, he looked at me puzzled so I showed him the menu, he then brought out one strawberry covered in chocolate. The atmosphere in the place was nil and the person behind the bar was not very sociable, nor were the other members of staff. it was a very disappointing evening for us. Did any body else that went there find this.. We went there 2 years ago to the same place and had a much better meal. I think there has been a change of owners though.

We booked in on a rather drizzly late August Friday afternoon. The road could've had some attention as there were way to many potholes for my liking. Parked up and we not sure where to book in - no signage to help. We found a man who was pleasant enough and he got our key. The hobbit house was warm and cosy and the 4 of us (older kids and myself and husband) had room in the pod to be comfy. We went to explore to find our first disappointing thing - the barbecue. Advertised on the website "fresh free range sausages and bacon and eggs from our girls" the griddle had obviously not been cleaned for some time and the decaying meat on it was green and greasy. We were not going to cook anything on that. I still asked the man (don't know his name as he didn't tell us) if we could but some bacon and sausages to take home and he said they didn't have any!! We ate in the "restaurant" which was ok, apart from the disorganisation - several bits of paper with different menus. The view was beautiful apart from a massive marquee blocking most of the view!! My husband has "surf n turf" which amused us as they forgot the surf part and when we asked for it, we were given a bowl of Prawn cocktail - not pan dried prawns which we re what we expected. The pod was nice n cosy and we all slept well. In the morning at 7.30 we each went to have a shower and it was freezing! Overall, it was ok. Staff could have cared more and we were disappointed that the jacuzzi was closed as we had all brought swimming stuff

This restaurant was situated in a most beautiful location. We pre-booked lunch and were looking forward to eating in this idyllic spot. However we were terribly disappointed. The staff were most unwelcoming and almost rude - we felt that we were putting them out and disturbing them! We were offered no help at all and had to ask for our food with no menu, prices etc on hand. We had to serve ourselves to cold, unappetizing vegetables (from a hot plate near the open door) to go with the tasteless meat which was served to us on cold plates. By the time we had managed to settle ourselves down to our table the meal was completely cold, we had no condiments, and at no time during the meal did anyone ask ask if we required anything else or if everything was alright. We left as soon as we could, explaining that we did not enjoy our meal at all and that we would not be returning to this location, nor recommending it to others. The staff desperately need training in how to treat and welcome customers.

While on holiday we search the internet for menus to ensure the diverse tastes of our family can be sated. Unfortunately after booking we found the approach road to the restaurant/hotel to be virtually only suitable for cars built for off road driving. The menu proffered by the landlord was nothing like the extensive menu shown online. That given was very basic and although inexpensive it did not enliven the gastric juices. However the food ordered was of a decent size and edible. The thing that stopped us asking why the menus were not as shown online was the view as IT IS STUNNING. We were happy to accept the road and menu issues just to be able to take in the scenery from a establishment that is claimed to be the highest in the area.So if you do visit Wheal For the food is in our view secondary. Our rating of 2 stars is for the lack of choice via the menus but the view from inside while eating is a 10. They also have a platform for outside dining that enhances the spectacular scene.

Amazing views and fabulous location spoilt by the smell of stale beer on carpets and old chip fat lingering on the air as you walk in. This property needs to be closed and extensive work carried out and then re-opened with a fresh start. The 'staff' need to go on a course to understand the Hospitality trade, just an understanding of the word hospitality would help them perhaps. Sadly, the hotel is not clean, not fresh, potentially dangerous site with loose wires draped across the driveway, staff are not interested in guests and are unable to 'multi-task' in even the simplest of tasks. Such a fabulous location, such wonderful views and it all looks so promising. One thing is that if you are not fond of chickens, beware, they are allowed to roam free and you need to miss the mess.

When the food did arrive, it was of poor quality and not as described, nor as one would have expected from the Menu description. To put it in plain English (or Cornish if you're a local party like us) - if you can convince your family that you should try it over other outlets, and if you can deal with your family's complaints about their hunger and the long wait, and if you can justify the expenditure of your hard earned cash on low quality provisions, and finally; after all that, if you can then NOT think about any of the other local places you could have eaten like one of the other Restaurants, Pubs or Takeaways nearby, then carry on, eat at the Wheal Tor - YOU'LL LOVE IT!!!

We visited Wheal Tor recently - but only for lunch, since our accommodation was already pre-booked. Certainly where food, atmosphere and location is concerned, this was a memorable experience and we were not disappointed. However, I was left feeling a bit confused regarding who, specifically, the new owners - Mark and Max - are trying to attract - not that it maters because they're busy and they have plans for refurbishment but there doesn't seem to be a specific target market. Anyone and everyone seems to be the order of the day. Whilst it's lovely that they're such welcome and hospitable hosts, I think that they may do themselves a disservice by trying to please 'all of the people all of the time' which could leave guests feeling disappointed if they arrive with particular expectations based on previous visits and find something different due to the diversity of people/groups catered for. My first impression was that Wheal Tor was a bit shabby but Mark and Max explained some of their future plans for upgrading the accommodation and the difficulty attending to this due to the constant stream of bookings. It's clear from the detail afforded to the toilets that the vision/ideas are there. The finishing touches are lovely where they currently exist, but it all seems a bit disjointed when this is contrasted with the general shabbiness of the main public areas. Perhaps they should just 'bite the bullet' and close for a week or two to attend to this. For example, the food, thankfully, was excellent, but our expectations had been lower due to the poorly laminated menus presented. The overall atmosphere was relaxing and homely but a bit grubby - straw on the floor and ash around the log-burning stove. Views are spectacular. A nice touch/idea, was the pair of binoculars on the windowsill beside the dining table. On the downside - they weren't very clear. I would certainly suggest bringing your own as the birds and wildlife are plentiful and varied. The outdoor space is a huge plus - and ideal for families with children. Hens and guinea fowl run loose and Wheal Tor's own piggery adds credence to the quality of food on offer. The new owners have a lot to do - but they're making a go of it and good luck to them. Food is fab and overall potential is massive once refurbished.
