One of the best places to eat in Shropshire, food always excellent, surrounding countryside just adds to the ambience of this beautiful place. I've been going there for twenty years and it's always excellent, the only place I would recommend 👌

Upon arrival to the Wharf Tavern camping site we were greeted by smiling front of house . We set up caravan and went over to the pub for dinner . Food was lovely and we were greeted again with pleasant welcoming atmosphere and real log burning fire. A front of house man called Fred suggested I try the T-bone steak which was to die for . This pub is a really lovely relaxing place and everyone genuinely pleased to see us and thankful for the business I brought to them . Finally we had Sunday lunch with Three meat choice . I had Turkey and trimmings . It was so tasty and home cooked you could tell . I thoroughly enjoyed this weekend and therefore recommend 100%

What a lovely pub? I'm usually quite fussy when it comes to Pubs & Restaurants. I can safely say that the Wharf Tavern pleased me. 😀 The food was lovely and filling. The staff were all friendly and pleasant. The Pub was clean and tidy. Sure it's a tad pricey, but you definitely get your money's worth. 😀 We'll definitely consider visiting again sometime in the future! 😀

Ladies that lunch arrived at the Wharf Tavern in full sunshine. Beautifully kept grounds & peaceful surroundings. Everyone chose a different main - Lasagne, Prawn Sandwich & Salmon. All delicious & prompt service by the waitresses. Will definitely be back with hubby as noticed his fav ale Butty Bach is on draft. Minus one point because the toilets are quite small & did not prove easy to manoeuvre around the facilities.

Four of us recently had Sunday lunch. None of us were disappointed…… There’s quite a varied menu for lunch. We all chose one of the roasts. Between us we had lamb and beef. They come with roasted and boiled potatoes and Yorkshire puddings on the plate and a dish of vegetables to share. We ordered cauliflower cheese as an extra. We left nothing; everything was cooked to order and was delicious. There was just the right amount for four hungry people. We shouldn’t have but we couldn’t say no to a pudding. The bread and butter pudding was delicious. If you want an honest, traditional no fuss Sunday lunch with fresh, well cooked delicious food The Wharf is the place for you. With the great service and delicious meals you’ll do well to find somewhere better.

And they were excellent, I had roast beef, my Wife roast turkey. Supplied with fresh vegetables. The meals were delicious! For sweet we both had the honeycomb and chocolate cheesecake with ice cream. That too was equally delicious! Highly recommended!! One small niggle tho' very poor wifi! ( tho' rather nice to not keep looking at our mobiles and savour our food! )

SUNDAY LUNCH for a meat eater and a vegetarian. As a veggie, I wanted the full roast - roasties, vegetables, yorkshire pud but wanted to substitute the Beef for Cauliflower Cheese, which is a side order. I would have thought that was an easy thing to do, but no, it appeared not to be the case. “We can’t substitute”. Why is it difficult to leave the meat off the plate and add the cauliflower cheese instead. So I ended up ordering a roast beef meal, giving my husband my Beef and ordering a side of cauliflower cheese for £4.50. Quite unnecessary. The roast beef was good according to my husband, as was everything else it was served with. Just please cater for those of us who want a roast without the meat.

Over priced, poorly conceived and average at very best. Distinctly average welcome, less than average service and poor food - but expensive. And - the only restaurant we have ever been in that does not offer starters - at all. For the No starters - we will never return and would advise anyone else to give it a miss as very poor. Gammon - you have to pay 75p extra if you want an egg on it - really. Lazy cooks as everything seems to Come with cheap onion rings, cheap coleslaw and a dreadfully presented salad.

Had lunch today and the food was so bland and dire. Steak was overcooked (medium ordered, but came as nearly well done), and lacking flavour and seasoning, and to be served with the most rubbish chips and packet onion rings for a hefty 24 pounds, inc the most un-tasty side salad - it's not much effort nowadays to have homemade onion rings and twice cooked thick chips, but that hasn't come to this establishment yet. Salmon was also overcooked and came with five boulder potatoes and some very overcooked vegetables. Seems to be a favourite for old people whom like the setting, but the food and menu could have a lot of improvement

Honestly, it is the service that tainted our anniversary meal at the Wharf Tavern. The main woman (short brown hair, glasses) was one of the rudest people I've ever been served by, something must have been bothering her because absolutely everything seemed like an inconvenience to her. It was pretty busy, but she was acting as if it was the end of the world. She was even being rude to the other staff. My partner and I have both worked in very fast paced restaurants before so we know that it can be stressful, but this is never an excuse to rain on everyone's parade! The lad at the bar was absolutely lovely and his friendliness really made our experience better. Despite the poor service, the food is really lovely. I really enjoyed the burger, it is probably one of the best burgers I've had. Really good portion size with chips and salad. My partner ordered a medium-rare steak and it was definitely more on the well-done side, but no issue as he enjoyed his food too.Overall, I'm not sure if we would return to the Wharf Tavern. The food and location are great, but it's just a real shame that some of the service and attitude we received really let it down. It's not cheap either, so unless you want a dent in your pocket and an unhappy face waiting to see you, maybe find somewhere else.

We were in the area and referred to faithful Trip Advisor to find a restaurant! Impressed by the reviews we called and made a booking. As we drove down the country lane and over the humpback bridge we realised this pub would not get passing trade! There are no starters and when the main courses arrived we could see why! I had breaded plaice and my wife had an enormous home made burger. Both were served with fresh salad and homemade coleslaw! Fries were served in a big bowl to share! We followed with cheese and biscuits to share! Plenty of cheese but could have done with more crackers! By the time we left the pub was buzzing. I have been here many many times and never been disappointed. The place has a great atmosphere and friendly staff who rush effortlessly from table to table bringing fantastic food and drinks with a smile. I normally have the splendid scampi, home made and I can describe them as fluffy pillows of heaven. Meals are served with large portions of chips, vegetables or salad. The vegetables are particularly wonderful, normally with a delicious portion of cauliflower cheese. I can also recommend the Wharf burger, huge and tasty Puddings are to die for, a favourite is the strawberry meringue served with more cream or ice cream . My celiac partner is particularly impressed with the choice of gluten free offerings including more than one pudding, a real bonus for a celiac. Bakewell tart being a favourite My only wish is that the chips can be one day, more of a chunky size, maybe skins on? Not a fan of the skinny fries but alway happy to swap for a huge plate of potatoes dripping in butter.

We visited The Wharf on a very, pre booked, busy night. A little unsure of what to expect, as this was our first eat out since the release of the lockdown.I was immediately put at my ease on entering the pub.All the staff were wearing masks, there was a hand sanitising station for use on entrance. The bar was shielded with perspex, although we did not need to go to the bar as we were promptly shown to our table. Drinks and food orders was taken there. The food was fast, efficient and catered well for our vegetarian needs. I visited the loos and they were spotless. Social distancing signs, were everywhere. Tables were labelled with max amount of people allowed to occupy each table.I watched as staff cleaned tables down between dinners, and they cleaned every part of the table, chairs and condiments. The menu was cleaned before handed to us too. This has to be a flag ship example ( pardon the pun, it is canal side) of exactly how it should be done. I assumed that EHO visited public houses to ensure all measures displayed here, so efficiently, had been their direction. But no, this has all been done by the owners and team of staff . Full marks all round. Will 100% be back soon. Thank you for making our apprehensive visit a totally relaxed one.J & K Boaters .

We visited the Wharf Tavern on Wed 19th August. Sharon and the team we’re fantastic, fitted us in short notice as we moored up close by and service all night was great. Food was lovely, scampi was tasty, lasagne’s freshly cooked to mention just a couple of the dishes we had. Loads of tasty sides with fries, salad and coleslaw. Lovely setting and lively atmosphere together with the tasty food made it a perfect evening...thanks Sharon & team!!

We had a lovely lunch with friends here today. The portions were absolutely huge, however the food was tasty. I enjoyed a ploughman’s lunch followed by Bakewell tart, my husband had a roast beef dinner followed by ice cream. Good pub grub in a traditional pub environment and reasonably priced. We will definitely return during our next canal boat adventure!

Basic pub food and an understandably limited menu so soon after pubs reopened in the UK after lockdown. Decent PubGrub, however, and huge portions. Social distancing measures in place but they seemed to be doing a roaring trade throughout the day and into the night. You'd be well advised to book ahead.

A great find! We stopped here on our narrow boat for a lunch break. We were a party of 9 and during these covid times they had offered us a nice separate ‘room’ for us. Portions were huge! Service was good. Great place for ‘pub grub’ with a lovely garden and view of the canal.

Cannot fault this pub for food. We all had something different and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Extensive menu with something for everyone. We even had puddings and the warm Bakewell tart was well worth the calories. Reasonably priced with great food.

Arrived at 2.30pm after service had finished but the staff still made us feel very welcoming and taking our lunch order. Food served piping hot and plentiful. Superb service. Sat outside by the canal with mum in her wheelchair watching the world go by. Summing up.. Peaceful

We have missed the Wharf and so were delighted to go back for lunch when it reopened. I have to say we were not disappointed as the food was its normal high standard and every precaution had been taken to ensure everyone stays safe with hand sanitiser, tables well space and staff earing masks to serve the food. Well done and we shall return soon.

Thanks to Sharon, Paul and ALL staff for all your hard work in making sure everyone is safe when visiting The Wharf. Everyone is making sure all who visit are looked after (maintaining social distancing, track and trace, table service and thorough cleaning) not only in the pub, but the caravan park too. You are all stars.

It has been 5 years since we last visited The Wharf and we wondered after why it has taken us so long to do so. We arrived for lunch and were warmly welcomed being served by friendly staff. There were a good number of customers and a warm friendly atmosphere throughout. Our order arrived swiftly and we were presented with some great food and full plates. Sometimes when presented with a full plate of food the quality suffers BUT this was not the case here. We ordered scampi, steak & kidney pie, ham, egg and chips and a ploughmans. With the ploughmans they were also happy to swap one of the cheeses for another.Chips and veg that accompanied our meals arrived separately and were plentiful too.At the end of it we were too full for a dessert of which again there appeared plenty of choice. We had had a great family meal and I certainly recommend it for a visit. We will not be leaving it as long for our next visit.

Not been here before but thought we'd give it a go for a Tuesday lunch get together with a work colleague. Service at the bar was excellent as was the service at the table. Good choice of food and wht we had was nicely cooked and presented. Given that this was a Tuesday visit I was amazed at how many people were there - a sign of its popularity I guess.Would I go here again? A definite yes but just need to make sure I have a better satnav than the crappy one in my BMW given the remote location!

We go the the Wharf Tavern on a regular basis. The food is always excellent and the service is too. The staff are really lovely and can't do enough for you. The Sunday lunch is the best in Shropshire - it is so tasty - as good as you would do yourself at home! Even when they are really busy (which is all the time) you never have to wait long for your meals. Keep on doing what you do so well!

We stayed on the wharf's caravan site with our tourer for three nights. Excellent site, could do with a shower, but the toilet block is clean and very well kept and with hot water. The Wharf Tavern itself is excellent, lovely meals and excellent prices and executed to perfection. I rarely order fish at "pubs" as tends to be overcooked and or over held - However the chef at the Wharf Tavern clearly knows what he's doing - Faultless - And I am picky. On the whole the bar staff were okay, most were friendly, it was only on the Saturday night that we were asked to queue at the bar by a member of staff for a drink top up during our meal. All other times we were supplied top ups at the table whilst we ate. The Salmon, Steak and even the Burgers are incredible value for money and of a high standard - Very pleased and will return

We all like Sunday roast and we always remember our grandmothers huge Sunday lunch but l swear that the wharf tavern comes very very close. No skimping on anything you leave fuller than a butchers dog. The place is a bit hard to find but it’s packed so early booking essential. Right by Shropshire Union canal lovely day out.

11 of us visited for Sunday Lunch. It was extremely busy, but this did not effect the service or food in anyway. We pre-ordered our choice of meat in advance, which meant there was no long waits for menus, order taking etc. Food was served promptly after seating. Everything was fresh, delicious and great portion sizes. Our party chose mainly beef and lamb and all commented on how tender the meat was and were all very impressed. Great quantity of veggies (broccoli, carrots, sprouts) served. Beautiful cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire puds!!! Excellent choice of desserts. Again all served promptly and got great reviews from all our party. Would definitely recommend and re visit. Make sure to book in advance.

Another great meal at the wharf with our parents. Lovely service with staff helpful but not overly in your face. All 6 meals arrived together and all hot, well apart from the ploughman’s luckily. This really is a great place to visit for good quality reasonably priced food.

We booked for dinner as we knew the White Lion had reopened for food with a new chef. We were not disappointed the food was delicious, we had the rib eye steak, the sea bass special and the penne vodka. All were beautifully cooked and served. The service was great and the staff were friendly. We will definitely be eating here again.

The service was friendly and the food absolutely first-rate. Can recommend the Ploughman’s which is loaded with cheese, really top notch ham, and lovely crusty bread. Would have loved to stay for cake but we were all too full.

we always try to come here when we can get in and don’t fancy cooking one ourselves. the meat selection is always good and very generous, their roast potatoes are the best - lovely and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. it is a carvery so can help yourself. they unfortunately don’t have any mash but we just add extra roasties! their gravy is lovely and homemade with the meat juices in. the staff are lovely and attentive. our favourite place to go for sunday lunch!
