Westgate Social in Oxford

These security guards are out of control!!! They are ridiculously arrogant and incompetent, kicking us out the second we set foot in the establishment, especially when me and my buddy here are trying to enjoy my maltesers and have a nice sit down because our legs are exhausted, now we have resorted to sitting on a bench outside the lifts with a funky aroma surrounding us filling our poor nostrils to the point we can’t enjoy our chocolaty maltesers.

Security is rude they kick you out as soon as you are done eating I put the last chip in my mouth and they walked up and kicked us out. One of them also patted my belly and asked if I’ve been eating he is very rude.

foods good, but it’s really annoying when i’m trying to sit in the warmth and charge my phone as a student and a security guard kicks me out for not buying food in a SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT, especially when my best friend is sat next to me EATING FOOD FROM HERE but i’m still told we both need to buy food to be sat here when it is meant to be a social environment not just a food place

I just ate at the “Ji The Chicken Shop”, and the experience was not good at all. Waste of money too! I first ordered a “Volcanic Cheesy Chicken” which was absolutely not good at all! The cheese was supposed to be hot and melted but it was rock hard instead and completely cold inside! I asked to have it replaced and I received a fried chicken breast that was barely properly cooked, extremely dry and the taste was horrendous! I can’t recommend this place perhaps the food is disgraceful.

Good food options but some of the food stalls are quite slow with their service and a few of the personnel they do not speak English. Sometimes the security can be a bit rude and they also rush a few people to leave the area at the early hours.

Over priced two burgers cost £27 . But the other kiosks are fairly reasonable

I've never voted any food place a One Star. This place is the first. We tried food from all three of the places, the Benito, Ned's Noodle Bar and Tommi's Burger. All three food types were underwhelming. Tommi's Burger, probably the worst. £20 for the burger, fries and Drink with the burger being tiny and fries being average at most and a can of Fanta. And the cheese was an additional cost to the burger, which again would have been totally fine if the quality and size was decent🤦🏽‍♂️

Had a fantastic burrito at the Mexican stand. Highly recommended!

Nice venue but overpriced as the quality doesn't match its pricing

I was amazed to find a place that is open for the public to use for any reason they wish, as long as you do not bring outside food. now that last bit is fine in most cases, but the options here are so limited, half the stores are vacant. I would review each store separately but the run down is 1. noodles bad. small portion, large prices, bad food. 2. burrito mediocre portion depends on staff, so you never know what you're getting. which annoys me to no end. slightly overpriced. food is decent. 3. burger mediocre friendly staff, wild music choices. portion is decent prices are slightly over priced (more so than burrito) food is passable. it is annoying that they tried to do both a price hike and a portion shrink at the same time. but a month later portions returned. I suppose business took a hit. I have a gripe that knocks this down a star, although it doesn't affect me. security are always hassling youngsters (those between 14-18). many times they are just hanging out having their fries and suddenly they get approached by 2-5 security personnel trying to bounce them out. I don't see how their behaviour is any worse than the couple who made out in the middle of the social for 3 hours.

The Social aspect of this venue is completely mixed up as Security are stalking teenagers, challenging them and throwing them out even if they are sitting quietly. My daughter and her friend sat down to chat in the Food Court planning to order drinks in a few minutes. Security came over just as they sat down and asked if they were ordering food. They said "no" and before they could add that they were ordering drinks in a few minutes they were told to leave. Security stood by the table and stared at them while they got their things together and then escorted them out. My daughter said they do this all time to teenagers, especially boys. These are your future customers, they won't come back. Also a Food Court with a "Social" tag is not a restaurant. It implies a more relaxed, social atmosphere. The place is empty most of the time too! Are you just anti all teenagers, regardless of their custom and good behaviour?

Okay food but just overpriced. Burger, fries and drink for £19... I'll let you decide

Love this place, Tommys burger joint and Benitos Mexican are an absolute credit ..... epic food, epic service at great prices

Simulated street food. At least if it's raining you will keep dry.

Family had a quick food stop early evening. Service and food was good and plenty of seating available.

Great location, street food section has quite a few options to pick from. Also located in Westgate which is a great place to spend sometime as well.

Ordered a £9.50 “Japanese style popcorn chicken” meal from Charlie Chan’s Chicken Shack, it took about 20 minute for them to make it (bearing in mind the chicken was already cooked and in the counter where they keep it warm) when I sat down with my food, I realised the food was stone cold… the chicken looked really old and had a funny colour . I went up to the lady who was taking orders and complained politely that my food was very cold and so was my boyfriend’s- who ordered the same thing. As I didn’t like it at all, I naturally asked for a refund, she replied with that she can’t do refunds and needed to call her manager to authorise the refund… she then told me that the manager said she can only refund one of our meals, we obviously was not happy about this and we asked why can’t we both get a refund, she then got one of the chefs and he came out with a horrible attitude refused us a refund, he laughed at us and said there is no chance of us getting a refund, claimed he didn’t have our money to give back. he shouted abuse at us also insisted for my boyfriend to come back for a fight or something? Swearing and saying the food being cooked wrong and cold wasn’t his problem called security on us which lead to us being kicked out. It was very embarrassing. As this was happening, customers wanted to order food but chose to go somewhere else because of the Argo the chef was letting off. I am not going there again and I don’t think anyone should

I would rate it 0 stars if I could. The service was terrible, no customer service, unhygienic, the food from the Chinese place was disgusting and tasted like used bread crumbs and chicken looked raw. We waited 30 mins and the food wasn’t even warm. And on top of that paid a high price.

Food places are nice but it would be nice to not get kicked out if we don't order anything straight away. And now we also get kicked out for "Not ordering enough"

The food is not worth the price

This is not a social place for people and looking at the reviews, i wasn't the first to experience this disrespectful and rude security man and most likely wont be the last. This unbelievable behavior is not being sorted out as you can see by the other reviews on this website, which shows a lack of caring from the restaurant to its customers. So when arriving for a quick bite to eat with a few of my friends. We sat down to put our belongings at our table when 2 security officers approached us and rudely asked if we were actually going to order food. We then replied that we were about to go look at the menu to which one security guard told us that he would throw us out if we weren't going to be eating. They then walked over to the bar where they kept glancing over to make sure we weren't up to no good. I was extremely uncomfortable with this encounter and shall not be returning in case that I am stereotyped again. The management needs to sort out this outrageous and disgusting behavior.

Westgate Not very social. I am not a man to leave reviews, but I was so outstanded by the level of rudeness I have received here. After scrolling through reviews it seems like multiple people have had the same issue with this member of staff. Me and my friends had sat down at a table before all going our separate ways to buy food, less than a minute after arriving we got shouted at that we would have to leave as we had not bought food. We did not leave and instead all bought our food. This lady then returned to tell us to get out, she saw we all had food and let out a grunt before disappearing. 5 minutes later a security comes to escort us out. We explained the situation to him and he was as confused as us. Awful awful customer service.

Has an amazing range of food service was excellent and definitely recommend the burgers!

Shopping Centre in the City Centre. Underground parking, over 3 floors. "The Social" has a few food stalls, burgers, noodles, tacos and top floor open terrace has more fine dining Nandos and restaurants. Variety of shops on the ground and first floor. Cash machine near "The Social" entrance (below the escalators)

I came in for some food and was promptly shouted at and told to leave in a very agressive manner for sitting in an unmarked and not sign posted « kids area ». To add insult to injury one member of my group who was sharing food was told to leave because they did not purchase their own food. For a place called the « social » it was anything but that. I had to eat my meal in constant fear of being yelled at and removed for eating in the « wrong area » or for sharing food.

Just popped in for a couple of drinks when everything else was overcrowded - plenty of space, quality was fine, service was pleasant but a bit slow. Didn't have any food so cannot comment, but seemed to be a lot of choice.

It's not classy but it's a good place to meet people or get a quick meal.

You're not going to get gourmet food here, but it's fast, clean, convenient and in a big open space with plenty of seating so it's great for groups to congregate. There's a few food establishments here where you can get noodles, burgers, mac and cheese and burritos.

Soaicl is amazing food court area to eat and hangout with New poeple and enjoy the hospital

Good ambience but I did not like the food(Chinese), the chinese bbq source wasn't great

Veggi burger was okay but v. disappointing noodle bar. They got our orders wrong and gave the vegan the Thai Fish based sauce in error. Polite and apologetic but the second time round the vegetables were cold and uncooked. It all feels a bit corporate and Disney without much atmosphere. Not sure how places like this prove so popular when there are so many great independents around...

Light and airy. We visited in the evening so it was not busy. The food on offer was interesting a d allowed even the most pickiest amongst to choose. Each dish was fresh hot and came in an ample serving. The seating areas were clean and well monitored by staff.

I wish there were more options down there, it is a great place to eat just unfortunate that it is below the main level so a lot of people miss it

Nice place. It would be good if it had some pizza place too, easy for kids. But we liked it.

Lots of places are closed and the ones left are not really good - except the burritos. Noodles are really average and tasteless. There are better places to eat in Westgate!

The food was nice and it has a very modern feeling about it at the architecture is very modern. The food was very nice but a bit on the expensive side. Other than that it is a great place to go with your friends and it is located in the city centre do you can go exploring afterwards!

Poorly designed, expensive food court It’s like they just said, ‘here’s some empty space. We can make some money by jamming a food court in there. And let’s make it expensive fast food.’ It’s just like an empty dark corner space. I’ve eaten there a couple times. Expensive for what it was. I have decided not to eat there a couple different times because it was just so empty it makes you think something must be wrong. Like, ‘was there an outbreak of something here?’ Maybe they should promote it with discounts for local residents. Burger place looks like a bar but couldn’t figure out where to order or where they cook the burgers so I avoided.

If you like mac n cheese you must visit this food court!!

I LOVE The Social! Really good vendors, lots to choose from, heaps of different sitting areas... And free, secure, phone charging station. Add a Nutella vendor, and you have near perfection. Shame it so often feels underused. People are missing out!

Placed in the Westgate Shopping Mall nice selection of food outlets caters for various palettes.

The place we wanted had closed. We had good but expensive burgers instead.

Very interesting selection of foods ranging from bento boxes to burritos and burgers. Lots of places to sit and reasonably priced for in Oxford. The location can be a bit dark but this isn't enough of an issue to lose stars over.

Streetfood inside with many comfortable seating options. Perfect for a recharge after a sightseeing tour! There are also veggie and vegan choices. You can find it downstairs on the ground floor of the shopping centre.

Wonderful place to eat and socialise, great choices of food.

A great choice of eateries offering a wide variety of cuisines in all shapes and sizes...from awesome burgers to great Lebanese wraps or a classic fish and chips. Plenty of seating makes this a great one for groups to meet up and enjoy a casual snack or a full meal, or just to sit and relax by yourself.

Came in here the other day with my granny as her legs were hurting just to sit down as it’s a open space and they told us you can’t sit down unless you buy something I’m sorry but we can’t even sit down anymore ? ridiculous why is it called social ?

I've eaten here a few times and enjoyed,a little pricey tho.
