Oxford's most underrated pub - great food, drinks, and service for a reasonable price. Plus, a relaxed and quiet atmosphere. One of the best 'all rounder' pubs in the city centre, for sure.

Good and Excellent space to hang out

We stopped in for dinner. It was early and we were really jet lagged. But the food is good fare, even for American palates. The drinks are plentiful.

A proper pub that never fails to deliver great service and good food.

The food was excellent and arrived in good time. All special requests for the food were carried out without any problems. Quiet and cosy place, plenty of seating and friendly, helpful staff.

Please be sure to watch your drinks here....... you buy one then they collect/take it away when you are not looking or dancing. I sa them do it and they denied it. Drinks are expensive as it is when you go out! I had one mouthful and it was gone ! Then they kick you out A SAP!

The service was fast and excellent : the waitress was very friendly. And there is a large range of alcohol and food. I'll go back there soon.

Wonderful little pub/restaurant, really delicious and reasonably priced for what you get. The starters we had was the popcorn chicken and the soup of the day, for the main we had gammon steak and the cowboy burger all full of favour and delicious. The drink selection was varied doing good deals on cocktails and beer on tap. This is right at the entrance of Westgate so is ideal if you need a break while your shopping, my one downfall would be I ordered 4 drinks but I only got 3 possibly because the server didn't hear me very well or had forgotten.

Dont bother phoning, not answered until after they open @ 11am. If you need to use the toilet, beware - no lock on the door and just too far to keep shut with your feet. Obviously rarely checked. Food tolerable but not impressive. Plenty of other more caring venues, patronise with care.

It was really good, it was my first food in Oxford and the fish and chips was what I order, the batter was so light and crunchy and the chips were so good as well, the service was 10/10 so nice and polite, help me choose the Guinness, really good everything, will recommend

Such an amazing service! We wanted to order a coffee, and as the machine wasn’t working he made it work specially for us. Bartender (guy with the dark hair) was so so nice and ended up making us such a delicious ice coffee!!!

I spent a great time here with my wife and friends. Their sirloin stake was amazing, I definitely recommend it.

Used to come a lot when I was younger but no longer live local. But on a recent night out decided to show my other half an old haunt of mine (the others all closed down!) Always a good night. Reasonable prices alcohol, good music (although not to our personal taste it's still tunes you can dance to) the atmosphere is great.

Clean and tidy. Great presentation as you walk in its welcoming. Service not quick and tk say no one was watching TV they had football on.

Went in for a pint and found the atmosphere very welcoming and relaxed. The football was on which I enjoyed watching, plenty of screens to watch it on. I presumed I was served by the landlord? Friendly welcome and was very attentive to letting you know that he had seen you waiting. Excellent customer service. Will definitely try the food next time as it looked nice and reasonably priced.

Food was terrible. Service was awful, went for family lunch. Waiter took half of the drinks away when not finished with fingers inside the glasses. when told that we still drinking, he apologised and said will get it replaced but never got back. The manager was so unprofessional. Overall poor and awful place to go for food and drinks. Worst in Oxford.

Pre-show dinner - good choice of simple unpretentious trad pub grub. We went for kebab and fries which were relatively inexpensive for Oxford (£13.50 pp). Staff were fairly attentive and quick to serve and friendly.

Asian bouncer on the door is has some mental health issues. He belittles everyone that comes in. He told me he knows me and I in every week, when I haven’t been there for over a month. My friend is 28 and showed his driving licence. The bouncer told him that it’s not him. Absolute joke and deserves to be sacked, he’s always instigating arguments and trouble. Would be such a better venue without that him.

Had a pint and coke. Interestingly, no local ales on tap. A decent pub but nothing remarkable.

Deeply disappointing - there was an unfriendly vibe already when I walked in. Then I found out that the kitchen was closed at 7:45 on a Tuesday evening, after they went through the effort to distribute flyers offering food discounts. It was a deserted, unwelcoming place - avoid.

Great food and service. We came as a family of 5. Everyone left with a full happy stomach. Definitely a restaurant you will enjoy.

Food is super. All dishes we had were beyond expectations. Fish and chip is simple menu but doing ao great, crispy and tender.

Just popped in for lunch with my daughter and grandson.Not sure if he was the. Manager but he was amazing service big smile I had fish and chips which was delicious and my daughter had mixed grill and also amazing. Value for money will definitely go back.

We came on a rainy Tuesday evening, so can't fairly comment on what the atmosphere is usually like, however I would absolutely return just for the burger and chips! Really fast, friendly service and a burger to die for... (if I wasn't so full, I would have legitimately ordered it again)

It looks very cool when you walk in and then you notice that the seating is awkward, the service is okay, the food took a while and was... okay. My beer was not cold, my wife's red wine was white and the kids drinks were small. Our conclusion was - we should've gone to Nandos. In fairness not many people were eating so we probably picked the wrong spot for a family dinner on a Saturday night.

Didn't ask if I had a dietary requirement. I had already looked at the allergen menu. Steak was a bit grisly but cooked to how I wanted it. Not many staff in their for a Saturday lunchtime so service was slow. Friends had pudding, which looked good.

This is a good spot for casual dining if you don't want to eat at any of the restaurants in the Westgate Shopping Mall. The staff at Cow & Creek were fairly nonchalant and the welcome wasn't especially warm, but the food was really good. I had a Steak & Ale pie with chips and peas. I usually avoid peas but these were so tasty! The pie was beautifully made - perfect pastry, tender meat and rich gravy. The entire meal was piping hot, fresh and full of flavour. Reasonably priced and big portion dish, so great value for money. However, the drinks prices were similar to London, which surprised me!! I had my meal between 5-6pm; therefore, I didn't need to eat for the rest of the evening, which was great! Would re- visit if I happen to be in Oxford City Centre again - hope the staff will be much friendlier though!

Popped in for a few drinks on Saturday,no queues to get in busy but not crammed, reasonably priced,great atmosphere well worth a visit over festive period

I booked a bottomless brunch for my sisters birthday on Thursday 7th December at the Slug and Lettuce. They were very understaffed and we were not even offered a drink after waiting ages. Left without any acknowledgement from the staff and no orders taken. Had a great lunch in the Cow and Creek, where we were warmly welcomed and served. I should have gone there first anyway as it has always been a great place to eat and drink. The staff are always really friendly and welcoming. Went to the Cow and Creek again on the Saturday to meet friends for Christmas drinks. Always a pleasure.

Used to come here regularly for Friday lunch with workmates before Covid. Hadn't been back here for years. Went back during the week for lunch with a new set of workmates and very pleased to say the service is still great. Warm welcome from from staff, food and drinks orders dealt with efficiently. The burger I had (large spicy beef burger) was very tasty and filling. Fries were great too. Everyone else very happy with their food - fish & chips, mac & cheese, bowl of chips. Comfy seating, plenty of space, very clean, great food and service.

This pub is great for meeting up with someone, or just popping in for a bite to eat. Food came out quickly and was very nice, desserts lovely as well. Very impressed.

A short visit to Oxford brought us to lunchtime and the need for somewhere to eat. Happily, we chose the Cow and Creek. A friendly welcome from the guy behind the bar set the tone. My wife and I ordered cod and chips and what a great choice. We have both eaten cod and chips many times but these two meals were up there with the very best. Well done chef. Recommended, not just for the food but the ambience as well.

Although it was a very quiet midweek evening it was good to meet our server by the name of Cuba who was friendly welcoming and encouraged us to visit again 😀

Visited this place, No table service, Pay before you eat or drink at the counter! Unfriendly staff, Steak was rubbery the atmosphere was OK.

A group of 10 of us visited today, and all had drinks and food. Speed of service was good and it felt very relaxed - seemed clean and most food available. Two downsides are that the staff could do with an injection of personality, and the Hunters Chicken was, unfortunately, drier than a Nun's knickers.

Popped in for a quick lunch. The food was very good and the gentleman behind the bar accommodated some substitutions. I particularly loved the buttermilk chicken and will be back for more!

Visited Oxford to go to the theatre. Found this little place to eat Amazing food. Best chips ever. Hunters chicken was delicious . Really friendly service

Won't be coming to this place again and I most certainly won't be ordering any food. They had a mouse running around on the floor and we told the the girl that works there and she said oh yeah we're aware of that. You should not be open if they have vermin running around!

Researched dog friendly bars and cow and creek popped up. We were pleased as there are not many dog friendly places in Oxford. When we got there we were refused entry and also subjected to some sarcastic comments as we were leaving

We visited Oxford in September 2023 and decided to eat at the Cow & Creek. The landlord was very polite and welcoming. The choice of food was good, we had the surf and turf for under £16. The meal was good quality and the steak cooked just right. For this location and price we felt it was good value, hence our 5 star rating. Thank you for a good meal.

Great place to hangout and have some beers. The beers are fresh and delicious.

We went here with our friends and kids at around 7pm on a Saturday. Surprisingly, many popular British pub food options, including classic burgers and fish and chips, were unavailable. As a result, all six of us ended up having to settle for southern fried chicken, which was just okay but not the best choice.

Pub très typique, très bien placé, nourriture excellente et accueil chaleureux. J'étais accompagnée de mes 3 petits-enfants avant le retour à Paris via la gare de Paddington et l'Eurostar pour un dernier déjeuner à Oxford. Ce fut un très bon moment ! Donne envie de revenir.

Popped.in for some lunch and a drink whilst in Oxford was not disappointed the food was hot, well presented and tasted lovely. Reasonably priced, pub was clean and tidy.

The food was delicious, fast service, really nice hospitality! Would definitely come again! 1 classic beef burger, 1 classic chicken burger and 2 beers took around £35.

Food is OK, nothing spectacular but with a good taste. Have nice cocktails promotions and nice beer and cider. The place is nice to go with family and friends. Toilets clean and good music.

We popped in for lunch after visiting the castle. The menu has lots of choice and I had the Ultimate Spicy Beef Burger. It arrived quickly and was piping hot. Very tasty for a reasonable price.
