We hadn't been to the West End Tavern for ages, but chose to go on a quiet Tuesday night. We had a lovely time, the staff were so friendly. We even took our dog who was treated to a bowl of snacks and water. The food was basic pub grub, but well cooked and not pretentious at all. It was well priced unlike so many other establishments we have been to recently. And the beer was well kept, Timothy Taylors. The wine was excellent and again reasonably priced. We'll be back.

We thought we would come out as a family as we dont do it as much as we should. The welcoming we got was outstanding so smiley faces and welcoming staff. It was a nice day so we sat outside in the huge garden which was lovely. The food was amazing and i much say all plates where clean. We have recommended to all friends and family and i must say the landlady was so friendly and officiant. We will definitely be coming back to this place.

We had an excellent meal, cooked by Chef Sam, the fish was so tasty, with an incredible dressing. Really enjoyed the selection of desserts and felt totally spoilt. Amazing service from all the staff, they really do look after you. Will certainly be back!

Came in after a country walk just in time for Sunday lunch. Delicious food, decent portions, good value for money. The West End has different portion sizes depending on your appetite - quite rare for a Sunday lunch menu. Staff were really friendly and professional. Nothing fancy, but a traditional pub!

Under new ownership, this pub has been transformed. The new owners are cheerful and friendly and the place now has a welcoming buzz to it. The bar staff are super friendly and it is nice getting a warm welcome for a change. The only transformation needed is the food. Chips are usually anaemic and the steak pie I had was completely overdone with the crust turned into rubber. Tasted more like microwaved rather than baked in the oven. Hopefully the food will also transform into something better in the coming weeks and months as this could now be a little gem for the village under new management.

We came here for our Christmas meal and had a wonderful time. the food was extremely high quality and the price was very very reasonable. a fantastic selection of gins and local ales to go with their wonderful wine menu. we had a three course meal and was greeted by the owners who are a lovely couple. The place is spotlessly clean and very friendly and welcoming to strangers. The ambience was very nice as was the bar staff and in general we had an excellent experience at the West end tavern in marden. I would highly recommend this wonderful gastropub for its superb menu and diverse repertoire of alcoholic beverages. Highly recommended! We will definitely visit again.

I've lived fairly nearby for a few years and I have to say I drove straight on past as it looked like quite a 'rough' pub previously that attracted the wrong sort of crowd. But having set foot in the pub several times this year now I can say each time has been really good, I've been made to feel welcome, but the welcome isn't overly OTT (like with some pubs). If you want to have a quiet drink you can. I haven't sampled the food yet but will be doing so on my next visit. A good selection of drinks here, they do Harveys best, which is rare for a tied(?) pub. It's only a small place but check it out if you're in Marden.

We visited the West End Tavern last night for a meal, we found Sean and Bridget very welcoming. There is a good selection of food; a variety of pizzas, bar snacks and a blackboard which had traditional pub food on it.I went for the pie and my girlfriend had the pork, decent portion sizes and everything was nice and hot. We had a bottle of local wine with our meal and no desserts. We thought it was reasonably priced at around £40.

A potentially decent pub is ruined by the attitude of the rude barmaid. Made to feel very unwelcome, as if everything was too much trouble. Very poor customer service. I will not be returning.

Rather rude woman I thought. Has not got customer service. She needs to find another job if she does not like this one.

Unless you're a regular, don't bother. They clearly don't want new customers as they were both rude and abrupt from the second we stepped over threshold. Went out of their way to make us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Why be in the hospitality business if your miserable in your work?!

Excellent!! We were a group of 20+ people celebrating for my birthday meal (many coming from abroad) and Bridget and Sean couldn’t have done more to make us feel at home. Food and service was fantastic !! Can’t recommend enough!

My wife and I have just moved in to the area and decided to do the (admittedly short) Marden pub crawl, starting with the West End Tavern. On arrival we were made to feel very welcome by Sean, Bridget and the young lady behind the bar whose name escapes me (if you're reading this, I'm sorry!).

We came here for a drink whilst walking through marden village with the family. We were greeted by a very cold bar member who obviously didn’t want us there. Very rude & extremely unwelcoming. Such a shame but seems like they don’t react well to Newby’s/tourists. Advisable to avoid unless you are a local!

I came with my family for a drink and some lunch. We went to the bar where the barmaid greeted us rudely by telling us to ‘cover up’ and to ‘remember for next time’(my dad and fiancée were wearing vests). She took our drinks order with no trace of a smile and told us that lunch finished at 2 (it was just after 2). She barely looked at us while taking our drinks order with no smile. We couldn’t have felt more unwelcome. We sat in the pub garden to finish our drinks and left straight away. Would not recommend - not the friendly country pub we were hoping for on our holiday!!!!!

I go to this pub a lot but never for Sunday lunch. This will now change having been there on Sunday. As usual a warm welcome and friendly service. Had prawn cocktail perfect followed by roast dinner delicious!! Family had nut roast which they polished off quickly.booking is essential give it a go you will keep going back

We attended a family funeral last Monday in Marden and the congregation gathered at the West End Tavern afterwards. We all received such a warm and friendly welcome and the canape buffet was amazing. Varied, plentiful and of such high quality.

We had reason to visit Marden last Thursday morning for a Family Funeral and having arrived early having travelled over from Dublin that morning we needed somewhere to have a Coffee and Breakfast. The Westend ticked the box perfectly and the warm welcome followed by some lovely Bacon Rolls and Coffee was very much appreciated. The Lady was so friendly as indeed was the gentleman who was the Chef. It was just perfect and what we needed. Lovely country pub with lovely Character too. Many thanks

While staying in the area we were recommended this place for Sunday lunch. Parking is limited but can park along the road, avoiding driveways etc. We had a starter and main. Starter was homemade scotch egg at £5.50 each. Unfortunately this was disappointing. It was served cold and was only 1/2 the scotch egg each which makes the cost quite steep. The lunch was okay but nothing amazing, again that was £10 each. Nothing worth complaining about but could have been better. Seems a nice village pub with a fire but given the number of pubs serving food in local villages I would try somewhere else.

Really very good food at extremely reasonable prices. We started with soup which we think was homemade then my wife had the steak and cheddar pie while I had the lamb. The lamb was cooked to perfection being slightly pink and very juicy. The only let down was the coffee hence 4 stars otherwise it would have been 5.

Dropped in with a lady friend for lunch, on a quiet Thursday. A well laid out pub with a welcoming fire in the dinning area. A nice garden area for the summer months.

I've been staying in Marden for the last week on business. I had been advised to visit this hostilery by a lovely young lady called Michelle after a disappointing visit to another pub not too far from this venue.

Lovely country pub with very low ceilings! (Classic !) had a steak which was cooked lovely but disappointed but the peppercorn sauce as it seemed from can and was very white and didn’t taste anything of peppercorn(that’s my only complaint!)

Recommended by the campsite we were staying at, Still Acres, just a short drive away. Dog friendly, decent country pub with good food and friendly service. Parking can be an issue as the pub has no car park and there are single yellows on both sides of the road outside during the daytime.

We stopped in for a couple of drinks and a lunch. The food was lovely and had a great menu choice for us and children.

We used the West End Tavern as a base from which to head off and scatter my parents ashes who had met just up the road over 70 years earlier. On a very emotional day for some of us, it was great to spend our lunchtime in a good old fashioned country pub.

We stopped at the West End Tavern for a well earned rest and lunch from a longer-than-we-thought walk from our Touring Site at Tanners Farm Park. The staff were very friendly and the food was very substantial and welcoming. We would recommend this Inn to anyone who is is need of sustinance. We were also bowled over by the kindness and generosity of the Landlady (Bridget?) who so kindly drove us back to our Touring Park, which was so kind of her. This pub is a little out of the village centre (although it’s a long village, so perhaps it’s more accurate to say it is at one end of the village). We only stopped for a drink so can’t comment on the food, but it turned out to be a very pleasant place to go for a drink. The bar was comfortable, the landlady (I assume) friendly and welcoming and if I lived locally it’s the sort of place where I would happily become a regular. The ale was good (Harvey’s, but there was a choice) and the atmosphere restful and agreeable (unless you bang your head on one of the low beams, so watch out – although the landlady is alert to the possibility and gives due warning).

Enjoyable couple of evenings and one lunch time, food and service was excellent. Our dog Libby was made very welcome so in turn made our visit great.

We have been visiting the area and staying in a local campsite. Not knowing the area we did a small online search and the West End Tavern seemed to ne popular. It has a small menu, however in such a rural area felt that this is because they pride themselves on their freshly prepared food as stated on the online menu, and even appreciated that there was a disclaimer that due to each meal being freshly prepared that there may be a wait during busy periods. Trip Advisor reviews seemed fairly reasonable.

We booked here for lunch for 7 people prior to doing the Anno distillery tour.

We popped in for a drink on the Sunday of a trip to be greeted by what most likely was the owner. She was lovely, friendly and helpful. Our intention was to return for dinner the Monday night.

Finally found a “local” with superb customer service friendly and helpful staff and great value food!! As a Marden resident would highly recommend this pub to all for just a drink, or pub lunch and the Sunday roast is absolutely superb!!! 👍

As a family of four, we all found what we fancied on the menu. Decent food, reasonably priced. Good selection of Ales. The pizzas must be good as the locals collect take-aways!

We were a group of ten cyclists, and the landlord couldn't have been less accommodating. We were knackered and hungry, and they just weren't interested. This has been a regular stop for our group over some years, but I have asked the powers that be to consider dropping this place in favour of somewhere better. In fact on a previous occasion when we have eaten here, it's well below the standard of all the pubs we visit on our rides. The bar service was incredibly slow, with the staff more intent on their personal conversations than attending to customers. In any case, I can't think of any pub that is customer focussed that stops serving food at 2 o'clock these days.

evening meal from the specials board, the cod was cooked just right with new potatoes and veg fantastic and very good price. we took our puppy with us and they really made us very welcome we will certainly return many thanks to all of you!!

Went to this lovely pub today. Last time I went I mentioned I wish they did fish and chips but breadcrumbs as being a diabetic mustn't have batter. What a lovely surprise it was on specials board. It was beautiful great chips and huge side salad instead of peas. Back again next Tuesday can't wait

I ordered the duck in sweet chilli sauce with mixed veg. It was delicious, and a very generous portion. I am lactose intolerant, so when a mix of three sorbets (elderflower, lemon and mandarim) was offered as a sweet, it was impossible to resist. The price was very reasonable and the service from both the waitress and chef was tip top.

Great local pub. Superb food and friendly owners. In the winter it’s very cosy and in the Summer it is decorated beautifully with hanging baskets. Always guaranteed a great Sunday roast.

It amazes me how a chef can make something as simple as Hunters chicken (chicken breast, bacon & BBQ sauce) into something so special - see attached photo. The presentation is outstanding plus the quality & quantity fantastic. You won't leave the West End Inn...

We are so lucky to have this lovely friendly pub in our village. The menu is interesting and varied and you can be sure of a warm welcome from Bridget and Sean. It's exactly how a country pub should be.

We visited to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The pub is beamed and genuinely old world in style. The menu choices were limited, but varied enough to make selection worthwhile. I chose an 8oz ribeye steak with chips, onion rings etc and my wife chose breaded fish and chips. We shared creamy garlic mushrooms as a starter. As this was a Monday night, things were quiet but we spent time chatting to friends who also happened to be there. I purchased a bottle of Rioja for £16, which I thought was a fair price. Our food was well up to standard, my steak was cooked perfectly and well presented. My wife enjoyed her fish and we both enjoyed the starter. Overall I rate this venue as 3.5 stars and better than average as shown above. Worth a visit.

Dicho esto he estado allí por la noche y es un buen lugar para tomar una copa por la noche si su local. Simplemente no es realmente un buen lugar para almorzar.

Llegamos y nos recibieron y nos llevaron a nuestra mesa reservada. Disfrutamos de pescado asado los domingos y alternativa, marlin. Roasties deliciosa y una buena selección de verduras bien cocinadas. Terminado el almuerzo nos llevaron a nuestra mesa reservada fuera listo para la banda. Was passing by and needed lunch. Parked outside, dog was welcome and got his own bowl of water. It was not that busy at lunch time but my wife had an excellent omelette made to order with her choice of ingredients. Drinks well served, good choice of food and pleasant staff. Looks like it is also the centre of village life. Will visit again next time we are in the area.

My mum moved to the village a few months ago and as the West End Tavern was walking distance, I thought we'd give it a go for Sunday lunch. Suffice it to say that I now bring Mum here most Sundays and we always get a warm welcome and good food, and it feels like a proper local, even though I live an hour's drive away!

We arrived at about 1.50pm, and asked if we could order some food, as they finish serving at 2pm, it was not a problem, we ordered and enjoyed a chat with the Landlady.The food arrived and wow, fresh, interesting and just what we both needed.
