Lovely environment, welcoming staff, food was of a very high standard however a bit pricey. Will return again.

Brilliant menu, friendly staff that always provide a very enjoyable night out. My wife and I use this resturant very frequently. The food is freshly cooked, plentiful and always very delicious Last night, 19th May my wife had the Malaysian chicken curry with coconut rice I had my usual King Prawn Mee goring. Joyce the owner will prepare the food to your request adjusting the spices to suit your taste. It really is an excellent resturant very reasonable prices and a good selection of drinks at the bar. If you are unsure of the menu selections Joyce is only too happy to explain the ingredients/dishes. Dr. L. S. Reeves

I've had takeaways from Unicorn @ West End before. Six of us went for dinner - a completely different experience. Our host was passionate about her food, asked what we liked and made recommendations accordingly. Such a difference having it freshly made. We got over excited and ordered too much. They boxed it up for us so more to enjoy later. I've eaten a lot of sushi, can't remember any as good. We are big fans of South East Asian food, this is up there with the best.

I wasn't sure what to rate it as the food and restaurant are lovely, plus it's nice having something a bit different in Melksham. It's just the woman who seems to run it is a bit abrupt and non accommodating, so gave 4 stars instead of 5. I'm not a big meat eater but I love the Asian sauces to pour over the rice and often waste the meat, so I asked if I could have less meat and more sauce. Then the woman just said 'no, I have it like it comes.' I wasn't sure if maybe she just didn't understand me as my request to have less chicken was in their favour, so repeated, 'so I can't have less chicken and more sauce then?' Again she said no I have the portion it comes in and that's it. I found it a bit confusing, as most food places take requests for small changes. Maybe she just didn't understand, but then her English was good enough to run a restaurant, so it confused me. It's like others have said, great food but service is lacking. Everything else is great, as the food is lovely and I would have given 5 stars if the management were more accommodating. I'm also confused about the name, as the menus say it's The West End, but the receipt says it's The Unicorn Restaurant. There's no indication on the outside of the pub it's a Japanese/Malaysian restaurant. I lived in Melksham 5 months before I found out it was in that pub.

My family, 6 adults and one toddler had an amazing evening at the resturant last night. Joyce and her staff provided excellent service and food which was plentiful and the taste was amazing. If you have not tried Malaysian or Japanese food before then this is the ideal resturant to try it. The extensive menu covers many different types and the staff are only too willing to explain any part of it. The dishes you choose can be prepared to your own taste, Prices are really modest whilst the amount of food is plentiful. I cannot recommend this resturant highly enough It is well worth a visit, you will not be disappointed. Dr. L. S. Reeves

Found this restaurant when we were in a hurry to find something close to where we were staying.I think this establishment has had a few changes recently and is now a Maysian/Japanese restaurant. It’s also a pub which looked inviting but the restaurant is off to the side. Menu was extensive with quite a few dishes new to me. Service was very friendly and attentive and the whole experience was great. If we find ourselves in Melksham again, I will certainly return.

The lady who took the table reservation over the phone was very friendly. The restaurant area was beautifully decorated, the food was delicious (Japanese) & good value - would happily score 5 stars for all this...but the service was awful. The lady who served us the food was the unfriendliest I've ever come across (hence 1 star) - snatching the menus back & generally sour-faced. Felt quite unwelcome. There are plenty of other places in Melksham that do good food & always serve it with a smile. This place has a minimum order on JustEat of £25! It's good, but it's not that good!!

Visited this place on 18/9/20, was fairly quiet but I can only assume that the owners must be making serious money as I stood at the bar waiting to be served for ages, whilst barman was deep in conversation with, what I assume to be a regular, no more than 3 yards away from me. Only when I said to my wife that we were leaving did he bother to acknowledge my presence, TOO LATE. Considering the current pressures on hospitality, its a pretty poor attitude.

This pub used to be Hungry Horse. It now serves an excellent range of Asian food at great value. We stopped with family of young teens and were well fed with authentic malaysian, thai, sushi, Japanese and noodle dishes. Cooked by a Malaysian lady who is passionate about her food and does not disappoint with flavour or portion size. Highly recommend this, wide range on menu, choice of spiciness for each dish and excellent value. All open July 2020.

It's now a Malaysian restaurant with an excellent mix of Japanese, Thai and Chinese food. Now on our third visit in 2 months. Food is a great mix of all things from the far east, we are working our way through the menu and have not had a bad dish yet. Portions are generous so you don't need to order lots of different dishes. Service would put many top restaurants to shame..

We went to the West End Inn to celebrate Father’s Day as my pa is a Malaysian veteran. I was delighted at the decor and ambiance in the Restaurant and the hospitality of our lovely waitress and Joyce the owner/chef was beyond lovely. I could not believe how extensive the menu was with something for everyone available. Joyce was chatting to us and explained that she makes all her own pastes and can add to it to make it to your desired choice of spiciness. The food is beautifully presented but does come out one after the other as Joyce cooks it all fresh for you. The portions are plentiful too. Being a former Hungry Horse it is suitable for disabled visitors including the parking and toilet facilities. Our meal was very reasonable coming to £77.00 for 5 of us, although we did all have soft drinks including green teas and coffees after. We will all definitely be returning to this lovely restaurant for more delicious food from this lovely lady. Thank you Joyce xx

We visited the West End last night previously a ‘Hungry Horse’ it’s now serving Malaysian and Japanese food. We were warmly greeted on arrival and shown to our table. The menu is varied and interesting and the waiter was on hand to explain the detail. The food was really good; I loved the sushi (I forgot to take a photo but it was nicely presented) Main courses arrived at the table nice and hot. It was all very tasty and plentiful. Our waiter was great fun and he took the time to join in with my husband’s banter. For those who the know the West End the bar remains as a bar but the restaurant has been separated. The new owners have worked hard to tidy the place up and give it that Asian feel. And it’s very clean! We will definitely return.

Whilst the food is very cheap as is the alcohol the service at times is lacking. The whole place needs an overhaul as it's not only looking tired and dated it's dirty. The yellow walls are black - yuk! it doesn't take much it give them a wipe. There's food inside the lightshades, which I can only assume someone has chucked there. You can't order anything from the breakfast menu as it doesn't open until 11am when the breakfast menu finishes, but for some strange reason they still advertise the breakfasts on the table menus!

Came here for a family meal to celebrate a birthday and the service was shocking! First of all we were all waiting 1.5 hours from when we ordered to when we received the food and didn't all receive food at the same time as one of my family members received his after we had all finished.A few people made changes to their meals and the kitchen got them all wrong.Asked and payed for onion rings and got told 1/2 an hour later that they were out of onion rings but then saw them on the neighbouring tables plates. Most of the food was cold. Most of my family ordered Coke to drink and the Coke was flat and served to us in dirty glasses. The light shade above our table had food remains in it that you could see including a chicken bone, chips and other various food items. The waitress that came out to serve the starters, held a bowl full of boiling hot soup over the head of a one year old moments after the same women tipped hot gravy down a baby on a neighbouring table! Very slow service and asked to speak to the manager who never showed up!Overall it was a very poor service and myself and my family will definitely not be returning here again!

I have been to many hungry horse restaurants and to be honest they are OK for what you pay. But as a must the chef (and I use that phrase lightly) must be able to cook a steak to how you order it.several times now I have ordered medium and they all come well done! This particular hungry horse did not have enough staff taking orders at the bar. More interested in tidying glasses and talking with locals about Christmas.

To say I am angry is an understatement. I go to This place every Sunday for lunch with my Daughter an friend. I booked for 9 people to go yesterday 20 12 15 for my daughters 16th birthday. This was booked in their diary 5 weeks ago. My friend drove over in the morning with cake, banners and balloons only to be told that the staff had walked out due to some dispute with a temporary manager. 1 hour later I get a phone call to say other staff will be in and not to worry. At 1.30 pm I get another phone call to say no staff its closed. At this point I have my daughter and her friends gathered at my house expecting to go out for her birthday meal. I(then had to ring around to find somewhere else to feed 9 people. Fortunately I did at the last minute and the day was saved but I will never grace this establishment again. My friend had to drive back over and pick up the cake etc and all they said was sorry. Well sorry isn't good enough for ruining a teenagers birthday

Went here with my husband and daughter as we had a powercut and needed some food. We had a starter of cheesy garlic bread...was soggy on the bottom...its like they purchased a pack of frozen garlic bread slices and melted cheese on the top. My husband had cod n chips. Cod was overcooked and was accompanied by horseradish sauce instead of tartre. My daughter had the chicken nuggets kids meal. Nuggets were to overdone. I had tikka banquet no complaints on mine. Dessert we each had a mini mania. No complaints there. service was fast. Bill was cheap. So all round good for the money

A great lunch or casual dinner place is right in the supermarket! We had a great meal when we just went in for a quick snack after a successful food shopping trip. Kudos to the kitchen staff, especially JASON, who made us feel welcome and served up some great food (fish and chips, cheeseburgers, fries, hamburgers, chicken nuggets for the children). I'd go back any time we're shopping in Chippenham.

We booked for a family lunch yesterday. Restaurant is lovely and staff were very welcoming. Our starters were amazing, absolutely delicious. Though the roast was very average in my opinion. We had roast pork which stated it came with stuffing. It wasn’t on the plate so we had to ask for that. The lady did bring out 2 stuffing balls but we had 3 roasts. Carrots were very hard. Very average for the price I would say. We did have a lovely time and we will definitely be back, but will just probably go for something else other than a roast next time.
