West Beach Bar & Kitchen in Brighton and Hove

We wanted a drink before going for dinner and spotted this sunny terrace overlooking the sea, it did the job with a decent glass of wine.

Julie, in the Café bar area, provided exceptional customer service! During my initial visit last year, I was warmly welcomed by Julie, a charming blonde lady. I mentioned that I had no prior knowledge of this establishment, and she kindly offered a brief history of its existence. She recommended that I explore the café's interior, leading me to the outside area with its breathtaking views. Her genuine hospitality and attention to the customer were remarkable. I enjoyed a coffee paired with some delectable cake while basking in the sun and admiring the stunning vistas. Julie's thoughtfulness shone through when she noticed my attempts to capture a photograph of myself with the view, and she graciously offered to take some pictures for me using my phone, which made my day. Her sincere interest and care were truly refreshing, especially after a less-than-stellar experience I had in the main restaurant downstairs a few days prior. I'm delighted to say that I've revisited the café over a dozen times since then and wholeheartedly endorse it. It still seems to be a well-kept secret, where not many people are aware of the fantastic ambiance and top-notch customer service it offers. I eagerly anticipate my next visit.

Great views of the beach but tables filthy and the croissants are stale. Dirty cups and plates everywhere

Nice upper level food and drink place with a good range of views and other things to see while sitting out in the good weather in season, nice selection of things to have here and great and quick service when it is not too busy.

We had booked afternoon tea after our ride on the i360. Reece looked after us so well from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. He was so friendly and helpful and made our time here so much fun. Thank you.

After a trip to i360, stopped here for a cup of coffee. We found great deals on Coffee and Cakes (£5.50) and the cakes were nice. The location couldn’t be better. Right on the beach with great views and outside seating on a good day. The Salt and Pepper Squid and Loaded Nachos were pretty good as well. Hannah served us and she was extremely warm and helpful. Definitely recommended for a drink or even a meal if you are out and about in Brighton.

The worst espresso martin I've ever had the misfortune to attempt to drink, satq dirty table. Shame they are relying on their location.

We had very high hopes for this place but were disappointed. It has a nice view, but food is where they lack. First of all we were waiting about 45 minutes after we ordered, then I went to ask if they got my order, just to make sure, and after I reminded them about our order it came after about 5 minutes but the burger and fries were almost completely cold, so I’m guessing the food was made on time but was forgotten about by staff. Aperol you could tell was diluted with water, and the glass was dirty. They have some nice seating areas inside though and massive toilet facilities due to the fact that they’re right next to the i360 thingy.

Took an hour for our food to come to table, asked for refund and left.

I visited after midday so was presented with the brunch menu. I thought I would try the vegetable burger. I was very disappointed when I received it. It was 2 mushrooms, pepper and coleslaw (individual items) placed in.a bun. I have been eating burgers for 40 years, this wasn't a burger!!!! Describing it as a burger is misleading. I may as well have had the mushrooms, pepper and coleslaw with fries without the bun.

Avoid. Great location but let down by poor service and very poor food. Fish and chips, a cold greasy mess. Mushy peas - disgusting. Caesar salad, bland consisting of 4 ingredients. There are plenty of other better places to eat in town so avoid this place completely.

This is a good place for meals on the sea front at Brighton with good views out across the sea towards the ruined West Pier. The staff are friendly and helpful and prices are reasonable. The menu provides a good range for all tastes and when served, is well presented and tasty. The restaurant itself is comfortable and toilets in the adjoining i360 gift shop clean and well maintained.

Overpriced and incredibly slow service

Only had a Coffee here and it was counter service. Great location over looking beach & sea. Tables and furniture were a bit grubby. One thing I did not like was dogs being allowed inside.

Slow, slow, slow. How long should it take to make a tea and a coffee. Still waiting. The place is half empty but still waiting.

West Beach Bar and Restaurant is a great place to go for a drink with friends or family. It has a beautiful location right on the beach, with stunning views of the English Channel. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and the staff are always happy to help. I didn't eat here, but did have a few drinks. The cocktails were nice, and the beer was cold and refreshing. I also tried the prosecco, which was good. The food menu looks nice and cater to a wide range of palate. Overall, I had a great time at West Beach Bar and Restaurant. It's a great place to relax and enjoy the views of the sea.

Perfectly placed opposite the old pier, they were super busy over bank Holiday weekend, the kitchen lost control, nearly 1 hr wait, children's meals were good value but not so for adults. Bar service could be improved

At the time of the order I questioned the bill as seemed a bit steep and I was reasured that the bill was correct for the two drinks and crisps I had ordered. just over 10 minutes later our drinks arrived to our table and an extra drink of some kind of spirit arrived. I explained that I had not ordered it and the waitress was good enough to refund it, this explained why it was more expensive than i had thought. Not sure I would order food from here, the bar was filthy, covered in spilt coffee and drinks, there were piles of glasses waiting to be washed and the tables outside were not much cleaner - so this put me off ordering food. The staff were nice and friendly, evidently very busy. Still surpisred how that chap I ordered with managed to add an extra drink! Sadly, we would not go back here

Ordered food & drinks at 1400. I asked how long food would take and was told 20-30mins. Food took 50 mins. Drinks took 30 mins. This was an unacceptable wait. There was plenty of time to observe other customers complaining about the wait, waiting staff wandering about with orders that they couldn’t match with customers and families getting their food at different times. Food was okay, nothing special. Best thing was basking in the lovely sunshine, but they can’t take credit for that!

Booked Mother's Day deal with a trip on the i360. We had a table for four but only 3 seats were available. We were given incorrect menus. Drinks and food took a long time to arrive. They just kept getting things wrong and it was so disorganised. We weren't the only ones - tables around us suffered the same issues. Still, I suppose the manager was focused on ensuring people's pets were looked after but shame about their owners orders. Avoid this place if you don't want to be disappointed.

We arrived at 4pm and was hoping for a hot drink during the cold day. When I went to the bar area to order, the lady who seemed to be the manager said is it for hot drinks, so I said yes. She then said sorry we are not serving hot drinks. I asked why, and she said we are closing in 1 hours time, and preparing the clean/pack the machines. You have 1 hour left of your serving customers. Anyway, I went to the tickets area for my trip up the i360. I asked staff there is the restaurant/bar still serving. They both said yes, it should be, and went off to check. They came back saying, yes so they are not serving and then gave the best response to me - they stop serving when they feel like it. Thankfully, I was able to get a hot drink just before going into the i360 donut, however I am not impressed at the lack of customer service, the attitude and "vague" fake responses.

Poor, slow service although we were offered free drinks for the wait , the food was disappointing with a small portion of fish , a smear of mushy peas , stringy brisket on the burger and insipid coleslaw . Altogether an unpleasant experience in a draughty restaurant on Mother’s Day

Never been some where that turns off their coffee machine 2hours before closing 'because they like to clean early'

Similar pattern to reading many other reviews in that we ordered 3 drinks and 3 food orders. When the four drinks came over we knew there was an issue and we had been overcharged for a large glass of wine, which in fairness was immediately refunded. After 35 minutes we noticed tables near us who ordered after us had received their food orders. Polite enquiry identified our order had been missed in the kitchen and would be made immediately. The food of fish finger sandwiches and Cajun wrap were fine. No issue with the food. We were all offered a complimentary drink for the error so the second glass of wine came back without being charged this time!! If the front of house management had any awareness skills they would realise which tables had been sitting for an extended period without food on the table. It's a tourist trap for sure and having visited many other restaurants in Brighton we will not return.....

Fine - but grubby though. Chair covers particularly clearly had spills and in need of a proper clean. It’s also a pretty echoey space with all the concrete!

Beautiful view, clean toilets and that’s about it. Ordered breakfast which was utterly disgusting. Plastic, dry scrambled eggs, sourdough toast that was clearly white toasted bread and a pitiful amount of smoked salmon. Coffee served in a chipped mug.

Went in for a drink and snack, as parents had been in previously last summer and enjoyed it. The atmosphere is very strange as there’s no music at all so just feels awkward in a sense. The table was filthy when we arrived asked if it could be cleaned for the lad to bring a dry blue paper towel and sweep the crumbs basically onto the floor, no spray applied nothing, bits of food not cleaned off the floor. We ordered our drinks and fries at the counter then watched as a young lad and older lady which I assume was the manager ignored serving these drinks to us along with another 4 tables. After watching them ignore them for 5-10 minutes we went got them instead, the bar tender looked embarrassed at this. The staff overall look miserable never smiling. The lady I presume is the manager looked unprofessional compared to the lads who looked smarter in a uniform and only seemed to do any work when any senior management was around. This place could be amazing if they sorted the customer service skills out and staff acted like they care abit more

A bit of a cafe vibe. Order at the counter for service. Food was prompt and very good. Prices reasonable for location, quality and quality. Friendly helpful service, nice atmosphere. 👍

Very disappointing food £16. Scampi consisted of some sort of fish but not scampi I know of. Food piled on top of small bit of mushy peas. Not to be recommended. No flavour to fish.

Amazing breakfast! We had a charity event in the morning followed by breakfast 20 of us all at once and cannot fault anything . Service was quick and efficient . Food was perfect not one person complained . Totally recommend

We held our winter micro wedding at the West Beach Cafe and it was an absolutely magical day. The venue was perfect, just the right size for the 20 guests. The team at the West Beach Cafe were amazing, so attentive and professional. They decked out the cafe in beautiful decorations and set everything up beautifully for us so when we arrived everything it all looked perfect and everything was in place for the guests. Really glad we held our wedding there, thank you. X

I had an horrible and rude customer service from the blond lady that manages the bar. She is unsuitable for managing the caffe.

Had i360 and brunch. Service was very very slow, Our brunch was wrong was corrected after a long wait wasn't enjoyable, sausage was like rubber. Would not recommend other then the view was brilliant

Visited for my birthday today with my partner and the service was appalling. After having to ask for menu’s, and sitting there for almost half an hour trying to get the attention of staff, we finally decided to leave. Now I’ve worked in the food industry and understand it can be a lot of pressure, the restaurant was not busy. There were 3 ladies working, and not one of them came over to ask if we were ready to order or even to get us any drinks. Clearly I’m not the only one who’s had this issue looking at the reviews! Seems as though the staff may need further training. We ended up going to an American Diner further down the sea front and the experience was much better with attentive staff. Try elsewhere, wouldn’t bother here.

Tomato soup good but scampi and chips lukewarm and not crispy. Both chips and scampi piled on top of mushy peas which were cold and lumpy. Tartare sauce also under chips. Would have preferred this served separately. Main course served as soon as starter was cleared which was too quick.

Came in after a walk along the beach. Not acknowledged by staff in the outside seating area, so went inside to speak with someone at the bar. I was made to feel I was inconveniencing the staff by asking for a menu. Told there was a delay on food, then the kitchen was closed. When we asked about coffee and cake, we were told they MIGHT be able to do it. The staff member asked us to find a seat outside and they will bring a menu over straight away. After 20 mins of waiting, no staff came back. We watched another table leave who said they had been waiting longer than us. Dirty tables, plates of food left for a good 30 mins. At least the seaguls were being fed.... possibly they were short staffed in the kitchen, but front of house did not look exceptionally busy. Also a 10% service charge on all tables, for none existent service, interesting concept

The staff especially supervisor or manager. (Sorry didn't get her name) so helpful. Had my Granddaughter and my friend had his dog. We ate, food was quick, hot and very tasty and price was good seeing it's on seafront. The staff made you feel welcome even offered a baby-chino-warm milk with slight shavings of chocolate.. 5 * for staff and all..

Food was absolutely fabulous and the staff were clearly trying hard but the coffees arrived almost stone cold. The manager kindly agreed replacements which were slightly warmer, but mine never arrived. I'd definitely try it again as I think this was probably just a blip.

Dropped in there with my partner on New Year bank holiday just for a couple of coffees. After sitting at the table for a good 10 to 15 minutes and nobody coming to take our order, we managed to get the attention of a member of staff who came to our table and didn't seem all that happy that he'd had to come and take the order. We sat patiently for about half an hour waiting for our two coffees while noticing that the table next to us (who had arrived later) had already ordered, been served a round of drinks and ordered and received their hot food. At this point my partner went up to the bar to politely check that our order hadn't been lost. We were told that the coffees were "coming". We waited another 15 minutes for the coffees and then decided that we weren't going to wait any longer, so we left. We could see that it was a fairly busy bank holiday but we couldn't quite understand how a latte and a black americano could take over an hour. It left me wondering whether we were just invisible as it didn't seem that there was a shortage of staff. Even when the place had quietened right down, there was still no sign that we were ever going to get our coffees. Very disappointing.

Appalling service. My family and I decided to visit this restaurant after a walk along the beach. We walked in only two be stood for a very long time without any acknowledgment by staff. I walked over to a waiter and asked if could be seated, they pointed at a dirty table, and told us to sit. Assuming the table would be cleaned we sat and waited patiently however no one came to clean the table and neither were we offered a menu. We tried to get the attention of staff but they were so busy faffing about, so after waiting a very long time for absolutely nothing we walked out hungry and thirsty. I wouldn’t even bother visiting this so called restaurant. Very loud, unorganised, unprofessional and unfriendly

Went in to a few hot drinks and pastries whilst passing on a walk. The positive is the pastries were lovely. But it took 45minutes for the cups of tea and coffees to arrive, had to ask multiple times and they got the order wrong....

We had a package of a flight on the 360i and a meal with "Elvis" tribute act. The meal in general was very good,but I don't think they could coup with the amont of meals to be served.Inconsistant portions,some meals of chicken on our table were given mustard as a condiment only o e was given cranberry sauce,did ask for a cranberry but it never arrived. Again on the desert there was incosistant portions. Drinks service was very slow and they kept forgetting drinks. As for "Elvis" most of the crowd enjoyed him.We had a good laugh thou.

The chef came out to explain how he had cooked the Beef brisket for 12 hrs - a lovely touch I thought but could he really deliver on a good Sunday roast at 3pm on a Sunday in November !! Oh yes - from a Cotswold foodie - hands down best Sunday lunch this year - well done !

Nice location at the beach side!

Stopped for a coffee to kill time before heading out of Brighton. Nice coffee and cakes looked excellent but remained unsampled as had just eaten breakfast.

Delicious breakfast. Hash browns amazingly crispy, sausages so tasty, salmon to die for and nice fresh beans. Well impressed!

Food was good quality but unfortunately the service was incredibly slow even when it wasn't very busy. We had to ask 4 times for a jug of water, after 20 minutes I asked if we could order food. Food arrived 40 minutes later minus 1 meal that had been missed. I had to ask for cutlery, then again for a spoon as one of our party had the soup. We would have had more drinks and a dessert if it wasn't such a long wait to order.

30 minutes in and still waiting for a coffee and a water! Now got the coffee at last and it’s dreadful! Bitter beyond belief. No wonder they make you pay first. And add a 10% service charge.

Ja, der Service ist etwas langsam. Es gibt viel Personal, das jedoch wenig koordiniert wirkt. Dafür sind aber alle sehr freundlich. Qualität und Zubereitung unseres Frühstücks waren völlig in Ordnung und bei schönem Wetter dort mit Blick auf das West Pier zu sitzen, gleicht die Mängel wieder aus.

Horrible service! I’m shocked! We were seated promptly but completely ignored afterwards(not one person spoke to us). Other tables who came after us were serviced before. There’s no excuse for the bad customer service as it was nearly empty anyways. Staff were just standing around having their own conversations. After 30 minutes we got up and left for another restaurant. Highly suggest Lucky Beach further down the beach.

Food was ok. Staff were hilariously appalling. If Mrs Overall had grandchildren, then they work here! Our waitress didn’t know a single thing. I asked her questions and it seemed she may have had delayed reaction and was answering questions she’d been asked the week before. Our starters arrived AFTER our mains😮 They said, yeah that’s what we do here🤣😂😂😂 Main waiter, the much older man who seats you, coughed and sputtered all over the place. Fortunately we were outside! I think this is where Covid outbreak must have started! Manager was ignorant as sin. She had to refund our starters. She flip- flopped over to our table and thrust, what I thought was a concealed weapon at us (the payment machine) and in the style of the Moma from “Throw Mona from the train” and flip-flopped away. A nice place to eat, staff attentive food great and coffee even better, could be the best coffee in Brighton, and with the I 360 above you.
