Wonderful gift shop with lots of options. The ice cream here is delicious. Large portions. Reasonable prices. And I must mention the wonderful staff! We bought ice cream and then accidentally dropped it. And they gave us another ice cream on the house. That was such a sweet gesture, really made my day!

I'm going to split this review into 3 parts. The cheese experience, the gift shop/toilets and the cafe. The cheese experience is worthy of 5*****. The demonstration, information and cheese tasting was fabulous. We really enjoyed it. Top tip - look out for leaflets at the tourist information points and you'll get 2for1 entry on the day (you can't prebook with this method). The gift shop and toilets are worthy of 5***** as well. A well stocked cheese shop where you can buy a shed load of cheese to take home (and we did) & a general gift shop. The cafe... Oh dear the cafe.... 1*. I acknowledge it was Saturday and busy but even so service was all over the place. Disorganized at best. There were 7 of us. 3 had sandwiches that were ready prepared behind the counter although there was limited availability left. I wanted the cheese & carrot but was told they were sold out, however 20 minutes later, while I was still waiting for what I had ordered instead they put out a new tray of cheese & carrot sandwiches! We ordered a soup, a toasted tea cake & 3 nachos with chilli and cheese. We were told the soup would be about 10 minutes and that was fine. Well none of the "hot" food came to the table for almost 30 minutes. The nachos were awful. They tasted as if they had been plated up at the time we ordered and then left sitting until the soup was ready to come out. They were cold & soggy but honestly we were so hungry by this point that we were all half way through before we looked at one another and said the same thing "these are pretty bad". I know I should have just taken them all back up to the counter but we couldn't face another 30 minute wait for food so we just left. We had hoped to have something in the main restaurant but were told it was fully booked and they couldn't accommodate a table of 7. A large table was set up for a booking and it was still empty when we left almost 90 minutes later. We would definitely visit the Creamery again to buy more cheese but we wouldn't use the cafe again. They need to improve their organization and management drastically.

Absolutely incredible and a must do experience when you are in the Yorkshire Dales. For the bargain price of £5.75 you can get a thorough lesson in cheese making, as well as learn the history of this interesting place. The museum is full of details and the cheese tasting at the end is delightful. Note if you want to see the factory running you will need to visit on a weekday as it is closed on a weekend.

The gentleman doing the introduction was comical and engaging! Unfortunately, there was no one working on Easter Sunday (or any Sunday). This place is very easy to find, it is very well sign posted. On visiting the Dairy there is lots of parking. Visiting the Gift shop, there is hand sanitisers and a one way system which seamed to be working well, we visited the 1897 coffee shop and it is well organised, staff where very polite and friendly, we then visited the gift shop and again the staff are really friendly and the lady at the till had a long conversation with us. Visiting the Museum and factory could be better sign posted as it was a bit of pot luck to find the entrance! As a working factory we didn’t just want to wander around! We paid and there is so much information to read, all very good and interesting, including the Wallace and Grommet experience! And a chance for some photos! We then visited the factory and did see some of the cheese making but a family decided to take up the whole of the viewing area and where not moving! We moved on to watch an amazing cheese making demonstration which is well worth the money! Again a very friendly staff member and happy to answer any questions, very knowledgeable!! In all it’s a great day and worth a visit! I think we will visit again!!! 5 stars and well done to all the staff!!!

My husband, 11-year-old son, and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Wensleydale Creamery. From start to finish, it was a fantastic experience, and we would highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in cheese-making (or eating)! We attended a talk by a lovely man named Clive, who was incredibly passionate and knowledgeable. He spoke about how the cheese is made, where it is sourced from, and its rich history. His enthusiasm made the talk engaging, and we learned so much—including the fascinating fact that nothing in the cheese-making process goes to waste. One of the byproducts is even used by a local firm to generate electricity, powering nearly 2,000 homes! The demonstration lasted around 45 minutes and was a great way to start our visit. From there, we moved on to the factory area, where we got to sample a variety of different Wensleydale cheeses—every single one was delicious! There were also fun Wallace and Gromit displays and interactive exhibits for both children and adults. We could see into the factory, but as it was a Sunday, production wasn’t running. We’ve already decided we’ll return on a weekday to see the process in action. After our tour, we explored the gift shop, which was well-laid out and had a great selection. One of our favorite parts was the cheese shop near the café, where we had the chance to taste even more cheeses. We appreciated that there was no pushy sales approach, making it a relaxed and enjoyable experience. In the end, we purchased four different cheeses—though we easily could have bought more! We’ve already said we’ll be returning with my parents, as we know they’ll love it just as much as we did. It was fantastic value for money and we highly recommend a visit!

We came for the cheese making demonstration and lunch, and if I could give it more than 5 stars I would. The demonstration was fantastic in showing a step-by-step demonstration for 30 minutes, then going to a second building to see a glimpse of the factory, taste their cheeses, learn more about the creamery's history, see the infamous Wallace & Gromit, and other kids hands on displays. The demonstration itself sat 60 people, but everything was still easy to see as they have a thoughtful setup with a camera pointed at the bowls and projected on TVs. I'd recommend getting there a little before to read the signs/objects around the room and get your preferred seat. It was very informative and a great value at £5.95 for adults. The cafe was also delicious, and extremely vegetarian friendly with all the cheese options! The restaurant was fully booked when we arrived before 12, so recommend prebooking if headed there. The cafe was also a good value, with many mains, hot drinks, and pastries on offer - along with a good countryside view. Outdoor tables also available. The shop was also decent sized, with a good assortment of Yorkshire, sheep, Wallace & Gromit, and other items available. The best part, though, was the cheese area as you can sample and buy all of the cheeses, along with other food items like chutneys or crackers. Facility wise: They have clean toilets in the shop area. The car park in front is small but there is a larger car park in the back.

Nut allergy sufferers BEWARE While in the Wensleydale area we visited the Wensleydale creamery for a visit as heard it could be good. We were disappointed but not because of the information, that was nice although quite repetitive but by how staff acted. They were friendly but dismissive of concerns. The tour is basically a few corridors into a room with a kitchen and lots of benches to watch the process, it takes about 45 mins to an hour for the demonstration and is quite repetitive. You then get to go take some pictures with Wallace and Gromit, try some cheeses and see where the factory is doing their work. NOTE: The factory is closed on a weekend completely so all you see is a lot of metal trays and pipes, but nothing in action which was disappointing. I have recently discovered I have a NUT allergy so of course, avoid anything with nuts. When we got to the cheese tasting area, there are little pots with cake and cheese in them. After searching to ensure the cheeses and things do not have allergens, I found a faded sheet around the side to check for allergens. I asked as saw one item said it had peanuts and then was told by the staff member, that ONLY the chutney has any form of nuts in it and nothing else so could try everything there. This we found was untrue. We picked up a pot with the cake and cheese, and thankfully topped up before tasting anything. At the end of the counter, there is a notice that says the Fruit cake DOES contain NUTS - NOT next to the tasting pots. When we said this to the staff member, he just said - its just almonds. WE clarified, that is a NUT and you said it was only in the chutney and he just shrugged it off and went back to sorting things. We have put in a complaint to the company regarding this as it is an unsafe practice.

A Delightfully Cheesy Afternoon at Wensleydale Creamery! We recently visited Wensleydale Creamery for their Wensleydale Cheesy Afternoon Tea for Two, and what a fantastic experience it was! From the moment we arrived, the staff treated us exceptionally well—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, making our visit all the more enjoyable. The food was, unsurprisingly, a cheese lover’s dream! The Wensleydale Creamery Three Cheese Quiche was the absolute highlight—light, flavourful, and with a wonderfully thin pastry crust that melted in the mouth. The Ultimate Wensleydale Creamery Rarebit was another winner, rich and indulgent, complemented perfectly by the Chilli Chutney, which was absolutely incredible—we only wished there had been more of it! The Wensleydale Mac n Cheese, while decent, didn’t quite wow us as much as the other dishes, but the Chips were cooked to absolute perfection—crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and a perfect side to the cheesy delights. We rounded off the meal with the Yorkshire Wensleydale & Ginger Cheese Cheesecake, a beautifully rich and unique dessert that we thoroughly enjoyed. Overall, this was a fantastic experience, perfect for any cheese enthusiast. The quality of the food, the warm atmosphere, and the exceptional service make Wensleydale Creamery a must-visit. This is a superb and sensational attraction in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the town of Hawes. The visitors detail the story of Wensleydale Cheese and how started by the Monk during the Medieval Period and the cheese making process behind the famous cheese and details it in a very interactive, engaging, informative and enthralling way. There are two parts to the place with visitors going to the coffee shop, cheese shop and gift shop where you see a wonderful range of Wallace & Gromit Merchandise, Wensleydale Creamery Merchandise and other gifts and in the Cheese shop you can see a weird and wonderful range of cheese and such as Wensleydale and Blueberries and Wensleydale and Cranberries and you can enjoy a free sample of these which have a lovely light and creamy taste and texture. The other part of this place is the Cheese Experience which costs a more than reasonable £5.95 for Adults which is thoroughly enjoyable, engaging, interesting and informative where you learn more fascinating information about the history of Cheese Making in Wensleydale and how it was introduced by the Monks who came from France and how it has been through to the modern day. During the Cheese Experience you can also watch a Cheese making demonstration conducted which is excellent where they explain the processes of Cheese Making from Milk through to the final product of Cheese. After the Cheese making demonstration has finished you can wander into the second half of the Cheese Experience you can wander into the Viewing Gallery where you see the Cheese Making process first hand on the production floors and factory. In the Viewing Gallery you can see a great homage to Wallace & Gromit with knitted figures of Wallace, Gromit, Wendoline, Preston, Feathers Mcgraw, Wrong Trousers and Shaun the Sheep and also a further great display of Wallace and Gromit, Feathers Mcgraw and the Rocket from a Grand Day out and also a lovely display about Wallace & Gromits links to Wensleydale Cheese. In the Viewing Gallery there is an opportunity of tasting the cheeses that are made at the Creamery which are absolutely delicious. There is also informative small museum detailing the history of Cheese Making in Wensleydale and the Cheese Making process and you can see some interesting artefacts involved in the process, which are in great condition. The gifts shop has a delightful range of gifts at very reasonable prices and the cafe sells a range of delicious food and drink at reasonable prices. Overall this is a throughly marvellous and enjoyable which makes for an amazing and very memorable lovely day out. Well worth a visit in the Yorkshire Dales and Hawes.

Lovely day out. Interesting lots to see and learn about cheese making. Plenty of reference to Wallace and gromit and areas for children to discover. The cafe, restaurant and gift shop were all well kept, clean and inviting. Bathrooms available again all nice and clean. I bought the fruit cake and ginger version of the Wensleydale as it tasted the best to me, even if it sounds strange. Entrance was really cheap as my children were free. Quite far out to drive to, but the countryside scenery was beautiful so it didn’t matter.

Couldn't recommend more! If you are a cheese lover this is the place for you. With their generous samples of a great range of homemade cheeses and very informative and engaging demonstration on how to make the infamous Yorkshire Wensleydale, how could you not love it! Can't finish this without a huge shoutout to Tim. He was brilliant in the demonstration, had vast knowledge, could answer every question and the kids loved him!

A great time at Calvert's! The food was so tasty and tasted very homemade. But the real credit were the staff who couldn't do enough for us - and they were super friendly and helpful. I can't wait to go back

CHEESEEEE GROMIT! We watched the cheese making presentation then spent £50 on cheese. What's not to love?

Restaurant was lovely, but we were turned away from the visitor centre after travelling over two hours and arriving at 14:10. Would be good if the opening hours and overview on Google/Apple maps reflected this or we would have known to come earlier.

Good venue to visit for an education in how Wensleydale cheese is made. There's an opportunity to taste the many cheeses before buying your favourites. There is a cafe and a restaurant onsite and parking nearby.

Visited for the 1st time in over 20 years ( due to raising family) and being from Norfolk, wasn't disappointed so pleased for these people who took over when it was either dale farm or dairy crest who decided to close the site down !!! Wonderful experience and lovely staff, great day out and got my favourite supply of Wensleydale and cranberry 😁

Enjoyed the visit and very informative guide. Interesting to hear how the local community supports the factory and feeds the local economy, and they don’t ration the freebies lots to taste.

After reading great reviews I called in here on Monday March 27 2023 looking for lunch. Very pleasant and polite member of staff informed me that the restaurant is no longer open to serve daytime meals since they shut at the the end of last season

Stayed overnight in our Motorhome in the car park. Great little location no far off A66. £20 for the night which is credited to your food and/or drinks bill. Very welcoming, dogs welcome and excellent food and beer at a good price. The view is really breathtaking and we will certainly attempt to book in the next time our calendar/trip aligns. Space for 2 outfits.

Just had lunch here, had the hot beef sandwich with chips, sandwich was crammed with topside beef. Really lovely. Wife had the hot sauce chicken burger and loved it. Friends had cheese platter and prawn sandwich with Mary rose sauce. Everyone was very impressed with the quantity and quality of the food. Great friendly staff and excellent service.. we will be coming back next time we are in this area. Thank you to the staff here.
