We came for the cheese making demonstration and lunch, and if I could give it more than 5 stars I would. The demonstration was fantastic in showing a step-by-step demonstration for 30 minutes, then going to a second building to see a glimpse of the factory, taste their cheeses, learn more about the creamery's history, see the infamous Wallace & Gromit, and other kids hands on displays. The demonstration itself sat 60 people, but everything was still easy to see as they have a thoughtful setup with a camera pointed at the bowls and projected on TVs. I'd recommend getting there a little before to read the signs/objects around the room and get your preferred seat. It was very informative and a great value at £5.95 for adults. The cafe was also delicious, and extremely vegetarian friendly with all the cheese options! The restaurant was fully booked when we arrived before 12, so recommend prebooking if headed there. The cafe was also a good value, with many mains, hot drinks, and pastries on offer - along with a good countryside view. Outdoor tables also available. The shop was also decent sized, with a good assortment of Yorkshire, sheep, Wallace & Gromit, and other items available. The best part, though, was the cheese area as you can sample and buy all of the cheeses, along with other food items like chutneys or crackers. Facility wise: They have clean toilets in the shop area. The car park in front is small but there is a larger car park in the back.

Nut allergy sufferers BEWARE While in the Wensleydale area we visited the Wensleydale creamery for a visit as heard it could be good. We were disappointed but not because of the information, that was nice although quite repetitive but by how staff acted. They were friendly but dismissive of concerns. The tour is basically a few corridors into a room with a kitchen and lots of benches to watch the process, it takes about 45 mins to an hour for the demonstration and is quite repetitive. You then get to go take some pictures with Wallace and Gromit, try some cheeses and see where the factory is doing their work. NOTE: The factory is closed on a weekend completely so all you see is a lot of metal trays and pipes, but nothing in action which was disappointing. I have recently discovered I have a NUT allergy so of course, avoid anything with nuts. When we got to the cheese tasting area, there are little pots with cake and cheese in them. After searching to ensure the cheeses and things do not have allergens, I found a faded sheet around the side to check for allergens. I asked as saw one item said it had peanuts and then was told by the staff member, that ONLY the chutney has any form of nuts in it and nothing else so could try everything there. This we found was untrue. We picked up a pot with the cake and cheese, and thankfully topped up before tasting anything. At the end of the counter, there is a notice that says the Fruit cake DOES contain NUTS - NOT next to the tasting pots. When we said this to the staff member, he just said - its just almonds. WE clarified, that is a NUT and you said it was only in the chutney and he just shrugged it off and went back to sorting things. We have put in a complaint to the company regarding this as it is an unsafe practice.

A Delightfully Cheesy Afternoon at Wensleydale Creamery! We recently visited Wensleydale Creamery for their Wensleydale Cheesy Afternoon Tea for Two, and what a fantastic experience it was! From the moment we arrived, the staff treated us exceptionally well—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, making our visit all the more enjoyable. The food was, unsurprisingly, a cheese lover’s dream! The Wensleydale Creamery Three Cheese Quiche was the absolute highlight—light, flavourful, and with a wonderfully thin pastry crust that melted in the mouth. The Ultimate Wensleydale Creamery Rarebit was another winner, rich and indulgent, complemented perfectly by the Chilli Chutney, which was absolutely incredible—we only wished there had been more of it! The Wensleydale Mac n Cheese, while decent, didn’t quite wow us as much as the other dishes, but the Chips were cooked to absolute perfection—crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and a perfect side to the cheesy delights. We rounded off the meal with the Yorkshire Wensleydale & Ginger Cheese Cheesecake, a beautifully rich and unique dessert that we thoroughly enjoyed. Overall, this was a fantastic experience, perfect for any cheese enthusiast. The quality of the food, the warm atmosphere, and the exceptional service make Wensleydale Creamery a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back for more!

This is a superb and sensational attraction in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the town of Hawes. The visitors detail the story of Wensleydale Cheese and how started by the Monk during the Medieval Period and the cheese making process behind the famous cheese and details it in a very interactive, engaging, informative and enthralling way. There are two parts to the place with visitors going to the coffee shop, cheese shop and gift shop where you see a wonderful range of Wallace & Gromit Merchandise, Wensleydale Creamery Merchandise and other gifts and in the Cheese shop you can see a weird and wonderful range of cheese and such as Wensleydale and Blueberries and Wensleydale and Cranberries and you can enjoy a free sample of these which have a lovely light and creamy taste and texture. The other part of this place is the Cheese Experience which costs a more than reasonable £5.95 for Adults which is thoroughly enjoyable, engaging, interesting and informative where you learn more fascinating information about the history of Cheese Making in Wensleydale and how it was introduced by the Monks who came from France and how it has been through to the modern day. During the Cheese Experience you can also watch a Cheese making demonstration conducted which is excellent where they explain the processes of Cheese Making from Milk through to the final product of Cheese. After the Cheese making demonstration has finished you can wander into the second half of the Cheese Experience you can wander into the Viewing Gallery where you see the Cheese Making process first hand on the production floors and factory. In the Viewing Gallery you can see a great homage to Wallace & Gromit with knitted figures of Wallace, Gromit, Wendoline, Preston, Feathers Mcgraw, Wrong Trousers and Shaun the Sheep and also a further great display of Wallace and Gromit, Feathers Mcgraw and the Rocket from a Grand Day out and also a lovely display about Wallace & Gromits links to Wensleydale Cheese. In the Viewing Gallery there is an opportunity of tasting the cheeses that are made at the Creamery which are absolutely delicious. There is also informative small museum detailing the history of Cheese Making in Wensleydale and the Cheese Making process and you can see some interesting artefacts involved in the process, which are in great condition. The gifts shop has a delightful range of gifts at very reasonable prices and the cafe sells a range of delicious food and drink at reasonable prices. Overall this is a throughly marvellous and enjoyable which makes for an amazing and very memorable lovely day out. Well worth a visit in the Yorkshire Dales and Hawes.

Returned to one of our favourite places that we have been to many times over the last fifty years. The cheeses are amongst the best available anywhere BUT our visit was spoilt by dreadfully poor quality ice cream. We had four different flavours so it was not just one that was disappointing. The flavours of all of them were weak and at £4.00 per cone I expected better. I could not believe just how poor they were. We have had much better supermarket ice cream. This is a wonderful place and my advice is to stop selling ice cream if what we had was the best you can offer.

Some of the best cheese I have ever tasted, including creative combinations, such as ginger cheese. Free samples in cheese shop as well as paid guided tours throughout the day. Would thoroughly recommend!

Visited the shop last weekend. The cheese selection was amazing but very disappointed to see that the Italian bread sticks were past the best before date. Not good still at full price

Brilliant experience! A large range of cheesy tasters started the visit with over 20 flavours to choose from. There is also a brilliant museum where you can watch the workers making the cheese. Would come back every day if I could!

An interesting, well designed facility that successfully links a working cheese production with a visitor experience. The link between Wensleydale cheese and Wallace and Grommet is well exploited. The knitted replicas are very accurate and well positioned.

Well worth a visit--and not just for all of the free cheese samples that you can eat! The history of the creamery and its method of making cheese are well described--live--and one can view the factory floor. The restaurant on site is a good place to have lunch.

5 stars plus more !! Exceedingly good value !! We did the cheese making demonstration - superb. £11.90 for the two of us. Included the event was a 30 min talk/demonstration explaining how Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese is made (plenty of seating & live video coverage easy to see). Really well done, great chap thoroughly explaining it all. A view of the actual factory and the cheese being 'worked'. Cheese tasting - brilliant guy explaining about the different cheeses, where they are made etc. Lots of information boards, children's activities and play area. Parking free, no height restrictions. Then there's a gift shop, cafe and cheese shop. Again, very generous with the tasting. Toilets etc here too. We were really impressed. Tickets can be purchased up to 24 hrs before on their website, or pay at the centre. We were on the 10.15 tour, just 12 of us. The following tour looked extremely busy.

A very quiet pub when we went in, real ales were great and kept well. I did find out this pub is up for sale so maybe that is why the atmosphere was a bit lacklustre.

Stopped here en route to Northumberland. What a quaint, picturesque town! We called in for a pot of tea and scones and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There was a real homely feel to the place and the staff were super friendly. Everything was so reasonably priced too! When we next go on holiday we’ll call again if in the area. Highly recommended.

We stopped for an early evening dinner and we were impressed with the food and service. We both had starters - the panko fried black pudding and tempura fried squid. My wife thought the squid was slightly greasy but it looked and tasted good to me. We then had the lamb and pan fried sea trout which were delicious. Overall a very pleasant first visit and we look forward to returning. Thank you Sandpiper team.
