Friendly staff in this quaint old fashioned pub. Make sure to take cash as they don't accept cards.

Honestly one of the most unpleasant pubs I've been in. Beer was expensive and the whole no phones, no swearing, no fun policy made the place feel really unwelcoming, cold and like you were a subject in a dictatorship. I'm not surprised people are taking their business elsewhere. Barman forgot to charge for lime cordial and added it to the next round, which I couldn't believe he'd have to cheek to do, especially considering it was 50p, which is extortionate for 1/4 inch in the bottom of a pint glass.

A joy to be in a pub with the Sam Smith's ethics and can have a conversation without having to shout over the music and foul language. Thank you Mr Smith.

Sam Smith's next to the town centre. Usually a nice atmosphere - clientele seems to be older locals. 2 sides to the pub, bar on right (busier side) and lounge on left. Neither are big rooms, but you can usually get a seat. If you want a fire, go in the bar. The pub is nice enough, not fancy, nothing special (I'm aware of), but I always visit when I'm in Knaresborough - admittedly, I'm a Sam's fan

Jolly good Sam Smith's with nice locals and friendly bar staff. The beer is always good and of course the prices are great. Nice little beer garden at the back too, always a pleasure.

Nice pub but sadly let down by restaurant I had a steak which was all gristle served with beer battered onion rings that had been over cooked and all the onion had gone just greasy batter left. Breakfast was no better the menu said 2 perfect pouched eggs on toast I got 2 hard boiled eggs on 2 pieces of burnt toast. So would not recommend a meal from here as there seems to be no standard of what the kitchen serves

Friendly, no-frills locals' local. Cheap, well kept beer. If that's your sort of boozer, then this is well worth a short detour from the town centre.

I visited for the Mother’s Day, afternoon tea experience, on Sunday (30th 2025). This was a pre-paid experience, including a glass of Prosecco on arrival (£40 pp, which is on par with Betty’s of Harrogate prices). Held in the private dining setting, The Barrows was lovely. The young woman who came to greet us was warm and friendly, but on her own. With no one else serving, it was very apparent that she was under pressure. There were 8 tables (some with 4 people on), all seated at same time. She did her best, but there was no time for niceties. She served the tea and coffee in hot jugs, with no choice of a specialty coffee, like americano, cappuccino, and no tea pots, for a proper cup of tea. Really poor for the price we had paid!. Another girl later appeared, to help bring out the sandwich/cake bird cages. This was put down in-front of us, with a quick run down on just the sandwiches, (nothing about the miniature, 2cm width cake bites) in a very rushed and quiet voice, which my mum couldn’t hear. She then rushed off to serve the next table. No offer of any more drinks, or anything that we might have needed. The food was ‘OK’, some of the sandwiches lacked taste. Overall a poor experience which came down to poor management decisions (with staffing levels) charging drastically, inflated prices, for a poor quality experience.

Review of yesterday's chicken roast dinner. Superb. Huge portions and veg exactly as I requested. Thank you. I will continue to order. Good luck.
