We have just been to The Wellington for a family meal and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our service from Felix, Jess and Tom was superb and we were made to feel welcome from the very start of our visit. Nothing was too much trouble and we would certainly recommend The Wellington for a lovely Sunday afternoon visit: great food and great service! Thank you!

We booked for a 50th birthday celebration. There was 15 of us. Struggled to get a member of staff to look after us. Were told it was table service however waited over 15mins for drinks order on arrival and no member of staff came to take our order so gave up and ordered at the bar. Had to ask a member of staff to take food order as still no one came to attend to us. You’d think with a big table celebrating such a happy event the venue would want to look after us!! Not once did anyone ask if the food was ok or if we needed more drinks, also had to ask to order puddings! Felt like we were left to our own devices. Food was just ok, nothing outstanding. Won’t rush back!

We had family and young grandchildren visiting just over a week ago and decided to have our evening meal in our local, The Welly in Riding Mill. I can only say that the whole experience was excellent and the grandkids loved every minute. Steph and the team made us all feel very welcome, the atmosphere was warm and friendly and the kids ate all of their food...speaks for itself really! Well done to all the staff.

We had intended to go to Brockbushes cafe, but we couldn't get parked and obviously the cafe was full as there was a long queue for it out of the door! So, we looked at Google maps and saw The Wellington Hotel in Riding Mill - which was almost on our way to the Minsteracre retreat centre. We made a good choice - we received a warm welcome, were allowed to choose where to sit, and given menus. The food and service was excellent - the staff very helpful and accommodating. I had the best gammon steak I've had for a very long time. The place was neat and tidy, and quiet - in spite of the other patrons, we could hear ourselves speak! My two grand-children who were with me enjoyed their food also. Many thanks to Tom, Jess and Lucy for looking after us today!

Have visited a few times with family and always had a delicious main course. This time we decided to have desserts also. The trio of desserts consisted of eton mess, trifle and jam roly poly with custard. The Eton mess was unrecognisable as such. A sloppy pink mess on the plate with no crunchy pieces of meringue. The consistency of the custard in the trifle was more like a cheesecake and tasted strange. A tiny jug of custard with the roly poly which was very dry. Such a shame as the main courses were delicious.

2nd time coming to this place now, amazed both times! The chefs board starter to share was generous and perfect to share for the 3 of us, and the heart filling main courses didn’t fail either. This is a place I will always recommend to friends and family now, and also found out it’s dog friendly 🐶

Called for a couple of drinks on a sunny afternoon, saw the food that was being served so decided to eat there as well. Very glad we did, it was delicious. I arrived at The Wellington in what should have been the middle of a 2 hour hike however it had rained quite heavily and became cold causing my old, left hip injury to raise it's head. Despite it being Sunday lunch rush hour and fully booked indoors, I explained I needed maximum 30 minutes to recuperate with a coffee and desert and would even sit outdoors if they could provide an umbrella.Within 5 minutes the host generously cleared a bar table and recited the dessert and coffee menus for me to place an order and make a swift payment to facilitate a quick exit. The bar area was very clean and stocked with hand sanitiser, wet wipes and napkins.Within 5 minutes my espresso arrived at the table and 5 minutes after that my vanilla, chocolate and salted caramel sundae was placed in front of me. It was delightful and I will most certainly be returning very soon.

We arrived with a dog and wanted to dine, we had pre- booked but we were booked for the bar as we had a dog. However it was very noisy for dining as there were two televisions showing football- not exactly a relaxing environment for a meal. However Amy was extremely helpful without really being asked and repositioned us on a much quieter table. 20 out of 10 for Amy! She deserves promotion!

Looking for somewhere to eat last night, a Sunday evening, whilst staying in the area. We were told how good the Wellington was so got booked in reasonably early as we knew we had to be out by 10pm. Staff were good, explaining the restrictions and felt very safe, place was clean and sanitised, Four of us had starters, plain garlic bread came with cheese on, not a huge problem but early signs!ITwo steaks arrived after a half hour wait, we were warned the plates were very hot, mine was cold, as was my rump steak, fillet steak (7oz) was tiny by the time it arrived not sure how long they had been waiting. The mustard mash ordered was obviously left from the roast dinners and microwaved and very dry. The onion rings were definitely frozen ones out of a packet, not as shown on website pics, and dropped into hot oil and left to toughen up. Not sure how long the veg had been waiting to be served. The staff were made aware of my cold steak, he arranged to have a fresh one cooked. After another wait my new steak arrived, it looked medium\well done as requested but when cutting in to it it was clear it had been socially distancing from the heat as it was near enough raw in the middle. The thought of another wait was pushing our time of 10pm. I ate what I could and asked the waiter to make sure the chef was told it wasnt more than rare as he would tell by what was returned. A couple of sweets were ordered which were reasonable in comparison.A discount of free drinks and no charge for my steak was given but overall it was very poor and although an apology was given by the waiter the lady who met us at the start was nowhere to be seen. Sadly doubt we will be returning or recommending to the guests attending our daughters wedding next year.

After a family funeral in Hexham, four households descended on the Wellington. The welcome and cooperation could not have been better. The staff were careful and firm and ensured that we complied with the current social distancing guidelines, but ensured that we were made to feel at home - even when we had to move from the spacious outside eating area inside, due to rain. The meals were absolutely gorgeous - it was really hard to choose. As a highlight, the mushrooms with Stilton starter were awesome...but no one regretted their choices! Huge thanks to the team on duty.

The food is great value, the service quick and friendly, the spacing good too inside and out but there do a supper club deal that when you read the very tiny t&c's is a poor way to extract £5/diner, we didn't spot it and the waiter didn't mention it so the supper club bill went up £10 for 2 meals. They are aware of customer complaints but still not taking action, very poor. Overall a good plate of food, I had hallumi fingers and chips and the men mixed grill.

We have been to the Wellington several times before and usually enjoy it, however I am not sure how they can get Sunday lunch so wrong. The chef should be ashamed. The beef on all 4 plates has a sold lump of fat through the middle and around the edge. What little beef was there looked microwaved and curled up at the edges. The roast potatoes were swimming in grease with bits of burnt garlic, there was barely a spoonful of gravy and the stuffing was hard and dry. The veg was ok but for the price a very small portion and no honey glazed carrots in sight. We have enjoyed some good food here in the past, but on reading reviews the beef seems to be a recurrent problem that they are not learning from, we wont be back in a rush. Costly mistake and left hungry!

Disappointed with our Sunday evening meal at the wellington. We opted for a trio of meat, however the beef was uncooked and the pigs in blankets was just a plain sausage. On the plus side the desserts were delicious. As I was in the process of paying for our meal, the man who had served us all evening decided to announce to his supervisor that our table had left without paying our bill. He was about to run after my son’s, when I stepped in to advise him that he was in the middle of taken my payment before he walked off. This was rather embarrassing. Unfortunately down to poor quality of food (and lack of it) and the poor customer service, we won’t be returning.

We often eat in the Wellington and always get amazing service and great food. We have sampled both items off the bar menu as well as main menu and its always been very tasty. The pub has a great beer garden out the front perfect for food with the family.

During these unprecedented times, as restaurants begin to reopen, one of the most important factors is customer safety. Having eaten here several times since the reopening you get that safe feeling. All the tables are socially distanced in the restaurant and the beer garden, single use menus, with an option to order and pay using smartphones. Very nice one way system in operation with great organisation by David and the team.Always well looked after Helen and the rest of the restaurant staff. Plus the foods not bad either.Good job guys, we’ll done.

Lovely little pub in Northumberland. It's got a great atmosphere. The drinks are expensive for the area, this is the only negative I can think of as otherwise a log burner and staff that are friendly and a manager who was available to talk to and was friendly with our daughter who he called princess and spoke to her directly...she loved that !

We have visited the Wellington for years, and always had lovely food! I should of listened to my daughter, as a few of her friends live in the village and have said the food recently has went right down in standards. Yes they were right! (I should’ve listened!- an expensive mistake)We wasted our money today sadly, why because the Yorkshire puds were rock hard and tasted like they had been stood on the kitchen window sill for hours. The beef was fatty and overcooked and the side of cauliflower cheese tasted like the cheese sauce was from a squirty cheese tube, it was vile. And the roast potatoes were full of oil , slimy and disgusting not what a roastie should be like.... It was really poor and not enjoyable. On the plus the staff were friendly as ever. But sadly, I’m sorry Welly, we won’t be calling back for food again.

Quiet Birthday Celebration - we booked up for a nice family get together for my birthday and loved our evening. We were served by Dean and Steph who made sure we had everything we needed. Our food arrived prompt & piping hot. It was lovely. The deserts were to die for. A very pleasant place with lovely staff. Well worth a visit. Would highly recommend and will definitely be going again.

Tucked away in the Tyne Valley off the A69 just before the Styford Roundabout traveling from Newcastle upon Tyne, in the lovely village of Newton. The hotel was well decorated with modern amenities and a homely atmosphere. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The food was delicious and well presented. My wife and I were travelling with our black Labrador and the staff were very helpful in providing a table for our meals in the bar area.We would certainly be happy to return to the Wellington in the future.Thanks.

My partner and I called into the pub after short country walk for light snack.Sorry to say, wish we had not bothered, the young lady and chap who served me were very nice and pleasantPartner tried baked potatoe with prawns marie sauce, and salad.Prawns were totally bland, and the two salad leaves a joke,no onions, tomatoes,a few bits sweetcorn etc, would have been nice.I had chicken burger, with chips, mmmmHad better.Such pity, nice surroundings, nice staff, but food not so good.Would not visit again.

Absolutely awful. Offering the traditional roasts with slim trimmings and bits on the side.I plumped for the mouth watering described Trio of Roasts.Honey glazed Hammond with crackling, top side of beef and Turkey breast. Apple sauce etc. What rocked up..microwave even tepid was 3 small thin slices of asst meat ..chewy bloody beef, pre sliced turkey and a slice of bacon. No apple sauce, a dusting of gravy, an oversized Yorkshire pudding that had been microwaved to a rubbery texture that required a steak knife, a scattering faded 're heated veg..pre chopped.I 've had better school dinners in the 1970s. Sad and depressing big standard thoughtless pub grub. Never ever again..and poor value for money.

Booked in for a family of 4 no problem at all. Arrived and was shown our seats, lovely place. Very warm and cosy I thought yes this is a good choice. We ordered Sunday lunch two children, two adults. A member of staff spoke to us about the problem with the Yorkshire puddings. Wasn't a big deal but nice to be told. Dinner came quick enough. Two turkey and two beef. Beef was a tad fatty but that was the only down point. Dinner was beautiful, service was brilliant and we were asked if everything was OK and it was. Desert came with our coffee. Perfect was to end our lunch. My daughter being her usual self tried all of our deserts and loved them. Gold stars for that haha. Just booked for valentines day. Can't wait. Perfect lite pub, nice staff and a beautiful location. Don't judge this place by the comments.... X

£35 . RIP OFF 2 MEDIUM COKES 2 SOUPS 2 BEEF DINNERS We left the beef because it was so fatty and chewy . Tasted like it was frozen veg and cold carrots..Yorkshire puddings were soggy. Like they had been microwaved. . DISAPPOINTED . .

Just had Sunday lunch at this pub and it was by far, the worst I’ve ever had. I made a booking, earlier this morning, but when I got there, they had no record of the conversation I’d had. Luckily there were plenty of free tables, so we were still able to eat there......We both ordered roast topside of beef. Among other things, the menu stated that this should be accompanied with horseradish sauce, minted baby potatoes and sausage meat stuffing - all were missing. The beef was covered in fat, which I couldn’t cut through. It was inedible and we made the staff aware of this. The vegetables it was served with were obviously frozen, rather than fresh....To be fare to the waitress, she did bring more beef, which was better and also removed both meals from the bill, but were unable to eat the food.

We came up in the afternoon, the pub was in a lovely location and it was nice inside, the smell of the coal fire was way over powering to point where you could see smoke under the lights at one point. Not good.

We stopped by chance at The Percy Arms for a drink and ended up eating an amazing meal-Wednesday afternoon and very quiet but the food was delicious and the service excellent. The soup was very tasty and the steak cooked to perfection - we will return!

I’m so sad to see this lovely place closed. It had great staff and atmosphere and a fantastically good smoked haddock chowder. I wish its people all the best and I thank them for all the great visits we’ve had here. I really hope that there might be a replacement cafe of such quality. We’ll watch with interest.

Our introduction to this country pub was to a spacious, comfortable, immaculately clean bedroom, with stunning views of the fells. Next dinner and cooking of Michelin quality. A highlight was the scallop with belly pork, a brilliant dish. Next morning breakfast, again flawless in every respect from the service to the produce. Any prospective dining pub owner/chef should come here to see how it's done.

Generous portions of tasty pub food and some excellent local cask beer. The warmest of welcomes for me and Razzie the border terrier and a special shout out to Adele for looking after me so well!
