Travelling north on the A74(M) we called at the Abington services at Junction 13 for a short break. Thankfully it was a dry day and we were able to see, and navigate around, the numerous potholes on the roadway into the car parking area. If you value your car tyres don't visit these services, especially if it's been raining a lot.

At the entrance to these services there is a large sign warning of pot holes in the roads. Looks like it’s been there for a while. Unfortunately as the roads were flooded in the heavy rain I hit a deep pothole which was not visible but caused a very hard knock to the car. A couple of days later the sidewall of my (fairly new) tyre split, which according to the RAC technician was probably caused by hitting a pothole - I’d not hit any others in recent weeks. Fortunately I wasn’t on the motorway when this happened. So the moral of the story I think is not to stop at these services until they fixed the potholes.

We called for breakfast at THE GOOD BREAKFAST in Abington Services. This was our second visit, this time on the return leg of our trip. A large and clean dining area and an open serving counter. The staff were a mixed bunch from the excellent “Frances” who was friendly and efficient and couldn’t have been better. She’s a credit to The Good Breakfast. To the dour and sullen “Darren” who clearly wasn’t a people or customer services person. The full breakfast was nice and cooked well. Worth a visit on a long journey for sure.

I came looking for copper and I found gold. I had a Burger King for my dinner, more specifically a Whopper! It was very messy but that just added to the experience! The chips were just absolutely fantabulous, and my coca cola I had to throw out because I was on a time limit (I drank half of it and the first half was bangin') I liked this place and its a very good end to a 20-hour day! I also watched instagram reels and found funny fish that looks like Willem Dafoe.

Pretty disgusting!!! Parked near the Tesla charging stations and went to the “picnic” tables behind them. Many broken, lots of litter including a broken set of teeth on a plate!😱🤢 Building going on at the service station and toilets and showers are portaloos. However all things considered these were quite clean. One to avoid I’d say!!

We stayed at the 'Days Inn' thinking the adjacent services would provide an acceptable evening meal and breakfast. Nope Evening was a choice of Burger King, Starbucks for Chopstix. As the Chopstix dishes looked like they had been sitting there for awhile, and experience has taught us that Starbucks can be expensive, without actually getting a lot, Burger King it was. It has been many years since I ventured into a Burger King. By mistake I thought the combined deal made sense. The middle part of the burger was very nice. Basically where the main part of the burger was. The edges were very much quite a bit of bread, with hopefully some of the outer part of the burger. I felt conned. The fries were a waste of time. Typical of why I have hardly gone into an American style fast food outlet. They were barely warm and tasteless. Still at least I was no longer hungry. Needless to say I shan't rush back. Then in the morning was The Good Breakfast Company. There was a £9 breakfast which looked good, with a a voucher from the hotel. But as I am no fan of bacon I opted for there smaller, traditional £8. The lay behind the till kindly exchanged the bacon for a sausage. It was lovely. I enjoyed it. It was good to see the eggs were being cooked at the front. In fact I had to go to sit and wait while it was put together. I warm to that. I was asked if I wanted toast. I assumed it came with it. So when the meal came with a coffee and a bill 0f £12.75, I was surprised. Next motorway stop I would have it again, but be carefully what each item cost. There certainly should have been an easily visible price list.

Quite rundown I’m afraid. The breakfast choices were limited to something out of a WHSmith or a breakfast cafe which we chose. Two breakfast baps and two coffees was a hefty £17 but the food was good and the portions were good. Staff were nice. In this services, the ladies toilets smelled terrible! Not of recent deposits but of urine, like you’d smell in an alleyway. I doubt we’ll choose this as a resting point again.

WHSmith in Welcome Break AVOID!!.. I have never had worse customer service in my life! We are staying at the hotel and was sitting talking on the benches outside. One of the staff members came out from the back of WHSmith and very rudely and aggressively started swearing and shout at us (with kids under the age of 10). Stating she was going to call the f****** police on us if we don’t shut up. This is outrageous as we were not being loud and was sitting simply talking. I politely asked for the woman’s name because I wanted to make a complaint on the way she spoke to us all, in which she replied, “You’re not getting it, and I don’t give a s***!” She then stormed back into the store slamming the back gate in my face. I went in through the entrance and again politely asked for her name and yet she was still being extremely rude and aggressive. I explained to the woman, if she had any issues with us she could of dealt with it in a polite manner, but she did not seem to care what I had to say. I have never been so disappointed and unsatisfied with a service. This woman should not be allowed to deal with the public with the horrendous attitude problem she has. I was sworn at. I was screamed at. My kids were screamed and sworn at. I didn’t receive her name but took a photo of the woman. Disgraceful.

Travelling to Scotland on a very windy and wet day we decided to stop for a break at these services. Food choices were burgers or fish and chips. There’s a Starbucks but the smallest coffee is as big as a bucket the muffins were tasteless and so hard they were probably stale. The system for getting served is definitely not fast we only had two coffees and two muffins which took nearly twenty minutes to serve. For this it cost just short of £11.00 which is ridiculous. When service stations first opened it was always accepted that prices should be higher because they weren’t easy to staff but in this day and age staff have transport and the service areas aren’t that inaccessible like they were originally. Travelling this route again we would give these services a miss there are plenty of places not far from the motorway that offer better food and more competitive prices. There is also a WH Smith shop where a single bottle of water cost at least £1.80 everything seems to be dearer in this shop crisps sweets and chocolate are all sold at inflated prices.

I reviewed this establishment a few years ago and I rated it as really poor, however this was before the refurbishment where they brought in some some big brands to improve the quality and service (Harry Ramsdens, Starbucks etc). Then almost overnight the quality and service really improved. I am sad to say that this lasted only for about six months, then the standards started dropping again (food quality and service). Now almost two years or more later it did not surprise me that on our latest visit Burger King could not offer burgers as the machine was broken. The chips in Ramsdens are clearly reheated and fish is not to the same standard as it once was. Overall overpriced and under delivers.

Stopped here to grab some food on the way back down south following a 2 week holiday in Scotland. The food was in line with what you'd expect from a Burger King chain, but the service was way off the mark.We were served by a young blonde guy - and he was sullen, rude and unhelpful. He tutted at me as I took a few seconds to consider my drink choice. Didn't smile at us once. Drummed his fingers whilst I asked my son whether he wanted a burger with or without cheese. Then got our order wrong, which when I pointed it out to him told me that wasn't what I had ordered - despite the fact that I recited my request word-for-word from the menu above his head. When I pointed to the meal I had ordered and said that's the one I requested, he said 'no you didn't', turned his back on me and walked away. I didn't have he energy to argue, particularly as we'd waited 10 mins for the food in the first place. However management at this centre should take a long hard look at their staff - I am sure there are plenty of other individuals in the team who could provide a more pleasant experience for customers.

Harry Ramsden's Full English Breakfast is great. I am no fan of this company, having eaten fish and chips at their original place in Guiseley and the franchising does not appeal to me. NBut breakfast was great - just watch out for being offered extras (e.g. toast, fried bread) at extra cost.

We stopped here to use the toilet and have some lunch on May 9th 2016 during our journey from Kirkcaldy to Penrith. The gents toilets were not very clean at all. The urinals' drains were coated in rust, and the floor was rather wet. A generous amount of basins were provided in the handwashing area but the soap dispenser was empty and the tapwater was boiling hot (there is no sign warning of the heat). Hand dryer was fantastic (Dyson Airblade Vs are my personal favourite :D).Ordered a 'bacon double cheeseburger' from Burger King and it tasted fantastic, but had to wait a good twenty minutes at the counter. Ate it on one of the outdoor picnic benches (it happened to be one of the hottest days of 2016 so it was pleasant) which was chipped and scruffy. The indoor foodcourt was absolutely filthy, with previous customers' waste everywhere. Couldn't see any staff cleaning tables! There was also a lot of wasps coming in through the door, and nobody made an effort to swat them (a real risk for someone with wasp allergies)Overall, I am pretty impressed with Abington (apart from the cleanliness!), and have scheduled another stop here in May because of the convenient location.

This is the first time we've been back since it was refurbished although it used to be a regular stop-off for us travelling south. We were very disappointed. The facilities are basic and the food no better than average. Best to avoid if possible.

Stopped off hear for a cuppa and loo stop. It served its purpose. They've made changes since I was last here by introducing a harry ramsdens instead of generic cafe. Also has a costa, a Burger King and a WH Smith.

Called in here for lunch on 23rd February. Ordered and paid for meal then hung about while another chap took my meal and when questioned advised me the staff hadn't a scoobie! How right he was but not only that since then I have been mucked about by both Ramsdens and Welcome Break staff although to be fair Welcome Break come over as particularly thick especially Lyndsay Ann whose customer care skills are not great. Ramsdens keep offering my money back and vouchers that I'll never use as I'll never set foot in a Ramsdens again. All I wanted was an apology.......still waiting!

Parked over night and had a £9 meal voucher to spend on food, so I chose Harry Ramsden's. The young man serving (25/02/17 ..2025 hrs) was polite and could not of been any more helpful, when he saw I was paying with a voucher he advised getting the large cod and chips with mushy peas and a coffee at £8.99 as that way I got the most out of my voucher. The cod was freshly fried as I waited and was the best tasting cod I've eaten, in fact the whole meal was totally enjoyable and I've of happily paid the £8.99 out of my own pocket if I hadn't had a meal voucher. I'm not normally a fan of service station food and there prices, but on this occasion I was impressed.

How nice to stop and have to option to eat fish and chips at Harry Ramsdens and doughnuts from Papa Johns. Still the option of Burger King or picking something up from WHSmiths. The lady who served us at HR was lovely and the food was really nice. The toilets were clean and looked after. Just what you want for a motorway stop.

Just passing through on way down from the Highlands, had been driving for hours on not much sleep and just wanted hot food and coffee.Weird place with some unlikely choices Papa Johns Pizza and Harry Ramsden's Fish & Chips to name a couple.Burger King had sold out of what I wanted so ended up with a Pizza which was ok.Didn't really like what was on offer but it would do at a push, won't stop here again though personally.

Arrived at welcome break for night, rooms and staff nice. Went next door to burger king food was very poor. Chicken burger cold, only the chips were hot. In morning went to harry Ramsden's for breakfast, wish we haddened. A waste of £20!!!! The only items freshly cooked are the eggs, everything else was cold and very tasteless, poor quality as well as being cold . Expected much better from Harry Ramsden's. Won't be stopping here again.

I know they say don't expect much from the service station but this one takes the biscuit.Pulled in as we were travelling down from seeing family in the north. Was initially only popping in for a drink to keep us going but thought might as well get a bite to eat then stick on the road. Wished we had never bothered. Went to order a pizza from the Papa John's. Had to tell the staff member there was wasps on the donuts at the counter. His solution was just to simply waft it away. I told him it had on at least 4 of the donuts nut was ignored. Decided against the pizza especially after being told it would be 20 minutes. My other half had chips and fish from Harry Ramsden. He sat down to wait as told by the staff. To be fair these were nice but because nobody called out the order or brought it out he spotted it on the side 15 minutes later getting cold.Meanwhile I waited 15 minutes to be served at the Burger King. Then had to wait another 10 minutes for an overpriced under cooked tasteless chicken burger. Only saving grace was the fries which were nice but the size of the portion would have been polished off in two minutes by my two year old nephew. To finish of the toilets were filthy, and the grocery store severely over priced (£3 for a bag of sweets).Think we'll die of thirst next time.....

We called in here on our way back from a weekend down South with my wheelchair bound mum - and wished we had kept driving. We opted to order fish and chips at the Harry Ramsden's and were told there would be a 10 minute wait. That's OK but we were expected to sit and wait and listen for someone shouting out our order - an impossible task given the noise levels in the dreadful seating area and we were in the closest seat - only about five yards away. We had to just keep an eye out for our order through the throng of others standing in front of us doing the same - tricky given that everyone was basically having fish and chips. The place must just be badly deigned for noise because it wasn't that busy but you could not hear yourself think. The food was passable. Accessibility was OK apart from the disabled bays being further away than the electric bays and there being more of them. We parked in an electric bay - so there!

Food was not good. It was cold and tasted of chemicals. Not going back. Service was ok although they didn't seem to know who was doing what.

Delivery staff rude & unprofessional, mozzarella dippers could tan a window they were that solid & a Macintosh microwave macaroni would put the shambles that appeared in the wrap to shame. Over all diabolical 👍🏽

Been here a few times now, foods good, quite clean but for the customer service? Where do i even get started with this, for starters the staff are just blatantly rude, making complaints about ur order infront of you, never have enough stock in, come here for my usual all the time and am normally told they don’t have ham or something. When I walk in the door I am normally greeted with someone telling me there’s no chips, which by the way how do u know if I want chips? Sort ur staff.
