Really nice pub, great atmosphere, good honest tasty food at reasonable prices. Staff really friendly and polite. Very dog friendly. Pool and darts available. Park up for the night in a motorhome, no one minds.

I call in the Wayfarers bar alot when up in lochinver, Ken and Sheila the owners are lovely people but for the past two years have been worried sick about COVID, they took the most amazing covid safety precautions I've ever seen and why not there not only protecting themselves and there staff but us lot too, people got asked a hell of a lot to wear there masks but it seemed the rules didn't apply to them, I've seen first hand how people forget because I did it also, without the culag hotel and Wayfarers bar lochinver would be empty, the owners and staff will help you with anything if you only ask I highly recommend this Highland hospitality because it's real and honest.

(This took place in June 2021, however, I have only just noticed my review was not placed as my original review did not comply with community guidelines) Doing the NC 500, freezing cold rainy day whilst camping so we decided to go the only pub available in the area. The woman serving us was nice and polite but the bloke behind the bar was unnecessarily hostile from the moment we walked in. Beer was nice and it’s a nice little pub, had a few games of darts. This bloke was the CEO of Covid police. I understand people are cautious but my friend stood up from the bench to let another friend get up to the toilet and in the fraction of a second it took for him to stand up and sit down the bar man was shouting over at him to sit down. We weren’t the only people to receive this treatment. A few other tables had also had a telling off. He seems to hate tourists even though his livelihood most likely relies on the tourism the NC500 brings. Would have definitely went to another pub if there was one.

Such a great place. Interior design does not feature high on the list of priorities but great drinks, welcoming locals, a great juke box and fantastic service (care of Angie) means its the best place in town (or village ?) Oh and did I say the beef and guiness pie is sublime too.

When so many places require bookings in advance and are very quick to turn you away during these times ….this place that we would have classified as a last resort was anything but. The waitstaff were warm and were genuinely welcoming. The drinks order was taken quickly and brought to our table along with the dinner menu. The beef and Guinness pie totally hit the spot, accompanied with potato, carrots and peas. The beef gravy was the final touch to a very tasty and comforting meal. I then had three scoops of a variety of flavors of ice-cream. This meal that was presented with a smile brought a much needed warmth to what was a cold and wet day.

Literally one step over the threshold before the barmaid was screaming at me for not wearing a mask when she herself wasn't wearing one and nor was anyone else in the place. Finally managed to get served after an overly complicated form-filling exercise and didn't even get a thanks. Five minutes later the manager was out yelling at the group of four at the table next to me because they dared close the front door as they were sitting in a draught. Full on rant that lasted an awkward good few minutes in front of everyone in the place. Don't know why they sat there and took it. I was going to order food but finished my drink and left after that. Absolutely miserable pair running it. Says it all that none of the people in the only bar open in town on a Saturday night were locals. Don't know how the place survives. Looking at the reviews below it's not unusual. Horrible pair and looks like it's not been touched since the 1970's. It's a real shame as there is nowhere else at this time of year and Lochinver needs something open at night. Didn't make me want to stay in town another night with them being the only option so moved on next day. They are doing Lochinver a real disservice, everywhere else during the day had been really friendly and welcoming. Needs to be taken over by someone who cares about the business.

Never experienced such an unwelcoming experience in a bar as this. I don't know if it was because we were English, but it felt like we were targeted by the very unpleasant female bar tender from the moment we entered. This then resulted in being chastised very disrespectfully for a momentary oversight of the bar's COVID instructions, only to see other customers not to be (and in actual fact welcomed despite blatantly not following instructions), it is hard to draw any other conclusions. It was ironic to see a life ring emblazoned with the name Sea Witch on the wall! Safe to say we drank up and left.

We had the misfortune of eating here during our stay in Lochinver. We have never experienced anything like it. Firstly there are no instructions as to what we needed to do, such as go to the bar, fill in the track and trace. The staff have no oomph, it’s like they don’t want to be there, let alone provide a pleasant service to their customers. I can only describe our visit as painful!! There is no ambiance, no character, the atmosphere was terrible. Other customers were silent, the dining room was cold and needs modernising, it smells of damp, the food was ok, but we left never wanting to go back again! Such a shame as Lochinver is a lovely place and the building itself looked lovely from the outside, but what a huge disappointment when you actually go in. Dull, tired and needs uplifting. It looks like the place hasn’t been decorated or had new curtains and carpets in decades. Surely if you want a business to be successful, you would employ staff who actually want to work and to make your customers have a great experience???? Crazy as I have never experienced anything like it.

The food served in the Hotel attached is far and away the best in Lochinver. The menu is a wee bot small at the moment, but if you like everyday excellent food then this is the place for you. The pub is great as well, they take the COVID restrictions seriously and have put a lot of effort into this with screens between tables etc. They will also take your contact details before they serve you, so don;t get stroppy when asked to do this as they are doing is a legal requirement. Great work and thanks for being one of the best places for food and drink in the Highlands.

My friends and I were on holiday from Glasgow completing the NC500. We arrived in Lochinver on the day of the England v Germany match excited to watch the game and enjoy some food and drinks. We arrived at 1645 and went to the Wayfarers' Bar only to find it didn't open till 1700. Instead we decided to go to An Cala cafe which was exemplary. The food quality and portion sizes were excellent and the staff were very friendly. This was in grave contrast to our experience of the Wayfarers' bar where we went after. The barman is condescending and obnoxious. My friends and I walked in, I asked him if we could sit at the free table at the back of the bar and was impolitely told to "wait outside until I decide if I am going to serve you." We waited in the reception area adjacent to the main bar of the pub and before we could even discuss what had happened the barman was shouting at me for taking my mask off even though we were standing in a large open space next to two open doors with no one else within 10m of us. He insisted we stand outside instead of the empty reception area even though there were no signs stating this. As we mulled over whether to stay for more of his award-winning hostelry, he came back out and told us there was one table available that he would give us on the condition that we forfeited the table immediately should the people who reserved the table turn up. He then told us we weren't allowed to leave the table and only one person could go to the bar and would be served once we had completed a Covid form. Form completed and handed in, he went to the trouble of putting his glasses on before spending several minutes scrutinising it before noting there were 4 postcodes on the form and the limit on households was 3. At this point we had enough and walked out. With the constantly changing restrictions it has been very difficult to keep up with the latest guidance and this had been a simple oversight on our part. His behaviour throughout this visit was rude, belligerent and his reaction to 4 postcodes at 1 table attending his establishment was as if we had soiled his bar (which would have complemented the decor nicely). Instead, we watched the second half of the match in the hire car on our phones which not only had a much better ambience, it also ensured that we didn't put a single penny in his till. I struggle to believe that anyone has had anything other than a negative experience at the Wayfarers' bar and I can only presume the bar is propped up by locals. Unless you actively enjoy being spoken to like a disobedient child by a troglodyte, then avoid Wayfarers' bar. I can only hope that the profligate attitude of this pub towards potential customers and the economic impact of Covid-19 results in the Wayfarers' barman getting his jotters.

The restaurant is a misearble, dour old palce with no character and zero atmosphere. The food was very mediopcre and perhaps, worst of all, the waitress was grumpy and sullen. Definitely wouldn't recommend.

We had meals at most of the places in Lochinver during our stay. We found this to be the most "local" feeling and the least touristy. This is a very spacious bar/pub, with plenty of seating, and decor has not been updated in a few decades (and so seems quite... quirky). We felt very comfortable and had a relaxing drink and meal here. Service was exceptionally friendly and welcoming - more so than anywhere else we had meals in Lochinver. Prices were very low - bar menu was what you would typically expect, ingredients were surprisingly fresh and well-prepared, and portions were plentiful. We were more than happy with our experience here and didn't feel in any rush to leave. No airs and graces, no pretensions about this place - just comfortable, friendly, cheap and cheerful, with nice pub food.

This Country Hotel lacks love and attention. Outside front and sides are very tall weeds, the flower boxes were full of wilted. Car park resembles a quary.. On entering the dining room was well presented albeit I felt it chilly . Only 3 diners and we had to wait to see if we would be accommodated. We were..we sat at our table and the really lovely young server took our order limited menu and 3 choices off that evening.. Food was just OK...not value for money @ £17.95 for haddock and chips. Overall not the greatest.. I'd love to see the outside tidied up and give the hotel some road side appeal

Staying at the nearby Dornoch Caravan and Camping site we walked into Dornoch for a meal. We chose The Coach House because it is dog friendly. We received a warm welcome by staff and locals alike along with their dogs. Our haddock and chips arrived promptly and were delicious. However, our Westie started making a fuss. One of the locals and then a member of staff offered to “dog sit” so we could enjoy our meal. Exceptional! Thanks to all involved.

Had to ask for coffee to be decanted into a clean cup. New cup had a big chip on the rim. The toilets were horrible. Wet seat as its a unisex toilet. Walls and exposed pipework just dirty .I expect much better when paying so much for a cup of coffee.
