Parmo,s spot on very nice meal tonight

Great pub food. Black Sheep kept beautifully. The Landlord is a real character. We were very well looked after. We visited on a quiet weekday evening, hence the 3 stars for atmosphere. Don't be put off by this - it is, after all, a country pub with little built-up area nearby.

Amazing carvery! Really tasty and good quality. Very friendly staff and quick service! Out the way a bit but worth it for a good meal out!

My wife and I had just finished our holiday away at primrose valley with the grandchildren. The good wife decided we were hungry 😁. Einy meine myni mo. Which pub do we go??. We were so glad that we decided on the Waterwheel. Food was great. Staff were great. Thanks a bunch.

Food was delicious and staff were lovely

Came for the first time on a first date. It was extremely quite, but this was preferred due to ill health. The staff were very welcoming and cheerful. Although I wish the lovely young lady had a bit more confidence when speaking- as sometimes it was very muffled. The starters were absolutely amazing. We had breaded mushrooms, and creamy garlic mushrooms. Came out very fast and served very hot!!!! The side salad was wasted so maybe ask if people want it with or without. The table was cleared promptly and we didn't have to wait long for mains. We had 6oz gammon, and 10oz rump steak. The plates came out piled up! The gammon was cooked lovely but slightly to salty (and I love salt) The chunky chips were a bit to dry and the downfall of the full meal. And again the salad was wasted. The rump was asked to be a medium/rare, but was more medium. Staff did ask if the meat was OK, but it hadn't been tried at that moment as we'd not long started to eat. Again the chips weren't really entertained, but the mushrooms and onion rings were nice. And you definitely get your moneys worth. Our full meal with 2 alcoholic drinks was less than £60, although we paid that for the hospitality. We did notice a big open log fire and would definitely return again to sit near the fire and probably order an array of starters. All in all I would definitely recommend.

We’re staying in an air bnb in the village as attending a wedding in the area. After a long day yesterday at said wedding we spent the day blowing off the cobwebs in Whitby. Struggling to agree on dinner I said I really fancy a lasagne but being gluten free this is never available when eating out. Wasn’t sure the pub in the village did food but thought I’d double check and lo and behold first listing on the menu GF lasagne! Took it as a sign from the heavens and booked in. Everything was delicious, fresh and the portions HUGE! Staff very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend

Stumbled across this place on the way home from Whitby , had 2 mains it was the most delicious food ,barman and staff so polite and really reasonable price would definitely recommend

Great pub with a nice selection of food and drinks. I was dubious going in as it looked quite grey from the outside but we had a lovely time. The guy serving us was very chatty and welcoming. I’d definitely recommend it.

I don’t think I will ever eat again! Currently trying to fight off a food coma. Fantastic food and portions that could make any glutton (like myself) beg for a break. Quality and quantity in abundance. Service was top notch too, friendly, welcoming and quick.

The petrol station in Saudi Arabia that serve road kill, had more atmosphere and the food had more flavour.

Awful food, all the meat was frozen had no taste at all. Atmosphere was like hills have eyes. Staf where lovely but it doesn't change the fact a primary school dinner was better quality. Sports direct straws great touch 👍

Good value home cooked food. Warm Welcome and a fabulous menu choice including home cooked children’s food. Good portion sizes and good value. Will definitely return !

The Gluten Free Parmo was amazing, best I have ever had. The Chef has a good knowledge of Gluten Free. We have always had an excellent meal at this pub. The staff are excellent too.

A first class Sunday lunch served on nice hot plates.! The staff are so friendly and polite. Plenty of parking with accesss for the less mobile presenting no issues. Well worth a visit.

Me and partner Went here earlier in year .enjoyed the food then .this time there was 9 of us plus 3 dogs .booked day before came to our table for 9 and had the Sunday carvery .Ian and staff looked after us the chef cut the meat like we was having last meal very large portions ,everyone enjoyed there’s plus the staff were very attentive .beef turkey pork ,6 different vegs roasters mash Yorkshire puddings various sauces apple cranberry horse raddish .gravy boats were brought out nice touch ,asked for more and we got 👏👏.my friends were all filled and happy thanks to all the staff and we will vist again

Been on holiday for a week local to the water wheel, eaten here 3 times had some lovely meals from steak to curry . Would recommend dining here .

Have been here a few times now for Sunday lunch and I have to say the food has been lovely every time. Veg and meat are always cooked freshly and perfect and gravy is very tasty. Only criticism is gravy could be a bit thicker. Staff are very friendly and nothing is to much trouble, even for fussy eaters like myself.

We visited this evening after a terrible experience at Skelton mill. I rang ahead and the girl advised us what time the food service stopped (8pm) and that there was a table available for us but as they had a big table in it may be a little wait. We didn’t mind and headed straight for the place. On arrival we were greeted by a lovely young girl, nice and friendly who took our drinks order and then seated us with menus. There wasn’t really a wait the service was brilliant and a lot quicker than I expected. My hubby ordered a parmo, I opted for steak and ale pie and out little boy had nuggets and chips. It didn’t take long for the food to come. Wow, there was loads. We couldn’t eat it all which was a shame as it was really good food, the pie was lovely, the meat really nice and the chips, home cooked and really nice. I hate to leave anything on my plate but it was just way too much so we all ended up leaving a lot. We spoke to the landlord on leaving, he was really nice and friendly, the bill was less than £50 for 3 meals and 3 drinks, worth it for the excellent quality. As we walked out some ladies sat out the front smiled and said good night which was really nice as sometimes you can feel a little like an outsider. Not here. Would highly recommend the place.

We have eaten at the Water Wheel for the last two evenings. Absolutely lovely food, the service from Chloe, Ian and others was great. We would highly recommend and will be back!

I will start with the positives. The food (carvery) wasn't too bad not great but enjoyable enough albeit the beef yeah tasty enough but a bit dry. The vegetables yeah OK some a bit overcooked I.e the broccoli but again had worse but also a hell of a lot better. The mash was good the roasties were OK decent stuffing balls and nice proper mushy peas. Decent enough gravy and yeah I ate it all as I was hungry but I felt a bit underwhelmed with the whole experience. Two of us had deserts which were good a and a decent size portion too. The girls were pleasant enough but not much interaction to be honest. The negatives The landlord did have a bit of interaction with me at payment stage but I will be honest he is probably a top bloke but I sensed he was stressed and ran off his feet. I rang for a table and said to my wife he was a little short with no welcoming telephone manner. I expect that as a minimum especially when we are driving 20 ish miles for a Sunday lunch. I had to ring back to add another person it took 2 attempts to get through again no proper interaction just matter of fact words. The staff seem unmotivated granted they were mostly young and apparently understaffed and yes it was busy but people are.paying good money for food and the whole experience should be better. The Chef carving my god he just did not want to be there you could just tell, no craic no interaction at all. Prob the least interested chef or cook I have ever met. A smile a hello goes a long way. The weather was awful outside it felt like it was raining on him. He was busy enough mind but food wise the Yorkshire puddings were tiny and a big disappointment for a carvery in North Yorkshire. However this was good for a reason .....the plate size oh my god where do you get the plates from Fisher Price ??? They are tiny, the idea of a carvery is you can fill your plate up with plenty of food get the gravy on and enjoy the experience. I couldn't even put any cabbage 2 types on my plate or leeks. There just isn't any room. Is this a.cost cutting measure. ??? The place is a typical country pub but looks dated and dirty in places and the tables were a bit sticky though. This place could be absolutely fantastic, but I feel its list its magic and sparkle. Will I return soon ? Probably not because it was expensive for what it was and definitely left me with a feeling of poor value overall. I just want to say this is not meant to be a personal attack on anyone but, the place needs to get its sparkle back before its too late.

Called in while holidaying in Moorsholm one Sunday, it was carvery only but very satisfactory, pleasant staff & atmosphere, average prices, recommended.

Staying locally for our holiday we have now dined at the Water Wheel twice. The food on both occasions has been excellent with large portions and the staff very friendly. Will be returning I’m sure before the week is out!!

Food was horrible will never go there again

I can honestly say that me and my partner had 2 of the best Parmo's we have ever had anywhere, which came with lovely chips and a dressed salad ! They were absolutely gorgeous and tasty , currently at a special price of £8 ! Pretty big they are too ! We took the dog and he didnt get as much as he normally does because I ate the lot !

Visited today for a carvery and must say it was the worst carvery I have ever visited, previously visited a number of years ago and it has changed massively.. Food was terrible, cold yorkshire puddings, veg very poor quality, over done and very mushy - overall very bland and tasteless The gravy was terrible not sure you could even call it gravy to be honest. Service was very poor, served people first who where seated after us, never once come to see if everything was OK in the end we left majority of food and paid the bill which was wrong but paid anyway. Outside of building very run down - safe to say really disappointed and wouldn’t recommend - wont be visiting again!

Went to a wedding reception there a week or so ago. Ian and his crew could not have looked after us better and their carvery was excellent.

We had our mother's day meal and although it was very busy it was worth the wait. Staff were really friendly and helpful. The food was unreal and the quality and quantity of meat amazing. The carvery chef was fab very chatty.

even though I had booked well in advance, we still had a 45 min wait to be seated, (with my disabled mum) then when seated it was in the bar where dozens of people where stood waiting also, therefore a very awkward and uncomfortable atmosphere, the food (carvery) was substandard at best, and was very little on offer, most of my family left still hungry and extremely disappointed, and after such a long wait stood up my poor mum asked to go home, so didn't touch her meal, when I complained to staff they didn't really know how to deal with the situation, but was offered no form of discount for such a disappointing experience,on booking the meal for 8, I was informed by the manager I would have to pay a ten pounds fee in advance, which I verbally agreed, but then he took £80 out of my account, extremely unprofessional.

Had 40 min wait even those they was letting people go before us and they reserved there's table later than us. We had our disabled mam with us and they put us near the door were all The people was getting served at the bar...

Taking a large group we were warmly welcomed. Ordering our food was efficient and the dishes were terrific. Everyone enjoyed their food and said the chef must be marvelous. Its a great place to eat good homemade food.

Super pub food, relaxing atmosphere, friendly, fast service. Very good main menu but also an excellent value midweek - see photo below. Will be back next time we are holidaying on the North East coast

When you have been to the oven I don't think anywhere is as good, and it's spoilt you for everywhere else, but this place was quite low in my opinion, food was just warm even though we were right near the food. no atmosphere but the staff were lovely.

We visited today for Sunday carvery, the place is lovely and staff and owner were very friendly, I had turkey and it was beautiful, but what let it down was the vegetables and the gravy, the vegetables were so over cooked they were tasteless and the gravy also had no taste.

Starters ok main meal poor and expensive. Complained to landlord and he said "sorry" and then blamed the butcher and chef. Wouldn't return.

Very foody pub with capacity for about 80 covers. Only opens evenings. One real ale in good condition. No real cider. Very friendly local who thoroughly recommended the food. As non diners we were directed to a scruffy table where the battleship grey paint was in serious need of repainting. Landlord willing to let husband look around and warned of barking but very friendly alsation. The pub no longer has a working watermill.

We visited this lovely restaurant for the Sunday carvery. There were three meats to choose from and such a choice of vegetables. Everything was hot and well cooked and the gravy is brought to the table just before you return to it with your plate...

Such a good evening at the Waterwheel. Food was very good and good value. But what made the evening was the friendliness by all the staff. The waterwheel deserves to be full every night.
