For me 1 the better chippy's, all freshly cooked, even the chicken goujons with the different coating on my daughter loved, 10/10 from her, deffo be going back

Had the large cod and chips and the mrs had a standard cod and chips , cooked to order , the staff were very nice and polite and a nice smile from the fryer. A real good piece of cod on both orders , chips were nice too . The shop was spotless and clean which is great for a seafront establishment . Would definitely call again when in Redcar .

Lovely food,friendly staff amd reasonably priced. Came from whitby for a day out and this was the first chip shop we walked past so we popped on. Will definitely return.

Called in yesterday afternoon for a bite to eat. Just had a fish with mushy peas. Cooked fresh, staff friendly and helpful. Cod was delicious and the batter probably the best I've had, crispy and tasty not soggy at all. Fantastic.

Decided on fish cake and chips instead of ice cream as it was a cold windy day. Chips were great and fishcake lovely and hot and mushy! Service was very cheery.

I was visiting Redcar all the way from Australia, chasing up some family history. Obviously had to see the beach front and grab a bite to eat while here. Spotted this chippy and was not disappointed. Very friendly service with a smile, great prices and even better fish and chips! Would definitely recommend and hope to back soon myself!

Called in for Fishcake and Chips before a day at the races, our first visit, certainly won’t be our last, lovely warm welcome from the young lady on the till, and the man and lady preparing the food, Fish Cake was full of flavoursome fish, and a huge portion of chips, great value for money, Many Thanks

Saw the better reviews for this chippy so decided to walk an extra 100 meters from where the nearest chippy is to the long stay car park. Well worth it. £6 for a large F & C's, supper fresh and not too greasy either. No queue unlike the one we walked past. Highly recommended from a fussy fish n chips eater.

Good socially distant service. Had the best fish patties we’ve had . Loads of fish between 2 thin slices of potato. Delicious. Batter was lovely and crispy covering nice white cod. First we’ve been to chip r russ for a while but will make my first choice on my next visit to Redcar

Cold wet Sunday and unfamiliar with Redcar needed somewhere cheap and cheerful to eat with 3 kids. We dropped lucky and got 5 seats as someone else was leaving. The inside seating is on high stools at the side of the shop so bear this in mind if you have any mobility problems - there isn't a lot of room! It's bang on the seafront so you would expect it to be busy and to be frank it didn't appear to have much competition. Unlike some reviewers I like my chips a pale golden colour and I was very satisfied with the quality of those on offer here. However the portion sizes were really small (but also reflected in the price - it's £8 for fish and chips where we live - £5.10 at this place) and the fish was very, very dry. I like a bit of "clagg" in my batter (sorry for the use of a totally Yorkshire word there, I can't translate it...) and I didn't enjoy the fish at all. However it has to be said that the place was clean and tidy and the staff were very friendly. It also only cost us £20 for 5 drinks, 2 f&c, 2 chips and one burger and chips. The uninitiated should beware - the burgers are battered! One very disappointed little lad was not expecting this at all! No customer toilets that we could see.

I've had some hit and miss experiences in Redcar, I'm pleased to say this was a hit. Prices are decent, staff are friendly, there are places to sit inside.

Great little chippy. Friendly service and beautifully cooked proper fish and chips. Patties are gorgeous too. Best chippy on the seafront.

Being a fish and chip expert ;-) I can confidante say that Russell s is probably the best fish and chips in the area. The family have been providing food in the town for over 60 years that I know of. Great great chippy and try Little Russell s (who s about 6'4) "Big"Russ s son in Whitby too. Keeping the family tradition alive.

The best chippy by far in redcar come every Sunday never been let down yet it's the only chip shop you can get a wheelchair in all the others are packed full of tables

Best fish and chips in Redcar! Russell's is an institution and legend. Great service and friendly staff. My pal from Newcastle looks forward to visiting just to sample these quality fish and chips!! Highly recommended!

I visited this chippy last week with my son, really tasty food but the guy behind the counter was treating the staff horribly shouting at the poor girl serving and looked as though making her feel uncomfortable. Nice food, but poor staff rating.

Went here with family , we threw our food in a bin, Chips were dry and white, very nasty. Went once never again. Advertised as traditional and that is far from the truth

Fish fried to order lovely white cod and batter crispy. Chips also lovely . This is takeaway or eat in at counters around the shop. Staff friendly and shop spotless.will certainly get our fish and chips here if we are in the area.

Fish was really juicy not dry like some other places.The guy behind the fryer must have boiling in the heat, but was still very cheerful, and even helped to serve when the queue started getting longer. Staff made sure everyone got the correct order, service with a smile even when it was busy! Highly recommend.

I thought that I would go to Chips 'R' Russ for my dinner for a change. The fish was at high standard, hot, tasty, good batter, and enough to fill my stomach. I will visit there more often. The public in there was commenting on the different food served. Patties, sausages, beef burgers and of corse the chips. This info was all positive. You can sit in or take the food out when the weathers fine. No extra cost ! Lovely people who serve you, polite and very helpful. Their prices have stayed the same for a few years. Great price, great food, great place. Thank you ever so much. I hope this review has helped.

Unfortunately no haddock so ordered cod. The fish was well cooked and a good size but the chips like so many these days were a very light colour - the problem with cooking them in oil. Sensible prices. Some seating available inside for those who want but plenty of seating outside on the front.

this is counter service,but you can eat in or out.if its warm outside we normally eat out.plenty of seats over road.if cold sit in on high stools.large fish and chips are great ,nothing is too much trouble from the staff will return.

Small portions, the fish was a bit dry but good crispy batter, were ok. Not the tastiest fish & chips in the world but did the job for a trip to the seaside.

We called at this place at 5:00pm on a Saturday in the middle of the summer holidays. We were told that they were closing. We asked if there was a reason that they were closing at such a strange time and the staff couldn't provide a reason. I am genuinely baffled. If there was some sort of malfunction, I'm sure they would have said so. This was particularly disappointing because we have had decent food from this place in the past. Never again though.

The title says it all really. The items ordered were fresh and piping hot, the batter was super crispy and really tasty. Not the cheapest meal but you get what you pay for and this place does the old British classic very very well. Staff were welcoming, friendly and polite, overall a nice clean and tidy, well organised establishment.

I have no qualms in stating that these are the best fish and chips in the Redcar area. The fish is lovely and white and very large. The chips are beautifully cooked crisp and brown on the outside and fluffy on the inside. There is an extensive menu and plenty of drinks to choose from. You can either eat in of take out. The place is very clean and hygienic and has bins for your rubbish. Russ and his wife are so pleasant and cheerful and they really make you feel welcome, thanking you for your custom everytime we visit.

The place attracted us because of its cleanliness initially and smart appearance of the staff, but the fish and chips are good too and a safe bet for a seaside treat. A fish and chip meal is not cheap nowadays and you don't want to be fobbed off with rubbish which this certainly isn't. Nice batter and plenty of cod, large portions. My friend and I shared a portion of chips as one each is far too much - they were nice too, not greasy and tasty.

popped to redcar for a day out from catterick and decided to have fish and chips whilst we were there.the problem is which one theres loads to choose from so looked at 5* rating in window and spotlessly clean frontage of shop decided on this place.ordered fish and chips twice with scraps and curry sauce came to just over £10, fish was cooked to order and was absolutely gorgeous decent size too.many thanks to all will defo use you guys again

we went to Redcar today as a family just to get fish n chips from Russ we have been customers for years and have never been let down there always tasty and fresh,i did make the mistake of getting a battered burger today a mistake,bit like cardboard,luckly my granddaughter wasen,t hungry so I had most of her fish n chips,there was even enough o bring home to warm up,yum,yum.

Popped into this fish shop on bank holiday Monday, The queue was to the door, usually a good sign. My husband and myself both got fish and chips which were delicious. However, when we were getting served at the counter, the way in which the man at the fryer spoke/yelled at the staff serving was totally uncalled for, and very unprofessional.

Russell has a reputation for superb Fish and Chips. As a seaside resort Redcar has a number of similar restaurants along it's busy seafront. Over the years we have tried most of these establishments so decided to try our Russell's.What a very pleasant experience. We were met with a cheery welcome and were served within minutes. The food was well presented, hot and absolutely delicious.Definitely a must for any Redcar visitors wishing to sample local fish and chips at their very best
