Fantastic food, views, bar and ambience with warm and friendly staff and easily the best place in/around Porth and well worth the 5 minute walk from the beach, although also directly accessible from the beach at low tide. Unfortunately we only stumbled on this late in our holiday during a moment of curiousness but have visited twice already and hope to return

Beautiful location overlooking Porth Beach and beyond. Extremely friendly and helpful. Quiet spot for a Guiness or 2. Thanks to Nigel for delivering the Buggy and complimentary pass and to Amber, Carlos and Susan for impeccable service

I wasn't expecting a good experience due to the previous reviews but it was lovely which is why I felt I should write a review. The chef went out of his way to accommodate our group which included a vegan and three vegetarians. The waitress was absolutely delightful and the service was really fantastic. I would recommend this place to anyone. The views are spectacular of course and it was a lovely trip down memory lane having got married there 27 years ago.

Full English breakfast - not quite! Fried egg was swimming in oil. I've never had fried bread in a hotel before, do people really eat this? It's just a cheap plate filler. No fruit or Croissants....so disappointing.

Nice staff but too busy for them to manage effectively. Breakfast was ok but little variation beyond a full English, omelettes etc. Tasted ok but wouldn't go back.

Visited recently, so starters were very very poor, crispy pork was cold and not what I would call a starter with a few bits of rice on some salad leaves, Main meals were ok I mean they were hot enough and tasted ok but we're not how I pictured them from the menu, way below average standard! Staff seemed nice but lacked major professionalism for somewhere charging what they do and were to the standard of a poor harvester restaurant. Desserts were all cold and looked like they were defrosted from Iceland, 100% certain we were overcharged by about £20, guess I should have checked receipt before paying I guess! Overall the price was shocking, service below average food on the whole greatly disappointing. Hate leaving bad reviews but this was really poor.

We were staying in Porth for our son's wedding and our friends were staying in the Glendorgal so we had breakfast with them . We have had breakfast in many hotels and this was the poorest breakfast we have ever had. There was a menu which listed fresh fruit and fruit compote. There were neither of these and when we asked we were told they could not get any so could not make them (there are a lot of shops in Newquay so I found this unbelievable) all they had was tinned prunes, tinned grapefruit and runny yogurt and a few boxes of cereal. The cooked breakfast was ok but nothing special. The staff (there was only 1) was not helpful and miserable. Our friends said their room was tired and could do with updating. It seems that as this hotel is in such a lovely location they think that is enough but it is supposed to be a top quality hotel so we expected much, much more.

Welcoming staff, and stunning views. Food was really good. However, my son's bean burger turned out to be fish cakes (not even on the menu). Staff sorted the problem really well, this is why I am still giving 4 stars

I ate here for 3 nights while staying at the hotel. EVERY meal bar one is accompanied by skinny fries. There are very few meals that are served with any fresh veg and the choice seems to have been put together by a teenager...burgers, fish and chips etc. For more info see my hotel review

Stayed here with my partner. We were mostly happy! Arrived and were given a twin room with a land view and said we would prefer a double room so the receptionist moved us without any problems (to a sea view room for no extra cost!) We went swimming and for the two hours we were there we had the pool to ourselves which was nice however the website says that there is a hot tub, no hot tub! And the sauna was out of order. The restaurant was lovely, great food, great service and a lovely view. A little on the pricey side but was worth it. Was nice to see the chef going around the tables to make sure that everyone was ok! The rooms were a little dirty, that's the only thing that let the hotel down really! Cobwebs in the corners, dusty windows and hairs on our spare pillows! We would return again, just hope the unclean room was a one off!

This is a lovely place and over the last 10 yrs been probably 6 times and have never been disappointed the view is amazing .i would recommend on a Saturday if there is a wedding going on to think about closing the restaurant to outside customers. When we turned up it felt like we were gate crashing a wedding not having a nice meal for 2 out... the bar was busy , the atmosphere just wasn't there! No light back ground music. The whole meal i had screaming children running past the table.. the food was average for the price you pay, the waitress was foreign, very friendly...almost too friendly! This place used to have a clean, upper market feel to it. Its used to feel great and like you were going out for dinner and could dress up! it needs some tlc and someone to love it and look after it again! Noone seemed to be in charge or know what there doing..

Had my wedding here last Friday I think every guest that came (100+) said it was the best food they've ever had at a wedding! Great service from staff especially Amanda! Zack the head chef was a delight to work with and everything was better than myself and bride could EVER imagine

Unchilled Prosecco, steak hanging over the edge of the tiny "starter size" plate, half a plate of salad, garlic bread with no garlic - merely toast with a bit of butter/herbs, tarte au citrone which could have been bought from Iceland for £1. Not impressed. Oh, and upon asking for a fork as well as a spoon for my desert, overheard the waiter say to a waitress "SHE now wants a fork!"

I stayed at the hotel after an unexpected need to fly to Newquay airport. The location (and in particular view) are great, as was the service which was very attentive. Just a shame that the food was so middle of the road. For a restaurant that sells itself as a high end establishment, it felt more middle of the road pub grub (but with small portions and expensive pricing).

We have eaten here a few times as it's in the hotel we stay in. The menu is a little uninspired and it is really to expensive for the quality but the view and location go some way to making it a nice evening.

The menu was small but good. We shared the whitebait, and very glad we did as portion whas huge - and very nicely gooked - not laden with batter like some! My OH had the catch of the day with chips which was delicious and I had a salad - we would have ate there a second night but the menu hadn't been changed so decided not to but I would deffo eat here again.

Stayed at the hotel so this was a lazy man's option for supper but turned out to be really good. Food was reasonably priced, not the cheapest by any stretch, but then the portions were extremely generous. The views over Porth beach are lovely and provided a nice backdrop to the meal. Great food and convenient if you have the option to take the short stroll to a room in the hotel.

I will start by saying the restaurant did reduce our bill and throw in a few free extras but we were very surprised by the quality and portioning of the food. At the time the cafe was very quiet but the staff seemed a little bit chaotic. Orders not being put through properly, items missed off and not knowing what beer they had available. A couple of us ordered the chicken burger (£13) and my son had the kids version (£8.50) but his came with chips. I was pretty shocked when we both received exactly the same sized portion. A small bun, 1/2 a small chicken fillet and one piece of lettuce, not exactly worth £13. The staff did even comment that they there was an issue but still felt it was fine to serve and just expect people to pay. The pizzas were but ok but again surprised when we we charged £3 for 2-3 sliced olives as an extra. We've eaten at many other places up and down the coast and based on our experience we would not return.

I have to admit that I am not the person that comments on anything and everything, nor do I ever right a review of my experience. If I am unsatisfied with the experience, I just won't return again. But ... I have been seeing the Development of this establishment for that past 20 years and treated myself quite often to a night or two in any of the corner or best suites ( highly recommend those ) and enjoyed the ambiance and service this hotel had to offer. Our experience: Arrival to the hotel : We planned to have drinks prior to our meal. Found the bar area as busy as usual. With no free seats in sight, I ask the Brasserie manager if we could order drinks in the main lounge, whereas we been told that there normally is service but he has no clue what they doing today. Not answer I was hoping for. The entrance to the main lounge also been blocked off for some reason. Luckily the wait at bar was sufficient enough to pass the time for a table to become vacant. In previous visits, a relaxed table service was offered but not this time for some reason . Guess it’s an informal 5 star service.. , had to ask for bar menus as neither been on the bar or tables to see what’s on offer. ( also no usual complimentary nuts that used to be offered ) Restaurant We arrived early to our Booking at the samphire and were delighted to be able to be seated, unfortunately without any menus. It took about 10-15 min of us staring holes into the warm air, when I lost my patients and had to get up from the table to ask for menus at the entrance of the Restaurant. Yet again it took quite a while for us to order drinks and food as it seemed to be a chaotic service with everyone doing everything and no restaurant Manager nor head waiter in sight ( please note.. all evening ) . The lack of attention to detail was incredible .. table settings with knives to left and forks to right on every table .. just wow - giggle Food and drinks order done. ( ordered a glass of white wine with my mains, which never arrived ).. Drinks arrived what seamed ages. Overheard table next to us complaining about the slow service too, which been given a small apology but no solution to increase the speed of service ( yet again a lack of management ) Noticed the young waiter being unfamiliar on how to correctly present a bottle of wine and opening it, which I thought should be a training standard for a 5 star establishment. not only did he seem untrained, he also dried his hands in a used napkin left on the table next to him where diners just left. The pork belly starter , was below luke warm which was shame as its been rather tasty. I guess if a portion of this size is sitting on a kitchen pass for mere 3 min, it naturally will loose its core temperature, suggestion.. Next time use a cloche! I wanted to point this out to the service but yet again no manager or headwaiter to be seen and the waiters seem too busy to be bothered. Once they did ask if everything is alright, but by that time we finished what we had on the plate ( which is not a lot if you are hungry ) Unfortunately the main course of the hen and the monk fish not been any better and yet again being luke warm. Dessert of the frangipane tart and pineapple been ok, but yet again no attention to detail, as the dessert been bought out without cutlery being replenished prior. Ordered coffee to be served in the lounge, which arrived with no sugar or spoon and had to be asked for separately. When I paid my bill, I mentioned that the wine I ordered with my main course never arrived. No apology was offered.. A "informal fine Dining " experience. 95% informal - 5 % fine Dining. :-( Over the past 20 years I always chose the Headland hotel for its perfection, attention to detail and impeccable service, this time it's not delivered to its promise which is a shame cause that's what I will remember.. Coming from a 4 to a 5 star .. I expected more ( go back to 4 stars !!! You been better then
