I rang hoping to enjoy an exceptional lunch. The owner told me that sadly her husband had died last year and as he was the famous chef she was no longer serving meals to non residents.

Visited last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The food was excellent, using locally sourced and seasonal produce. Our room was very comfortable with amazing views. At breakfast we enjoyed watching the birds feeding in the garden. The location is stunning and we enjoyed a long walk in beautiful countryside. Isobel and Ken are welcoming and friendly hosts.

Been here three times, each time I have walked here either with my wife or with friends. It has a timeless quality, put in perspective by the thousand year old Offa;s dyke running nearby. The food is amazing, drawing on the rich seam of local produce and passed though the lens of a classically trained French chef. Is like getting on top of you? Drop in the the Waterdine, see things in their true perspective, and eat some of the best food you will ever eat for a very reasonable price

We stayed overnight and ate in the restaurant. Ken and Isobel were very welcoming, chatty and friendly, lovely cream tea on arrival - thank you very much. The building is old and homely in a lovely very quiet setting by the river Teme - lots of bird life to keep us entertained at breakfast. The food was delicious, both dinner and breakfast. We also purchased some of their lovely home made jam and chutney. A really enjoyable relaxing break.

Isobel was fantastic and welcoming us with some locals into the dining area and some complimentry olives and salmon/cheese The food was the best ive had in a very long time, and no i dont have a diet of Kebabs and McDonalds :). The Pork Belly was amazing and the mustard mash, The Starter of Smoked Salmon was fantastic too. The breakfast Jam looked to be home made and im kicking myself for not asking if there was any for sale as I heard the previous night someone saying they wanted to buy some. The price at £32.50 for three courses and what you get in terms of quality was outstanding. I really recommend this Gem...as for Ken well thats the owner and Chef whos hospitable and a wealth of knowledge. .

If your looking for excellent food, pleasant surroundings and really nice people, then this is the place for you. We have had some meals here over the years but this is the first time we have stayed the night. It is out of the way but definitely worth finding. Ken Adams is one of the best chefs we have come across. Extremely quiet and very comfortable place to stay the night plus an excellent breakfast. Wonderful view across the valley and a birds paradise, couldn't take our eyes off the bird feeders in the morning when having breakfast.

As Ludlow locals we can say this is in our top 3 restaurants in the area and we are happy to drive the half an hour to get there. The service by Isobel is friendly and welcoming and the food by Ken outstanding; imaginative, clever taste combinations and different every time we go. Sweet little Welsh cottage, unspoilt, with a wonderful view over the Welsh mountains.

We were very impressed by the reasonably priced three course Sunday lunch menu but then the quality of the food surpassed expectations. The food was delicious and it was great to eat all local and seasonal produce. They offered the traditional options as well as courses with deer, pigeon and mackerel etc. The setting was also stunning. However they have limited tables and the menu often changes. It is unlikely that you will stumble across this gem so I would definitely recommend you to go out of your way to visit this restaurant.

This is a truly characterful restaurant on the Shropshire / Welsh border in amazing hiking country. The building is very old and quirky, the welcome and food amazing and to top it all we were sitting in a conservatory overlooking snow capped hills watching birds including hawks and red kites glide by. Fresh fish including a John Dory starter and a Hake main course were available along with a very tender Roe deer in a Juniper berry and sloe gin sauce. Puddings were simple but delicious and included fresh pancakes with Cointrou and marmalade ice cream.

The first time we came to the restaurant, the food was fabulous. This time it was very dissapointing. The service was very good but the food was of poor quality and overpriced, We now know why there were not may diners. It would seem that the chef can be temprimental and this is reflected in his food. What a shame as we had made a special visit to come back. Oh well.I had to do this second review as I do not want anyone else to be dissapointed.Sorry!!

The cooking at The Waterdine is nearly always exceptional , I have enjoyed many very goodmeals carefully prepared and cooked by the Chef Proprietor. I first tasted his food when he was based in Ludlow several years ago and knew then that this was well above average cooking. Not the easiest place to find or get to but well worth the trip. The welcome is always warmand the setting by the river charming. I understand the b and b rooms are comfortable andreasonably priced.

We were the only visitors for a mid-week lunch as we had booked for a party of 10.Ken had prepared a special 3 course menu for us.We did arrive a little early, as it was wet, but they coped well with our early appearance. The food, as always was very good - we were given a choice for each of the three courses & the party did enjoy the quality of the food & the presentation. The Waterdine is a converted old style village pub, with lots of character. It is well off the beaten track and has to be searched out to appreciate the delights of first class food in a remote location.

Quality local produce and good value can be a hard thing to find these days. The Waterdine proves this as, even now after returning home, I am not quite sure how it is I got there, and where exactly it is!However, upon finding the delightful building, it was lovely to see a stall next door selling jams, chutneys and plants from the restaurant by way of an honesty box.Inside, I was welcomed by a cosy bar and sofas. The owners are husband and wife I think, husband the one and only chef in the kitchen. Wife front of house with an assistant. Service excellent throughout.I had a wild garlic cheese cake as a starter which was remarkably balanced. Followed by saddle of local deer which mushrooms, artichoke and a type of swiss pasta. It worked really well and the meat was so tender. I envied my partners duck breast in redcurrant type sauce. You must try this place for somewhere truly authentic and unique. Three courses for £32 is excellent for food of this quality and the drinks menu is vast and well priced. All you have to do is find the place!

After two nights in Ludlow my wife and I decided to 'chill out' in the tiny backwater of Llanfair Waterdine and booked an overnight stay at this lovely old inn, now describing itself as a 'restaurant with rooms'. Arriving late afternoon we were given a very friendly welcome, a lovely pot of tea and a plate of freshly home baked scones.Dinner was superb. Lovely local produce beautifully cooked and presented were easily the equal of La Becasse and Fishmore Hall where we had eaten on the two previous evenings. My wife's main, rump of black welsh lamb, was the most beautiful piece of meat I have seen for years and I was rather hoping that she would be unable to finish the rather generous portion and that I would get the opportunity to taste this lovely looking dish. No such luck! Unusually, my wife cleaned the plate and declared the dish 'wonderful'.Our room was 'cosy' with a small bathroom curtained off and a seperate WC. Given the difficulties in converting an ancient drover's inn into a modern B+B the accomodation was very comfortable and the owners have gone to considerable lengths to furnish the rooms in an appropriate and tasteful fashion.Breakfast was just about anything you wanted. Everything local or home made and was excellent. We cannot stress too highly the level of hospitality we experienced at The Waterdine. We left feeling that we had stayed the night with friends and we would not hesitate to return on one of our future trips to the area. A final bonus. Our three course a la carte meal was less than half the price of La Becasse.

We could not find anywhere to eat and ended up at the Waterdine by accident. We rang ahead to make sure they were open and advised them that we were vegetarian and could they accomodate us for dinner. they were very welcoming and by the time we arrived down the back roads and found them we were welcomed with a drink and a personalised vegetarian menu just created by the chef. to say we were impressed was an understatement. We had a declicious meal. Not cheap but nice surroundings, good service and very delicous food. We were so pleased as vegetarians to also be given a choice on the menu. We will be back in June 2012! See you soon. shame we do not live nearby!

The restaurant is in a very old building tucked away in beautiful, remote countryside. At £32 per head for 3 courses, we expected very good food. Unfortunately, my monkfish was dry and overcooked. The crab starter was thickened with so much mayonnaise--clearly a cost cutting measure-- that completely obliterated the delicate crab. My friend's lamb chops were cooked on one side and appeared to be uncooked on the other. Other comments were similarly lukewarm: food cooked wrong, under-flavoured. No excuses at this price.

We spent a very pleasant week end there again, the peace and tranquillity of the location coupled with the excellent food is a wonderful way to re charge your batteries. Highlights of the eating had to be the pigeon breast in puff pastry starter, the excellent organic lamb and the cherry roulade with the home made cherry ice cream. The restaurant was very busy on the Saturday but the service and kitchen coped very well and the standard of the food did not dip. And as usual, the breakfasts were outstanding. How nice to have fresh raspberries and strawberries from the garden and the most delicious fruit compotes. A wonderful way to start the day.

The Waterdine Inn is in a small hamlet that is out of the way. We have stayed here several times and ate at the Waterdine numerous times. We like eating in the conservatory with the pleasant views across the valleyThe bed room accommodation is very good the rooms are of a good size but not over large; you are after all staying in a very old Inn You realise just how old the buiding is by the thickness of the stone walls. The breakfast just cannot be beaten, it is the best we have had anywhere with the home nade preserves being a real treat. Nothing is too much trouble for Isabel and Ken.We have eaten there most times for Sunday lunch which is an experience I would recommend to anyone one. The dishes are prepared with skill and presentation is of a high order. The quality of the food is first class. You can pick any of the dishes and you wont be disappointed. My favourite desert though is the lemon tart, tangy with beatifully, thin crisp pastery. Ken is indeed a very talented chef.. The wine list is small and fairly priced.. Service is professional but friendly and you are not hurried..It is a great place for a romantic get away or for those seeking peace and tranquility. Finally, if you like looking at the night stars the location is ideal as there is no intrusion from street lights or any other lights come to that. If you go out for an evening walk do not forget to take a torch.

We booked for dinner b @ b for one night. Made very welcome despite late arrival following traffic chaos on M6. Half way through our starters there was a widespread power cut but despite this and with the aid of lots of candlesdinner was served - and not bad too! The room was a little small / cosybut in keeping with the property. First class breakfast and excellent smoked salmon. The owners obviously anxious to please. The Inn is in a most delightful setting - in a word - charming

I feel a little uncomfortable giving a mediocre review as the people were lovely, the outside of the building and garden beautiful and it's in a lovely little village. The breakfast with the waitress's free range hen'seggs and local bacon and a onderful eggs benedict was fantastic. However the room was really poor with lots of little knick nacks spread everywhere, pokey and would only rate a poor B&B room not somehwere claiming restaurant with rooms status, and charging those prices too. Dinner was OK, but the chef was obviously good and cutting edge 15 yeas ago no longer ,just average (but most of the veg is grown in the garden and was good). Ok a curates egg of a place., if it has been less expensive I would'nr complain but for the price the bedrooms need to be much better.Good for Offa's Dyke path

The hosts, Isobel and Ken, are good at making one feel at home without being intrusive. Isobel is a mind of information about the area anything to do with gardening is her pet joy. The food is good, in fact, very good. The breakfast is huge, nothing is too much trouble. Being able to sit in their garden watching the birds and listening to the River Teme is very restful. I would describe the furnishing as quirky nothing matches but that adds to the charm of the place, it is 16th century after all. Would go back again just to sit in the garden and listen to the quietness.

we always try to come here when we can get in and don’t fancy cooking one ourselves. the meat selection is always good and very generous, their roast potatoes are the best - lovely and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. it is a carvery so can help yourself. they unfortunately don’t have any mash but we just add extra roasties! their gravy is lovely and homemade with the meat juices in. the staff are lovely and attentive. our favourite place to go for sunday lunch!

Visited with friends for a music festival this weekend and wow, what an amazing pub!! We only planned on staying for a couple of hours but think we finally left at half 11 🙈 The staff were lovely, the food was amazing (I had the Bratwurst and loaded fries, it was all cooked fresh and was amazing value!) - my partner is a real ale drinker and said that the bitter was perfect, plus they had local ones one which is such a nice touch. This is such a hidden gem of a pub, we’ve been before and had an amazing roast dinner here but hadn’t really seen the garden or the bar area and it’s pristine. We’ll def be back and please do another ash fest next year!!

We are regular visitors to the Red Lion in Myddle. We return every time because the food and service is second to none. We always receive a warm welcome and we know how hard Pete and Jackie and staff work to make sure that their guests are not disappointed. If you fancy a meal out around Shrewsbury (lunch or dinner) then look no further than the Red Lion. You won’t regret it.
