NO visitas! ! !

Ordered from the bar menu in Walter's. It's a nice casual lounge area that is good for drinks, but the food was shockingly slow and when it arrived it was overcooked and dry. Some items were missing from what was advertised too, and other things had been added in - which is fine, but it would've been nice to be advised of this. The prices are very high for the quality of food, you're much better off going to one of the local restaurants which offer a far higher standard of food for much more reasonable prices. It's a shame that in a hotel as lovely as this one, they can't get the food right to match, it would be a lovely setting if the quality of food matched the quality of the hotel.

Marriott restaurants can be all the same but they do try. This is one of that does try. They are standard meals but at this one there is a twist. We had a very good meal. The only issue was my cheese which wasn't local and could have been fresher. Don't discard this restaurant if you are staying it's worth a visit.

My wife and I received a £25 voucher each as part of our stay at the Marriott. We went for Friday evening dinner and the place was dead. The menu is very limited and very expensive. The drinks were very expensive too with the cheapest red wine being £25 for a Shiraz. My wife and I both ordered a steak at £20 each for a 9oz rump. The steak was well cooked however the cuts that were used were very poor and not very well butchered. Both had gristle all through it and were quite tough. Overall not great. To add insult to injury we were whacked with a very high service charge when the bill came. This was quite disappointing as the service was good and we would have probably tipped this much anyway. Instead it was removed and no tip left Overall, give this place a swerve. High prices, limited menu, poor quality ingredients.

After a somewhat disappointing stay in the Marriott Royal hotel, of which this restaurant is a part, we were a bit worried about whether Sunday lunch (Fathers' Day!) would be disappointing as well! We needn't have worried! I can categorically state that this was the best Sunday lunch we have had in ages and we eat out quite often. Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked and even the bread was so tasty that we asked if we could take the last two slices home with us, and were given a little plastic box and a paper carrier bag to put it in! The service was charming and impeccable and Klara, our waitress, was lovely. Nothing was too much trouble. We would definitely return to this little gem of a restaurant, even if we don't return to the hotel itself!

We visited Walter's restaurant mid-week and it happened to be Steak Night! Situated in the Marriot Royal, in the centre of Bristol, Walter's offers a good choice of menu. Given that it is in the hotel you sense the clientele are mainly from the hotel itself and it was a little sparsely populated. Nevertheless the staff were attentive, helpful and efficient. I ordered a steak, and it was well presented and well cooked, and with 20% off (Steak Night offer) it felt like a reasonable deal. We enjoyed our steak with a good bottle of red; always a winning combination. Walter's restaurant is definitely worth a visit, and you can always visit the adjacent bar for a nightcap afterwards.

I booked Walter's Bar and Grill through OpenTable on Friday for a special birthday dinner for my friend on Saturday night. I know it was last minute but I didn't think I would have trouble finding a restaurant with all that Bristol have to choose from. OpenTable showed that the first available table would be at 9pm. Fair enough with the last minute booking, so I went with it. When we showed up at 9pm the restaurant had 2 other tables still dining but the rest was completely empty and from the looks of it, had been for quite a while. I asked the person who was at the front desk why we had to wait until 9pm when the restaurant was empty. She said it had not been busy all night and did not know why we had to wait until 9pm for a table. The food was amazing and the wine lovely but the ambience was awful. By the time our mains came, we were the only ones in the restaurant, and it is a very large restaurant. How awful! What was supposed to be a fun night out was a bit awkward. I don't mind paying good money for good food but I felt very let down.

This was a bit of a surprise! however we enjoyed cocktails before our dinner in the Cocktail bar and then moved next door for dinner. The restaurant was quite quiet however the service was friendly, attentive and non-intrusive. the menu was a nice selection of modern European food that was sensibly priced. the wine selection was more quality then quantity. the starters arrived relatively quickly and the mains about 5-10 minutes after the starters which was perfect. we ordered a variety of food and we all agreed that the standard was excellent. the bill was reasonable. all in all I will be coming back!

The booking process was easy, but I couldn't get a slot at the time we wanted (7pm), so we picked 6:45. However, when we arrived , the restaurant was empty, and was empty pretty much all night, so why couldn't we get 7pm? The decor was 'smart', but the music was all wrong - too poppy. We had a Christmas meal here previously and were glad to see they were reintroducing their Sunday Lunches. Its not a buffet. There are 4 choices of meat/fish/veg to cover most traditional tastes. 1 course £9.95 , 2 courses £14.95. We both had starters of tomato n roasred pepper soup and a chicken terrine These were both fresh and delicious. For mains we had the beef which was amazing.👍 served with roasters, cauliflower cheese and yorkie and veg. Really good sized plateful. We never had time for dessert as we were parked on a meter. However if you are dining you can get free parking within the hotel. The service was impeccable and very attentive . Big mention to Heidi who jollied everyone along as she attended to their needs. The whole dining room was very quiet when we went so hoping it gets busier, so they keep it going. The restaurant is right off the hotel lobby, which makes it useful for those staying there as it is a short walk, the WiFi reaches and you can sign the bill off on your room. There were plenty of tables and you had the freedom to pick the location and furniture design - not that it mattered to me. The menu was relatively broad and there were lots of things to choose. After a bit of a wait, my food came: the burger was beautifully presented, with the chips in a lovely little side tray. The condiments were on the side and were obviously high quality and the food itself was absolutely cooked to perfection. The meal was rather overpriced and the waiters were a little bit in-your-face, but this is only to be expected in a hotel.

Aperetifs took their time to get to the table after being ordered. Starters arrived in good time and were very good. There wasn't much wait for the main courses and these were excellent as well. I had asked for a glass of wine to be served with the main, but I was half way through by the time it was remembered by the staff. Desert was enjoyed, but coffee slow to follow. The mixed grill was very good but the chicken dish really should be eaten by the chef before sending out more of this. A great concept - smoky chicken breast, cider jus, and a ham hash brown slice. The chicken didn't taste flavoursome, only the bitter aspect of 'charred' was detected, and the hash brown was extremely tasty, until I realised that this was because too much salt was in it, and after the third mouthful, couldn't eat any more. We dined here on the first night of our stay in the hotel. The restaurant was very quiet ( possibly due to it being a Thursday night) and there wasn't a great deal of atmosphere. Our starters were nice but my main course was very disappointing. I had ordered their "signature dish" of Exmoor venison served with sautéed potatoes, stuffed courgette and a red wine sauce. I received two small medallions of venison, some slightly watery courgette stuffed with what I think was redcurrant sauce, a couple of pieces of other vegetables and just five 1cm cubes of sautéed potato ! I finished it in a couple of minutes and was left feeling rather hungry. My husbands fish dish was of a more reasonable size but both our meals were barely lukewarm. Added to this our white wine wasn't chilled though a bucket of ice was provided when we mentioned it. In have to ah that the staff were pleasant bad the service was good but I wouldn't eat there again.

The main courses were expensive and nicely presented, but the flavours weren't right. It's not just this restaurant, but so many British restaurants insist on mixing delicate fish/seafood with overpowering sauces. I ordered monkfish which came with a 'white bean cassoulet in tomato herb sauce'. Well really it was monkfish on fancy baked beans in tomato sauce: just NOT right. Apart from tasting just like baked beans froma can, a tomato sauce is far too overpowering for monkfish. Why not try a citrus sauce like lemon or orange, or a tropical flavour like mango sauce (but WITHOUT any curry flavour in it!). The desert was also ruined by a poor combination of flavours. I had a banoffee creme brulee which was great, but it was served with rum and raisin icecream, which just WAS NOT COMPATIBLE with the banoffee flavour. A good quality vanilla would have been acceptable, but again why not try some fruit flavoured icecream which would complement the banana and toffee flavours, or be even more innovative and try a coconut flavour? My final complaint is that the hotel made an issue of serving cocktails, yet could not offer a pina colada because they didn't have any coconut. It's not hard to have a supply of cans of coconut milk/cream! Poor effort. If they want to stand out from all the other restaurants in Bristol, again they should try to offer something a bit different, and there aren't many places where you can get a decent pina colada. To be at the top, you have to pay more ATTENTION TO DETAILS like these. Won't be eating here again.

The menu was simple with three choices for each course. We all found something we liked and the food was exceptional. The restaurant was very comfortable and spacious without being to roomy. There are many places to eat in Bristol and so the competition is fierce but we will certainly be eating here again. I would suggest that Walters would be ideal for an early meal before a show. Two pieces of bread and some pork crackling with apple sauce. After 65 minutes and three seperate "only 5 minutes Sir" it arrived. Another 40 minutes and main course. Quite tasty but the usual chips in a bucket and a salad that looked like ot had been crammed in a mini galvanised steel bucket. Only complaint about the newly refurbished restaurant is the seating. I had to swap with my other half because the bench-style is rather like a church pew - very upright and difficult to get the back support. The booking system here is very good and if you have a particular room preference, they will do their best to accommodate you.The public areas of the hotel are rather splendid, with plenty of marble, chandeliers and bright decor. The rooms are well appointed and the beds are very comfortable, although I have to say, a bit of a refurb. of soft furnishings wouldn't go amiss! The staff are a pleasure to deal with and the breakfast spread is hard to beat.I would point out that at weekends the city can be a bit lively and there is quite a bit of noise from the streets, so unless you are going to partake of an effective nightcap, perhaps you would benefit from booking an inside ( courtyard ) room.

I’ve not had a proper afternoon tea for many years. This made up for the wait. Although service was a bit a slow, even though they were not busy, the variety and quality of items was very good. A selection of little finger sandwiches – cucumber, egg mayo, ham and mustard and smoked salmon was followed by fresh scones with masses of very thick clotted cream and strawberry jam. Finally there was a selection of small pastries, which went down well. It is all served very nicely – you even have 3 ‘egg timers’ that run for different times and are used to time how long to brew your choice of 3 different types of tea.

A nice setting - comfortable, elegant room with big open fire but a sadly disappointing afternoon tea. Sandwiches were dry, curling around the edges and with very uninteresting fillings. Scones were also dry and appeared to have been made the day before. The menu promised an endless supply of tea but, when we asked for more, we were told that we could have more water to top up our pots but if we wanted fresh tea we'd have to pay extra! Saving grace were the cakes, which were delicious...

Went to the gin tasting which was fantastic. Had a really interesting and fun evening with the resident gin witch. She was very knowledgeable and answered all our silly questions. The gin itself was delicious. Would highly recommend the gin tasting experience!

Our group of 10 visited The Colosseum for the Bottomless Jazz Brunch on Saturday at midday. The experience included 90 minutes of tapas dishes such as chorizo, patatas bravas, and padron peppers, all delicious. The brunch also included unlimited Aperol Spritz, Prosecco, Sangria, and Pimm’s. We were seated outside near the brilliant jazz band, who played a range of standards, which created a really lovely atmosphere. The portion sizes were generous, and the staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring our drinks were topped up regularly. The price is reasonable for the amount and quality of food and drink offered. One point for consideration by management would be improving the acoustics inside the restaurant, as it can get quite harsh on the ears during peak times. Overall, we had a fantastic time and will definitely be returning.

We were served by Max (fella with glasses). Food was lovely, quick service, I was also recommended wine which was unexpected but appreciated!
