Fantastic fish and chips on monday evening. My mate thought the best he'd ever had!

what a complete let down we used to go here quite often...... although that was some time ago...... we were looking forward to our visit especially my husband, loved it before but now an absolute disgrace, wish I'd taken a photo but I just didn't think at the time... fish what fish???? what a complete joke I'm not even going to bother to say anymore 😡

Just visiting tge Eden Project and used Tripadvisor to find this jewel. Ate in. Clean, fresh traditional fish and chip shop!

Absolutely terrible food, defiantly wont ever be returning, chips were cold so asked for it to be fixed, which the second lot came out no better just with the cheese put separately, the worst powder made curry sauce have ever tried defiantly not homemade and makes you cough with how much of a powder kick it has to it, not impressed and do not recommend

Visited here tonight with family that are visiting us from up country. The gentleman that was serving was and always so lovely and helpful but the larger senior lady doing the cooking was extremely miserable, angry and rude. The man serving was standing waiting for her to cook the food so he can serve it and he stood with his arms crossed casually and she bellowed from behind the fryers ‘why are you standing with your arms crossed’ this was in front of a shop full of customers. The man explained he was waiting for food to be cooked to which she replied ‘you didn’t say you needed chips’ even though she has just had the receipt from him to put the food in to cook. She shouldn’t be allowed to work in a customer faced job role, we visit this place quite a lot as we live here however we won’t be visiting again as she is a horrible person barking at people!

First time in st austell was hungry went in for food ,daughters pie was microwave with no filling my fish and chips was inedible partners cheese burger was terrible, needless to say would never eat there again.

Don’t buy chips from here, they will have been cooked and then left for a long time. And they will give you chips that are full of grease and taste horrible.

You know that lovely experience of light and fluffy chip shop chips with a meaty piece of fish...didn't get that here. When placing my order the guy behind the counter mentioned that the food was just going into the frier, so expected lovely fresh tasting food. Sadly what we got was chips that were so dry that several went "pinging" around the kitchen because they shattered when the fork went near them, and the fish was more overcooked batter than fish. Very, very disappointing.

On an out of season cheeky few days in Cornwall, few places open, fancied chippy tea, and praise the lord Walkers was open. Sadly, so gobsmacked at the lovely grub that I took no pics, but, girlfriend had vegan burger, and I had pie, chips and gravy. My girlfriend said the vegan burger was the best ever. My pie was probably worth 20p, but the chips and gravy was outstanding!

The fish and chips served in this restaurant were the worst I have ever had. I had the small portion, the chips were hard and lukewarm and when I cut into the fish there was no fish just slimy batter. The curry sauce had a thick skin over it so I couldn't eat it. No bread n butter included in the meal. No teapots just a mug. We should have known when we walked in the place was cold and empty but being on holiday we weren't familiar on where to eat and we were getting hungry but not hungry enough to eat the disgusting food they served me. The woman behind the counter wasn't at all pleasant. The young man who took our order was pleasant enough.

Vile food Shocking customer service AVOID!

We had no option but to go here, since other more preferable establishments were shut. Will never go again!! The food was just about edible. I think it’s the first time none of us (including the children) didn’t finish their plate… batter soggy, chips under cooked and both pretty tasteless. How difficult can it be to make great fish and chips?? I hope we don’t get food poisoning!!

I was the only customer in this chip shop, I had to wait 14 minutes for a portion of a large chips that would not be enough to feed a chicken. I will never ever go there again.

Called into the St. Austell branch at approx 13:00 on Monday 27th November. I asked for a large bag of chips wrapped. These had to be the worst chips that I have ever had - they were disgusting. They were look warm, hard and heavily greasy. Being Monday at 13:00 they had to have been Saturday’s re-heats because they certainly were not fresh! They were not fit to be given to pigs let alone for human consumption. Chips should be fresh and cooked in front of you not served up two day old re-heats. Disgusting! Will not be going back. If it was not for the fact that I was going to work I would have returned them and demanded a refund! If I could give minus 10 stars then that would be more accurate!

Food was good, I had fish and chips. The only slight downside was the fish batter was a little stodgy, great value for money though. Service was very good, staff were polite and attentive.

Just returned from our lovely stay in Cornwall and must thank Walkers in St Austell for the best fish and chips take away. We had it on 2 occasions and they were both gorgeous. Freshly fried chips and fish and mushy peas mmm! Sorry no photo we couldn’t wait to eat them. You may even get a sing song from the chef..I’d you’re lucky! Totally recommend.

Worst fish n chips shop ever.food was terrible

Chips n batters sausage very nice. Barley any fish nothing to it thin as anything small It’s was like eating batter on its own. Won’t get fish from there again.

Absolutely terrible. Waited over 30 mins for the worst fish and chips I have ever known. I should say batter and chips because the fish was practically invisible. I knew as soon as I walked in that I should have gone elsewhere. I recommend this establishment is avoided at all costs.

Whent there lunch time had fish and chips chips were left overs we heated from the previous night

Got fish and chips from there tonight....the fish was all batter very little actual fish and all the chips were scrolls Not happy

4 adults, 3 children and a toddler accommodated with no problem. The staff were helpful and friendly. We waited a little while for the food but it was so worth it when it arrived, hot fresh fish in crispy batter and crispy chips. Delicious, among the best fish and chips I have ever had. And on top of that reasonably priced 😊 Thank you so much!

After years of supporting another local chip shop they had a change of ownership and, whilst their shop was closed for a refit, some friends called in here and were mightily impressed. So, on the strength of that, we decided to give it a go and telephoned and order through for me to collect - it had just come out of the fryer as I arrived. The guy behind the counter was excellent and friendly. The portions were immense. I have no idea where some of the reviewers here normally est fish and chips from but a standard sized piece of fish that hangs over both sides of a dining plate is pretty god in my reckoning. The chips were equally good value - one standard portion being enough for the three of us with some left over. The fish was very nice and cooked to perfection as were the chips and I'm told the gravy was very tasty (I don't do gravy with fish!) Lastly I must come to the value. The portion sizes were the equal of our previous favourite and the food quality was just as good. The big difference was the price - at our old favourite what we had this evening would have cost £18.50; at Walker's it was £12.35. That makes our previous favourite 50% dearer than Walkers for the same quality. I know where I'm going for my next fish and chips! Highly recommended

An experience I wouldn't wish on anybody. We were running late because of traffic so decided to stop off in St Austell to see if we could find something to eat, this unfortunately for us was the only place open. Had I not been so hungry I'd have never gone in. The 2 women behind the counter were as miserable as sin. It was hot and they were bored, they had 2 hrs left of their shift and my god didn't we know it. We ordered 2 lots of fish and chips and one of them set to work cooking in the kitchen area. It took about 15 minutes of waiting, we tried to make conversation but they weren't up for it, they just kept grumbling between themselves. When the food was ready the woman at the front scooped it into boxes. The chips looked they had been reheated from lunch time and the fish was that heavily battered you couldn't see the fish. It was so greasy when I bit into it i felt sick, the chips weren't any better. I wish I could have given a better report but sorry girls you need to get your act together on all accounts.

What on earth is this?! This is the smallest battered fish I think I've ever had/seen. It is a complete joke. The chips were terrible, very dry and greasy. Absolutely awful. I cannot get over the size of the fish, I was on the verge of walking back to the shop, but I didn't. You will never see me use this place again. I always favoured this place over White River Fishbar. For a solid 10 years, I kept returning.Well, needless to say I will NOT be returning. Do better Walkers. Your reputation in comparison to White River Fishbar is ridiculous.

Good honest fish and chips in a clean and friendly shop.

First time going here and wish had not of bothered. Asked for large fish and chips and got the tiniest fish ive ever had also super greasy and definately not a large cod or chips! £19 for a tiny piece of fish and smallest chips when again was charged for large cod and chips! Definately better portion sizes elsewhere!

Visited Walkers fish and chips restaurant today on a Saturday. Very quiet as it was past the lunchtime peak period. Very friendly staff. One serving and the other frying. Was attended to very quickly and efficiently. Had the fishcakes and chips, cod and chips with tea and pepsi. Waiting time for the meals not too long, especially as it was all cooked to order. Well presented and good portions. Would have like to have also had a lemon wedge but not to worry. Good portion of cod nicely battered with plenty of chips. The vinegar didn't seem to taste of anything even when putting loads on the food. Not sure if it was watered down ? The chips did taste bland unfortunately and also seemed very dry to taste. The cod itself was nice and moist but again the batter did seem bland. Not overly greasy but just no real taste. Perhaps if I could have tasted the vinegar and had the lemon it may have improved things. Overall it was nice but not outstanding. The two staff members seemed nice and friendly and that always goes a long way. I'll leave it at that 👍

We decided on fish and chips for our first chuck-out of 2023 and as The Wagon Wheel was closed, we opted for Walkers. Sorry to say we won’t be back. The chips were chewy, the fish was very oily and apparently this is a large cod (small battered sausage for scale).

Ist time in a long time....used to be bad, improved but this visit really not good! Won't be back,! Chips were awful...threw half away battered sausage was fine as I asked to be cooked fresh. Stick with Francines in future!!!

A lovely and clean chip shop with lots of tables. Plenty of value for money with the portion sizes, and that perfect level of too-good-to-stop-eating greasiness. Flavourful fish and fluffy chips.

Wow I’m shocked with the service , very poor and also no customer service at all The fish it’s not great and didn’t even ask me if I want take away or not , we sat at the table and the guy came up to us very rudely that we need to pay an extra 4 £. I would have understood if at least was less rude , but he was very discussed. And they served us small portion of fish but we bought a large one So I do now recommend

Avoid. Worst fish and chips weve ever had. Everything tasted of rancid oil. The chips were reheated, soggy and tasteless. The batter was dreadful and the fish was not at all fresh. Terrible in all respects.

Unfortunately the three meals we ordered were inedible.. two pieces of fish were obviously re-fried!..chewy and dry, the chicken pie had again obviously been re heated in a microwave because it was rock hard and unable to cut and the chips were just awful..dry and hard..AGAIN re fried from lunchtime!!..if I could’ve given less than one star I would have! This meal cost me £15 and that makes me very angry…£15 just tipped in the bin! 🤢🤢🤮

Cheaper than other ones near by but chips were chewy and dry as if re-heated. When chips are so easy to make it’s just annoying that they would be re-heated and charged full price.

Had food here before and it was so good, me and my partner were so disappointed this time, the chips were definitely recooked as they were so chewy and dry, literally felt like I was eating cardboard 🤢 the fish was actually good & the spicy curry sauce was amazing and it’s such fairly priced but the chips were just inedible, my whole meal went in the bin apart from the fish, very disappointed that you can serve old chips like that🥲

Popped in for a quick hunger fix, it was great value, will definitely be calling again

This has to be one of the worst places I have ever eaten. My daughters food had dark curly hair sticking out of the batter on her fish. Just happens that the owner had dark curly hair. When I complained there was no apology, just a disgusting look at us and an attempt to pull it free as if we had planted it! Be warned this place is disgusting.

Placed a order went to collect,walked out after the hygiene issues male staff coughing into arm hands then not washing never again, shame used to use a lot

Sorry to say, probably the worst fish & chips we’ve ever had. Visiting Cornwall for Xmas with my folks, and popped out to get a “treat” for tea last night. 🤢 The four portions of cod & chips were RANK. Chips were extremely greasy, along with the poor little bit of cod.

Food was stunning and was very reasonably priced too.

If you have heard of triple cooked chips be ready for 10 times cooked chips Almost inedible, like tough leather off cuts. So obviously well reheated time after time. Haddock was so so batter was like I sponge full of oil. Probably a different story for locals,Fresh chips .The girl serving was really nice and friendly.

We had cod, haddock, chips, mushy peas and baked beans and we ate in the restaurant. The staff were nice and friendly. The fish was crispy and nice, and the chips were yummy, proper chippy chips. I would definitely recommend.

Perfectly cooked fish with great batter, chips as they should be too. Don't buy any ketchup as hey charge extortionate amounts. What I bought was perfect, thanks

Worst fish chips i have ever had

Took my mum out for lunch yesterday and wow, it was amazing. Great food and very friendly service. No waiting time and very clean restaurant. Will highly recommend and definitely eat there again.

Very disappointed! Not a nice atmosphere sadly, we walked in (with our face covering on) sat down took them off A member of staff rushed over to tell us to get our masks back on and they could not come off until our food arrived she was very abrupt and rude saying these are the country’s rules didn’t we know! Just to add we were the only people in there it was dead. Once we’d ordered and were served through another member of staff we found the batter on the fish raw and very stodgy Plastic children’s cups were given with our can of Pepsi max which is fine we just didn’t use them. I just didn’t enjoy it one bit. I hate complaining and never leave reviews normally but I wasn’t happy I wouldn’t return and wouldn’t recommend to anyone unfortunately.

Amazing fish and chippy. Come all the way from WestMidlands and by far one of the best fish and chippy we have had. The cod was beautiful and so was the chips. Best of all barely any grease. One recommendation is to serve battered chips then I would put 6 stars. Will definitely come again when were back in town. Thank you to the very helpful and polite staff for the experience.

Me and My partner have been down in Cornwall for the weekend never been here before when entering the shop the staff were very polite and engaging they made me feel welcome, the food it's self was amazing chips soft but crispy and the fish was beautiful. Next time we're in Cornwall I will definitely be visiting again and wanted to wish best of luck to the new manager.

Great chips, great food Very busy

It could have been that we were the only customers sitting in there, but the fish and chips we had were lovely and freshly cooked with a nice little salad. Service very friendly and attentive. Even better, they were participating in the Eat out to Help Out scheme which we didn’t know, so it was really great value.

We sat in the restaurant for a lovely fish and chip dinner, the staff were extremely friendly, the food was delicious, the portion sizes were great and all at a very reasonable price. My 7 year old had nothing but good to say about this place and they also gave him a little bag of haribo (which is always a winner 😀)

I placed an order 2 x cod & chips and a battered sausage& chips over the telephone and was advised that it would be ready to collect in 15mins. Upon arrival to collect the order it became apparent that the order had been mislaid. 40 minutes later the order was ready - no problem as we all know mistakes happen sometimes . Got back home to unveil our dinner to find that the sausages were not in batter and the cod had been cremated :( not happy. Although orders can be mislaid / mixed up there was no excuse for deliberately serving cod that was so visibly overcooked and virtually inedible. Unfortunately had lost the will by that time - otherwise would have returned the goods and asked for a refund.

We wanted fish and chips in Truro and decided between Walkers or Soul Plaice. We are delighted we went for Walkers. Delicious fresh chips, a perfect cup of tea and flaky fish. The restaurant was recently refurbished and they took cleanliness seriously with hand gel and single use sachets (even for salt and vinegar). The Special for £8.25 for fish, chips, mushy peas and tea was great value. Highly recommended! Also very nice crockery which is rare for a chippy.

My experience of Walkers is ok, it's not an outstanding chippy but then again neither is it too expensive compared to others, it lays no claims to have won awards like designer chippies. The cod is well cooked with a frisson of the sea delicately enhanced with ample dressings of salt and vinegar. This has the ability to transport you back to childhood memories of fish and chips by the sea. However as you're facing sports direct any notions of childhood memories are dashed with the opportunity of cheap trainers. It's an okay chippy.

Just the best chippy in town. Fish is cooked to order so its lovely and fresh, we always call them with our order 1st so its ready to collect.

We had two pensioners set meal. Cod and chips with mushy peas, bread and butter and a lovely cup of tea. £15 for the both of us. Fantastic service and food . Lovely staff. I would highly recommend this place
