This place has got very expensive lately and it really grates that no prices in the bakery section are displayed. They basically can charge what they want which is wrong. Cakes have gone up AGAIN way above inflation. Buns that were £1 a year ago are now £1.60. Sorry they have lost me as a good customer after 10 years

Found by accident as near carpark, and attracted by the building which is beautiful. Tea room is upstairs. Good menu with specials. We had the tartfatell which seemingly is a Swiss dish and tasty. Onion, bacon potatoes in a cream sauce and melted cheese. I had the cheese onion tart both served with salad. Staff friendly and chatty in both cafe and bakery. Recommend

At just a little after half-past two in the afternoon, we entered what had been, up to then, our favourite Whitchurch tearoom. We asked politely, if we could have tea, coffee, a toasted sandwich and a toasted teacake. We were assures that this would be absolutely impossible, since all the kitchen equipment had been cleaned and could no longer be used, and we could only have cake. We asked, politely, that, given the earliness of the hour, could an exception not be made? We were assured most firmly that no exception whatsoever could be made, and that we could not have a toasted sandwich; neither could we have a toasted teacake. So we left. And we won't be coming back. And we'll tell our friends not to bother either, since simple customer requests at Walker's are clearly entirely secondary to the needs of staff.

I went into Walkers on a busy Friday morning, happy to wait outside for a minute or two as the shop was so full. When I got in to the shop there was a lady with her grandson who was getting a little muddled with her order. Despite the ladies being under pressure, the lady serving was not only calm and patient, but clearly recognised that her customer was struggling a little. She was so kind and encouraging, going way beyond the call of duty to help, it moved me immensely. We hear about our neighbours living with challenges such as Alzheimers and other similar conditions but do we help support such conditions? I think the team in Walker’s do and it’s very reassuring to think our rural shops want to help local residents. Thanks to the Walker’s team for being such a special part of our local community ❤️

We called by for some sandwiches and a cake to take away. Such a warm friendly service from the staff. We chose the seeded brown bread rolls for our sandwiches. The fillings were very generous portions and absolutely delicious. Cakes were amazing too we chose a custard slice and a Danish pastry. This was a real trip back to the 1980s. The Fair on offer was mediocre at best, though the prices were reasonable. I had asked for a toasted hot cross but and it was burnt. I had to ask for butter. And sugar for my tea. The bucket half full with brown gunge dripping from the ceiling was an interesting water feature. It wasn’t raining. The building would once have been lovely, but the room and furnishings are tired and in decay. Which takes me on to the staff who appeared to have been written by Victoria Wood to be performed by Julie Walters. Rude and bored. It appeared that we were disturbing them from doing something more important. I would only go back to take other to show them I wasn’t making it up!!

The very busy woman who served us was extremely helpful. She offered choices about the milk for coffee (which came with a little cake taster in the saucer) and made sure that we had just what we wanted. We tried the coronation chicken with baked potato (potato skin was soft rather than the nicer crunchy) and the same filling in a seeded baguette. As appropriate for a bakery, there was a good choice of types of bread for the baguette. Having searched on google for cafes in Whitchurch before travelling there last weekend, I actually phoned Walker's Bakery in advance to enquire if their tea room was dog friendly. I spoke to a gentleman, who said it would be fine as long as the dog was well behaved (which he is!) and I said I was looking forward to calling there and it would be on Saturday morning. Arrived in Whitchurch with my Mum and dog on Saturday morning and out of courtesy, we popped our head around the shop door and asked if it was OK to come in and explained that we had phoned in the day before to be given the go ahead. The lady behind the shop counter was quite abrupt and said that NO dogs are allowed in the café. I started to explain what the gentleman on the phone had said and she just interrupted me and said dogs aren't allowed in.I have no issue whatsoever with establishments being dog friendly or not but when I have made the effort to check this in advance, I expect to be given accurate information so that I can plan my visit. Fortunately, we found a café down the road that did welcome us and our dog.

Yes, the menus are laminated, but there was a good choice of food and the staff were very pleasant. We were surprised by how good value it was. We both went for the cream tea package where you get a drink, any sandwich and either a scone with cream and jam or 2 slices of bars brith. We cannot believe we visited the same café as most other reviewers. Greasy laminated menu cards, limited choice on display, sticky tables and the overpowering stench of disinfectant being used to mop the floors while we were eating. We ordered a meat pie (which we had to fetch from the shop - but it was good) and a cheese toasty without onions. It was made of thick bread and served with a sad, limp salad garnish ( with raw onions) and congealed coleslaw. A tin of lemonade was served with a dirty glass. The coffee was undrinkable. Although we commented when we paid, we were met with absolute indifference. The tea-room is described as having 'olde worlde charme' which should have warned us. The furniture is tired and the modern counter/service area has been thrown together without regard to the timbered beams which could look so good. The carpet could do with replacing, too.Altogether, this place is a disgrace and the owners need to rethink the business entirely.

You would imagine that having a very good location in a Roman Market Town would be the ideal ingredients for a perfect Tea Room. Sadly not so.First of all I should own up and say this is one of those rare occasions when we never actually got to the food - we walked out before! In attempting to be constructive it is difficult not to say just how bad this place is.Apathetic staff - terrible dated and tatty decor - broken toilet bowl - dirty hand dryer - all result in virtually no customers in what must be the best location in the town. What makes this so astounding is that on the ground floor appears to be a good bakery providing a range of cakes. Sadly they do not make it up the stairs! There the offering is one sad looking slice of I am not sure what. I can never work out why staff who clearly have no affinity with customer service actually work in a retail environment. This has all the hallmarks of a business which has run out of steam and is in decline. I would imagine that during the Summer months Whitchurch attracts its fair share of Tourists - if this is what they have to offer Tourist Information will have their work cut out.Did we find an alternative - yes - a place called Benjamin's. Now the contrast could not have been any more different - so much so we started to feel we were part of some reality TV programme where you are exposed to the very worst and then the very best. See the review.

called in here for lunch today, my wife had the lasagne, very creamy, big serving chips to die for, i opted for the bacon, potato and creamy sauce tartlet topped with grilled cheese and a side order of their fantastic chips.really needed somewhere to curl up and sleep off the after effects of this wonderful meal, we will be repeat visiting many times in the near future

Beautiful timbered dining room above a bakers shop. Had a nice traditional afternoon tea with a friendly welcome.

Found this tea room above the bakery for a snack lunch. Very pleasant staff and good menu. Just had soup and homemade roll and cheese toastie. Both prepared freshly and brought to the table. Very nice and the home cooked meal looked good again so we will revisit when next in the area.

The food here was amazing part from the (lady) who served me , she's a nasty , very rude and obnoxious person , saying she's a lady is far from the truth. I don't think she has anytime left for training , but she surly needs to boot, the whole experience was spoilt by her behaviour.

We were camping nearby, and wanted a quick snack at midday, nothing special. Walker's attracted us because it is double fronted, very attractive in an Olde Worlde way, with a deli/bakery downstairs and a cafe upstairs. Trade looked brisk, so we headed upstairs, where there is a separate counter at which you place your order (pay on exit).Although the menu is short and 'the usual' for a cafe, there is a small sentence at the bottom that alerts customers to the fact that they will serve anything that is for sale in the deli, a nice touch but one that ought to be made more of, perhaps. We choose panini's but the 'machine' was broken so we changed that order to toasted sandwiches instead. There are suggested fillings but you can basically choose anything that they stock, which again isn't clear on the menu, however the very helpful assistant pointed that out. The tea and coffee were both great, however the food took an age to arrive (staff were very apologetic) so we have finished our drinks by the time the toasties arrived. This seemed to be in common with other customers too. But what toasties they were; the bread was so tasty, and the fillings were plentiful and tasty themselves. The salad garnish was 'ordinary' but was most definitely playing the supporting role anyway. I would say that these were the tastiest toasties that I have had in a long time. Watch the stairs on the way out, they seem steeper than when coming up.

Visited this lovely country pub following recommendations from neighbours. The menu is small but full of home made dishes. As a group of 4 we enjoyed chicken and Stilton pie and vegetables, gammon, sweetcorn, chips and pineapple, chilli con carne and a really meaty pork chop, chips and peas. Really good home cooked food so much better than the normal pub grub. It also means the menu changes regularly. Sensibly priced making eating out a pleasure. Desserts just had to be tried. The whisky bread and butter pudding was suitably named and the apple crumble with custard was a winner too. The Sunday roast advertised at £9.30 will have to be tried another weekend. Delicious home cooked food is always so much better than bought in dishes. We praised the chef and June for a lovely warm welcome and a great meal.

The cafe is efficiently run and we enjoyed the rooftop seating in the sun today. Unfortunately the scone was stale. Quite a shocker for me! What a shame :(

I must echo the views of others. A really lovely restaurant spoiled by sparrows landing on the the table where cakes are being cut and on uncleared tables. Very unhygienic - there must be a way to stop them coming into the tearooms. Never encountered it anywhere else. Health and safety would have a field day!
