Lovely setting and pleasant staff. Priced reasonable. We chose a double afternoon tea. The sandwich were really delicious and fresh. Lots of filling. The scone was hard, but I asked to change and got a delicious warm soft scone as a replacement. Lots of tea and moist light cake. Sensible afternoon tea, not too much cake.

Visited on a quiet afternoon and disturbed the staff chatting.... they did continue at a volume where we heard everything! (Even though we sat in the window the furthest distance from counter). Our main gripe was the horrible cakes. Looked lovely and promised so much. My husband had coffee and walnut and which he ate but he didn't know why! Mine was Victoria sandwich, dry and the cream was so bad, not real cream or buttercream. If you are of a certain age is was like synthetic cream that was used in cakes 50 years ago. Not asked if all ok even though it was left. Hope that the waitress father's step daughter got her cards back!!!! Please, please have a smaller choice but home made rather than bought in frozen cakes. You must be missing out on repeat custom.

The cakes were a let down. A flavourless chocolate cake and a stale brownie. Butter cream tasted like it wasn’t made with real butter and the tea was average. A disappointment. Not awful but disappointing.

Arrived 1.30pm on New Years Eve, rare I leave anyone negative feedback on here and this gives me no pleasure other than to tell the management to wake up, this was a pointless visit I won’t ignore because it should be a great place. We were seated and left with the menu for a good ten minutes upon ordering I asked for a jacket potato to be told they’d run out. So it was a choice of bread, bread, bread or errrrr bread so I just opted for a cup of tea and a bottle of water. My husband who had also been disappointed on the spud option asked for toasted crumpets which arrived 20 minutes later as what can only be described as crunchy. It was then that we observed there was no adult working that we could see, these lovely polite girls were doing their best but when you get a look into the kitchen and see what looks like a 17 year old lady running a kitchen alone with about 70 covers it’s no wonder a crumpet goes wrong and diners aren’t warned prior what is not available on the menu. The menu is very limited so it requires little skill, sandwiches and panini etc but at least staff it sufficiently, it’s too much responsibility on such a young team. Had I been forewarned what foods were not available i would have gone elsewhere but by the time we had ordered my husband was borderline “hangry”. This hunger was the only reason he didn’t send the crumpets back, we aren’t shy to raise a complaint but there was point having this dialogue with such a young girl who was trying her best and we didn’t wish to wait for replacement food. Nice premises but just not worth the disappointment. Nice loo though.

Not knowing Shrewsbury that well we came across Camellias by chance. Inside we were met and offered a choice of tables. There was a good choice of food available on the menu. The food was fresh and tasty and plenty of it. A large pot of tea kept my partner happy. Prices were what I would expect in a tea room like this. The only down side was that the waiter handed me my glass of coke by the rim which is not an hygienic way to serve drinks. Overall our experience was good.

Went for a nice coffee on Saturday afternoon. A polite young girl showed me to a table which was filthy, food on the seat and all over the floor. When I mentioned this it seemed to throw her completely and I was directed to another table which was just the same. The place was not even busy. I left and ended up at another far cleaner independent coffee shop which was also better value. This is not the first time we have been disappointed here, but since the web site has no contact dtails for feedback we have posted here instead. With all the excellent independent eateries in Shrewsbury, this place is going to need to up its game.

Visited this tea room whilst shopping in Shrewsbury. It was quite empty at lunchtime but the weather was bad so we didn’t think too much of it. We were shown to our table by a young male who advised us we couldn’t sit at our preferred choice of table as it was for 4 and there were 2 of us. As we were choosing from the menu another couple entered and were sat at the table we asked for - no-one joined them......and they were served and received their food long before us. Whe; our food eventually arrived it was poorly presented and bland. The cafe is in a lovely location and has so much potential but it has an air of not thinking it has to try too hard as it is linked to a hotel.

We were looking for somewhere for a decent cup of tea and something to eat mid afternoon and came across Camellias near the church. It was clean and spacious with a number of tables occupied. Afternoon tea looked like a good option and we weren’t disappointed with the choice of sandwiches all of which were tasty and a good size. The scone, jam and cream were tasty too, so why the 3 stars? The Victoria sandwich and chocolate cakes had a very sickly, false tasting buttercream type filling. This was a real disappointment as the sponges were light and tasty.

Stopped here for lunch, alarm bells should have rung when we saw it was just about empty while most of the other places were heaving. I ordered a cheese and tomato toasted sandwich, my partner had a BLT. My sandwich was the worst I've ever had, it was three slices of toast with the smallest amount of cheese I've ever seen in it, the tomato was cut into chunks not sliced. The side salad was limp assorted lettuces leaves, minus the supposed dressing that it was supposed to come with. The BLT was slightly better, I mean only slightly. The bread for both sandwiches seemed to be of the cheapest kind, the butter was just about none existent on the BLT, again the tomato was hacked into chunks, the only postive point was the bacon. We both left a substantial amount of these sandwiches. I did complaint to the waitress when she cleared the plates away. To be fair we were not charged for the toasted sandwich. We would never visit this establishment again, the excuse I got was that the girl was new that had made the sandwiches. They should try and put some filling in their sandwiches and stop using poor quality produce. The price is outrageous for what you are served.

Visited on 28th December 2017 for a warming cuppa on a cold winters day. There were 6 of us and they soon found us a table. Unfortunately the sun was bright and low (as is the norm in the winter) and with no curtains/blinds the sun streaming in meant we couldn’t see anything so we asked to move and they duly obliged. Staff were pleasant and helpful, especially as they all appeared to be quite young but it was the food that let it down (plus the price and poor VFM). Bread seemed to be fairly cheap sliced loaf rather than something a little more ‘upmarket’. My son ordered a brown baguette but got white instead. Fillings were ok but accompanied by a limp looking salad. I had a cream tea and to be fair it tasted ok but was a little expensive for the size of scone/ amount of cream and jam I received. Overall not an awful experience but we won’t be rushing back as we felt that the £40+ bill we received at the end wasn’t reflected in the quality of food and drink we were served with.

The tea was delivered but the teacake never arrived so when I went to pay I mentioned this to the lad behind the till. He giggled, said he had seen a teacake in the kitchens and thought I'd had mine ( I was sat opposite the till) . He did say a quick "sorry " but that was it. Despite having walked by Camellias Tea Rooms on several occasions previously I had never really taken much notice. However, while wandering around Shrewsbury without the kids we were attracted by the potential comfort of a sofa visible through a window. Once inside, a very pleasant lady welcomed us and we sat down. The menu had a good selection of sandwiches, paninis, jacket potatoes and cakes. I ordered a cafetière (£2.80 I think) which stretched to four cups of coffee (all for me!). The cherry bakewell was unnecessary but tasted great. This is not a criticism but I felt my wife and reduced the average age of the customers present by about 15 years. This may have been due to the time of our visit (early lunch) but they had a good kids menu so we will go back with the kids. I would advise people to call in, particularly those have walked by thinking it looked too expensive, you will be very pleased once inside. Highly recommended.

Enjoyed our coffee breaks and light lunches here on a two day visit to Shrewsbury. Quality fittings and furnishings and welcoming staff. Food excellent. Grand piano in a corner playing soothing background music. So relaxing.

If you fancy an afternoon tea on a budget this is the place. £11.95 per person. We had sandwiches and baguettes though, kids meals are big. Nice place, good service, lovely loos. But a bit canteen like.
