This is a regular pop in for small lunch whilst shopping. 2 problems Why give tiny plate for chicken burger & chips? I always have to ask for normal plate. The 2nd there is a sign in the restaurant saying ONLY FOOD TO BE EATEN IF PURCHASED FROM THIS RESTAURANT I fully agree with this BUT when we visited for lunch on Monday there were ten teenagers with rucksacks all consuming their own food out of plastic containers & others eating food purchased in the store taking up all the middle of the restaurant. I asked at the information desk why do they let people eat their own food in the restaurant his answer - “THE MANAGEMENT DOSE NOT LIKE CONFRONTATION , SO THEY WON”T SAY ANYTHING!”. Come on Waitrose wake up & get your act together!

How the mighty have fallen. This used to be a prestigious grocers shop, one of the best. It has now turned into an empty shell of its previous incarnation. Dreadful, dreary empty shelves, not of the more esoteric items but basics such as bread, coke and vegetables. They even print notices to tell us there’s no stock presumably to hide the empty shelves behind.Fresh items far past their best. Chicken with that yellow colouring that indicates bacterial contamination. I note they have had a bust up with Warburton and have dumped their rather nice product to champion Prince Charlie’s sourdough and their own dull cut bread. The patisserie that used to be spectacular at the old CMK store has sunk to a level below Lidl. Boring stale buns! The staff! Ha! Used to be charming, helpful and welcoming; and some still are, have turned into a dull, demotivated and rude workforce. Spoke to a number of their management team recently. Waitrose you should be so concerned at their lack of enthusiasm and the impression they have just given up. I am told that they do have a management problem in MK. It shows! I took the trouble to call Waitrose HQ. The gentleman typed as I spoke with no dialogue. He promised that someone would speak to me. He gave me a number. He sent me an email. Did anybody respond? Of course not! Waitrose supports John Lewis financially. My judgement is that both will fail. The Board and the CEO has destroyed John Lewis taking it downmarket to compete with The Range and Dunelm. They are now taking Waitrose to a similar low level but with extortionate prices. I will take my significant yearly spend elsewhere and urge everybody to do likewise. Then, and only then might Waitrose and their inept senior management listen.

Went about 3 in the afternoon. Stood at counter for about 10 mins, finally someone come out from the back to serve me. Ordered traditional breakfast. Bacon seemed like it was boiled and cold Sausages were shrivelled up and really dark. I complained and was told another was on its way. It came out in mins. Sausage was half cooked and looked white in parts, I’m sure it was cooked in microwave, it was hard and chewy. Again bacon was cold and had less on my plate this time. Mushroom was half cooked and the tomato was raw and just cut in half. For the breakfast and coffee it was £10.40. I took it back got a refund and just had coffee. It was not busy and a really poor breakfast considering the price. Won’t be going there again. A constant stream of school kids coming to use the toilets. Don’t they have toilets in their school?

As per usual called in here after shopping on Saturday lunch, still cannot understand why they don’t sell soup & a roll, they have shelves stacked in the store but not in the cafe. So what I ordered was a chicken burger with onion rings, sat down to eat it but no onion rings! asked the waitress the reply “There’s a notice as you come into the restaurant (not on the menu)that we have run out of them” however they still charge for them & cannot substitute them with anything else. Why because the “Till won’t” allow it. Is this progress or is the world going mad? Coffee was good though

I decided to visit waitress, as an ex partner of the city branch. Brought my misses from outside of Milton Keynes to show off the branch, but the security guard at the oakgroave branch was rude. He pointed out we used the exit as an entrance (which in itself was fine), however he condescendingly held us at the entrance stating his grievance. However upon leaving 15 minutes later, he made a conscious effort to state "you see! thats how you use the exit". As an ex partner of the branch who gave up 3-4 years working at their mk city branch, I was a bit shocked. I won't be shopping there myself, and hope my old colleagues don't think less about that decision. I've given this review 2 stars as my old colleagues were fine.

I frequent the café in Waitrose on a regular basis. It is generally excellent. The food is good, if a trifle expensive compared to other similar eateries. The staff a friendly, the service is usually excellent and the whole place is pleasant and you can usually find a place to sit and eat your food and it's kept clean and tidy. But this particular Sunday I came in to have a latte, cheese toastie and one of the excellent cakes which are always a treat. But . . . this particular Sunday I can't think what went wrong. I handed over my toastie, which you take from the display and give to staff to heat. I took my tray of bits and pieces and sat at a table, drinking my coffee and waited . . .and waited . . . and waited. Eventually, my patience at breaking point (normally I'm patient, but this was beginning to get at me.) I went to the till and asked the girl there where had my heated toastie got to? By now I had waited at least 40 minutes. I mentioned, under my breath, that I'd give them a lower rating on Tripadvisor, and by the time I'd got back to my seat, my toastie arrived and a few minutes later a staff member was offering me a free drink. Was it to pacify me, or to get me to write a better review? Who knows. But I have to say that the service in this café has been steadily declining over the past few months. Waitrose needs to take on more staff if they are to keep this café open on a Sunday, and if they don't (it would seem most of the problems are because there aren't enough staff behind the counter and on this occasion it wasn't particularly busy.) they will not keep regular customers. I for one won't bother going there any more, which is a shame as I like it.

I needed refreshment, and what better place to come than Waitrose's café? A really pleasant atmosphere, with no annoying canned music, so at least you can think and, if possible, hold a conversation and be heard. A really exquisite selection of food, sandwiches, rolls, cakes etc. On this particular occasion there wasn't a long queue, so the wait to be served was shorter than it was the last time I was in here. I selected an egg and watercress sandwich, something called a Yum-Yum, which was exactly that, as well as a latte. Staff are efficient and attentive, know their jobs and serve you promptly. The tables are kept cleared and wiped and there was, on this occasion, plenty of space to sit, eat and drink. All together a pleasant enough experience

Visited this restaurant for lunch and tried the burger and chips side. Staff were friendly and atmosphere is okay, however the food was very average. Considering the two items combined cost £8 I would've expected a slightly bigger portion size and for the chips to be slightly more seasoned. The burger itself was cooked nicely. It was clear that tables were sometimes not attended to as mine in particular was dirty from the previous customer. Overall this is somewhere to eat after your shopping, but will likely not go out of my way to visit again.

we do a small weekly shop and like to either fit in breakfast or lunch...we both ordered cheese on toast and it was so overdone, it was very crispy. The cutlery had egg caked on it. This week we had a toasted sandwich for lunch and was ok. Had to wait quite a time. However, there were many tables free, but cluttered with previous customers dishes, had to clear a table and wipe it down ourselves. Looking around tables remained uncleared or cleaned during our stay. Surprised, get the feeling there is no proper system in place and too laid back as important aspects are being neglected. Love the vibe and truly appreciate the non stress/no noise vibe, but could be much improved on whilst maintaining a relaxing atmosphere.

If they can call the smaller breakfast value for money, it beggars belief. A very small tomato, a small egg, a foul tasting sausage and biscuit dry toast. The bacon was minute and quite tasteless. On obtaining the cutlery for this anticipated feast a knife was pulled out of the receptacle with more food left on it than had been washed off, and it looked disgusting. Others had water stains and other food remnants, not a good start for this supposed upmarket grocer. When you eventually get your breakfast it is served in a bowl not a plate and which makes it difficult to cut, and as it was all so hard you were continually banging the side of the bowl in your attempt to get to your breakfast. Have been customers of Waitrose for many years and standards have slipped a great deal, we came away very disappointed and upset that we had wasted £16.00+ on such awful and poorly served food.

My wife and I had been for an appointment at Milton Keynes Hospital, so we needed a pleasant treat, hence our visit to Waitrose's café. A short-ish queue at the till, but not really a problem, giving us time to decide what we'd have to eat with our lattes. With our My Waitrose cards we had our drinks free, which makes it worth a visit. A pleasant environment without piped music, which makes a change from some other similar places we visit for a snack. The latte was far better than the average coffee outlet and the Danish pastry was excellent. Clean and tidy café, with the tables cleared and wiped regularly and plenty of places to sit and eat, including comfortable sofas and armchairs. Having read other reviews on here, I could see no signs that the place is dirty or slow service. No doubt if there was, then these problems have been dealt with.

Don't really know why I visit this restaurant as the service is abysmal -fortunately I only use it when I am rarely in the store but this was one of these times.Usual problem - one member of staff looking after a till AND having to deal with hot drink making. If they were short staffed, I could understand it but this time 4 members of staff were around and if they weren't having conversations amongst themselves, they were popping in and out the kitchen but as far as I could see, for no apparent reason yet the poor woman on the customer side of the counter had a queue of 4 people waiting.4 may not seem a large number, and it isn't, but it still took the last person in line over 10 minutes to get through the payment process. Was the place busy? No, only 7 customers sitting at tables, all served and munching away so why the delay.Sad but I am afraid another bad experience. Perhaps the management of this cafe need to visit it 'undercover' to see for themselves.

Waitrose in Oakgrove is a relatively new store, so was built with a spacious cafe. The menu is the usual mix of sandwiches and cakes, and the coffee here seems uniformly reliable - much better than in most coffee shops. The downside is that you often have to queue and they don't really seem to have enough staff to serve customers promptly. They also often run out of their scones, which they will warm on request (but only adding to the queuing time for the people behind you...!It's kept clean, but unlike some branches there's nowhere to place you tray, so it relies on the staff to clear up.

Sometimes I go here and it's fabulous; great, quick service and the place looks tidy and cared for and other times, like today, it's terrible! I rarely dine alone except when in hotels for business. But having done my supermarket shop this seemed like an easy option for a quick lunch. The staff were cheerful and friendly but for a store that was featuring "healthy options" in its entrance displays and on gondola ends the cafe seemed badly aligned. The dining concentrated heavily on cakes, tarts and sandwiches. There were a few salads and some hot dishes but only a couple of the menu items showed the calorie values. I wouldn't expect that of other diners but somehow I expected it of Waitrose Cafe.I chose the minestrone soup and it was excellent - really full bodied with plenty of vegetables. I then followed with a cherry turnover and coffee. No complaints , it was all of good quality. This is clearly a regular haunt for some - a place for friends to meet, particularly with comfortable sofas and arm chairs. For those seated solo there were newspapers to read. I love coffee, everyday, that they give me just because they want to. And frankly, I'm exactly the sort of person that other Waitrose customers complain about. I don't wear tweed. I don't name my children after African root vegetables. I have no wish to eat olives (they really are the devils testes) and polenta is simply poncey play doh. However, the staff are lovely, the food is great, their 'Pure' range of toiletries is both effective and inexpensive and did I mention the coffee? Complaints about missing sugar tongs, dishwasher impacted trays and such like are, I suspect, made by people whose idea of fun is writing a strongly worded letter to the Daily Mail, suggesting it was 'so much better before those wispy washy Europeans came on the scene'. I am not sure we will bother to return, as it was one of those days when everything went wrong! They had run out of cold soft drinks other than Cranberry or Coke. The queue to order took ages, and the order of two burgers and chips when it came was ok, but the burger was bijou and lots of chips, nice burger relish, but no mayo or ketchup offered or on hand. The station to get cutlery and sugar was not topped up and they were out of coffee sugar. A visit to the loo, and they had no soap, with paper towels overflowing from a large bin over the floor. It was pretty obvious the person who fills the sugar and soaps etc., or overseas said was not in. Two senior staff were having a long conversation standing in the restaurant oblivious to customers. Not what you want after paying £10 each for a burger and cold drink! Next time it will be McDonalds!

Really, I have seldom been more frustrated in a cafe and I wished I had done the takeaway option! The staff really do need to be trained in serving more than one person at a time. They are incredibly polite but could not organise a p... up in a brewery! What is more, they seem totally unaware of how customers feel, having waited over twenty minutes for them to serve (I counted) twelve hot drinks in total! And, the tables do not seem to have a system of being cleared. I and several other customers were piling cups and trays etc. in order to sit down. When, after begging, someone did come and wipe the table with a suspect cloth, I noticed that there was a lot of debris on the floor. I thought I had just been unfortunate in following a previously messy customer but, on closer examination, I could see a layer of muck and debris over the whole floor. When is it cleaned? It was only 10.00 am when I visited. I shan't bother to treat myself again! The coffee and drinks were okay but were not worth the wait. For goodness' sake, get a manager to sort the place out!!!!

We went here expecting to be served a good breakfast but left feeling very disappointed with the entire experience.Basically, it all comes down to indifferent management and a belief that you don't have to try too hard because the Waitrose brand will do all the work for you.Issue 1: there was just one person at the counter serving - so service was painfully slow. If you have a large queue, how about adding more counter staff?Issue 2: the coffees were watery, bland and tasteless. There is a big expensive coffee machine which hasn't been set up & calibrated correctly and the staff are obviously not trained to use it.Issue 3: trays, cutlery, chinaware are grubby - cleaned to the Ikea standard?Issue 4: tables are not cleared or cleaned - that task seems to have been delegated to your customers.Issue 5: food... Grey tasteless Pancakes without the bananas and the other bits promised on the menu. Cold miserable "full" English breakfast.Issue 6: Price, if I wanted bad food, poor hygiene and indifferent service I'd go to a greasy spoon dive, but I went to Waitrose and paid top-dollar, so should get something much much better.Waitrose management - get a grip on this facility, it's driving your reputation down.

The staff at counter are very good and coffee is always excellent however I have 2 beefs about this cafe.1. The trays, which are new, are stained and look really filthy. Presumably they go thru the dishwasher but something is wrong and It looks very bad.2. Sugar lumps, so nice to see, have no tongs and people just grab them with their fingers. This is a recognised health risk and laboratory tests have highlighted many contaminants are on peoples hands which are crossed to sugar cubes. Please Waitrose can you sort this out?

Absolutely filthy walks, floors & tables. Food was ok, but put off by the state of the place, couldn’t see kitchen. 2 blokes in their phones behind counter. Shame
