There is no cafe here that I could find actually, only a coffee machine by the entrance, which is free if you make a purchase in store and take your own cup with you.

had a snack of soup, and a mug of hot chocolate. some nice cakes are available, as are snacks for lunch time. a little bit more pricey for cakes and drinks, but a good place to sit and chat to friends.

The staff in this coffee shop are very friendly and funny, Tinny being one. I quite often have my lunch break here.

We stop here all the time between shops and have never had an issue with the service. We normally buy a coffee but have stopped mid-shop a few times. Until today. Just bought our lunch and stopped to feed our baby in the cafe before we do our full shop. The staff kicked us out because we hadn’t bought any food in the cafe! Never mind the Waitrose receipts we have for our lunch, snacks and baby milk; we must buy something from the counter. 30p babuccino later they allow us to sit back down after causing a fuss about making us leave. If you do decide to stop here the coffee isn’t great for the price and the mint tea is actually just boiled water with a mint leaf in. The babyccino is particularly poor and comes served cold.

Love to stop for a cuppa in the cafe whilst out shopping or on lunch break. Staff are so friendly and can not do enough for you! Would just like to see a bit more hot food on the menu!

Popped in for a coffee. Tables clean. Prices ok. Staff ok. Tasted fine. Good enough to rest my legs for a bit.

Where do I start, menu availability...looked at the menu board, while 3 staff watched us select items that were not available. Why couldn’t they introduce themselves and say we have a limited menu today...it doesn’t take much to talk to your guests. Eventually we chose our hot food. We sat at a table that needed a good clean, not a squirt of D10 and a cursory wipe. Each server had hair issues, 2 of them constantly touched their faces and hair. No hand washing or gel use evident during our 30 minute stay. The food was ok, the coffee was machine made, so no bother there. My final issue was the return of dirty crockery, which is done over the condiments station which will be eventually contaminate and cause an illness. I don’t write this lightly, I have worked in environments like this all my life so have some professional knowledge. I tried to find a supervisor but no one could be identified as management. Utterly disappointed, you have to sort out the HACCP and staff training, you must manage the area better. The butchery and fish counter hygiene are exemplary, so it can be done at this site.... This review is the subjective opinion

The Latte was lovely & hot plus lovely cakes/pastries to treat yourselves too well worth a visit whether shopping or meeting friends. A little crowded at times with people, trolley’s especially if in a wheelchair like I.

We went in here after doing some shopping in the store . There were dirty cups on the table , no forks for your cake , when I asked the girl about the forks she was unhelpful . Lots of other places to try , wouldn't go in there again very disappointed .

Nice re-baked pastries and attractive looking cakes, but very indifferent service. You really feel as though you are a nuisance asking the staff to stop talking and serve. It could be nice with different staff

This is a fairly newly opened cafe but it is a shame that the management here only have one staff member working during the busy lunch hour period between 12 and 2pm and quite ridiculous to have two members of staff who are going to lunch during the busiest times, leaving only one staff member to do everything! Waitrose needs to employ more staff for their cafe obviously. It is not fair on customers who are left standing in line, waiting to be served for over 10 minutes, just to get a coffee or a drink and something to eat. Many customers walked away, whilst we were there, as they felt it was taking too long to get served. The lunch time food is not clearly displayed either - there is a very small and heavy menu on top of the display cabinet and that is all. There was very little left to eat at 1pm when we went here. I asked if there was a soup of the day and the lady serving said she didn't think there was any soup that day, she went to a cupboard to check and said "no, none came in today". So things like this are not freshly prepared either. There were packets of savoury items like paninis and croque monsiers which you could get heated up - I had the latter - priced at £4.50 and asked for it to be heated. It was put in an oven type heater but it tasted like it had been done in a microwave and was overdone in parts :( I also had a latte coffee, which if you have a "MyWaitrose" card, you get completely free of charge if you are buying things in Waitrose. The coffee was lovely. My husband had a slice of chocolate and salted caramel cake - which he loved and a diet coke which he said was good. I wouldn't go here again unless they get more staff and better savoury food.

When the next day, you’re still talking about how bad the service was, and watch every table you arrived before get served, eat, and leave. Literally lunch was over before we got served our lunch. Service was friendly on arrival, but that’s when it ended too. No one wanted the warm-ish food when it finally arrived. We didn’t leave a tip, and that’s super rare to annoy us that much.

It was quiet for our Xmas do though we may have been the first to have a big group event :) We had the festive menu. The carvery was lovely, however if veg is left on hotplate too long it can be bit hard - not sure if there's another solution to this. Some in the group were not overly enamoured with the Mac 'N' Cheese, felt it was not cheesy enough. The chips were overcooked which came wit the burger. Overall, it was a super evening, lovely venue and welcoming staff.

I’ve been to this place a few times now, when flying to and from Gatwick Airport. I’ve always been impressed by the staffs politeness and courtesy, going that extra mile. They are very dog friendly with treats at the bar, and water bowls provided. There has been a hansom, well behaved, and affectionate Australian kelpie dog there on a few of my visits. The rooms are reasonably priced have been consistently clean, tidy and comfortable during my stay. I would not hesitate to recommend The Plough Inn to any other traveller or patron.

Tried the Hay Waggon, which is under new ownership. Great barbecue with seafood kebabs and amazing local rump steak. Homemade ice creams are to die for. All served up in a wonderful garden
