What a dissapointment. Booked tablet for 7pm our starter was served on burnt enamel oven dishes with 5 mushrooms for the breaded mushrooms starter. Waited 50 mins for the main. Mixed grill all the meat was burnt black as charcoal underneath. Hunters chicken cooked so much it could not be cut with a knife. Ended up getting our money back.

Decided to give it a go, as last time we went it was the previous owners, but reading great reviews about the new owners and great food, we thought let's try it. We walked in, I went straight to the carvery, the roast potatoes were all burnt the veg looked like it had been there all day, the meat was dry, so we decided to leave and go to the toby, which was spot on. Gutted as thought it was going to be nice, so no I won't be returning.

It was our first time visiting The Holly Blue at the weekend and we couldn't fault our experience! The lovely staff gave us a warm welcome and it was clear to see how popular the pub was. The adults and kids in our large group all had carveries, the choice and quality of food was fantastic. We highly recommend this pub & we can't wait to return!

Good food, good service and not bad prices. Nice family style atmosphere, friendly and warm. Good parking with disabled spaces and easy entrance . We went in there again almost 6 months later and it was dire. The food was so bad we didn't finish, once it was good, Unfortunately not anymore. Won't be going back.

Stopped by after remembrance day parade for a bite to eat. Guy at the booking in desk noticed I was a veteran and informed me veterans get a free drink on this day. He was very polite and thanked me for my service. All the other staff were also very good. As for the food, I had roast beef and it was excellent. Not a bit of fat or gristle. Far superior than Toby Carvery. .

It's the carvery that's the main attraction here. During the week it's five quid cheaper.

It was our first time here. It was a midweek visit and quite early, around 12:00 . We opted for the carvery. It was very tasty with a good selection of vegetables. I only have one criticism and that was it was served on cold plates. I can understand why, health and safety etc. The carvery was very popular and very good value for money. We had jam sponge and custard for desert, very nice. The staff were very helpful. The log fire was just getting into gear, very nice and cosy. We will definitely visit again.

Best sirloin steak ever! The new management have really turned Holly Blue around. I've been back about five times and had different food each time and it was all really well made. The service was great and the staff were all really helpful. Definitely recommend eating here.

We had the carvery when we visited Holly Blue and it was outstanding. Great choices of meat, amazing Yorkshire puddings, choice of different potatoes including perfect roast potatoes, lots of yummy vegetables to choose from and great gravy. Aside from the great food, fantastic quick and personable service from very friendly staff. Will most certainly be back and will recommend to friends and family.

Booked family meal for 7 people as it was my sister's and nephew's birthday. I have food intolerances and found their interactive menu really helpful and I was able to filter out what I could not eat. The food and service was excellent.

Good customer service did not come in to it. We weren’t actually shown to our table it was just pointed out, no asking if we had been before and knew what to do. We had to ask for cutlery. There was only one draught bitter (Hob Goblin) available, not to my husbands taste. The carvery itself was very poor, servings of meat were minty. Only the very end bits of meat left, which I think they were trying to make do for all customers. When half my slice of turkey dropped off before it reached my plate, the carver was not going to give it to me had I not asked for it. The selection of veg was poor and needed replenishing. I had to ask the staff not to take down the Halloween decorations around us while we eating. Overall the place looked and felt dirty. The only good thing was the desserts. I will not be recommending the Holly Blue.

Very impressed right from the online booking system to the end if our visit. Staff were extremely attentive, explaining re allergies etc with the food. We ordered from the carvery and also from the menu. Staff let us know when our menu order was nearly ready so the person with carvery could get theirs and we all eat at the same time. Decor at this time was Halloween and very tastefully done. Tables were cleared and cleaned and the bar was spotless. The meal was hot and cooked beautifully. There was no 'rush' to complete your meal and go. We felt very welcomed and elected to have Puddings which were equally as delicious. Was pleasantly surprised with value for money, especially when using the 30% off mains voucher which arrived through our letterbox. Will definately recommend and we hope to visit again soon when time allows.

A very nice menu plenty of choice,well laid out with a good easy to read design. The food we ordered was delivered in good time all correct and nicely presented. The portion size was very good,not too much as is sometimes the case. Staff very friendly facilities were very clean. A good experience all round. Well done.

Not a busy time, but was getting busier when we left. The chips were great everything else we had was good but the chips were outstanding. No background music, brilliant. A repeat visit today. My fish and chips was great. My wife had the cheese,leek,and potato pie which was bad. The top was burnt black and the filling hard and dry. We complained and had a refund. By then it was too late to reorder but at least she had a starter. Ladies toilets poor, no soap and floor flooded.

Love the Holly blue, they treated me so well for my birthday and are always welcoming ,food is delicious 😋 staff are delightful and will help if you need special diet,just lovely

The halloween children’s party was run so well. My little boy had the best time and enjoyed all of the yummy food on offer as well. The colouring sheets at the table were a nice touch as my son can sometimes get overwhelmed so when the dance floor was too full he had something to do to calm down. We really hope this becomes a yearly occasion because we would definitely be there!

Wow what a pub! I visisted the Holy blue on Sunday 27th of October with a group of 8 friends. The pub was absolutely brilliant, live music on a Sunday while enjoying a beautifully cooked carvery which was extremely reasonable priced for the amount of food you can help yourself too! I couldn’t fault one thing at all staff were polite and extremely attentive. As someone that eats out regularly, I can happily say what a great stable to the Eastbourne area. Amazing pub! Amazing food! Amazing staff! What else could you ask for? Special shout out to the young man who took care of our group name Charlie! An overall great experience will definitely be seeing you all again soon!

I was tasked with finding somewhere for my family and I to go for a nice Sunday roast. My brother and his 7 year old were visiting from London, the inlaws were out, my elderly mother was there and I was there with my partner and 3 year old. Having booked on the website initially for 6 people, then phoning them up to add two extras to our booking which seemed fine, we arrived to find quite a loud live singer there. Now, we love a bit of live music and the singer was actually pretty good. But then, we were told that our table was directly next to him and his speakers! Naturally, we weren't pleased with this, so when I challenged it, I was told, "well, it was advertised". Now, I accept that the entertainment may have been advertised, and I accept that we'd have happily had our family Sunday roast listening to his dulcet tones. But I do not accept that a table next to his speakers with him literally performing next to us was appropriate, regardless of how low the volume was. We were next to it and couldn't hear each other. Fortunately, it was a nice afternoon and we ended up layering up and sitting outside where music was actually quite pleasant, if a little chilly. If the owners/management monitor these reviews, please write off the table next to the entertainment. It's ludicrous to think that anyone might want to eat there and it made what should have been a lovely family get together a considerable disappointment. The service on the other hand wasn't bad at all and the food, whilst not gourmet was tasty, if a little average. I'd like to go back, because the pub itself has so much potential and could be really good. But I think my family would probably give me a few choice words if I told them I'd booked our next Sunday lunch there.

Three of us dined yesterday (26/10/2024) and we had very slow and poor service, overcooked and cold food and, despite our complaint, they did not care! We left very disappointed and will NEVER return there!

What a difference since this pub has been taken over. Sunday Carvery was lovely with a generous portion of meat. Fantastic choice of vegetables which tasted lovely. Staff attentive and helpful. The atmosphere was great and everyone was enjoying themselves. Will certainly return.

I was so impressed with the Holly Blue. We had taken my elderly uncle out for lunch and nothing was too much trouble at all. We had the carvery which was delicious and all the staff were so lovely. We will be going back as soon as we can and are looking forward to another amazing meal and seeing the lovely staff.

We went for a Sunday Carvery and it was brilliant! Food was delicious, staff helpful and kind and the atmosphere was relaxed and warm. The fireplace had real fire and there's plenty of decorations... Really nice.

They didn't have my booking even though I booked it online over a week ago. The table service was poor and as well as customer service. All of the food was over cooked and the children's meals was really poor. The carvery looked tried and food dried out didn't want to touch it. A very disappointing visit.

Delicious food, lovely place and staff

Excellent service. Staff all very polite. Waiting time for food just right. Food was delicious and hot when it arrived. In particular the steak and ale pie was full of meat and the most delicious thick gravy. The sirloin steak was cooked to perfection and seasoned beautifully, a comment from one of our party who has been a chef for over 20 years! Well done everyone a thoroughly enjoyable birthday meal - Thank you!

I came here 7 years ago and the experience then was great, but I returned to have the most horrendous experience, nothing was right whatsoever, therefore I will not return again.

The food was honestly so yummy. This will be the only good thing in my review. The problems were the lack of choice, half the menu was unavailable and there was multiple things missing off the menu that was on there days before when looking up the menu. Not only this, when ordering a cocktail I was told that they cannot make the cocktail (even though it was on the menu) but they could sell me all the ingredients to make my own at my table.. this truly makes no sense, I was scared to order it though the app incase it wasn’t available when ordered but the bar lady telling me they have all the ingredients for me to buy tells me she has them and can make me a Cocktail! I’m honestly confused about this. Also took them 45 mins to bring peoples food out, half the table was done before the other half even saw a shred of food, last person served was my 11 year old autistic son. He was not pleased. Honestly will not be returning.

The food was good The service not so good a very long wait for food. We noticed things advertised on the Web site were not available in the restaurant. We also asked for a cocktail that was on the menu to be told we could only have it if we bought the contents separately IE a pint of orange a vodka etc this is ridiculous if you advertised a cocktail then you should sell them you don't offer a burger then say you have to buy the whole cow!! We booked to celebrate an 18th Birthday and to be honest it wasn't the experience I wanted on reflection I should have booked elsewhere

It was my first visit. The member of staff who looked after us was lovely. But the food quality was average. It wouldn't be my first choice for a return visit.

We had a family lunch today, this is our second visit here, all staff were welcoming and really family orientated. The meat with the carvery was incredible (for those that are used to another local carvery that I won’t name, the meat can be really fatty and not worth the money). The owners really welcomed my little girl who had just started walking and wanted to showcase her new moves to them also. There’s a really nice little out door play area also for little ones (weather permitting). This is one of the best turn around of a restaurant/public house in a short amount of time I’ve ever seen from the new owners.

Lunch menu was excellent . Food by chef George was delicious, hot and fresh. Service and atmosphere were brilliant - Highly recommend.

Fast service during a busy time with consistently good food. Toilets are in need of an update and a bit of a clean. The venue is very dog friendly with indoor and outside seating. They recommend contacting them if you're bringing dogs so they can seat you in the right part of the restaurant. They have a handy order to table webpage. We happened to dine during their 'sparkle event' which they do to encourage Christmas bookings. We found it rather strange to have live Christmas music and Xmas decorations in the middle of a Sunday lunch service in September. It did put us off a bit.

Food was lovely, the venue was Very busy with large groups, We were given a 2hr slot for 16people to eat, by the time we ordered at 1.30pm and the food arrived at 2.20pm we had 40mins to eat and leave which was not realistic. Food all came out at different times so some people had finished eating by the time others were just getting theres!! We were advised at 2.50pm that the tables were booked for 3pm, we hadn't even ordered puddings by then. During the busy afternoons they need to either extend the times for the large parties OR limit how many large parties they are going to take so they are not overwhelmed. Staff were friendly but seemed that there wasn't as many staff working compared to how busy it was.

Main menu was very much microwave food and overall disappointing. Roast was lovely but lukewarm. No gluten free desserts. Usually excellent customer service but unfortunately quite poor, asked to leave our table and other tables complaining about the food. Lovely location, ample car parking and they had Christmas celebrations on which were lovely!

Popped in to have dinner as not been in since it changed hands but found it very un welcoming, nothing really had changed,no atmosphere,we both had a steak meal which was ok mushrooms and tomato were overcooked. Will not be returning

Well what can I say, I’ve had some lovely meals there over the last several weeks (I’m sure that this restaurant has been taken over by new management as I stopped going there prior). The carvery was amazing, staff couldn’t be more helpful (especially as we had dogs with us and disabled people who needed support) and best of all the prices are really good . The restaurant was very clean and friendly. I will be returning there again very soon, full deserved 5 stars for this restaurant now. Ps the cheesecake is to die for, plus now that they’ve established themselves I hear that the menu is increasing. Well done to the new owners for bringing back the old Coopers atmosphere back 👍

Had a booked table for 6 adults on 21/9/2024 . Having made a selection from the menu we attempted to order two sirloin steaks and a mixed grill and was told no steaks available . Our party went back to the menu to re choose only to be told that miraculously they had ‘found’ some. The meal when it arrived still left a lot to be desired, one onion ring, half a tomato and very few chips. The hunters chicken was dry and didn’t have any bbq sauce, the naan bread served with the curry had been cremated, all in all the meal looked as if it had been put together begrudgingly. Point to note another table who ordered after our party also had steak, which rather tellingly looked much better presented. Overall standards need to be improved and consistent in presentation. Will hesitate to go again.

Brilliant evening. Food was great, service was fab. Staff were friendly and had a lovely atmosphere. Would definitely go back and would highly recommend. Went for a club meet for my birthday and were made to feel very welcome.

Not busy but also only 2 guys behind bar and 1 waitress. Place was dirty. Loads of rubbish on and under the table. Food good but felt corporate rather than homely. Not sure we would return. I’m sure it’s great on a summers day. I asked no cheese but there was remnants of cheese as if put on, melted a bit then remembered. Luckily I am not allergic just intolerant.

Food order was wrong. It was rectified but when you order childrens sausage and mash as per the menu and it comes with chips how can that happen!

Having visited the Holly blue over a year ago and saying we would never return, we had heard it had recently been taken over so decided to give it another go and we were not disappointed. A family of 5 I booked quite late that day but had no issues getting a table and all having a carvery we left feeling full and very happy. Of course we will be returning again, the new owners are doing and have done a great job turning the place around!

Working for a residential home, we often are shunned by restaurants not wanting wheelchairs “ cluttering up the place” All the staff at Holly Blue were more than welcoming and aided us without hesitation. Service was impeccable and quick, the food was hot and excellent value for money. We were asked if we needed anything specific to help with the meals and feeding. The staff definately and genuinely cared about their customers. It will be our go to restaurant from now on. 100% recommend.

Wow! What a huge improvement. Greeted with a friendly member of staff. Food was lovely, everything was so nice. Had not been for a while as last experience was awful, but heard it had changed hands and I was so impressed.

Easy to book a table online with a section for special requirements. Welcoming and friendly staff, full of smiles and chat. Good tasting food at an affordable price. Spacious for my pram. Local singer performing live music for great entertainment.

Hello had a lovely meal with my family and the stuff are lovely and kind

Really disappointed, after reading positive reviews I was really looking forward to having a nice meal with family. Despite not being busy, the food took over an hour to get to the table and wasn't even what I ordered or how I asked for it to be cooked so was sent back. So each member of the party ate separately. Very rare for me to complain but I would definitely not recommend or be returning. The second steak was even more overcooked than the first and the 'lighter version' was not as described in the menu so I literally had a few salad leaves for a meal out. I did complain there and was given a refund for my meal but will not be coming back.

We were greeted at the door. Food was nice.. starters came out fast and they let us know when to go up for our carvery dinners so we ate together. All the staff were very friendly... felt very comfortable. Definitely will return.

Since new management we start coming here regularly - trying Holly Blue’s carvery, veggie burgers. Each time great quality food and great service. Glad this place was turned arround! Try for yourself !

About 10 months ago my wife and I stopped going to Holly Blue as the food was pretty grim. However, 2 months ago we heard there had been a change of Management and things were on the up, so we popped along and indeed it had improved, the food from the menu was so much better, including some really excellent chips, and the Carvery had improved in leaps and bounds. Today we again visited and enjoyed a excellent carvery. The staff appear to have changed for the better and The Manager is front and centre, which was great to see. Quite frankly, apart from Manager Leah who departed just before the pandemic I've no idea who was running the show, (if anyone) so what a nice change the have The Manager on view and available. So I recommend The Holly Blue - it's vastly improved both in food and staff

What a turn around to the last time I visited The Holly Blue! Oliver and his team are doing a great job with the venue. Food is tasty, hot, and filling. The yorkshire puddings are huge and the roast potatoes are very tasty. We were too full to have pudding. The venue is clean, tidy, and has a nice layout to it. We look forward to visiting again when there is live music 🎶
