Food order was wrong. It was rectified but when you order childrens sausage and mash as per the menu and it comes with chips how can that happen!

Having visited the Holly blue over a year ago and saying we would never return, we had heard it had recently been taken over so decided to give it another go and we were not disappointed. A family of 5 I booked quite late that day but had no issues getting a table and all having a carvery we left feeling full and very happy. Of course we will be returning again, the new owners are doing and have done a great job turning the place around!

Wow! What a huge improvement. Greeted with a friendly member of staff. Food was lovely, everything was so nice. Had not been for a while as last experience was awful, but heard it had changed hands and I was so impressed.

Working for a residential home, we often are shunned by restaurants not wanting wheelchairs “ cluttering up the place” All the staff at Holly Blue were more than welcoming and aided us without hesitation. Service was impeccable and quick, the food was hot and excellent value for money. We were asked if we needed anything specific to help with the meals and feeding. The staff definately and genuinely cared about their customers. It will be our go to restaurant from now on. 100% recommend.

Easy to book a table online with a section for special requirements. Welcoming and friendly staff, full of smiles and chat. Good tasting food at an affordable price. Spacious for my pram. Local singer performing live music for great entertainment.

Really disappointed, after reading positive reviews I was really looking forward to having a nice meal with family. Despite not being busy, the food took over an hour to get to the table and wasn't even what I ordered or how I asked for it to be cooked so was sent back. So each member of the party ate separately. Very rare for me to complain but I would definitely not recommend or be returning. The second steak was even more overcooked than the first and the 'lighter version' was not as described in the menu so I literally had a few salad leaves for a meal out. I did complain there and was given a refund for my meal but will not be coming back.

We were greeted at the door. Food was nice.. starters came out fast and they let us know when to go up for our carvery dinners so we ate together. All the staff were very friendly... felt very comfortable. Definitely will return.

About 10 months ago my wife and I stopped going to Holly Blue as the food was pretty grim. However, 2 months ago we heard there had been a change of Management and things were on the up, so we popped along and indeed it had improved, the food from the menu was so much better, including some really excellent chips, and the Carvery had improved in leaps and bounds. Today we again visited and enjoyed a excellent carvery. The staff appear to have changed for the better and The Manager is front and centre, which was great to see. Quite frankly, apart from Manager Leah who departed just before the pandemic I've no idea who was running the show, (if anyone) so what a nice change the have The Manager on view and available. So I recommend The Holly Blue - it's vastly improved both in food and staff

Just had our first family meal under the new management. Brilliant. Great food and a very happy chef. In fact all staff members are really good. This will be our place to go from now on. All the best to the new management.

What a turn around to the last time I visited The Holly Blue! Oliver and his team are doing a great job with the venue. Food is tasty, hot, and filling. The yorkshire puddings are huge and the roast potatoes are very tasty. We were too full to have pudding. The venue is clean, tidy, and has a nice layout to it. We look forward to visiting again when there is live music 🎶

Come for lunch with kids and a big group of friends , so accommodating, great menu. Staff so attentive and helpful, food outstanding. Defo will be back again thanks guys for a lovely afternoon and being so attentive xxx

Just a lovely atmosphere and polite helpful bar staff. There were 3 of us and we really enjoyed the food. The lady serving the carvery was particularly nice.

EXCELLENT Service from start to finish! The addition of waitresses makes a big difference in terms of a clean and tidy environment, atmosphere and one to one service. Have never had a bad experience here and today was no different. Managers were visible and friendly and all the team were quick and efficient. Will definitley be back and will recommend to others.... oh and the yorkies are MASSIVE!

All the staff were really lovely. We had 5 hungry children with us and their starters took a while to come out but the food was nice and good value for money. We were a table of 8 and all of us enjoyed our meals and our visit.

Drawing up outside this place looks welcoming. Inside you're assaulted with a slew of signs about how to order food. Nobody around to verbally help so go and sit at a table, which unfortunately was not cleaned properly so all sticky and unpleasant,grainy with sprinkled salt. Don't want someone to bring my carvery because how would I know what's on offer so don't use QR code facility ( this place has gone all out on keeping staff to a minimum and it shows). I go to bar to enquire how I place order for two carvery meals and a charming helpful girl tells me what to do and I pay. My wife and I go to the carvery and then I realise I've made a serious mistake. Pigs,turkey and beef don't come that shape, so the three meat choices are processed lumps of ghost meat. The Yorkshire's which are heavily pushed (presumably cos they take up a lot of plate space) are soggy. seriously soggy. The turkey is dry and sinuous with gristly lumps through it the beef, surprisingly is ok. The veg choice is derisory: dried out peas, dried carrots stodgy, mainly bread, gloopy stuffing, cauliflower cheese the sauce is lumpy and not cheesy. The roast potatoes are of the sort where you take a potatoes ,cut it into twelve chunks and then roast so you get more bounce to the ounce. Overall this meal was awful. The "chef" in somewhat perpertetic attendance should ,at the least kept the veg freshened this was after all only 1pm. A minor irritation is that the "chef" could at least pointed us to the gravy etc which was in a completely different place to the rest of the service so we missed it. In hindsight covering up this travesty of a carvery in gravy would have probably been a blessing. Would I eat here again? Never. I've wasted an hour and a half and £45 I can't replace why do it again.

We booked a table for 12 for my mums birthday, we were told on arrival we could only have carvery as they were short staffed so couldn’t order from the menu. We all ordered carvery then multiple people came in after us and ordered from the menu. I got halfway through my food to find a huge black hair under my meat then another in the cauliflower cheese, I couldn’t finish my dinner. When I told the waitress she just said oh sorry. My father in law went to the bar to order 2 Irish coffees, the manager didn’t know what an Irish coffee was and had to ask 2 members of staff. One girl told her it was a liqueur coffee, when asked what liqueurs they had she said vodka!! We ordered a tia Maria coffee and a Jameson but when they came out it was 2 black coffees with a shot of liqueur. When we asked for it to be an Irish coffee the manager said we’re unable to make an Irish coffee 🙈 surely with all the deserts you serve there was cream in the fridge to add to make it an Irish coffee. Overall the food was overcooked and the service was poor. Staff appeared very inexperienced and I’m afraid I wouldn’t return.

Since under new ownership, I have noticed a massive improvement to the food standard & overall atmosphere. Visited twice recently and we love it here with an area outside to entertain the children before eating

Evening out with friends. We had a Very nice experience. Food was lovely my favourite is hunters chicken it normally comes with bacon but I can't have pork so they happily did me one without. We absolutely loved the atmosphere lovely and friendly service. Will definitely visit again.

Much improved since new owner have taken over. Food was superb. Not rushed through meal, like some places. Overall a very pleasant afternoon.

The Carvery is bland but good enough for a quick dinner if you don't want to cook at home, nothing has flavour but it does the job of feeding you. The restaurant is big and plenty of space,theres a playground out the side. The staff are nice and the whole place has abit of an empty wetherspoons type vibe. We will still go there when we're hungry and not fussed about taste. Looks good tastes like cardboard or those microwave roasts from frozen aisle, So dont forget the mint sauce, gravy and cranberry sauce to give it some flavour. My peas tasted stale so dont recommend them but the carrots were good! Plenty of disabled parking and the steps inside have rails and handgrabs which is really appreciated 👏

We have visited the Holly Blue on a regular basis over many years. Sadly, we have had to witness its decline. Hygiene in the 'Ladies' leaves much to be desired. It only takes a wipe-round with a wetwipe once a week to smarten up the woodwork ledges. We were visiting 2 days after Christmas ans did not expect to see Christmas rubbish on the floor. THE COFFEE MACHINE WAS STILL NOT FIXED The meal was adequate, but we all felt that barbecue sauce is the essence of Hunter's Chicken not just a dribble. Staff, as ever are delightful and we were happy to leave a remuneration.

Really gutted. Thought this place would be good after seeing positive reviews. Half the menu they have online was missing. Ordered the cheese bites. I got 3 my friend got 4. Asked and they got me an extra one so burnt I could t eat it. They then provided a fresh portion after having to complain twice. The onion rings were so over cooked they were rock solid. The chips were average the gammon was ok. The eggs were over cooked and covered in oil. My friends steak was inedible. Won’t be returning anytime soon.

The service from the serving staff was lovely. The service from the kitchen staff is poor. They were rude to the service staff and hygiene was poor. Got us waiting for ten minutes with a very poor apology. My son and husband had their burgers 10 minutes before us and we were still waiting for the kitchen staff to serve us! The owners Over confident little girl came to the bar when we were trying to make our food order and rudely asked the lady that was taking our order for a drink, and she attended to her without apologizing to us!!! New management..... Not happy with that! We have been there before now a few times and service wasn't near that bad from the kitchen staff or food poorly done ☹️ for what we paid for the food and drinks... Not worth it!

Unfortunately this pub isn’t what it used to be. The beautiful setting is lovely for family get togethers and casual meals or a nice Sunday roast. But the experience is dampened by staff who have no idea how their own menu works, and the quality of food is average. For example we came on curry night - advertised online - but the only curry listed on the menu was a tikka masala. We had to ask 2 separate staff members what the curry options were and they weren’t sure themselves. We had one burger meal - the burger was nice but the chips were cold (still tasty). We also had one curry - the papadums had a strange uncooked taste and the rice was cold. The curry was delicious though. I’ve never been disappointed by The Holly Blue’s carvery, the staff are friendly and the location is beautiful. However, the price you pay is too high for the average quality of the food.

Been coming here over 20 years - usually cheap and cheerful and suits me; I'm not difficult to please. Today was my worst experience so far by a mile. Two adults & two children, booked online in advance, Kids Deal mentioned in the booking but no children's menu provided on arrival at the reserved table. Three meals ok but a steak and ale pie was returned for still being frozen in the middle. By the time it came back the other 3 diners had almost finished eating. This time the pie centre was hot but some pastry was lukewarm and some so over-microwaved it was like concrete. The gravy was nearly cold with a thick skin on top and the chips and peas were only lukewarm. If I hadn't already paid I would have given my name and address, declined to pay for the substandard meal and said, "Sue me if you want the money." I won't say I'll never be back but it might be a while before I try again. Sorry, but that's the facts, this time.

All I can say is it’s not awful but it’s not great either! Food came out in drips and drabs. A couple of us had finished whilst others were just getting food, food was Luke warm, food was very greasy, not a great experience and to be honest I wouldn’t go back.

Good food just a shame about the hour a twenty minute wait for our food, admittedly this is the first time in a long time of going it has been this bad, hopefully just a one off as it is summer holiday season

Outstanding service. They went above and beyond. Best customer service I’ve had at a restaurant in the whole of the U.K. Food was great with big portions. EVERY member of staff was kind, up beat and polite. Really impressive. Will definitely be back! 👍

Visited on Sunday 28th July. Had a traditional roast dinner which was delicious. The greeting we received was nice and the service was a great improvement to when I had visited previously before the takeover. Will definitely be going back.

Our visit to The Holy Blue was fantastic! My family and I used to go there regularly before the change of ownership, but we had stopped visiting due to a decline in service. After hearing that it had changed hands, we decided to give it another shot, and we were pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was delightful, and the service was excellent. We will definitely be returning!

Food was good, but sadly weren't told about a 40 min wait when ordering...which led to each of us eating at separate times..lack of communication...Also petty but needs to be communicated that cutlery wasn't brought to the table...teething issues with staff.

The moment I walked through the doors I felt very welcome, the gentleman at the bar was so lovely. Explaining the six of glasses as I said I wanted a coke and lemonade. The chef that served me was so polite asked about my day and very chatty which I liked, he was checking on me and my friend through out us plating our dinner to see if we was OK. The food was excellent

We decided to revisit the Holly Blue again on Saturday night after hearing about the new management team taking over, and we weren't exactly taken back by our time there. The carvery is still the same, tough chewy meat, hardly any choices of veg, soggy roast potatoes, and to top it off there was a hair in my "pig in blanket" which Charlie, the barman witnessed me pull out. Charlie was very helpful and understanding, and offered me a fresh bowl. Overall, not a pleasant experience.

Staff very friendly, Carvery food good but could be laid out better. But my irritation was although the restaurant was not busy we were placed next to a large family that let there children run riot riding on scooters inside the restaurant. I thought this dangerous as could bump into someone with a plate of food.

Excellent Sunday carvery was had. Plenty to choose. All cooked to perfection. Served by a very pleasant Paul Taylor.

Stayed overnight in our campervan in their car park. After a lovely coffee in the garden with our dog, we went in for the carvery, which was delicious. The night was quiet and peaceful. Highly recommend to anyone passing through or in the area.

Under New Management and it shows! Alot better service and food. Lovely family atmosphere. The Manager seems to be a great guy and I'm sure he'll do very well here.

Had a meal best steak poor quietly for the money no attended us to ask if we where happy till we finished ,then the manager came to take our plates I complained and he gave us a free round.

Since the new manager has been in place this is now a go to restaurant for me. The food is fresh and the staff are polite. Also there has been a noticeable change in procedures as you can now see health and safety checks being done including there temperature checks. Which I have never seen before here

Came for lunch last week and was blown away by how friendly and knowledgeable the staff were. Food was delicious and the freshly ground coffee was amazing! They even had oat milk. Really amazing turn around

The last few years the food here has been a bit up and down. After recently changing management, we decided to give it another try. I had the carvery and it was delicious, all of the food tasted fresh, lovely fluffy roast potatoes, vegetables that were just right. My daughters had the gammon and really enjoyed it too. Came away very happy.

We had an 18th birthday 🎂 celebration. I must impress the staff, and the manager was most attentive to our group of 11 and the birthday girl. The food was sumptuous, including the puddings. The meals were of good value, and the venue choice was varied. It was my first time there, and I was suitably impressed. A huge thanks to all staff once again for your kind effort and the extra birthday song from the local band too!!

The Holly Blue has new ownership. It is a clean, friendly pub with a great new menu. It has the welcome addition of Tuesday evenings having Pevensey Ukulele Group playing.

Have just had a lunch at the Holly blue ,we went last week as well the food was amazing, the owners have only just taken over infact a week but both times we've been staff are polite , service brilliant, food brilliant will definitely be going back .

Last visited The Holly Blue a few years ago and if honest it was ok but not great. We'd heard that there had recently been a change of management so thought we'd give it a second chance. The improvement in food, ambience, customer service and our overall experience was superb. In this instance, the leopard really HAS changed its spots. Great value food and drinks, and they have various offers on during the week (we visited Saturday evening). Thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Credit where credit is due, the Holly Blue is most definitely on the up!

Nice food at good prices. Place been a bit run down recently but with the new owners there should be a new future for this pub and am sure in time it will be buzzing again like it use to be.

Great meal out good food. Update went to have a meal all booked on line wanted to bring the dog as you state it's dog friendly request that we have dog , then get turned away as you had no dog friendly tables available not very good very disappointed
