Thought we'd give this place a try - something different and in a nice supermarket. It wasn't busy, just five or six having coffee. But we had to clear a table ourselves - all tables by the windows were full of used dishes. We ordered sausage and mash - but the sausages were not just overcooked - they were incinerated. There was no soft meat in the middle and because they were so badly overdone, they had zero flavour. The portion size was adequate, it was just not a nice plate of food at all. The fish finger wrap was really tasty indeed. Loved it. But what would have made the bland appearance of two cream coloured wraps on a plain white plate would have been a small side salad. It looked so unappetising, yet it tasted great. I'd have it again and my partner forgot to order a side of chips - so pleased because the wraps were really sufficient for lunch. The coffees were hot and strong. Very nice coffee indeed. Two coffees, two lunches cost just under £20 and had the sausage and mash been even slightly better, I'd have given this place 4 stars but unfortunately, given the state of the tables and sausages, I do feel quite generous giving three stars. Every single experience counts in a cafe when there is so much choice and it pains me to pop in a low starred review as this is not at all normal for me, however, the review reflects the experience.

We stoped for a late breakfast I had the full English Breakfast the eggs were over cooked and not runny my wife had a fancy toast. Toast and coffee is extra so after 4 coffees, two breakfasts and two Portuguese Tarts, it came to about £34 which is expensive. The sausages and bacon was good overall I enjoyed the experience I knew it was going to be expensive.

We often come to the cafe at Waitrose. It's a bit of a treat and a cut above any other supermarket cafes. I really enjoyed the Aberdeen Angus beef burgers. Today I go for my treat and the menu has changed. Not the price mind. You still pay the same price for an ordinary burger like you'd find in a roadside burger van. On a brioche bun with all the trimmings, but, none the less a very ordinary burger. We expect better from Waitrose.

Thought Waitrose would be more of a "high end" supermarket quality of food in the cafe. On my visit today that wasn't the case. I ordered a packed lunch for my little girl and a breakfast for myself. Because most of the hot food on the Menu was unavailable. My little girl had eaten her sandwich, crisps, fruit and biscuit by the time my breakfast came out 35 minutes later!. By then she was ready to leave and my coffee was finished. It came out with Burnt eggs, cold mushroom and only the fat off bacon. Toast came with sachets of butter that was already fully melted and had poured out all over me when I picked it up.! Only thing that was decent and hot was the beans. Very disappointed and won't order a breakfast here again.

We live locally and have shopped at Waitrose many times but never been to the cafe. Today we decided to have coffee and cake. Unfortunately the cakes on offer were not to our liking but they had a very good deal on a cream tea for £4. This included a regular tea or coffee of your choice with a fruit or plain scone, clotted cream and jam. As coffees are priced at over £3, the offer was a great price and tasted good too!

Oh Waitrose, thy shelves with bounty glow, A feast for senses, with riches untold, From finest meats to freshest of snow, Thy aisles are treasure trove, all unfold. In thee I find my shopping pleasure, With quality goods at fair prices and more, In every aisle, from food to leisure, Thou hast what I need, that I adore. And thy staff, so helpful, kind and bright, Adding to the ambiance so right, Their warmth and service, shining so bright. So here's to thee, Waitrose, my delight, For thee I'll always choose, day or night. In thee, I find a shopping delight, Thou art the store that never shall I slight. I thought that Booths cafe's were slow until I came with my sister today to the Waitrose cafe, We waited ages in a relatively short queue. There only seemed to be one person behind the counter serving and making the drinks. I ordered a tea and a chicken pesto toastie and ordered my sister a soup with bread and butter. The food did come out fairly fast, but there was no butter for the bread so we had to get that and the toastie looked rather boring on the plate - there was no garnish or anything with it. Food was fine but those extra little touches were just missing. Service needs to speed up a lot to encourage us to go back.

Arrived at the cafe hoping to enjoy a spot of brunch with my fellow diner (former history student Megan Hannah Jezebel ) . Due to its renowned popularity with middle class older women we expected a great breakfast sitting from the famously Tory supermarkets side hustle. However when we arrived their, to quote the Lemony snicket novel we were followed by “a series of unfortunate events”. Both of us opted for the vegetarian breakfast in order to take the moral high ground. The on-till staff who for the purposes of this review I will be calling cous cous and tarquin were kind and happy to take our many questions on endless dietary concerns. We both decided to remove the avocado hoping we could substitute for a healthy portion of beans. However cous cous broke the news we would be able to swap it for extra bread. If I had to draw a comparison to this exchange it would be Burnley football clubs decision to sack manager of 10 years Shaun dyche along with all his coaching staff and place the club into the managerially naive hands of Mike Jackson. We paid and collected our pots of spewing tea and made our merry way towards the seating area. At this point Megan would like to input that she felt appalled to find dirty crockery sprawled across the only available tables that felt in her opinion - simply lacking love and care. Upon sitting we discussed what we felt would be an appropriate waiting time and came to the conclusion of 15-20 minutes taking into consideration the customer to staff ratio. If you’ve not already guessed by my cleverly crafted pun based title, the wait was longer then this. As a trained industry professional, I always like to say “the food should take longer to eat then to arrive” this is a moto I swear by for happy staff and happy eaters. However when the food finally did arrive it was smaller then a singular atom* *atom joke - never trust an atom they make up everything I will include an individual break down of each item included in their so called vegetarian breakfast offering: Poached eggs: 4 on 10 - small, runny whites (traumatic for a recently reformed vegan) Spinach: 2 on 10 - spinach for days Toast: 8 on 10 - personal highlight meg feels butter was lacking Tomato: 5 on 10 - divided opinions there was no shared narrative and a conclusion was not drawn we will therefore take the mean of both scores. Mushrooms: 6 on 10 - higher score for incorporating the portobello, give us two though don’t hold back Halloumi: 9 on 10 - kitchen staff nailed this one well done guys After our food was brought to the table, a member of staff brought us forks and then said - and this is where it gets interesting - “your enjoying that”. We were not.

Why, oh why, can they nit manage to serve hot food? I had the Eggs Benedict, the flavour of which was lovely but .... the poached eggs were hard, the sauce was barely lukewarm and the muffin had obviously bern toasted and left standing. The little vine tomatoes were delicious!! My dearly beloved ordered a breakfast, we should have asked for the egg to be poached rather than fried, but we weren't asked for our preference (and with my experience of the eggs benedict, perhaps not!). When I mentioned my food wasn't hot enough, he commented that his was cold too, and his coffee! What does it take it be served freshly prepared food that is at least a few degrees above barely lukewarm? With so many other places to choose from, why would we rush back here??

After an enjoyable shop in the supermarket we went into the cafe. It was Saturday lunch time but at 1.50 it should have been after the main rush. There was ample space to sit. We were informed we would wait ten minutes for our food which was fine to us. Unfortunately we waited 25 minutes which we thought too long for a jacket potato and a fish finger wrap with gherkin and tartar sauce. The tea did come earlier which was good, but we had finished that before the food came. The potato was OK but the fish finger wrap was dry. There was a sliver of gherkin in each half of the wrap. The tartar sauce was practically non existent in one half of the wrap and very very lightly smeared in the other. When we next visit Waitrose - we live 22 miles away - we will eat somewhere else.

As per the title, we had a lovely lunch at Waitrose Café today. However, my post is mainly about the level of service we received. The café was very busy, so we didn't mind waiting for our order. We were served by a young lady named Sheila. When she delivered our order, she was apologetic and gave us complimentary drinks. We were very impressed with Sheila's service and would like to thank her and the store!

Myself and my husband always visit on a Saturday late afternoon in the cafe, most of the time it is extremely busy but we both comment to each other that the staff who work in the kitchen must be very competent to keep up with the demand of orders and we never wait very long for our food to be served. So we are thanking the back of house staff that never get seen for making our Saturday afternoons a pleasure.

Had an afternoon snack here with my wife. Drinks and food perfectly acceptable - no problem there, as was pleasant and prompt service. What was disconcerting was a number - a large number - of tables stacked with the plates, cutlery, and cups of previous diners. Prompt table clearance does not seem to be a priority for the staff - but very important to diners. We had to clear a table ourselves before sitting down. This aspect of the total service offering needs Management with a capital M.

Visited for coffee and a sandwich on Saturday at noon with my husband. As he joined the queue of 7 customers, I sat at one of the many available tables, all of which needed clearing and cleaning. During the 20 minutes or more that my husband stood in the queue, I witnessed staff bringing hot food orders from the kitchen and wandering around in vain trying to find the correct table number. The food was taken back into the kitchen, only to appear a minute later when the same cycle was repeated. It appeared that the wrong order numbers had been given out so long awaited food was going cold whilst customers was getting very frustrated. There appeared to be action on the table clearing front either. I eventually had to ask a staff member to clear and clean the table. I don't know what has happened to make the service in this cafe so bad recently. When it first opened we enjoyed visiting as it was always clean and efficient. Bad management perhaps?

From previous visits the hot food orders have taken far too long to be served, some days 30 minutes and more on a busy day, and have been a little underwhelming. Especially on the rare days my husband has accompanied me, giving more to complain about! This is a good clean cafe with very slow service. However, its busy and the staff are welcoming and when you do manage to order the food comes promptly. On the expensive side but factor in most customers have a loyalty card and therefore get a free brew. If ordering a breakfast sandwich don't expect it to come buttered, whilst on soft bread this can be okay but they're served on rustica bread. Very dry. Will happily provide butter however, if you ask several times.

I took my 2 boys for breakfast here which unfortunately was a mistake. I ordered fried eggs on toast and got one fried egg on one slice of toast. My youngest lad was disappointed. I also ordered a bacon and egg sandwich for my eldest. He showed me the bacon he had got on his sandwich which was fatty streaky bacon that wasn't crispy at all. He also said that the bread was dry. I order for myself a traditional large breakfast which I wasn't impressed with. Again it was fatty streaky bacon, two very small sausages, beans, approx five mushrooms, tomatoes, a greasy hash brown and one fried egg which I give to my youngest child due to the disappointment of his breakfast. All this was served in a bowl, which I found odd. It also came which two slices of hard dry toast. Including the cost of a coffee and two juices I t cost me just over £20. Arrived at about 1:30 pm for lunch. Smallish queue to order food, so made choices and got in the queue. We waited and we waited. Small sign up explaining that no coffee machine coffee available due to water quality so only instant coffee or tea available. Eventually reached the front of the queue after 15 minutes to be informed that they only had one tiny teapot available, and there would be a further 20 minute wait for prepared food, hot or cold. Decided to order anyway, to be told that they had no salmon for the salmon salad. As the cafe is situated within a large supermarket, I was surprised that this could not be remedied. We ended up with a packet of crisps and a coke- not really the lunch we had in mind. If service is this slow then surely a waitress service would be better! Went to customer services in the supermarket to voice complaint, but the girl behind the desk walked off as we approached, and the other girl was on the phone. Waited another 5 minutes but no-one came to see to us so decided we had wasted enough of our time. We will not be returning anytime soon.

Some items expensive for what they are; certain sandwiches are a 'lot more bread than the filling' and service is variable, it can be a bit of a bun fight at lunchtime! That said, the food appears fresh and obviously it reflects what is sold in store.

On our way back from doing errands in Preston we called in for the first time. The café was very busy but tables were clean and food arrived quickly. Staff very polite and good selection of food - hot/cold and drinks. We had childs meal bag - sandwich, juice carton, yoghurt, gingerbread man and crisps for £3.75, two sandwiches which were good quality and filling, cranberry presse and a cappucino which was under £13 in total so not bad. If you pick up a loyalty card you can have a free regular hot drink every day so worth it even if you visit every once in a while. Would call in again for a quick lunch or afternoon tea and cake.

Great supermarket cafe, does what it says on the tin! Hot meals arrived reasonably quickly given it was busy.

Ate here with my husband and young daughter. We ordered two toasted sandwiches and a child's meal. We were expecting a very nice lunch given the Waitrose prestige image, but we were left very disappointed when it arrived at our table. The child's meal came with peas which were obviously from a tin and had been microwaved to the point of incineration; and the toasted sandwiches were presented with a pathetic side salad which was wilted and tasteless and contained just one cherry tomato! The sandwiches themselves were ok but nothing to rave about. I complained the the cafe manager who was a disinterested individual, who stated the food was prepared in accordance to head office. However a refund was given.

I have been here on a number occasions and its always just ok but its convenient for me. It is only following my last visit that I feel the need to write a review. I have a daughter and for the first time I requested a high chair for her. I cannot express enough how disgustingly dirty these were. I inspected them all and they were all the same. I'm appalled and insulted that waitrose would expect you to sit your child in one of these she would have encountered less germs had she eaten her lunch sat on a WC! I did complain at the time to a staff member who took the chair and placed it back with the others without cleaning it!

I met with a couple of friends for breakfast (or elevenses or lunch, depending on whether any other meal had been eaten!) on a rainy Wednesday morning. It was quite busy and we did have to queue 5-10 minutes. There was a good selection of cakes, pastries and biscuits, plus breakfast was served till 11:30. Although breakfast was still being served, my friend was able to order soup and a piece of crusty baguette. It looked really good and came with a little portion of butter wrapped in greaseproof paper - not the usual tiny pre-packed portion.

The usual selection of foods and drinks from waitrose, I do compliment the staff who are busy and do a great job of serving what is a busy cafe in the store. Always found the food and drink to be good quality.

We ate here as a cheaper alternative to the breakfast at our Premier Inn. It has to be said that the breakfast was disappointing given Waitrose's "prestige!"

I came on a Saturday lunch time a while back, due to complaining today realised how good a certain member if staff was, Georgie was very professional and polite and could only offer assistance whereas some of her colleagues were slightly rude but could have just been me. Recommend for a snack

Love the Waitrose store but the same cannot be said for the café! Waited 40 minutes for a quiche and salad - we were the only people in the café at lunch time that day so it wasn't as though they were rushed off their feet! Food was nice but spoilt by such slow service.

great staff, very engaging and sincere. That's what makes Waitrose different than the competition. Waiting is sometimes part of the fun. Communication is a two way process, its what you make it. They try and that's what matters. A few soggy chips here and there isn't the end of the world.

We visited Waitrose and while impressed with the store we were very underwhelmed by the Cafe. We waited 20 minutes to be served and no one in front of us seemed to be ordering anything complicated. In fact, most were just ordering drinks. The staff, all SEVEN of them did not seem to have any sense of urgency about them at all. i think there is a sever case of lack of training and direction here. On obtaining drinks and cakes i tried to find a dessert spoon that was clean enough to eat with. I gave up and got forks instead which were marginally cleaner.

Went to waitrose and thought we would have a coffee and cake from restaurant . The service was appalling ... Waited 10 mins to be served then was informed that the coffee machine was broke and we could only have instant ! I ordered a pot of tea but the assistant informed me it would have to be in a cup as they had no tea pots ... The cake was dry and un edible like it had been stood for a day in a warm place . I complained to the team leader on duty to be informed that they had lots of complaints that day . I wonder why ?

Was expecting a lot more from my first visit to this cafe, especially with the prices you pay. It was not particularly busy at the time but we stood waiting at the front of the queue for a good few minutes while 3 members of staff stood around behind the till doing very little. They then allowed another customer to interupt our order and left us waiting once again. The food arrived quickly and was nice but we had to ask for forks and glasses to drink from.

As expected the cafe was fairly busy at 12:50 pm on a Saturday but the service was extremely poor and does not give a good impression of the Waitrose cafe. We didn't have to queue up for long but at the counter there was a sign saying that the wait for hot food was approximately 30 mins. As the sign was partially hidden I queried this with one of the girls who checked and said that it would be about 10 mins so I went ahead and ordered a Tartine and a crustless quiche. For the quiche I asked for no greenery, just tomato and coleslaw, which I think was a simple request. A girl behind the counter asked if I wanted hot drinks but said I would have to give the food order to the girl on the till. When I got to the till it was the same girl!!! The food did come fairly quickly and my Tartine was really good but the crustless quiche came with all the greenery and not the rest. The lass was really good and took it back but then came back with the quiche and coleslaw but no tomato. By this time I had nearly eaten my food and my sister had already finished hers so we did not bother sending it back again. Although the food is really nice here the actual service is not do good - and really there needs to be someone "in charge" behind the counter to make sure that things run smoothly. There was no orange juice left, we had to wait for them to get some teapots washed and had to ask for cutlery and tables had not been cleaned. You expect it to be busy at lunchtimes but it was almost as if the girls couldn't cope with the rush. This was a disappointing experience.

This is a great cafe and the free drinks are a bonus when you are shopping. However, on this particular visit the staff seemed completely confused. It seemed like no one knew who was doing what. And they weren't busy either. We ordered our drinks and two bacon butties for our breakfast. Half an hour later we asked where they were, only to find out they had forgotten us. We were assured that the food was on it's way. But it took a further twenty minutes to arrive

we always come to the cafe when we do our weekly shop to take advantage of the free coffee/tea offer. It's fab. The food and drink are always top quality. But please could something be done about the service. It is so slow. Often the staff don't know what they're doing. It can take 3 people to make a coffee. Please remedy this. It is spoiling the experience.

Coffee was good but staff were totally lacking in customer service. Not at all friendly, no smiles or eye contact, just doing the minimum job and no more. The hospitality industry is about the whole experience even if it is just coffee and a snack. Sadly lacking at this branch.

Ordered today at half 3, order came at 5. Cookie dough was cold and had spilt everywhere. The worst cookie dough I’ve eaten, I only had 3 spoon fulls before throwing it away.

Just started a new job in the area and being a big Starbucks fan thought great this will do. Of all the Starbucks iv been in this is without doubt the worse. Iv given it the benefit of the doubt but if you want to know how bad a latte can taste then go to this one. Todays was as bitter as you can get the beans tasted burnt and the milk was to hot. The staff are stressed and just can’t wait to get rid of you. The cup is never full but you woudent mind that if it tasted right but it never does well mine hasn't. Don’t know if the staff go through the testing process on the machine to check the coffee taste before they start work but it looks like they don’t. Iv move on now and I would advise you to do the same.

New to the area so decided to check out a few pubs with my mate. Both of us went in during the Leeds v Sheff Wednesday game and were completely blanked by the guy behind the bar who walked straight past us a few times in a 5 minute period and its far to say he was much more focused on chatting up two women on the other end of the bar. Left and went somewhere else instead Edit, I didn't say the Leeds v Sheff Wednesday game was played on a Wednesday. Sheffield Wednesday is the name of the team. It was a Friday night game on the 23rd August
