Went in The Black Bull to meet friends, and not been for around 18 months. The beer choices was spot on, as real ale drinkers we were happy. The beer was really nice, only went in for one, ended up drinking a few more. 20p off real ale for Camra members.

Went in for a pint after work with my girlfriend, was met by a woman behind the bar with the customer service ability of a brick wall. Ignored us greeting her, glared at us the entire time, the only thing said to us was ‘what do you want’ in a rude and disrespectful manner. Will not be coming back.

Used to love this pub until recently. Under new management, the prices have risen, and the real ale choices have gone down to 1 or 2 mediocre choices. The quality of the ale is not up to the high standards of the past. We get 20p off a pint as camera members, but would rather go elsewhere. Would give zero stars if it was an option.

This place has gone down hill, which is a shame, as my wife and I used to really enjoy calling in. Those that had been banned by previous management are now back in. It's nowhere near as friendly as it used to be, no warm greetings from any of the staff. The drinks have gone up in price, expensive, even you if you use a CAMRA card. It was cheaper in the Lime Bar for two drinks than it was in here. Recently been refurbished, but you wouldn't know it. Gave it two stars because the beer was a decent pint.

My husband & myself visited The Black Bull of Pewortham for a relaxing drink & were greeted by friendly staff from the onset. We registered with, Track & Trace in the doorway entrance then once inside this quaint little bar, we were asked to show we had registered with Track & Trace then shown to our socially distanced table where we were told a member of staff would be over to take our orders soon. We felt very safe, the bar was extremely clean & very warm & cosy indeed. Hand sanatiser is available on every table. The landlord/landlady were very cheerful & continually checked we had everything we needed. On using the washrooms, the landlord/landlady checked mens/ladies washrooms to makesure no-one else was in so they were socially distanced safe to use. There is a large beer garden to the rear of the bar which has a small, heated covered smoking area & a larger open area with plentiful benches, again, socially distanced. The beer garden is very colourful & inviting. The prices are very reasonable & I must say, if you get the chance, definitely worth a visit!

A fabulous local pub, with the prettiest beer garden ever! Dog friendly too. The selection of guest ales and beers is good. Camra members frequent the pub and attend the many trips out on trains and beer trails. The pub has a music license and we enjoy the artists singing popular music. Regular quiz nights include popcorn, choccies and great prizes! The pub regularly fundraises for local charities and hold some wonderful events wirh live music. You can even take your own food in from the local eateries as they do not serve food. We definately recommend a visit! I even saw a star from Hollyoaks in there once!! I love my local!

In this age it is great to have a local pub, they are becoming rarer. The Bull has been a retreat for myself for over 25 years and it still has a great charm. The current “skippers” keep things on track with Thursday quizzes and other activities. Great beer garden for the great British summer and the occasional barbecue. Sports on TV though not intrusive and Camra discount on a selection of quality real ales served by great staff. Check website for detail.

BEWARE OF THIS PUB! Been to this pub on several occasions as a paying customer, recently parked on the carpark to nip into the Co-op next door as they had no room on the carpark. A week later was hit with a £55 fine for a 2min stop on an empty carpark in the middle of the day. Not just the pints that are expensive. Lost any future trade from me and anyone else I have told this to. Like vultures waiting with a camera to take a photo of any vehicle thats stopped for more than a minute. Shameful! Follow up to Owners Response... As I stated I have been to your establishment on numerous occasions in the past, quite often with work collegues. My vehicle has been parked on the carpark on numerous occasions as a paying customer. You choose to not believe this...wouldn't of expected otherwise. 'Our hundreds of customers are delighted they can park'...I understand your points in regards to the carparking situation and I would be the first to admit it was an error of judgement on my part, but the point being your hundreds of customers were not trying to park up on this particular day at the time in question...it was empty!! I must of really caused you a significant loss of business for the 2 minutes I was there. You state your customers can park '(even if Just going to the shops!)' How do you know they are customers? I have been, even if you choose to not believe me, but I am not allowed to do this, do you have a minimum spend policy to be classed as a genuine customer? 'If you’d advertise your address it would be useful for other people to know then can leave their car on your drive if they’re local and need to park.'....not really the same. If it was, I most certainly wouldn't charge £55 for 2 minutes! You have a choice to use your discretion as to whether to get your camera out on an empty car park or to even pop your head out and give a friendly warning and advise that there is a free carpark nearby, or God forbid do nothing. I suppose I have a choice to drink my 'half of cordial' elswhere and not recommend your establishment to anyone else. I will let others make up their minds after they have read your responses to other previous comments as to what kind of establishment you run. Good to see community spirit is still alive and well.

New to the area so decided to check out a few pubs with my mate. Both of us went in during the Leeds v Sheff Wednesday game and were completely blanked by the guy behind the bar who walked straight past us a few times in a 5 minute period and its far to say he was much more focused on chatting up two women on the other end of the bar. Left and went somewhere else instead Edit, I didn't say the Leeds v Sheff Wednesday game was played on a Wednesday. Sheffield Wednesday is the name of the team. It was a Friday night game on the 23rd August

As the Old Oak is under new management and myself and partner were both home for a change, we thought it would be nice to pop in for lunch in our dinner break. Only being 5 minutes away we thought we would easily have time. We ordered a burger and a soup at 12:40 and by 13:20 there was still no sign of it - as I had to be back at work in 10 minutes we had to ask for a refund. We were told it was due out in 5 minutes but we simply had no time left. 45 minutes wait in a pub with only 2 other tables being served is unacceptable. A real shame as we were keen to support a local business and would have looked forward to going more often. As it is we won't bother again and it looks like the same story as with all the previous owners. Gave one star as the person behind the bar was polite and friendly and gave the refund with no issues.
