Parked in store car park, noticed cafe so decided to return after a visit to cathedral etc Returned at 1pm on a Sunday to find that the new quiche that was advertised on all tables was out of stock as were the next 4 different things we asked for off the menu board. Including jacket potatoes! Last time I looked Waitrose sell potatoes? Offered no suggested alternatives, poor service considering cafe open for another 4 hours

There's generally some sort of deal for card holders, eg £1 for a muffin, but on the last two occasions the coffee order was wrongly prepared. The regular size coffee then gets poured away (wasted) while the correctly ordered quantity is provided. Sloppy counter service.

Called in recently about 2pm for a quick light lunch. Service was quick. The offer for soup, a hot roll and a drink was excellent. The Chicken broth was hot and very tasty. Being a Waitrose card customer, we were entitled to 20% off the cake of the day which was fresh and delicious.

In a rush? Avoid. I read “first hour free” so dashed in for a quick shop. Delayed by the technically inadequate ‘self serve’ - took me at least 15 mins to scan my shopping with repeated need for assistant attention- and was therefore just under an hour before back at my car. Too bad. Had I been there 10 mins earlier I would not have been charged. The parking notice says ‘must obtain ticket’. My bad. I had never been there before and was not familiar with this system - but I will certainly never be going back again.

I thought, according to the national press, that Waitrose had asked their customers to carry on wearing masks when shopping. This I was more than happy to do, whilst shopping in the Wells branch today this advice doesn't seem to have reached their staff. Two members of their staff, one who spoke to me and the other assisting on the self checkout weren't wearing masks. With such close customer contact I would have thought for their own safety they would have worn masks. I would have said that quite a large proportion of their customer base are over 65 so are more vulnerable to Covid and mask wearing for the staff should be more than encouraged.

Whereever we travel in this country we always look to stock-up on arrival at a Waitrose. Bit miffed at the start having to pay to park the car. After 70-odd miles in the car, first stop the loos. Not as expected, just two disabled cubicles. My wife in one, me in the other - both stank abyssmally despite claiming to be "inspected regularly". Once a week is regular! Bah! So to the cafe (it's 11 a.m.) and of our first three choices none were available nor were any of the cakes being offered as a "freebie" with each drink ordered. The soup was available although the staff had to ask TWO others what it was one of whom pointed out that they had no rolls! Despite all of the requested items being on sale elsewhere in the store, the cafe staff were only allowed to use their own stock which, clearly, was heavily depleted!!!! When we ginally found a manager she did, indeed, refund our parking and gave us a small gift voucher promising to do better next time. Even if we lived locally there would NOT be a next time. Why should we expose ourselves to such dreadfully poor service?

My husband and I went into Waitrose cafe in Wells for lunch as most of the local cafes were full. We both chose a toasted chicken and bacon toastie and a slice of cake with a pot of tea. The tables were dirty and when I picked up my toastie it was only toasted on one side and the other side was bread. It felt very light so I opened it and there was next to no filling inside. Having paid £5.25 for this toastie I thought it was absolutely disgusting. I was offered a replacement but was totally put off by that point!! I was given a refund but I won't be revisiting.

I was here on holiday with my family for the Christmas period and upon arrival at our holiday home we found there was no highchair! We went everywhere looking to buy one to use for the rest of our stay, but with no luck I popped into Waitrose and explained to the lovely guy at the welcome desk my situation . He was so lovely and went above and beyond to try and help me . There was no highchairs to buy in store so he kindly got one from the cafe and said I could borrow it for the rest of my stay and return it on our way home . So I just wanted to say thank you so much Cam 😊 such a lovely thing to do for us . Hope you had a great Xmas . Thanks again 🙌🏼 😊 x

What a lovely surprise! Fresh tea in a china pot, clean spacious tables both inside and out, and friendly staff. We had just tea and cakes to break our long journey. Free parking, or rather - the parking fee refunded with a minimum spend on shopping. I had a simply delicious cherry and almond tart. I recommend this. My wife enjoyed a generous slice of coffee and walnut cake. We lingered at an outside table in the afternoon sunshine and relaxed. This is the way that afternoon tea should be enjoyed. Well done Waitrose and thank you to the two delightful staff who served us.

This is my local/closest Waitrose and I've shopped there regularly since it opened so I know it very well. I think the previous review criticising the parking charge is unfair. It's not the biggest Waitrose, in fact it's quite small, which means that sometimes you can't get everything you'd like. I think this is because Waitrose also built the brand new TWO storey public car park alongside it (on the site of the previous single storey council car park which was always impossibly full particularly on Saturdays)... so I would guess the store size was sacrificed to provide much-needed public parking in Wells. The public parking charge of minimum £1.10 is competitive alongside other public car parks in Wells. If you spend £5 or more in Waitrose (not difficult) you get this refunded. I'm also pretty sure that it says on the payment machine that you have to spend £5 to get your £1.10 refunded. If you are not shopping in Waitrose (it's used a lot by tourists as well) that's what you pay. I think this is absolutely acceptable. I like this store. The staff are friendly, and the parking is extremely convenient (and under cover which is rare for a supermarket).

I paid £1.10 to park my car in Waitrose car park, Wells, safe in the knowledge I would be refunded against my shopping purchases right? Wrong! On completing my shop I was told I could only get my parking refund if I spent £5 or over. Nothing in car park telling me this. £1.10 added to my loaf makes this a VERY expensive store.

I love Waitrose! It happens to be my supermarket of choice when at home, partly because it's within easy each and also because of the pleasant shopping experience. I was desperate for a quick snack when I first visited the restaurant area in Wells. They had unfortunately stopped serving hot food for the day, but a steak sandwich was an excellent substitute. All the usual suspects. Food and drink, ingredients and home ware, fresh stuff and preserved stuff. All of decent quality, many of which, frustratingly, are not found at other places. Ours was a small holiday shop and we found plenty to interest us for preparing a couple of cooked meals at our temporary rented home.Quite interesting to experience hordes of homeward bound children from the local secondary school descending on the car park where many parents were waiting. Bear in mind that this could gum up your exit for a while around 3pm!

This is a time when bureaucracy over-rides common sense! We were hoping for lunch and chose scrambled eggs on toast. However no gluten free bread! So offered to buy my own bread and would they toast it. But a manager needed to be found and asked and eventually said 'no' because there might be nuts nearby (nuts are fine for me) or glutinous crumbs in toaster. SO, I said I would take total responsibility for potential crumbs.THEN they discovered that we could not have SEOT because that was the breakfast menu! Time to breath deeply and count to 10! So we had a coffee and went our way. Not a good experience in customer relations or modern catering!

Very expensive for what we were presented with : fatty boiled bacon, mushrooms soaked in grease, hard tomatoes, spicy sausage for breakfast??? Bland bread and flavourless butter , One portion of butter served in a ramikin and the other thrown in a cracked milk jug (see photos). Rude staff, poor slow service combined with apalling food means that the only way I'll be going back is on a gratis invitation after the above matters have been addressed.

The internal cafe is very similar to others inside this familiar and famous upmarket super-market chain. This branch is a few minutes walk away from the main shopping area and the cafe is to be found a sharp-right turn inside the main entrance. There are plenty of chairs and due to large windows a lot of light floods in. My coffee and scone was quickly served (a rarity in Waitrose's for some inexplicable reason) and the scone tasty. As someone who does not like shopping anywhere , I must admit that shopping at the new-ish Waitrose in Wells comes as close to a positively enjoyable supermarket experience as one is likely to find. Without exception, all the staff we have encountered have been cheerful and eager to help. Waitrose also encourage you to go there with the offers on coffee and newspapers , so it is a cost effective alternative to the other competitors in the area. It is, however, a little small for a supermarket so occasionally does not have the more esoteric products that I am sent out to buy, but usually the shopping mission is completed satisfactorily !

But Wells is particularly bad.the small cooked breakfast for nearly £5 comprised 3 soggy and minute strands of streaky bacon that a xmas turkey would have rejected, 2 small slices of grilled tomatoes and 2 eggs( nicely cooked!)NB i swapped my sausage for another egg.As the bacon was inedible due to it being a fat-fest I was still hungry after my 2 eggs and tom slices.Waitrose.. This afternoon I sat and had coffee and a snack while my family shopped. Before I could sit at a table I had to pack used dishes onto a tray and put them at the corner of the table to make room. For the next hour I watched as people did the same and some tables got so full of trays they couldn't be used. Some customers cleared tables themselves and took the full trays to the staff at the counter but the staff still didn't clear tables and at one time I counted at least six members of staff just talking at the counter with no customers waiting. This was at 1515 in the afternoon. Was really excited to try out this restaurant. Had read the media coverage and have tremendous respect for the owners. It was busy, nice weather had brought the crowds out to the outside dining area. It seems impossible to get good service these days, when you do it is rare. Has eveyone good left the industry post covid... There were plenty of staff on the floor, but systems and training were clearly lacking, and the basic good standards sadly lacking. As soon as we walked in lack of a clear greeting was a sign of what was to come. We ended up waiting far too long for our mains to arrive. Other tables also complaining and warning us about the lack of service. The place itself is beautifully & tastefully done. The menu reads incredibly well. The food did not disappoint. I sat eating the Fish Soup, trying to recall a better soup that I had ever eaten. This, I have to say was the best, absolutely incredible. The rest of the dishes were well cooked, and good, but nothing knock out. Rarely give reviews, but the lack of service was a big issue. One guy seemed to be more senior, but he was way out of his depth. Not even a goodbye as we left despite making eye contact with the Manager and floor staff! Would not recommend until the service is sorted out.

Lovely breakfast options, great tea and coffee, but all spoilt by the most miserable, unfriendly staff member serving, I've ever had the misfortune to be served by. It wasn't just us either, she was like it with everyone. It made us laugh to read the poster in store (shown). the secret is apparently " real smiles..... friendly banter..... " Not on a Monday morning apparently. I know it's probably a thankless task, I get that, but isn't customer service and a smile part of that job? We went into Clarks village and every other shop worker, bar none, gave us a friendly greeting and a smile. I hope she's OK, I recommend meditating first thing to help with stress. Update: I'm assuming that your response to my review is sarcasm, otherwise you really are clueless and your claims to value customer service are simply talk.
