The quarter jack wells in Mendip

Went for the fish and chips with mushy peas. Cold peas and a small handful of chips. Sent it back but was told carry on eating will bring out a warmer bowl of peas. Only had a little left on my plate to eat when a replacement bowl was delivered and no extra chips

This place is going downhill. It’s a go to place for us for a quick bite. Our last visit the food was warm not hot (curry, fish and chips and mixed grill). It was busy as we were in peak times and could see they were understaffed so didn’t say anything, just accepted it . It was edible. Visited again tonight 7.30pm (on a Thursday). Couldn’t find a table. It wasn’t overly busy but literally half the tables in the place were cluttered with dirty plates and empty glasses. Eventually found a clean table and sat. Ordering in the app and could hear a chap next to us complaining to his companion that he ordered a pint 25 minutes ago and not delivered. He eventually went to the bar to get his drink. Several items unavailable on the menu. Sat near the kitchen and could hear the server complains to the chef saying he “can’t send that out” looking at the food lined up that had been sat under the heat lamps in the ten mins we were there we left and went elsewhere.

Meal was freezing cold, say its a large fry up, no tomatoes, no black pudding, no mushrooms... The waitress cleaning up was slam dunking plates into a trolley around us... toilets were disgusting Overall a massive waste of money and food, have a bit of pride in your job, if you're gonna do something do it properly and not half-arsed

We ordered 2xfish and chips, then we were told that the fish fryer had broken down, my alternative was vegetarian curry, the assistant came back, and then I was told that there was none left, so I ordered a peperoni pizza, to then be told that they had no peperoni left, I then ordered a burger and alas I was successful, my grandson ordered a pizza, the sauce on it was minimal and only a scattering of cheese, he took one bite and he referred it to a cardboard texture and not a pleasant taste, how can you go so wrong with a pizza?, we sent it back and got a refund for it, my husbands curry was only just warm, our overall experience was not good, we won't visit this establishment again.

Place is wonderfully laid out with plenty of seating and character. Displays the local area's history. Food is typical Wetherspoon standard, cheap and cheerful.

Classic spoons. Well laid out. Larger than most. Just let down by some ignorant staff. Need training.

Sunday lunchtime and called in for light snack. A long list of foods were listed as not available.

Entering a pub as a female alone awaiting others to arrive can feel a little daunting. This pub was huge and the guy at the bar friendly and talkative whilst he took my order. The food arrived really promptly and was tasty and the venue had a range of seating available for most group sizes. The table was still dirty from the previous occupants but the lad who brought the food had a spray and cloth on his belt and promptly cleaned it when asked.

I was very very disappointed with the whole experience, I have a dog whom is part of the family, only to be told, she was NOT allowed on the patio area of the pub ,what difference is an assisted dog to a domestic dog ,they both do the same thing ,!!!!!!!!!! Also another family turned up with there dog only AGAIN to be turned away ,what a way to lose business, we will not be coming back, thumbs down for us 👎

The food was returned twice, and upon receiving the refund, it was not the full amount.

Had Jamie B. On the till it was his first day he was very good. Gave him a difficult order with things changed, he was polite and friendly and we brought our drinks out for us. The actual venue is pretty cool with decent garden. We ate outside. It's aesthetically pleasing. All the staff seem friendly. Toilets are clean. 4 meals with drink came in at £30 can't go wrong! (2 x large fish and chips, small Wiltshire ham egg chips, chicken strips burger and chips, side of wings and blue cheese dip)

Very comfortable pub, friendly and helpful staff. Was maintained well, no dirt or grime, ample places to sit and eat/drink.

Breakfast waiting time was a long wait,when it finally arrived,one order was missed and then another long wait All food got cold ruining my son's birthday breakfast treat

The worst Wetherspoon we’ve ever been to. The place was very quiet so we expected to have quick and easy service like every other Wetherspoon but it was far from that. The place itself was quite dirty, many tables uncleared and gross looking, place felt quite dingy. When we placed the order my app said food wait times were 18mins however it took 40 for our food to arrive and when we tracked down a member of staff down to ask how long our food would be all she said was “did you order on the app? food wait is up to 40 minutes.” But how she spoke came across quite abrupt. Now I’ve understand if the restaurant was busy however it was busy at all. Our drinks also took a while to arrive, at least 15 minutes, we did order a Jaipur but we were told they had sold out so we replaced that with a lemonade but I did not receive any money back for the Jaipur they hadn’t got. I ordered a pimms which usually comes with fruits in however when it arrived there was none in there so it didn’t quite feel the same. The glasses our drinks arrived in were dirty with sticky remnants of other drinks around the tops however the staff walked around visibly with face on and quite grumpy which was off putting so we felt it wasn’t worth bringing these issues to their attention. When the food arrived it was edible to say the least but definitely not worth the 40 minute wait, my grandad’s fish was quite disappointing was very small, basically no fish all batter. It’s a shame as we always enjoy Wetherspoon and the food and staff are usually very good and friendly however not here so I would avoid here at all costs and go somewhere worth your time and money.

Waited at bar for 10 mins only one person serving. Ordered food and wasn't told there was a long waiting time went to get salt which was empty asked for salt only to be told by young man in an abrupt manner there wasn't any. So I asked and was given a refund.

Tables are filthy and the food is... Well the wrap was literally a folder up tortilla. The app said food times were 14 minutes. 40 minutes later it finally arrived.

Popped in for some food on the way through the town. Ordered a double cheeseburger and a drink and it came incredibly quickly, it was tasty, value for money, although there could have been more chips on the plate. Parking was easy, toilets clean, nothing to complain about.

We came before heading home and we came in ordered on app x was fine xx we had to ask for our drinks , and my mocha was like water with tiny bit of coffee x disappointed!

Spoons! They are all the same, cheap and just edible.

We eat in spoons a lot and always have a good experience but not with this one unfortunately. My curry came to the table chilled, and once it was taken back and heated it up, it was incredibly bland and watery. The other curries on the table were very poor, mushy meat and no flavour. My drink tasted like the lines hadn't been cleaned, had a mouldy aftertaste. The chicken wings were good and that's about it.

One of the worst Wetherspoons experiences I've had for a long time. Couldn't order pepperoni pizza on the app, then someone successfully ordered one at the bar. My partner ordered a curry which was very watery and still cold when it arrived; she asked for it to be heated up and it still came back chilly. My son and I had beef madras, which was literally the second worst curry I have eaten. It was like a tin of dog food had been mixed with a table spoon of Tesco value Madras sauce. We didn't complain further, because we were tired and didn't really trust that anything was likely to be improved by further trips to the kitchen. To be fair, I've had a breakfast there before which was adequate, but this visit was shocking.

More staff needed for the amount of customers that use this place. Not run very well and staff are clearly overstretched Food good but don't expect to get it as fast as you would at other Whetherspoons, our last 3 visits we waited nearly 45 minutes, that's after having to choose somet hing different 3 times because they've not got what you'd like. Which has happened every time we've been. Mainly their 3 for £15 menu, great value but need to order more stock as this happens frequently. Overall a great place, but don't be in a hurry!

I generally love Spoons but this one I'd avoid after today. Ordered food. Drinks arrive and all seemed well. After 45 minutes I asked at the counter if everything was fine. The barmaid said it was. After 1.10 went again and the kitchen claim no record of the order. It was chaos in there. Get it sorted Wetherspoons.

1 hour waiting for food is way way too long.

Went on a Friday evening march 2025 , shocking experience, burger patties were burnt hard and stone cold , seved with about 8 hard chips in the smallest bun I've ever been served , my friends tiny cod and chips served with mushy peas must have come out of the fridge as it was so cold , several tables around me were also talking about how bad their food was ,,cold and burnt ect , this happened before but I thought let's try it again !! Never again this place is an embarrassment to the city of wells .

Dirty plates across tables throughout restaurant, dirty cutlery, grumpy sullen staff, cold bland dried out food, we realised after we left that there were items missing, all round worst dinner experience ever, and it wasn't even a busy night. We waited for someone to come and check with us how things were, as is usual in anywhere that serves food, but nobody came - presumably because they were aware of all the above.

Didn't have food, but what I saw being served looked really tasty. Only drank Carling, but was very happy with the price...£2.63 a pint...thank you, Sir Martin. Staff were very attentive, always busy, a credit to the company. Toilets were immaculately clean. An extremely enjoyable experience overall. Would highly recommend.

Once again this is the lousiest, horrendous Wetherspoons in the UK. The staff have got attitude issues as well as needing personality transplants, the whole lot of them! A so-called manageress in particular was on duty, clearly in the wrong job! The food is absolutely dreadful, and month after month many of us just watch this parody of a pub go down the toilet

Surprisingly stylish for a Wetherspoons, the Quarter Jack offers a solid bar experience with a good selection of beers, ciders, and spirits at unbeatable prices. The atmosphere is lively without being chaotic, and the staff are friendly and efficient—even when it’s busy. It’s got the classic ‘Spoons affordability but with a more polished, modern feel. Great spot for a casual drink without breaking the bank!

It an nice cozy pub (its a Wetherspoon), serving the basic british meals and drinks available. I had a small breakfast, the price was amazing and the meal was great The menu has really great prices and the service super friendly

Took an age to get a drink as there was only one bar staff serving. While there were other dotted around. Food poor when it came and basic. But a nice clean pub all the same.

The food was as expected, the service very friendly and efficient. No chocolate in either machine, when reported no attempt to resolve. The tables were not cleaned after the tables had been cleared, floor under tables messy. Toilets spotless.

Food was junk, and the place was so dirty

Wow! where do you start to write about a dreadful.pub with the grumpiest staff who slam your drinks on the table and then serve you a burger with a bun so rock hard that you could actually recreate the scene in 'about a boy' where the boy kills the duck throwing bread in. Staff need to either leave and pursue a job they want to do or they need to learn some customer/people skills as they looked totally miserable! Thank the lord above I don't live here as I would be utterly ashamed to say this pub was in my neck of the woods! We waited an hour for this joy too! Home beckons so off we go!

Most of the service staff are pleasent, one is not. Fantastic range of Ales and Ciders. Food mostly very good but, on occasions for some unknown reason has been luke warm. But I personally love the place

Ordered food, when it came out food was cold and only 6 chips on the plate. Cold fried eggs with the gammon. Absolutely disgusting. Really gone down hill to what it used to be. Food should always be bought out hot if you can't do that then I suggest you get someone that can!

Really need to keep a tab on the clientele especially the ones that bully and cause the atmosphere to disappear into the void.

Food was good, accidentally clicked on the wrong order on the app. Was due a refund on an order by a Member of staff but was declined due to communication with demanding a refund and was spoken rudely too by the staff.

Well done weatherspoons for letting us a the room. And for turning the heating up. Many thanks for the excellent service your young lady gave us.

Nice place, nice atmosphere, delicious food at affordable prices

I didn't eat, but the food looked and smelled great with not much left on plates. The pub and WC were clean, including the bar area. The staff were friendly and helpful. I had two pints of stout, very reasonably priced and cracking. I will return.

The staff seemed a bit too busy and the meal could have been hotter. However a great venue and one of the better Weatherspoons. Make sure if you go to the toilet that you do not get lost on the way back.

Got a table easily but it appeared that only 1 person was serving behind the bar, so slow service which got steadily slower the busier the pub became (ordering on the app was not an option for us). Been here before, and would return. Spoons is Spoons! 🍻

A great place to visit, eat drink and be merry. Early Saturday night near Christmas on this particular night full of evey type of people enjoying their night. Food was served in good time and quality by polite staff that looked so busy. Thank you to all in The Quarter Jack!

I went here to watch the annual carnival go by, I ended up having a meal, which was nice, it didn't take long to arrive either. This place is now on my list of eateries. Although it was carnival night, this place got really busy, which was not surprising.

We visited the Quarter Jack on the 3rd Dec, we had our usual fish n chips. It was the worse fish and chips we had in there. The batter on the fish was rock hard like it had been recooked from the day before. The fish was even burnt and was very dry. We go there all the time when we visit wells. If a member of staff would have asked me about the meal, I would have told them, not one person asked us. This is very unusual because every other time we were always asked if the meal was ok, perhaps they knew it was not. Very poor customer service and the cook needs some training.

We haven’t used Wetherspoons very often but were impressed by a visit to Wells. Called in mid-afternoon on Tuesday, it was quiet, tables clean and staff were welcoming and friendly. We both had Sirloin Steak - one standard and the other ‘Gourmet.’ When they arrived meals were both standard but the mistake was rectified and with apologies - missing items came quickly but by then we had started eating so shared them between us. Steaks were properly cooked to medium, juicy, slightly charred (which is good) tender and impressive for the price. Plates were also hot which isn’t always the case. Two glasses of Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc included and all for under £25. We paid more for a single steak at another well-known restaurant chain last month which wasn’t as good.

We went today about 1.30 4 adults and 2 children. The place was packed we had to wait a short while for a table. We ordered via the app. Our drinks arrived almost straight away. We had to wait over an hour for our food to arrive .when it did it was cold, and the place had emptied out a lot by then.

Food/breakfast was way over cooked all we got back was an apology and that it'll be passed onto the chef! Drinks had more ice than drink which was best pleased with.. the atmosphere/building was amazing but definitely seems like they concentrated more on making it look amazing than how to cook.. won't be coming back until the food has improved.

Very basic food, the fish was small with very little thickness, it actually looked like an over cooked kipper in batter.

Pretty standard Wetherspoons. Visited Sunday evening, and maybe they had a busy day as a lot of dirty tables and floors etc. service quite slow, food arrived before drinks. Portions in Wetherspoons aren't what they were, but still just about reasonable value given you can get a drink included

We had a couple of meals here whilst we had a mini break in Somerset. The pub isn't huge but we didn't have any trouble finding a table. The service was a bit sketchy on the Sunday but I guess this is traditionally a quieter day so I don't think they had as many staff working. Interestingly the food here was about £2 cheaper per item (apart from the kid's menu and desserts which seem fixed everywhere) than the Wetherspoons in Street. It's not right in the centre of Wells but close enough and parking after 5 seemed easy enough.

Food was ok typical spoons, however the disrespectful team that were working there should be ashamed of themselves!!! I had no egg I asked it seemed like a problem even tho the meal came with it the attitude was beyond a joke. I will never be coming here again!!!

Experienced not up to standard food on 3 occasions within a month very disappointing and staff not interested of refunding on food. So had to eat it not to waste our money. Will not be going in the future at anytime soon

Food was average for a spoons. An issue with the system resulted in mix up of food orders, which wasn’t an issue until staff members were extremely rude to me when trying to chase up an obviously forgotten drink order when the rest of the table had received their drinks. However, the restaurant within itself was lovely theres just evidently an issue with customer service.

Gave me and my mate the worst diarrhoea. NO JOKE. Careful with their beef.

Been going here a few times and the last 3 times we had food either the jacket potato seemed off or the food ie chips egg were really cold , staff not very helpful , not interested .

3rd time in as many weeks. Cold food and I mean cold sent back twice then rest of food even colder on return. Staff seem short on the ground and have no interest in complaint. Asked for part refund as hungry and needed to eat and said unable to do that. Promptly walked off. Been going since open. Will not return such a disappointment. Terrible. Terrible staff. Spoons sort this place out
