Menu looked interesting so booked table online as staying in area. Relaxed restaurant, we sat upstairs. Lovely front of house guy and one hardworking waitress. Food was wonderful, fish cakes as a main, delicate flavour, steak perfectly cooked. Dessert, I’m still thinking about it…….poached pear, blackcurrant (I think) chestnut cream and honeycomb, wow. Couple of glasses of Merlot, everything perfect. A lovely relaxing evening, absolutely lovely staff, we shall visit again.

Oh dear. Sad, tired and dirty. This used to be a great venue. The food was, at best, average. The gents loo had a large puddle and nobody seems to be interested in doing anything about it. The ladies loo was scruffy and dirty. Needs investment or even just a coat of paint.

I stayed here for a night on a cycle trip. The staff were really welcoming and helpful with storing my bike, nothing was too much trouble. The room was a bit small but characterful and nicely decorated. The pub itself is full of character and the food and service were both fabulous. And of course the beer was top notch. Thoroughly recommended.

Quite possibly the best UK hotel experience I can remember. The archangel is absolutely amazing from the moment you walk in off the street and throughout . Every detail is beautiful; the charming courtyard garden bar, the immaculate rest rooms, the restaurant and best of all, the room we stayed in. We opted for one of the attic rooms with roll top bath and so glad we did. Really comfortable bed and despite town central location, unbelievably quiet. The restaurant serves amazing food. Breakfast was outstanding btw. Every member of staff was attentive, courteous and lovely. They all added to our stay immensely. We occasionally come to Frome for gigs and the archangel is now our go to for future visits. Love it here x

Just stayed at the Archangel this weekend for a couple of nights. The team were very Welcoming. Check in was smooth and everything fully explained to us about our stay. Our bedroom was in the courtyard which we didn't mind but for others who were hoping for a romantic retreat this may not be for you as the walls are barely thin. You could hear the pub drinkers chatting away whilst in your room and you can hear the hoteliers in the room next door cough. Location was brilliant short 2min walk to the station should you want to go into Bath (don't drive it's a nightmare parking) or you a literally on the main high street of Frome if you stay local. All in all had a lovely stay and will stay again when visiting friends in Frome.

Enjoyed our stay, warm inviting feel to the hotel, has a few side rooms with open fires and sofas. Bar area and seating and stairs to an open mezzanine and further seating for diners. We had drinks and our evening meal at the hotel and were very good. Our room (6) was off the main entrance hallway up a very tight narrow stairs ( be aware of this if you are infirm ). The room had the wow factor as it was a converted loft space, open plan on split level with rolled top brass bath tub. Usual coffee/tea etc, only small issue which we find in a lot of hotel rooms is they dont put any power sockets next to the mirror so you cant blow dry your hair in front of a mirror, annoying common issue. No parking, but we used the council run carpark next to M&S behind the hotel only pay to 6pm, renew at 9am the following day, dont use the larger Eurocarpark right next to it as more expensive and limited time allowed. The staff were all very welcoming and attentive and would recommend this hotel.

A lovely room, huge bath, clean & decor lovely. Spacious bar areas & beer garden. Only downside was service at dinner. We waited over an hour for food, when it arrived the chips were cold. Vibrant and fabulous boutique hotel come trendy & fashionable guest house set as a little enclave courtyard layout in the heart of Frome. The entire concept and layout is appealing and relaxed. There’s plenty of social cozy nooks with a cool bar and full restaurant service. The food is ‘very good’ hearty bistro style and the hot cooked breakfast a delight to wake up to is £included which makes the expensive room much better value for money. I had the snazzy room with the Cowboy Bath tub which is funky my daughter had a standard double. Rooms are a little tired they’re not 100% gleaming,, but the service and staff are lovely friendly and welcoming and putting themself out for the customers which actually overrides and compensates. Gemma the boss has selected a great team to work with, so a big 👍 up and I conclude my review with the mark of a high recommendation to book a room when your next visiting Frome 😎

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was cosy except the bathroom was dirty . The toilet wasn’t cleaned thoroughly; there were brown stains in the pan! I didn’t used the shower either as the tiles had mold and dirt on them. If I had been staying longer I would have asked for the to be cleaned properly. It was quite expensive to stay there. It should have been spotless. Also parking: There wasn’t anywhere near to park. It took me ages to find an all day car park. It would be a good idea to give guests better information on where to park.

Updated review, August 2024. New chef/management. Brilliant roast dinner. The best I've had in Frome. The roast beef medium rare. The cauliflower cheese is an excellent optional side dish. Highly recommend. Service much better than before. ( 2022)We had Sunday lunch. The beef was over done and tough as old boots. The Yorkshire puddings were also well over and not nice. The vegetables were really good. Roast potatoes were superb. The side of cauliflower cheese was very good and highly recommended. I'll opt for the pork or chicken next time. Service poor.

I enjoy staying at The Archangel, usually using the single room. All was well for my recent stay, other than this time noticing large clumps of dust under the bed. The lower rating I have given to 'service' relates to that and waiting half an hour for 2 croissants to arrive for breakfast, by which time my coffee had gone cold and had to be reheated/renewed. The croissants were also not fresh and flaky, but possibly frozen ones that had to be baked. They were hard & not up to usual standard. Other guests who had cooked breakfasts seemed pleased with these & they took no longer to arrive than my breakfast. I will stay again, but I hope the issues I've mentioned will be addressed.

We arrived without a reservation at about 7.30 on a Monday evening. After a short wait we were given a table for two but advised that there would be a delay of around 25 minutes before we could place our order. We agreed to this but then after about 35 minutes we were told that they were unable to fulfill our order at all! The chef was too busy! . Oh dear. Half the dishes on the menu were not available so we were only going to order two salads anyway. Fortunately we were able to find another eatery nearby that was able to provide food.

We used to love Archangel until it really really went down hill. It was dirty, smelt of old cooking oil, the garden was grotty and the staff were more interested in chatting by the coffee machine instead of serving customers. Today was like walking into a totally difference place. It was clean, bright and fresh. We were welcomed with a lovely smile and the service is so much more efficient and welcoming. It genuinely seems to run by people who actually care. The only gripe is the crispy polenta was chronically under-seasoned and had no flavour with no salt available on the table. However, the menu is so much more exciting than it was. We spied the Sunday menu and plan to revisit. If the improvements continue on the same trajectory it will quickly become the place to visit in Frome.

We were in a restaurant with the children. The service was not very organized, but was extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating. Unfortunately, some of the menu was not available. Hired out one of their private function rooms - ‘The Library’ for a family members baby shower. It was the perfect space for a small and intimate get together. Located upstairs from the main bar - it was easy enough to pop downstairs for drinks or to use the loo. The staff were all very friendly and behaved in a professional and polite manner at all times. Most offering their help if we needed them for anything. Gemma - the lady that runs the venue is brilliant. Really personable and enthusiastic to deliver what it was I was looking for. The event itself ran smoothly with staff working assisting throughout. Nothing seemed too much trouble. And they were also kind enough to let us pick up a few decorations the following evening as well. A beautiful venue - perfectly positioned in the town centre. The entrance is on a busy side road with no parking. This made it a little tricky to load/unload bits for the party. But we figured it out and it wasn’t an issue luckily…for general visits there is a big car park located nearby.

The rooms & hotel interiors were rather miserable, dark, brown & so much black, with angel posters all over the place? perhaps if removed & replaced with a cheerie wall paper with pattern & colour? The bed in room 5 we slept in was the worst mattress I have EVER slept in, something similar to a white bread sandwich, really awful. Has potential to draw folk in, but lacked happiness and colour, joy even? Our dogs were made very welcome and the new evening manager, was welcoming thankyou.

Im a regular visitor to the Archangel and I am always very happy with the service they provide. It is by far the most dog friendly place in Frome, my dog always gets treated like royalty whenever we visit! He is also completely obsessed with the selection of dog threats they have on offer and insists on one everytime we visit. We are a big fan of the cosy snug areas where we often sit and chill for hours with a coffee (or cheeky cocktail). The cocktails are particularly good, especially if your served by the handsome bearded man, Mike. I have also noticed how lovely the atmosphere is since the new manager has started. The food is always so good and of a really high standard. If your are staying overnight, then definitely opt for a room with the free standing copper bath...it's definitely one of the highlights. Overall, the staff are lovely, food is great and you can bring the dog. Thanks guys for always making us feel so welcome.

Stayed the night, food was ok, had to wait 30 minutes for dessert, and that was Luke warm. The room was at the front of the building, noisy with evening traffic and the floor boards very very creaky. Also from a health and safety point, the kettle for morning tea, was directly under the television, the steam when boiling rising, into the back of the Tele is not the best idea , expensive for what it is. 😕

Something of a triumph of style over substance. Stayed as a hotel guest, a big attic room with free standing bath but radiators didn't work, no milk on tea tray, laminate floor squeaks at every step, mattress collapsing somewhat. Can't fault the restaurant food but we were gobsmacked to be told at 9.30 (6 in our party) that the restaurant and bar was closing at 10.00 as it was 'so quiet' and we would have to get out. The bar was humming and people were still comkng in however. After some Frank exchanges, and some negotiation, the manager relented but it made for an unpleasant atmosphere at the end of what had been a good night.

My wife and I were booked in to The Archangel as we had a "VIP Giraffe Experience" booked at Longleat. We decided to stay over two nights - 22nd & 23rd November - in order to also see what Frome was like! Our stay at the hotel was great and our room was very comfortable and spacious. However, what really made it for us were the staff and the wonderful food - dinner and breakfast - and it felt like we had been away for more than the two days! We would like to thank Mike - the Assistant Manager - and his team for looking after us and our needs met. As and when we return to Frome - which was very picturesque and lovely - we will certainly be knocking on the door of The Archangel! Marilyn & Pat

Not a boutique room as advertised. Small, noisy, poor TV reception if any, no carpet or rug. Food was poor choice, no specials not even fish and chips on a Friday night, not very warm and generally poor quality. Service was fluctuating with some good and some just not helpful service. Trying to book was a trial in itself but eventually booked a double for two and a dog. Then they got itcwrong and charged extra for breakfast and £20 for the dog! Finally Butcombe, they would not allow us to use the loyalty card unless we used it when booking!! Not your finest Butcombe but have been to many others which are far superior. Never again.

This is a beautiful location and the room was just as advertised! Why the low review? The morning after our visit the breakfast was awful, the one member of staff ( who was lovely and trying her best)was completely overwhelmed, the experience was so far from what we expected, a long wait, incorrect order and pour food. This in itself was understandable with the large amount of covers at the time with minimal staff, what is not ok was the fact that I have twice emailed re our experience with no response. I was not looking for a freebie just an apology and recognition of the poor service, but I have not received a response. Frome is a place we will be visiting often as have family living there, I will however not be staying here. This is a pub with five star prices but absolutely not a five star star service. I have posted this review a month after staying as awaiting a response from the pub or parent company, neither has happened!!

Just ok. Visited here some years ago and was wowed by the atmosphere, building and food but seems to have flipped since. Similar menu but cheaper in quality, thicker, greasier batter, low quality condiments. Food was ok. Sharers we’re not sharer size. Decor is the same as it was 10 years ago roughly and hasn’t been all that well maintained (peeling paper the bathrooms), untidy bar, though the front which is now restaurant style looks nice the warmth and heart seems to be a bit lacking. Friendly enough staff but a lot of young bar staff hanging around with nothing to do, certainly not attending to customers.

Booked a table for the Frome market day after wanting to go here before but its always so busy. However upon walking in it was very quiet. Everywhere looked incredibly grubby and sticky. The lovely menu holder out the front also empty so looks like seriuos lack of management going on. We were shown to the dining room then left for a considerable amount of time - a guy was in and out but not really seeing to anyone. Finally we ordered food - although he stood quite far away with his back to us at the till - very odd ?! Other diners then started to recieve their food but all of them said it was unedible (a sunday roast so not sure how you can get that wrong) all meals were sent back so we decided to cancel our order and so did others. What a shame. I really dont like giving bad reviews but hopefully management will see this, take note and make some improvements so that we want to come back one day.

We recently visited this pub for an evening meal with some friends. The pub is nice enough and has some quirky features. We ordered our meals and the waitress came to say that one of mains was not available and that I would have to choose another. When the food came we one of the steaks we had ordered to be rare to medium was much more like rare. We then ordered deserts and again one of the choices was not available and a replacement had to be ordered. It is annoying that for a pub that was not particularly busy that two items were not available. We had the same issue when ordering cocktails from their set menu that two cocktails had to be replaced with another choice. To top it all this is a Butcombe Brewery owned pub and they ran out of Underfall lager. Overall an expensive meal for ordinary food.

Drove down from oxford for a day trip , wanted a nice place to eat with a garden for lunch .. found this beautiful old pub , loved the layout of the courtyard.. the food well what can I say .. we both opted for the jacket potato with bbq brisket .. absolutely stunning … To also add the staff were very polite and well organised.. tbh the highlight of the day for me

Feels and is run more like a youth hostel than an Inn. The staff are friendly and mean well, but lack experience and ultimately the venue is a ‘drinkers pub’ with rooms. This means that the rooms are noisy, mostly accessible off a busy courtyard full of tables and groups drinking who you need to push through to access your room. The venue overall is worn out and a bit dirty. Service was poor (even though the staff are friendly) with us waiting 30mins for a breakfast drinks order to be taken and then another 45mins for a poorly cooked breakfast to arrive which we left and found a cafe instead. We did contemplate walking out of breakfast but it became a bit of a joke to see how long they could actually take to bring 2 breakfasts! I really wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Welcomed to be told that there had been sewage issues from the heavy rain. Room was damp (there had been excessive rain but even so). Breakfast was terrible; Just lacklustre service . Only shining light was the barman who served us late at night on return from dinner

Quirky pub with very friendly staff. Nice to sit out in garden area. Room was fine - although could do with a few improvements: it was a bit dusty and shower dripped, plus only one set of towels (only noticed late at night do no pint asking for another set then!). Lively vibe in the pub - food was ok: some dishes better than others. Same for breakfast - the smashed avocado on sourdough with poached egg wasn’t sourdough but fairly cold muffin with barely any avocado and hard eggs. Best part of the pub is the helpful and accommodating staff - a couple of staff members were really great.

The hotel was so lovely and quirky. The rooms were very large and nicely equipped, and were very clean. I guess the only down side I could say was that there was no milk sachets available on the tea and coffee area, but that didnt ditract from us having an amazing stay. The staff were so lovely and helpful. The food was really good, we had dinner and breakfast and really cant complain about anything. Will definately be back.

Lovely setting, disappointing food. Beautiful pub garden and great range of drinks. However, we were truly disappointed with the food, it looked lovely but was cold (roast and pasta dish). There appeared to be lots of staff and yet very slow service and bar regularly...

Called in for drinks . My wine was fine but the place is not good needs a good clean and paint as the place looks very grubby. This is why I chose not to eat at this place .

Whilst wandering around Frome , we liked the look of this pub so stopped for lunch . The decor is quirky and interesting with a great outdoor space . The food was ok , if a little underwhelming.

Visited for Kiefer Sutherland gig. Place was boiling hot on a not particularly hot summer's day. Little to no ventilation and no A/C. The side doors all around the audience were left closed. This seemed ridiculous given the temperature. Security staff were handing out free water to the audience when all they needed to do was open the side doors. Even Kiefer reminded the audience to drink water as a few of the audience had fainted! Luckily I had a portable fan so I was ok,but many weren't.
