Great weekend trip to the Archangel. Wow,what a quirky and comfortable room, the service from all of the team was great and breakfast and dinner were excellent. I think my only gripe was the price of a bottle of Prosecco which is outrageous at £33.95.

Staff were fantastic, everyone who served us was friendly - at check in, for drinks, at dinner and in the morning for breakfast. Room was really clean. Unfortunately we didn’t get a good sleep due to the lack of sound insulation from the room next door - maybe due to the interconnecting door. We could hear extremely loud snoring all night and the woke very early with an alarm and then we heard them go about everything in the morning. We heard their conversation word for word. It not only meant we didn’t sleep well but made us a feel a bit uncomfortable! There was also a really really bright light in the room - a safety demand I think - but it was so bright that added to us not getting a good night. Shame as the pub was lovely and staff are amazing.

Stayed with a one year old and my parents for one night this week, we booked through the central reservation line for Butcombe stays a single room with travel cot and a superior room (with roll top bath). Had a few issues on arrival - parking was not located where advised when booking, then rooms were on the first floor when requested ground (not easy with a pram)! But it got much better from there - the rooms themselves are fantastically appointed and comfortable. My parents enjoyed the bath and double sinks and my daughter loved that our room placement actually meant she could easily run between us. We had a fabulous meal at the restaurant, kindly offered in a private space given how delayed our check-in had been, and then breakfast the next morning was brilliant. My main take-away is to be extra vigilant and call again the night before to confirm arrangements when travelling with a baby, but would certainly stay again. A lot of thanks to Jasper, Lee and Eve who helped us so much.

Food as cold as the welcome... Such a shame to say that the Sunday lunch here was awful, but it was. There is a lot to suggest that it should be good - the ingredients seemed good quality, the offering and pricing seems right... But the reality is a lukewarm meal, missing many items advertised on the menu, served by people who seem to resent your presence. My advice would be, 'don't waste your money'.

After an earlier disappointing experience we were invited back by the Archangel this time the service and the room couldn't have been more different, the attention to detail was so much better, the staff customers service was great and room lovely which set us up for a great day on Sunday at the Independent market in Frome. A lovely place to stay, very central location. Beautiful buildings and very friendly staff. The room was very nice but could do with a spruce up… ie grouting and rusty towel rail in bathroom and a coat of paint in bedroom. Breakfast was delicious with so many choices. Overall a very pleasant stay and wouldn’t hesitate to book again.

My friend & I popped in for drinks and a light bite before going to the cinema. The Service was friendly and efficient. My friend had the truffle fries and said they were tepid. I had the cheeseboard and have to say that for over £12, it was pretty pathetic! (See pic) Only 2 cheeses (and not much of them) some crackers, chutney, 2 slices of gherkin and some watercress which looked like an afterthought. Won't bother eating here again.

Staying at another hotel opposite the Archangel, we ventured in for drinks and were delighted with the welcoming atmosphere and the cheerful staff - we sat in one of several "sitting rooms" off a covered walkway that leads through to the back bar estaurant. A couple of these sitting rooms have huge roaring fires and the staff were happy to stoke them when they start to burn down. We enjoyed trying many of the cocktails that were on a special price for two - in fact we tried them on two nights as we liked them so much. We got chatting to the manager of the hotel, who showed us a couple of their lovely bedrooms - we wished we were staying at the Archangel this time! Please note that the hotel is due for redecoration works in late Spring 2025 so check first if you plan to book accommodation. We ate dinner at the Archangel on the second night of our stay in Frome and enjoyed good food and wine. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. A lovely, unusual, quaint pub/hotel.

Had a family Christmas get together, table was booked, had to wait an hour to be seated, room was upstairs, not very inviting, table wasn’t laid apart from name cards. No Christmas crackers, asked if there were any crackers, told, only on Christmas day? Our starter which was pear, rhubarb, beetroot with goats cheese and walnuts was all a bit thrown together in a bowl. Looked like it had been stored in the fridge for 24 hours. The Turkey mains was terrible, not hot, undercooked pigs n blankets, very little gravy, no seasoning to the food, sprouts and gravy came out separately about 30 minutes later, the sprouts were almost raw! Dessert was no different, luckily I had cheese board, which you can’t really get wrong, however some family members had the poached pear, the pear was also raw, impossible to cut even with a knife. The chocolate rice pudding came out, about 30 minutes late, we had asked for jugs of water at the start, these appeared at least an hour later. Overall, everyone was disappointed, the manageress had said they were busy that day and under staffed, she took the desserts off the bill, along with the 10% surcharge, also gave us a 10% discount on the whole meal. I am leaving this review based on facts, maybe this can help them understand the overall impact of a bad meal and service and hopefully can improve from it, would I eat there again, Id have to think long and hard about it. Disappointing!

My friend and I dined at the Archangel last Friday evening before going to see Abba at the Cheese and Grain. We had a warm welcome in the bar, lovely cocktails and the staff even took our photo in front of the Christmas tree. We had starters and mains. I had the pear, walnut and cheese starter it was tasty but could have done with a little more cheese. We both had burgers one chicken one beef, we shared and both were excellent. My friend ordered a 2nd cocktail with her main course and I had a wine, sadly the cocktail never arrived, no drama and was taken off of the bill without any quible. I know its the silly season but the waiting staff were a little stretched upsatirs hence the reason for not giving you 5 stars.

The Archangel is in the centre of Frome, steps away from key sites like Cheap St, Catherine Hill and the popular Frome Independent Market (runs on the first Sunday of the month). I chose to stay there as a treat, expecting a little bit of luxury, choosing a single room with bath as I was travelling alone. I was given a single room with a shower which I didn’t mind. Unfortunately, the room didn’t live up to expectations. It was tiny, dark and I was particularly surprised that I could hear the people in the room next to me - heritage buildings usually have thick walls. Also, even though the bar closes at 10pm, there was loud talking in the bar downstairs well past 11.30pm - I was woken early in the morning by the upstairs guests walking around on the wooden floors the next day too. If you have accessibility needs, this is not the place for you - there were stairs everywhere, flagstone (uneven floors in gone main bar) and even steps up to the shower. The sink was so close to the toilet, my knees were under the sink when sitting on the toilet - it would be too squishy for larger guests to use comfortably. It was not at all worth the £141.30 paid for the room - the only redeeming qualities were the staff I interacted with were lovely. For example, I was allowed to check in 1.5hrs early. I wish I’d saved my money and stayed elsewhere, I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

Every detail is beautiful; the charming courtyard garden bar, the immaculate rest rooms, the restaurant and best of all, the room we stayed in. We opted for one of the attic rooms with roll top bath and so glad we did. Really comfortable bed and despite town central location, unbelievably quiet. The restaurant serves amazing food. Just stayed at the Archangel this weekend for a couple of nights. The team were very Welcoming. Check in was smooth and everything fully explained to us about our stay. Our bedroom was in the courtyard which we didn't mind but for others who were hoping for a romantic retreat this may not be for you as the walls are barely thin. You could hear the pub drinkers chatting away whilst in your room and you can hear the hoteliers in the room next door cough. Location was brilliant short 2min walk to the station should you want to go into Bath (don't drive it's a nightmare parking) or you a literally on the main high street of Frome if you stay local. All in all had a lovely stay and will stay again when visiting friends in Frome.

Enjoyed our stay, warm inviting feel to the hotel, has a few side rooms with open fires and sofas. Bar area and seating and stairs to an open mezzanine and further seating for diners. We had drinks and our evening meal at the hotel and were very good. Our room (6) was off the main entrance hallway up a very tight narrow stairs ( be aware of this if you are infirm ). The room had the wow factor as it was a converted loft space, open plan on split level with rolled top brass bath tub. Usual coffee/tea etc, only small issue which we find in a lot of hotel rooms is they dont put any power sockets next to the mirror so you cant blow dry your hair in front of a mirror, annoying common issue. No parking, but we used the council run carpark next to M&S behind the hotel only pay to 6pm, renew at 9am the following day, dont use the larger Eurocarpark right next to it as more expensive and limited time allowed. The staff were all very welcoming and attentive and would recommend this hotel.

Vibrant and fabulous boutique hotel come trendy & fashionable guest house set as a little enclave courtyard layout in the heart of Frome. The entire concept and layout is appealing and relaxed. There’s plenty of social cozy nooks with a cool bar and full restaurant service. The food is ‘very good’ hearty bistro style and the hot cooked breakfast a delight to wake up to is £included which makes the expensive room much better value for money. I had the snazzy room with the Cowboy Bath tub which is funky my daughter had a standard double. Rooms are a little tired they’re not 100% gleaming,, but the service and staff are lovely friendly and welcoming and putting themself out for the customers which actually overrides and compensates. Gemma the boss has selected a great team to work with, so a big 👍 up and I conclude my review with the mark of a high recommendation to book a room when your next visiting Frome 😎

I enjoy staying at The Archangel, usually using the single room. All was well for my recent stay, other than this time noticing large clumps of dust under the bed. The lower rating I have given to 'service' relates to that and waiting half an hour for 2 croissants to arrive for breakfast, by which time my coffee had gone cold and had to be reheated/renewed. The croissants were also not fresh and flaky, but possibly frozen ones that had to be baked. They were hard & not up to usual standard. Other guests who had cooked breakfasts seemed pleased with these & they took no longer to arrive than my breakfast. I will stay again, but I hope the issues I've mentioned will be addressed.

After a short wait we were given a table for two but advised that there would be a delay of around 25 minutes before we could place our order. We agreed to this but then after about 35 minutes we were told that they were unable to fulfill our order at all! The chef was too busy! . Oh dear. We used to love Archangel until it really really went down hill. It was dirty, smelt of old cooking oil, the garden was grotty and the staff were more interested in chatting by the coffee machine instead of serving customers. Today was like walking into a totally difference place. It was clean, bright and fresh. We were welcomed with a lovely smile and the service is so much more efficient and welcoming. It genuinely seems to run by people who actually care. The only gripe is the crispy polenta was chronically under-seasoned and had no flavour with no salt available on the table. However, the menu is so much more exciting than it was. We spied the Sunday menu and plan to revisit. If the improvements continue on the same trajectory it will quickly become the place to visit in Frome.

The loft room was very warm even with all the windows open. If you need a shower be prepared to bring a plastic mat as the bath is metal! And right up against a sloping roof! Took some contortions to shower, not a room for less able or tall people.

Hired out one of their private function rooms - ‘The Library’ for a family members baby shower. It was the perfect space for a small and intimate get together. Located upstairs from the main bar - it was easy enough to pop downstairs for drinks or to use the loo. The staff were all very friendly and behaved in a professional and polite manner at all times. Most offering their help if we needed them for anything. Gemma - the lady that runs the venue is brilliant. Really personable and enthusiastic to deliver what it was I was looking for. The event itself ran smoothly with staff working assisting throughout. Nothing seemed too much trouble. And they were also kind enough to let us pick up a few decorations the following evening as well. A beautiful venue - perfectly positioned in the town centre. The entrance is on a busy side road with no parking. This made it a little tricky to load/unload bits for the party. But we figured it out and it wasn’t an issue luckily…for general visits there is a big car park located nearby.

The staff were really lovely and made us feel welcome 😊 the room felt really luxurious - the bed was super comfy! Dinner was delicious too. The icing on the cake for us was that they were dog friendly through and through 😊 Frome is also a lovely quirky town to explore - we will definitely be back!

Lovely hotel. Lots of little details make this a lovely place to stay. Central location for the town. The breakfast, which was included in the price, was the best Full English I've ever had! Helpful and friendly staff, will definitely stay here again!

The rooms & hotel interiors were rather miserable, dark, brown & so much black, with angel posters all over the place? perhaps if removed & replaced with a cheerie wall paper with pattern & colour? The bed in room 5 we slept in was the worst mattress I have EVER slept in, something similar to a white bread sandwich, really awful. Has potential to draw folk in, but lacked happiness and colour, joy even? Our dogs were made very welcome and the new evening manager, was welcoming thankyou.

Ten of us had breakfast in the Archangel yesterday and couldn’t fault anything. We had a variety of breakfasts and all of them were excellent. The service was efficient and friendly and the restaurant, empty apart from our party, had a great atmosphere. We’ll certainly be back and would recommend the Archangel’s breakfasts to anybody.

Marvelous quirky, comfortable town centre pub. Lots of little coves and rooms for quiet and intimate meetings as well as the sunny courtyard and the bar. Great food and good beer too, a great range of drinks hot and cold. The staff are friendly and helpful

I was traveling down south through Frome and stopped here a bit late in the evening. I was quiet lost with finding out everything I needed for the next day. I was given plenty of information and help. The owner of this pub is an absolute Gentleman, The pub atmosphere is very friendly concidering its a small area and many lsmaller areas are not favorable to strangers. I'm looking forward to going back again.

Didn't have food, but what I saw being served looked really tasty. Only drank Carling, but was very happy with the price...£2.63 a pint...thank you, Sir Martin. Staff were very attentive, always busy, a credit to the company. Toilets were immaculately clean. An extremely enjoyable experience overall. Would highly recommend.
