Waitrose in North Hertfordshire

First time having breakfast here. Very good espresso and friendly service in a pleasant cafe area. Very disappointing scrambled egg on toast. Once slice of cold toast (which made it chewy) with a decidedly rubbery, solid lump of scrambled egg. It was lukewarm and was not freshly made; I suspect it had been done in the microwave and left to congeal. Not sure what eggs were used, but soft, warm and yellowy it was not! It was quite orangey and had no taste of eggs and a rubbery texture. Not a £5 meal; I could definitely have got something much tastier for less in town...Not a cafe to be recommended for food.

Dreadful new management, inexperienced and lacking any care or regard for their customers, even very loyal ones. Quality of products often sub-standard too & have had to take a number of things back. Feel for the staff as they've always been very welcoming and helpful. Was a great store once but has definitely taken wrong approach and just looking at the bottom-line, sadly.

Shocking service at the counter, very long wait for hot food delivery to table which still managed to arrive before avocado on toast !! No apology on late arrival. Complained on departure to be told “these things happen “ Totally unacceptable and the opposite of everything JLP purports to provide! Plenty of independents in Hitchin who will get our custom next time.

Limited choice of food, but what we had was very good. Toasted sandwich prepared quickly. Pot of tea gave two large cups.

My main shop for groceries I go there more or less daily, helpful staff varied food items which can’t be brought anywhere else.I miss the coffee machines hopefully will be brought back in to service at some point the only slight negative comment is the restroom needs updating in our local branch.

I love Waitrose. I love it's products, it's ethos and it's sustainability credentials, but on several occasions at the Hitchin branch I have been made to feel "less than worthy" by older staff. The younger staff are always polite and helpful, but older staff, senior members of the team have been quite rude. The latest incident involved me returning tomatoes (still in date) that were mouldy, and being told by the Waitrose person at customer service (the title must be ironic) how she would still eat them. I'm currently stood outside wondering how rude she was. Not quite believing. I spend an average of £60 per week in Waitrose, and want to continue to do so, but am feel ing very let down. They must try harder to be welcoming. Atm it is far from inclusive. Shame on you Waitrose.

Ordered 2 hot chocs with caramel & brownies etc also 1 with orange...waited for them for 15 ...also ordered 3 bacon rolls,which we're actually really nice! Hot chocolates were ALL lukewarm... So I wouldn't bother next time...sort it out waitrose!

Very very poor experience. Toilets are disgusting. Staff are nice enough but quite a few are rude. The managers walk around like the mafia and are extremely rude. One in particular (don't know his name) wears glasses, married or is a partner to one of the workers in there and oh my days he's so rude & unhelpful. The people on the coffee machine are also extremely rude and unhelpful. I have been going there on & off for 5 years and it hasn't improved one bit. So, Mr Waitrose I know you are in the process of sacking some people and may I suggest you start with the management here? You're welcome.

Siamo clienti abituali quando ci troviamo ad Hitchin per motivi familiari. I prodotti a marchio Waitrose sono davvero ottimi, specie nella linea Organic. I vini in particolare sono di qualità e a prezzo conveniente. Il servizio bar-coffee propone alcuni piatti buoni e ben eseguiti. Fin qui Waitrose meriterebbe 5 palline. Qualcosa da correggere nell'atteggiamento del personale (in generale cortese) salvo qualcuno alle casse. In particolare oggi, 19 febbraio alle 15.50 p.m.circa, un addetto all'ultima cassa a sinistra è stato particolarmente scortese. Non avevamo il tempo per segnalarlo alla Direzione ma per questo abbassiamo il voto a due palline.

Couldn't believe how long it took get a simple cup of coffee ! Staff more interested in chating than serving .

Visited this lunchtime 1245hrs and after waiting approx 10 minutes [3 people ahead) ordered 2 soups to be advised that all was gone and the next batch would be 15 mins warming up! Total waste of time & poor planning.

Unfortunately I have to say my experience was not as good as other visitors. Although the staff were friendly, they were getting quite muddled and there were uncleared tables everywhere. My order got changed and then forgotten altogether. :-(

We seldom visit this very busy store because of the cramped and awkward carpark. When we do go it is only to collect items from John Lewis which can be delivered there.

Before moving our weekly shop to Waitrose, I often heard how 'expensive' it was.I have found my weekly shop to be maybe £10 a week over what my partner and I would normally pay. But you really pay for what you get...The fruit and veg are always fantastic and stays well for the week! What I most like is the individual products that I have never seen elsewhere. It is often nice to try new things and I find Waitrose encourages this.The wine selection and organisation is also great!

Hemos venido aquí a tratar ahora y de nuevo, pero siendo durante la semana, no estaba demasiado concurrido. Mi marido pidió la hamburguesa y patatas fritas y mi hijo tenía una bolsa de niños. La bolsa de niños bien vale la pena el dinero! Él es muy exigente con la comida, pero viendo que ha trabajado su camino a través de ¡fue genial!No estoy seguro de si eran unos personal pero había una camarera agotándose con la comida y la gente era de parar su a preguntar donde estaba su comida. Me dio lástima, de hecho.Así, en general no tengo quejas. Continuaremos para visitar!

Cuando presentó su tarjeta de fidelidad del supermercado Waitrose y comenzó a ofrecer gratis los periódicos con una pequeña tienda y regalar un trago así caliente, el Café se convirtió en muy popular y que era un visitante habitual. Todavía me visita ocasionalmente, pero, como con tantas cosas, la novedad de una ganga desaparezca en el tiempo. Sigo pensando que el café es bueno y la calidad de los pasteles es excelente también. En el pasado, he tenido la comida extraño - normalmente un bocadillo tostado - y nunca he encontrado que cualquier retraso excesivo en mi comida. Hay a menudo un café a esperar para estar preparado. Que es el mundo moderno! El café es hecha mientras espera y no siempre es un trabajo rápido. Sólo tienes que mirar la velocidad el café sale de la máquina cuando usted visita cualquiera de estas tiendas modernas! Waitrose es conocido por ofrecer buena calidad y buen servicio y no puedo decir que he tenido razón para quejarse. Quizás la prueba de nuevo con más detalle en los próximos días.

Every week without fail I do my weekly shopping here and call into they tiny coffee shop for my free cuppa. It's not that expensive as everyone says when compared to Sainsbury's or Tesco's

Fabulous array of pastries, sandwiches and soup and other lunch time delicacies all with superb coffee free with your Waitrose card! So popular can be a bit of a queue but always worth the wait!

Today we popped into the cafe while shopping and had a very nice light lunch of toasted cheese and ham toasties. Plenty of ham and served with a side salad. When we got home our granddaughter realised that she had left her IPod on the table, so having made a phone call 3 hours after leaving the cafe to see if it had been found she was more than happy that it had been handed in. Many thanks to the staff and the customer. A trip back into Hitchin to reclaim it was soon in place. Thanks again.

Quality as you would expect from the brand Waitrose, not cheap but as you are there to shop in Waitrose then it's what you expect. Breakfasts thro Brunch to coffee and delicious cakes you can't go wrong.

I have recently had breakfast at Waitrose in Hitchin and I must say it is super. My husband ordered the 'small' breakfast, but there was nothing 'small' about it - goodness knows what the normal size is like! I opted for sausages in a rustic roll which was beautifully presented and very tasty. Sauces are served in china dishes and the tea comes in a china pot. Very posh and excellent value for money. Will continue to partake in their breakfast and would recommend that others do too.

Ate there recently and although not the cheapest supermarket cafe the quality was exceptionally good

It's just a little cafe in the store, but being Waitrose they do everything extremely well. The food is of excellent quality - well you'd expect that! The staff are polite and friendly. It's hard to resist the cakes.

This is the best supermarket in the world. All the staff (apart from a couple) are very friendly and helpful and always a pleasure to shop here.

Second time in recent months visited on a Saturday only to find things going wrong. Ordered two teas, scrambled eggs for one and sausages in pain rustica for one. Scrambled eggs arrived, but pain rustica was forgotten. When queried (having had the "table number" removed by the lady serving the food she apologised and told us the chefs had phoned in sick today ( just who was cooking our food!?) but assured me that the missing food was not forgotten and then asked for confirmation of white or brown bread - really! A couple of mins later the pain rustica arrived....it was fine, BT really not good enough as the scrambled eggs were mostly eaten by this time so the meal was not as enjoyable as it should have been. Disappointing again.

As a regular shopper and visitor to Waitrose I know this cafe very well. However there really are some things that need attention. Food orders - standard is 20 mins but lately it's taking longer. Chairs are beginning to look old and tired as the paint falls off. But what really upset me last seek was the food I wanted was available on the back counter (cake) but we we told that it could not sold yet...it was visible - in sight. we really could not belive the assistant when she told us this...she actually looked as embarrassed as a Prime Minister trying to sell a Euro deal to a sceptical nation. Two weeks prior the same request was greeted with a smile and food delivered....the actual problem is the service counter is not big enough. Tables are not cleared quickly enough and sometimes you need to sit where plates are not cleared. Waitrose have started to leave a wheelie tray-stand out for customers to clear their own tables...that's been going on for a while. However all this pales into insignificance when you queue for your drinks/food and watch groups enter and sit down with no food and then join the back of the queue....whilst you stand around with drinks on a tray and no table to sit at. And Waitrose think that's acceptable!!
