Costa in North Hertfordshire

The server was quite aggressive to myself and my daughter. I asked the older chap his name on the way out very politely his name as he wasn’t wearing a name badge and he wouldn’t tell me. I assume the manager. I asked the other staff his and their name. They wouldn’t say and hid their name badges. (Alfie) The actual hot chocolate was lovely and the young people who serviced me (including Alfie) were all lovely but the so called manager was intimidating and rude. I will not return.

Great Costa always very helpful staff, and coffee is good

Normal Costa drinks. Staff are a mixed bag , though a lazy bunch. No-one serving when I went in and the tattoed doughnut that eventually served seemed to feel she eas doing me a favour. Guy working there always friendly.

While queuing to place my order I was very saddened to witness the poor gentleman serving at the till who was very polite and helpful being spoken down to in such a rude manner by the manager/supervisor. She was pointing out faults and barking orders for all customers in the queue to hear which is very unprofessional. I am surprised any staff stay there with this woman's attitude. She clearly can not cope in stressful situations and should definitely not be in charge of staff as to me she lacks people skills and has no compassion at all.

Come here weekly when working from the office. Last visit the tall chap called Charlie served me (he is often serving or making the drinks) and he’s always a pleasure to talk to. Always friendly. Always happy. Is a testament to the team in the store. Please pass on my praise to Charlie. Been coming here for the past year or so when I can and he’s always happy to serve customers and help where he can. Thank you costa for a great team in hitchin and a great team member :)

On June 21st 2024 I went to this store with my carer, I needed to sit down and have a cold drink. We were approached by a lady name not known but middle aged. She was extremely impatient and rude from the start off, we told her we wanted to look at the cold drink options on the menu board that kept changing so quick. She was very aggressive and said ill tell you, I asked her why she was being so rude she then said goodbye and turned her back on us. I asked the other young lady for help she walked away. Then an older gentleman came behind the counter I said sir can you help us , he responded your talking he my colleague I said no I'm talking to you. He then became extremely aggressive and rude like the other lady had been. This was a completely un provoked attack from the staff at this store I asked for manager or supervisor and was told we don't have one. After 35 years working in retail and hospitality management I have never experienced servis so disgraceful.

We went into this store today, we were not familiar with the cold drinks and needed to look at the menu board. A lady started to serve us and was rude and abrupt from the set off. We told her we had free drinks today and wa Ted to look at the board. She angrily replied I can tell you it's easier, I asked if she was always so rude she then got very agitated. And asked us to leave we asked other staff members to help but the all took side with their colleague and were equally rude. I asked fir manager or supervisor and was told there wasn't anyone to help. Never had such rude service

Wanted to give a shout out to an older gentleman that took our order this afternoon! Such a great guy! Easygoing, jolly and gay! Great to talk to! People like that make you want to go back just for a friendly atmosphere :)

I visited Costa Coffee in Hitchin (Bancroft), I was going to buy a coffee but needed to use the toilet first as I have a medical condition meaning that I have to sometimes use it urgently. I asked a female member of staff (her name is Danizia) about the door code, she replied 'it's being used so you can't go in'. She was very abrupt. I then asked the manager, Mark, who was more obliging and advised that I would have to wait until it was free, which I did. In the meantime, the female member of staff became verbally aggressive saying that she'd told me this. I replied saying that I think she was quite rude. I attempted to talk to Mark about making a complaint when she followed us, told me to 'go away' and 'get a life' and was extremely rude. She then ushered Mark away by taking his arm and told me to go! I have never been treated like this in a restaurant, café or takeaway before. I've submitted a complaint with Costa on their main website. Needless to say, I will not be visiting again!

Been to Costa Hitchin this morning around 9:30, 13/04/2024 ordered my large coffee for takeaway with oat milk and caramel syrup, old looking lady started making my coffee, while she making my coffee all 3 staff members been talking and laughing and not looking at the order, she did not use oat milk, she did not put caramel syrup in it. On my way to work when I sipped it realised it is not oat milk made coffee, it was normal milk and no taste of caramel at all, I went back to the shop and mentioned the situation and that old looking lady just gone mad and refused to give me the drink plus kept my previous coffee as well, obviously she did not like that she made a mistake. Now I have got really bad tummy ache due to normal milk. there is no refund and there is no coffee, burgled by costa Hitchin this morning, if any Costa management reading this comment can you please arrange at least my refund please, it was £5.20, attaching the receipt in the picture Whole experience was disgusting, made me embarrassed in front of all the customers in the Costa in my own town.

This place is so bad!! Ordered and the delivery window kept moving back and back so I started to look at how to cancel the order.. took me so long that by the time I’d figured it out, nearly two hours after ordering suddenly it got picked up and I was unable to cancel it.. so it arrived cold :(

Shocking experience from an older woman behind the counter who was making the coffee. Bought a latte and received a cup of untextured lukewarm milk. I politely asked if it could be remade to which I got told that there was nothing wrong with it, to speak to her in her own language, and to make it myself if I wasn’t happy (no exaggeration!). The other staff seemed intimidated by her which is a shame because they were great. Seems like this is a consistent trend based on previous comments. Sort it out Costa - extremely damaging for your brand!

Mark was an excellent server enthusiastic and kind, we'll certainly be returning. If you come here and happen to get the great experience of mark I'm sure your day will be much better. Love you Mark x

I always come in for the same coffee, one time the chap in there didn’t hear me saying I wanted none dairy milk but the girl recognised me and asked me, you want soy milk right! yes! It’s me!😇😂 I love her! Such a good service and they are so polite all of them

Decent chap behind the counter was about to look in the allergens book for me when I asked about a particular food item on behalf of my 11-year-old son, but a woman behind the counter with him pulled a face and said they couldn’t guarantee anything was sesame-free before he even had chance to find it in the book. Never got to find out what the allergen book said as her snooty, disinterested attitude put me off staying. Walked out.

Ordered a coffee and a sausage roll and only a cold coffee was delivered, called and was met with the rudest, most sarcastic person ever who was going to get someone to call me but obviously couldn’t be bothered. Will never visit these clowns again!

Had a lovely coffee today in Costa. Mark is very help and friendly asked if we needed any thing else and offered to take the empty cups really nice gentleman five stars *****

The woman behind the counter was very rude and intimidating. The young girl helping her seemed to be very scared of her. The coffee was alright but that woman's behaviour spoiled everything.

Staff automatically deducted free drink from my app. Manager said it was my mistake not there's and there was nothing they could do about it. She was in fact quite rude to me.

Arrived cold. Also the updates are just annoying they give you a delivery time then when that time approaches they change it.. that’s just frustrating and pointless! Disappointed overall

Came in and the guy serving me was great and very efficient, there was a young girl that was making my drink I didn’t catch her name but she had long brown hair in a plait, she made my drink and then got told by an older lady that worked there that it wasn’t right and shouted at the poor girl right in front of all the customers, I felt so bad for her as she made the drink correctly and then got told off for a mistake she didn’t even do. Not sure why this older woman is working in a customer facing environment, not a good look for Costa.

Huge respect to the staff here that put in a lot of physical effort to make coffee all day, always cleaning up after people, only to deal with karens like the ones below on a daily basis that go on a power trip and make a scene over assumptions just because they are not happy with themselves.

Always a good place for meeting friends for a chat. Good selection of food.

Rude!! I came here for lunch on Friday. I wanted to use the Vodafone offer of a free drink but unfortunately the code didn’t work despite showing that I had plenty of time left. For this I was shouted at by the server and told that I had already used the code. I felt so embarrassed I just left and went elsewhere. No attempt was made to try again or look at the code, just rude horrible behaviour! Costa really need to do something about this as I see from other reviews this is not the first time customers have been treated badly.

Everything I have come to expect from Costa. Friendly, helpful staff, good range of drinks.

The manager of this Costa is a disgrace - she has zero customer service skills and myself and my family were subjected to her abuse this morning for daring to ask for something on the menu!!! This is not the first time I have witnessed her bad behaviour and I have complained to Costa Uk before about her. She should NOT be “managing” anyone or any shop - she is miserable at all times, speaks to staff and customers with contempt and treats her staff in a dictator style. I will not be visiting this shop again and I will urge all my friends and family to boycott this shop.

Fantastic little coffee shop in Hitchin, the large coffee is so big, the cup has two handles. Good strong flavours too.

What you would expect from a Costa

Too she’s to find a driver notified when found but just left wandering when a driver would be allocated. Drinks recieved were unknown cappachino was good the other thing has no description of what sort of size it was or anything turned up and was tiny bit what I was expecting at all should specify and does not, not happy at all about it

Cosy, warm atmosphere and lovely coffee!

Lousy service. The customer asks what syrups are available for coffees, and the staff member tuts and asks the customer if they need to know all of them, before rushing the list off in an inaudible fashion. There is such a thing as service with a smile, and helping the customer make the purchase. Good service is no accident.

Whenever i go to Hitchin and if not to busy I like to pop into Costa for a flat white and sometimes a pastry. They still make best flat white I asked for extra hot and frothy it was. Even when very busy staff have always been polite I cannot fault the customer service so thank you guys see you very soon👍🙂

Nice coffee, however sometimes even if it’s not busy tables are not cleaned for new guests.

We popped in for a cup of tea while in Hitchin. The place was busy and staff were doing there best.

Disappointing service, barista was very moody and reluctant when taking my order. I asked for one hot chocolate and she charged me for two, ended up paying double.

Cappuccino is really good. 4 sizes are there and S size itself is reasonably large.

When in there a few times had my head taken off from an Italian employee! Talk to the manager who said she couldn't do anything about it which is unacceptable. Plus my parents went for a drink and was asked to leave, cause there was one seat! Better Costas in Hertfordshire, Stevenage Roaring meg, Biggleswade and old town Stevenage. If you love Costa then please don't go inside it's not worth the trouble

Asked for a skinny frostino with no cream. When arrived had cream on it so I said sorry I asked for no cream. The girl looked at me and then just scraped the cream off the top of cream off. Terrible customer service.

My daughter and I often visit Costa Coffee in Hitchin, but sadly will not be returning after our disappointing experience by the store manager this morning. The other staff were were very pleasant and my order of two lattes was dealt with in an efficient manner. However, after I paid I was asked back to the counter as there was an issue with the till showing that payment had not gone through. I happily waited a few minutes while this was being rectified, then noticed on my bank app on my phone that my payment had been made. The manager was aggitated and rudely told me to wait until she had checked the till and that I had to claim money back from my bank and to wait for the till to be ready to pay again. She had a accusing manner and insisted I wait, dismissing with a wave of her hand when I politely tried to show her the payment confirmation on my phone. The coffees where now getting cold so I left them in the shop, having annoyingly paid £5.60 - she dismissed me and my daughter with another wave of her hand when I asked to speak to the manager and shouted back that she held that role. I bought another two lattes at another coffee shop in Hitchin, who's staff were and always have been, very friendly.

A lot of the coffee shops around Hitchin are dog friendly and I’m surprised Costa isn’t! The mobile ordering app was not working and when I took the dog in I was told rudely dogs are not allowed and refused to serve me! At these times Costa needs to be open minded about the way they serve their customers.

This is a small Costa near the bus stops in Hitchin. It can often be very busy and it is not helped by the small counter and working area the staff have to serve coffee and prepare orders. Generally good coffee, relaxed atmosphere and all the usual cakes, toasties etc at typically high prices. I thought the toilets here were surprisingly well kept, as quite often Costa toilets leave a lot to be desired! Generally good and was served fairly quickly but maybe we were just lucky.

Costa is situated in the main street, opposite M & S Food, with a public car park about 100 metres away.

Coffee and cakes always nice and fresh but service is very slow and often tables are not cleared for ages general cleanliness of cafe is very average

Went with a friend for coffee and rolls. The chap and his wife were before me who gave their order and the guy asked me for my order and then charged the chap in front for my order too. It took sometime to sort out as the guy serving us was so confused. This should never have happened in the first place. What happened to training. Tables clearing but no cleaning done on the tables. Will not be returning

Costa's in Hitchin is always very busy, the staff are rushed off their feet but remain friendly & cheerful. The coffee is very good & if not happy they will replace it for you. It's friendly & relaxed if you don't mind how busy it is!

I had a horrible experience here yesterday after going in to get a takeaway coffee. I approached the till area which was empty, with a male member of staff behind the counter doing nothing (so I assumed free to serve me). A couple of people then arrived beside me and were asking about items which either had or didn't have certain ingredients. He proceeded to serve these people without ever acknowledging me. I don't know where these people had arrived from but I reasoned that maybe, prior to my arrival, they'd spoken to the staff member and then gone back to the very end of the counter to look for food, so perhaps that's why he served them first. However, there had definitely been no one ready and waiting to be served that I was aware of (and he hadn't been preparing any coffee) as I arrived at the till. If this was the case, I feel he could have said something to me like, 'I'll just serve these people and be with you in a moment'..something at least to indicate to me that they'd been first in the queue (even though they really didn't appear to have been). However, this isn't really the issue that upset me. It took some time for the couple beside me to have their order completed and a female member of staff then appeared and asked, 'Is anyone waiting for a drink?'. Because this sounded as if she was asking if anyone was waiting for an order that they'd already placed, I said, 'I am, but I haven't been served yet'. This wasn't said as a complaint; it was just so that she would know that I hadn't yet placed an order. She then really abruptly and rudely said to me, 'The queue is that way' and pointed to where another man had now joined the couple behind me. I was so taken aback and embarrassed that I barely knew what to say. I said, 'I know..' and was going to add, '..how to queue' but I was already mortified enough without drawing attention to myself. I SHOULD have said, 'Actually, I was here first', but at the time I didn't want to offend the people behind me. What I did do was simply say, 'It doesn't matter' and leave. I then went to Starbucks. Luckily there is a choice of coffee shops in Hitchin because i won't be back to this one. It's a shame, as my young daughter and i have enjoyed visiting together in the past, but I would never now go back as I wouldn't want to risk encountering either of these members of staff. This staff member just assumed I'd jumped the queue without even giving me the benefit of the doubt or asking me what had happened, when in fact the truth was that her colleague had entirely ignored me.

I have been here many times with my friends. Always a go to option for a drink and something to eat. Very nice interior and good service. Normally quite busy.

Este solía ser un lugar muy concurrido, lleno de clientes y muy eficiente personal que conocía clientes y eran amables y acogedores. Ha pasado el tiempo y sólo un par de originales personal permanecen. No es tan concurrido y el cambio en el personal se refleja en el servicio. Los sándwiches tostados son inconsistente y chocolate todo espuma, muy poco bebida de chocolate.

Que visite esta rama con un par de amigos con regularidad. Vamos a enganchar más Miércoles y encontrar este es un hotel muy agradable, lugar limpio para tomar un café. El personal es siempre el más servicial, amable que montón podría cumplir. He visitado otra sucursal de la zona, pero este sale en la parte superior por millas.

Had a coffee or two whilst catching up with a couple of mates. Like a normal Costa but with a nicer atmosphere, dont know why it just does.

In the high Street. Can get very busy and may have to wait a while. Nice Coffee and good range of snacks. Great for a pit stop.

I visit this Costa whenever I get the chance, I love the coffee to drink in or takeaway. The staff here are fantastic. Fast, friendly and efficient which they need to be as it can very busy. The food isn't too bad for a coffee shop chain and they do a great children's hot chocolate. The premises are clean and well presented.

The refit is ok, but it's still dark, the coffee isn't amazing. Ruth, the manager is lovely though. Much better coffee elsewhere in H town...

At Costa, you can rely on great coffee, a good selection of food and some yummy cakes. Costa in Hitchin is busy... mainly because it has friendly staff and enough people serving to ensure the queue moves reasonably quickly. I like the soft chairs and the general, buzzy atmosphere. They are very happy to serve a latte in a cup, rather than a glass... I'm sure it tastes better - and is certainly less likely to get spilled!

The best coffee in the area, nice staff, always consistent coffee, cakes and snacks. Take away coffee too! Good sandwiches, hot toasties, good biscuits, nice cakes.

Efficient staff and good range of snacks and refreshments. Similar to other Costa cafes insofar that the clientele appear to enjoy the experience. We did too. The lemon tart and coffees were very good. The young ladies serving us were great.
