Food was cold onion rings was half cooked and burger was falling apart with all the sauce on 1 side worst order ive ever got from here

We visited in May and had an awful experience so thought maybe we wouldn't go back, but decided that all the other times we'd been were fine so give it another go. So glad we did, we had a lovely evening. The food was excellent, I recommend the Signature Burger. It was fully staffed so everything ran really smoothly, the staff were absolutely top of their game, we were not rushed at all unlike at some other establishments, everything was calm and relaxed. They have a wide selection of drinks and non alcoholic beers and ciders so something to suit all. Very cosy on an Autumn evening. We look forward to our next visit!

As previous customers, we were sent a buy one get one free voucher and decided to treat ourselves. Unfortunately this was an experience that was extremely poor for me, and although my partners meal was okay he was left eating on his own due to the 2 issues, both the poor cooking and the quality of my meal. I had ordered a steak, well done. This is something I rarely do, and the George cook is the reason why. My steak arrived with patches of raw, red blood on top. Although it was not necessary, one cut was sufficient to confirm it was pink and leaking blood inside too. This turned my stomach and, with our waitress not in view, the plate went straight back to the bar where the barman confirmed the red blood was clearly visible on the steak. Visible red blood on the outside of a steak is a clear sign of poor cooking and personally repulsive to me. The same steak was returned cooked well done and I did try to eat it but it was tough as old boots and 20-25% on inspection turned out to be a large triangle of gristle. All in all, this meant that my meal was a half of a steak and two small jacket potatoes. I showed the gristle to the barman, who, in all fairness, did take the cost of the steak off the bill however, as we would have used the buy one get one free voucher and not paid for it anyway it really didn't make me feel any happier. I would say the front of house staff were fairly pleasant but the quality of this steak in the first place, and the poor cooking of it in the second place were very far from satisfactory. I can only suggest you check each steak very carefully before trying to eat it, or, as my partner did, go for the sausages.

the order was over an hour and half late, i could have walked in the time it took to deliver the other, it is also stone cold and the delivery driver was extremely rude when i went out to collect the food

Always lovely food and amazing staff I take my lady with dementia and they are so accommodating always. Would highly recommend we have had lunch and dinner.

The food was amazing, the service and staff were absolutely fantastic. Very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We had a gorgeous meal the food was all freshly cooked and very tasty. Served quickly and all food out together for the 4 of us. It was also nice being taken to our table and orders from table too and for drinks better than going to the bar and orderinv as it used to be. 100% perfect

Order did not arrive at all, ordered at 7:20pm and called restaurant twice who said the order was on the way, only for it to never arrive.

Went in for my wife birthday party , the staff was very accommodating and cheerful. Nothing was to much for them. The food was excellent and fast and the singing at the end was the cherry on the cake ! Thanks guys for the wonderful time

Very good food, friendly staff, but atmosphere was a bit lacking, think it was down to the layout of the pub it was like a big open corridor, but that aside I would recommend this place for a nice meal at a good price 😀

Friendly staff and nice food. Lovely patio area outside to sit and either drink and/or eat. A chance pull in which was worth the stop!

Disaster really. Not greeted, had to ask and find my own table, £20 for a mixed grill that was at best £10 worth, ask for steak rare, came up medium to well, nobody asked me how my meal was, looked understaffed, barman rushed off his feet, left without so much as a goodbye, thank you or clear off. Very poor and won’t bother again.

Great food, great atmosphere Odd service, manager was lovely though priced up for a pint when I had a half, waiter ordered 'normal bread' when I had specifically said gluten free but manager caught it, then I was asked if I wanted a coffee and waiter went off to get a menu but came back with a black coffee which I wouldn't have ordered However food and atmosphere was amazing and the manager was great

Took ages to get served. Staff ignored me despite asking "is anyone available to serve", I was then asked if I wanted to pay a tip. That's a big no from me

Came with my mum for a light lunch and the staff were exceptionally friendly, professional and attentive. Thank you Donna, Joe and Caitlin for sitting and serving us with a smile and check backs too. The food was fresh and delicious.

Pleasant atmosphere during a very busy lunch time service. Keira our waitress was very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable when advising on ingredients. The food was delicious and an ample serving.

OK for an everyday meal, wouldn't go for a romantic dinner. It's a traditional pub selling traditional food.

I'll start with the positives - They squeezed us in for Sunday Lunch when we did not have a reservation. They were well-staffed. They had a lot of options for veggies and vegans. Now on to the rest. I've never have such a grim plate of food that was not a mistake. I had the mushroom wellington which came with seasonal veg, roast potatoes and stuffing. The wellington had no flavour other than pearl onions. I would have been more accurate to call it a pearl onion pie, the stuffing was a tiny block of dried-out leather, and the veg was a pile of soft, boiled stuff that could not be distinguished from each other other than the occasional bald kale stalk that caught in your teeth, Finally the roast potatoes... Tasting these made me pine for some kind of Aunt Bessie's frozen roast potato. They had clearly been peeled and cut and left out to go brown and dry out then thrown in the oven with no fat or seasoning at all -though, dry, flavourless. I watched my brother, who had the beef I think, try to subtly deal with a skin on his gravy thick enough to make a jacket out of. The staff were nice but I really would shift their customer service training a tiny bit as about three times a clearly emotional conversation was interrupted for unimportant queries and not briefly. Lastly, a lemon cordial with water not soda and no ice was 3.30 on our bill. We are all used to wild beer and wine prices but I feel like there is an unspoken rule of cool in pubs across the country that the one option for people who are struggling financially is cordial. In conclusion, thank you for accommodating us but my word I won't come again.

The delivery driver very rudely told me my next order would be cancelled if I don't order more food next time. He didn't elaborate on how much I had to spend and made me feel bad for doing nothing wrong.

Food was good apart from the chips which weren't fully cooked through.

Food here is out of this world I have been 4 times now and tried 4 different dishes and each one has ended too quickly The service is great and although busy the seating and service is excellent

I was served by the lovely Donna, she always makes us feel so welcomed. The food is fantastic, we had fish coujons and the barbers smothered chicken both dishes were delicious. Great atmosphere can’t fault anything.

ordered at 5:20 was still waiting at 6.30pm. requested an update on just eat and the food was on its way. Still waiting at 7:10pm and requested some money back for the late order. the restaurant refused and said they'd give me something free. I called the restaurant and was spoke to really rudely saying my address is far away (it's 25 mins max) food arrived after 2 hours stone cold and no free item

Poor service! After 1 hour waiting found out the waiter hadn't put our order through to the kitchen and had lost it so had to reorder! Desserts also took over 30 minutes after ordering. Roast beef was inedible tough and stringy and losts of gristle. Veg very underdone for my liking. Roasts were poor but children's meals were good and burgers looked nice. Very disappointing lunch, especially as we had brought family with us, and will not be returning for food again. Nice garden to enjoy a drink in summer though.

Great atmosphere and very friendly staff!! We were attended by Rhys who offered expectational service whilst we were there as we were met with phenomenal food and great drinks! Would highly recommend!!

Quick lunch in here today. Service was very good. Food was pretty good too. Much fish was definitely good quality and had a nice batter. Not too heavy. Chips were large and fluffy on the inside. Mushy peas were .. mushy! The burger was good, the slab of meat on the inside was substantial and I’m almost surprised they didn’t ask how to cook it. Hearty good food. The outside area looks great for summer drinks. Would go again

We went to celebrate my birthday. The atmosphere was pleasant and the place was not crowded. Good outside seating area in the sunshine with an outside bar. The food was plentiful and served quickly.

The garlic mushroom starter was two mouthfuls. Tasty but minute. Expected a bit more. Nice meal though and staff very friendly.

Our family dinner was great. Prompt and friendly service by keira, food was quick and hot. Only disappointing thing was the dessert, not quite value for money in my eyes.

Food was tasty, timely, and service was good. The menu has a few issues, a sharing starter for two which includes ONE sourdough shard (small triangle of sour dough toasted to crouton consistency) and ONE slice of grilled courgette isn’t really shareable. But it’s a niggle.

We frequent the George IV on a regular basis. The choice of food is very good and the staff are always pleasant and helpful. On this occasion we were served by Caitlin, excellent service from her, all our requests were dealt with quickly and efficently and as usual our Sunday roasts were cooked to perfection. And to top it off, the draught Abbott, my personal favourite Real Ale, was available and it was an excellent pint or three!

Visited on the off chance and glad we did. The food ,service and atmosphere were all first rate.

Omg! I lunch a good 2-3 times a week! Never have I had absolutely everything just about damn right on perfect!! The welcome the seating the spot on timing of the waitress, the food, atmosphere and price! Myself and my friend were off to the Harvester in Stevenage but it had closed down so it was just fate that bought us here! After having had a pretty rough meal elsewhere the week before where I asked about the mash and was told it was “pellets” that they add kettle water too it so I was apprehensive to have the mash here but holy moly I think they grow their own spuds here, and I had a cabbage thing with my pork belly that was simply divine and clearly local produce as so fresh. I didn’t want the carrots 🥕 so no problem and I had a cucumber and rocket salad. So a bit off-menu but not an eyebrow raised.This is a Green King establishment so was expecting nice and normal but blimey oh Riley it was FIRST CLASS GRUB with FIRST CLASS SERVICE! Super impressed . Flipping well done to the whole team that work there. I’ve got another lunch date Tuesday and by god I’ll be requesting we go here! I don’t write many reviews for stuff but this has to be written! Happy dinning anyone who’s reading as you are in for a treat 👍😊

Cold chips,orderd sauce never come so called the store they sent more hot chips absolutely covered in to much salt so couldn’t eat them and another sauce we managed to eat cold chicken by the time sauce came with the sauce not worth a penny

Food was cold and had gone stale. Chips had sweat then gone cold with no seasoning on them. I’ve always loved chicken George but doubt I’d ordered from the city centre one again.

Waited ages for initial drinks order to be taken, then a very long wait for food. Not many staff about and no pleasantries from them when around. One of our group had a problem with their dessert. Which was taken away and returned after the rest of us had finished ours. No apologies at all from staff, made to feel we were in the wrong. Definitely will not be returning here anytime soon. If there is going to be a long wait for food/drinks think customers should be warned up front.

Absolutely amazing experience with my family. Food was top notch. Drinks delivered to us in bar area so quickly (usually have to go up in bar area - restaurant was packed and service never slipped) Kiera was an absolute angel!

Food was okay, bacon on pancakes was burnt (thick char well over crispy) service was very slow even though there was less than 5 tables. Sunday breakfast time. It took a long time for them to come and take our order and couldn't see the waitress to get her attention. We visited a few years back and had exactly the same experience so hadn't been back for a while. I don't think this place is for me.

Service has quick, shame my food wasn't what I ordered and charged me for what I did not receive, amazing even though I told them.

Late, cold and - frankly - pretty unpleasant. Do NOT order from here at the weekend. Uck!

so my order was being ‘delivered’ for around half an hour . Also I got 0 knock on the door or anything to notify me that the driver was here. The food was just left outside on the floor thankfully I saw it when looking at my ring door bell! decent food though just find it bizarre that they’d just leave my food on the floor

Often visit this place but as our last visit was handled so professionally I had to leave a review! Our waitress Keira made the entire experience amazing. All orders were correct and she ensured we were looked after. As a large party, we were so pleased to have such great service. Amber behind the bar was so attentive and made sure we were all happy! Highly recommended place for food, drink or both!

Food was fine for the price, standard Greene King offering. But the staff were slow and disinterested and the kitchen couldn't cope with the demands of a half-busy lunchtime shift. A shame, because our previous visit was fantastic, but I can only assume there has been staff turnover. The two lads behind the bar today did not want to be there, struggled to take orders accurately, and then spent their shifts on their phones rather than attending to tables.

A pub that has so much potential but regularly disappoints. Has a nice beer garden but wouldn't eat there again.

Over priced! Boring atmosphere! Terrible food and service.

Had a Chef & Brewer voucher so booked for dinner for two. Arrived early but table free so ordered drinks. Very prompt service. Food came quickly. Had steak pie & the chicken/bacon in bbq sauce. Food very nice and hot and plentiful. So full we couldn't manage pud. Would visit again. Staff attentive so a very enjoyable visit.

Everything was top notch even tho a Friday evening and we hadn't booked...food service atmosphere all brilliant..definitely be back..

Once got there, service was shocking, We went for mixture of bar menu food whlich they said was 4 little helpings Anything 3-99 bit told 4 of each. When food came mimi sausages roll for one, Little pie for one and then 4 balls of whatever it was.. Sent food back, will not return again

Very disappointed with our visit to this lovely looking pub/restaurant on 23/3/24 at 7.30pm. My brother recommended this establishment, two couples arriving for a meal on a Saturday night, we arrived promptly at this establishment,to be guided to our table we were served a drink quite promptly, when we perused the menu for a few minutes, then the waiter came back to take order , only for him to inform us a very limited menu, no steaks or mixed grills available. I then ordered the pie and veg meal and mash, the pie was quite palatable, but the mash was cold ,the broccoli was undercooked and quite hard.After serving all our meals there was no check back to check on meals, where I could have highlighted my complaints. On completion of our meal there was an enquiry from the serving staff if we enjoyed the meal, I did inform the young lady of my dissatisfaction of the vegetables , where she did knock off two drinks off the bill. Shall not be returning any time soon, because of the poor quality of service we received,
