The Wilbury Stonehouse Pizza & Carvery in North Hertfordshire

After a year you would have thought that they would learn how to sort out the food but no. Had turkey and beef, not even a full slice of each, the beef was fatty stringy and very thinly cut you couldn't even cut it with a knife, it just ripped apart turkey was just bits that was cut . Stuffing was hard,roast potatoes very over cooked, now I like a crispy roast potatoe but they were too much, the peas some were hard and some were soft . Been a long time since I was last here and will be even longer before I return

So we visited The Wilbury in Letchworth today for the first time in a few months. We were greeted at the door by the new owners Wendy and Dave who were probably THE most accommodating and friendly people we have ever met. Wendy went above and beyond with engaging and helping to calm down my extremely feral children supplying them with goodie bags full of toys and colouring books and stickers etc to keep them entertained x Just by far the most lovely lady - whilst we were getting the children’s food my youngest knocked over an entire drink - we only found out after my daughter told due to Dave being so quick to clean it all up. Every member of staff was smiling, accommodating and just lovely it was by far the most relaxed dining experience we’ve had with our kids - what would have normally been an ‘eat and rush job’ of about 30 minutes ended in us staying for well over an hour, the kids begging to go back and me and my husband actually enjoying a meal out for the first time in years x Thankyou so much Wendy and Dave for making us feel so relaxed and Wendy for being the kindest of people the way you went out of your way for us really was appreciated so very much x Probably worth mentioning that the food was absolutely spot on the best carvery I think we’ve ever had and never have my youngest two ate so much! the husband said the Guinness was better poured than any pub his ever been to - a compliment in itself I can tell you x Honestly just so happy we visited and will definitely be back next week with the rest of my crew x Thankyou all so much 💗

We had a lovely family meal here today to celebrate a birthday. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. They were more than happy for us to bring our own cake, and they bought it out with candles on. The food was delicious as usual. Will definitely be coming back.

Came here to the pub section for a drink with a friend. Lovely atmosphere, quite busy. Regular customers have great working relationship with staff, knowing them by name. Staff very friendly and helpful. Has a restaurant with lots of options. Would come again.

I’ve been to this pub a few times but the most recent was brilliant. I had forgotten how stunning the food is and the staff are very kind. The manager must be stressed from all the customers as this place is always packed and I’m not surprised, the food is wonderful, I had the carvery and a martini, both were absolutely gorgeous and I couldn’t resist purchasing two more drinks. I cannot recommend this place more 🤩 Excellent service from majority of employees, food quality outstanding and friendly atmosphere. Amazing, definitely going again!!!

Taylor is brilliant. Always really helpful and friendly. Ryan the head chef does a perfect job preparing our pizzas. We always enjoy coming here. Love the new menu items

Wendy and the team are amazing! The food is really filling and tasty. We were met by Wendy who is just wonderful, chatty and helpful and served by Dave who won't stop until his guests have the best experience, which is just so refreshing! Will definitely be back again soon x

Not been for a while as the last experience was bad enough. But thought we would give it a second go. Ordered the carvery to which all I can say was it was edible. Food was either under cooked or burnt not really anything in the middle. Then ordered 2 kids meals which took 45 minutes to come out now bearing in mind you would understand this time frame if it was busy but it genuinely wasn't. When we questioned where the meals were conveniently they were brought straight out. Can't say I'll be going back.

Fantastic breakfast today here at the Wilbury!! Bacon was tasty, sausages were lush and the Black pudding was delicious. Manager, Dave (newly appointed) could not be more helpful, making sure we were all looked after and had everything we needed xxx Definitely recommened to family & friends x

Wow, what a difference a year can make. 1st time in a year stepping foot into the Wilbury after bad experiences, food, and staff. We were met by Wendy, who is so lovely & kind when taking our orders. We were then greeted by the wonderful Dave, who was helpful, polite and friendly. The breakfast was super yummy and filling. 💯 will be back for a roast and letting everyone know how lovely it is again. 10 🌟 from us

Dave was very helpful. Went above and beyond to help even though we were close to the finish time he made sure we had everything we needed before packing away ready for the change in menu for lunch. Will be back.

I went here for my birthday lunch with my parents and found the place very quiet and just no life in there. No music no TV like you'd find in a pub. When ordering I found the server very offish and not actually having a service I'd want. The floor was sticky and not nice. Food was great and not expensive

Yes we did turn up late in the day for the breakfast. But the food was not ready. No communication on how long we would have to wait. And very quickly moved the tea and coffe

Good parking near the door for disabled people:) Dwn side :-Tables could do with another white as were sticky:( No soup /soft food options for me as just had teeth 🦷 out!

Love our roast in here, the potatoes were particularly lovely on out last visit as they were really crispy, just as we love them.

I had a Full English Breakfast when I was on vacation in the UK. This place is very nice & the staff is very friendly. The food was so delicious.I recommend everyone to visit this place.

Absolutely amazing food! I ordered some lunch from Uber eats. Unfortunately, the app wouldn’t let me make any changes. However, I called and spoke to an absolutely lovely staff member. Resolved my issue straight away. As you can see from the image, it was delicious and very large portion sizes. Would 100% recommend. (Better than Toby carvery by a mile)

Really good quality breakfast with lots of variety. All freshly prepared. Everything you could possibly want.

Eat here frequently and never have a problem with the carvery, although ordering off the menu has been a let down a few times. Long waits and orders wrong. But for Carvery you can't go wrong. Update ... I visited again today ... Boxing Day ... And the service was very good for both the carvery and the meals off the menu. It was busy but it was not a long wait. Update: service has improved immensely since my previous review.

Last Sunday i had the pleasure of being served by Estelle. She was extremely friendly and helpful when dealing with my allergies and i couldn’t praise her more.

Visited on Thursday and got a burger which was absolutely lovely. My server was a young lady called beatrice who was extremely friendly and helpful. She had great customer service skills and was just a delight to be around, really made my trip, she deserves recognition!!!

Barry is always great, he’s very friendly. it’s a good breakfast & very affordable! The staff are all very friendly and helpful. We come her everyday. There it’s loads of parking and it’s always very clean.🧽

The Wilburn is a lovely place to go for a carvery breakfast and other meals that they do fish and chips is better than fish and chip shop really enjoyed our experience there very friendly nice people the manager that see to us was Tyler lovely fella and the young lady that looked after us name was lia lovely young lady

Dog friendly! Great food, the self serve breakfast was very reasonably priced and the food was still good quality. Taylor who served us was very friendly and accommodating will definitely come again.

Had a lovely time at the wilbury, all the staff were friendly and helpful. Came at a quiet time, but the carvery was still hot and fresh, beef was lovely.

Met a bloke called Gary King in here and had a nice pint. Gary told me the pub had been taken over by robots and that we were at the “world’s end”,to which shortly after the whole town spontaneously combusted and we escaped in a early 2000’s ford by the skin of our teeth. Odd night but fun nonetheless.Five stars

Although it was stated it was open on Google. Turned up and doors closed with no door handles to get in. Empty glasses and cans outside. Looks very run down

Shambles of a business. Had an awful experience in person a couple of years ago, just tried them again for a delivery and it’s worse. Almost two hours, items missing, food cold. Driver said it’s like this every day. Avoid at all costs. Expensive and crap.

The wilbury is missing a trick the food carvery could be so much better than it is it needs to be fresh especially the roast potatoes as they have cooked and left all day the veg is ok but either over cooked or undercooked it’s edible but needs work

Very nice place, nice people and nice food. I highly recommend going there.

I had the all you can eat breakfast. It was mostly very tasty but the black pudding was hard and dried out. The utensils for serving become very hot under the heat lamps so be careful. Service was great and came with a smile.

Went for Mother’s Day and I was surprised at how well the staff kept everything in order. Food was delicious and didn’t have to wait too long for it to arrive. Staff were so nice and would definitely recommend.

Home made food not from the freezer Ordered the large roast and paid extra and also for pig I blankets they where burnt and not much bigger than a traditional sized all the sides( vegetable) where pretty much all gone roast potatoes where not roasted and where soggy not happy at all will not be visiting again

Very welcoming and friendly. Had a family reunion there for a carvery meal. The staff could not do enough to accommodate us and everyone so so very kind and attentive. Robert and Beatrice deserve a crown for patience for putting up with the multiple languages and changing of mind on the puddings 😀. Excellent service indeed and thank you to Lasantha the Carver for managing the place so well.

Ordered on line through Uber eats. Received on time efficient delivery. Ordered the works carvery with 3 meats, however no beef( despite it being on delivery note). Also only 3 pigs in blankets instead of the 5 on menu. What was received very tasty

My family and I (16) of us had a lovely evening here. The food was lovely, they were very accommodating to our family. I messed up ordering for one of the members and they fixed it without issues. Paul and his team (I’m Sorry I’m blanking the names as it’s 9:30) they were very prompt in service. The food and dessert was amazing. No one left hungry or diasspointed and the prices are great as well!

Carvery was one of the worst I've had. Can't really go wrong with a carvery usually, but the vegetables had to be changed as were dry and had obviously been sitting there for a long time. The turkey was dry, when I asked for the top slice to be removed before I had it as it had been sat for at least 30 minutes I was met with an attitude of how I would be surprised that it had only been 10 minutes. We'd arrived 35 minutes earlier and saw noone had been to the carvery for 30 minutes. We waited initially for the fresh vegetables to come out. Another in our party had the gammon, who also commented how dry it was. The rest opted for beef and they all said it was nice and moist. We also ordered a Pizza which we ended up going to get ourselves after it had sat on the side for 5 minutes without a server picking it up to bring to us. While it's a relatively cheap carvery, and they say you get what you pay for, we wouldn't return in a hurry.

Food is pretty good but every time we order, there is something missing. This time, there was no dip with the halloumi fries and we were sent bland chips with the burger even though it is advertised as coming with wedges. We've ordered 5 times and only once has it arrived as expected.

Had the carvery veggie option. Everything piping hot and very nice with great friendly service. Would certainly recommend

Oh man just got back from the Wilbury. The worst carvery ever. The yorkshires nearly broke my teeth. The veg was grey. It had flies landing on the roasting joints. Honestly I could go on. We actually had to laugh. I mean it’s cheap as chips but we felt ripped off.

Came for a pizza and a beer. Staff were very kind and welcoming. When I spoke to the chef he was happy to assist me with my questions. Food came out quickly and was hot. Overall great experience would definitely recommend

We have been to the Wilbury many times before this visit and have always had a good experience so didn’t hesitate to return. Sadly this was not our experience on this occasion It was not busy at the time we visited, the staff were very pleasant and polite and working very hard. The tables felt sticky/ dirty and it wasn’t just the one we sat at as we went round feeling different ones, The cutlery could’ve been cleaner The Carvery looked very sorry for itself - the meats looked passable, the vegetables on offer were very limited but we had to request the roast potatoes were replaced (I wouldn’t have given them to my dog,)but despite this it tasted alright. The puddings on the other hand……… We ordered sticky toffee puddings and sundaes - we waited ages! When they came the sticky toffees were as dry as eating sand and cold The sundaes were a very poor excuse for sundaes, a tiny piece of shortbread and half a strawberry! Sadly we will be thinking twice before returning

We ordered the bottomless brunch here and the variety of cocktails included into the upgraded package was very impressive and we loved all of them! The service was quick and attentive and the pizzas (bottomless) were fantastic. We'll be coming back for sure as the value is close to theft!

Awful experience not to be repeated

Food prep was incredibly slow. App told us no food or drink was available. No carvery at all at 6:30 in the evening. We were told we should aim to get there around 3-4, ideally midday… on a weekday!!! Chicken dippers took 30 minutes to be prepared and arrived burnt. Ice cream machine needed filling up and we had to wait 10 minutes. Virtually no ice cream toppings left. There’s a peeling paint patch on the ceiling with a bucket catching water under it! There really wasn’t anything to recommend.

My granddaughter and partner were having a conversation about how the place had changed. The extremely rude manager was listening in to their conversation and asked them "why did you come here then" not the sort of customer service we are used to so will not be returning.

If I was paying more money I wouldn’t be impressed. But it’s one of those places you don’t mind if it’s not perfect because it’s not a rip off. However, they are quite disorganised and always seem to have a terrible problem with staff and long queues for the carvery that take 30 mins. But again, cheap! ***update: this place is getting worse everytime I go. I don’t think I’ll return. Charging for a carvery when there’s no food left. Charging £4.20 for a soda water? Why? Its also become very hostile and scary ***

I visited one evening with my teenage children mainly because one of my children is ASD and has a very limited diet, so we needed a carvery for his needs which he enjoyed. My elder son, though, has a mild nut allergy though and this caused lots of problems for the staff. He chose regular items off the main menu, but his food (both main and ice-cream dessert) came out about 25 mins after our food was brought out each time. This would also be after repeated messages to the members of staff who were not that visible on the floor and were chatting in a corner of the restaurant. It would have been better to have all our meals served at the same time, even if we had to wait as I do understand there are extra cleaning protocols. In the circumstances, we had all finished our courses before my son's even arrived. We were all quite disappointed as previous visits had been better.

Ordered breakfast for delivery, was absolutely disgusting. The eggs were SO rubbery, burnt sausages, stale bread and a nice little hair in there too! Was so grim the dog even turnt his nose up ! Maybe would be better if I had eaten in but completely wasted my money, yuck !!

Edit.. I revisited the wilbury on Monday and the service was shocking. Fish was overcooked, and the food arrived at different times. We then had to chase them for the drinks we had ordered that hadn't arrived. It is also customary to receive a spoon with your desert when it is required instead of having to ask for one to be told 'oh I always forget about that!'. Maybe the staff need more training in hospitality as it was very much lacking on this visit. I can't fault the food, it was lovely. However, the toilets are tiny and if you are a larger person they are not easy to get in and out of. They also need more regular checks as half of them had either not been flushed or hasn't flushed properly.

the staff today was amazing as there was glass over the table and did cut myself due to this but the lady there today cleaned it up strait away. the staff was very welcoming.

Probably the worst carvery we’ve had !! Veg station poor , roast potatoes poor more like roast baked potatoes, For gluten free really bad options on the veg station and gravy had to be made special and came in a very small jug. Thought the meat portions were small and Turkey was dry as it must have been under the heat lamps too long but gammon and beef was really tasty If you think Stonehouse is like Toby Carvery it’s not ! don’t expect the same quality as from our experience it won’t happen

It was rundown from the outside and chaotic & dirty inside. It wasn’t busy but the staff didn’t seem to know what they were doing. Tables left full of dirty plates & cutlery. No clean cutlery. Item not served from order.

We didn't have high expectations for our Sunday family lunch after reading some reviews but we were wrong everything was delicious fresh veg lovely meat good choice and very polite helpful staff. We all had carvery but the pizzas that were being delivered to adjacent tables looked very nice. We would definitely book to go for a Sunday roast again. Breakfast also has been really good on the occasions we have been . We'll done to all the staff at The Wilbury 2nd visit tonight absolutely atrocious disgusting food bad service food cooked too long in dirty oil glass that cut my granddaughter complained about food got pizza instead with no cheese on it just as bad as the 1st meal veggies on carvery looked like they had stood there for hrs the mash had big black lumps in all of it sat on a hot plate from lunch time. Don't eat here go elsewhere

From the welcome to the food, First Class. I have had lots of carverys from different venues but this was Great!! Far better than any others, even down to the nice touch of polished cutlery not water marked. Thanks to all, I only wished you were local to me.

The Carvery at The Wilbury I recently visited The Carvery at Wilbury, and unfortunately, it left much to be desired. Let me break it down: Salty Carvery: The meats or the vegetables were overly salty, which significantly impacted the overall enjoyment of the meal. Hygiene Issues: The floor had food remnants, and the staff were wearing outside clothes – not the most appetizing sight. Toilet Situation: While the toilets smelled clean, the cubicles were tiny, making it uncomfortable. Plus, the hand dryer was out of order. In summary, The Carvery fell short of expectations. I’d recommend exploring other options in the area. 🍽️

food is lovely. Menu needs updating we was told the full works is no longer 5 pigs in blankets now 3 although it still states in the menu it's 5! Staff cannot be telling customers the menu is wrong if you are still using them. Tables were really sticky, outside is run down. Maybe put back a play area and not broken benches.
