Banyers House in North Hertfordshire

I recently had the pleasure of having breakfast at Banyers, and it was truly an exceptional experience! From the moment me and my friend walked in, we were greeted by Kimberley, who was not only approachable but also extremely professional. Kim served me and my friend and was quick 🙂 The staff was incredibly friendly, creating a warm and cosy atmosphere. The dining atmosphere was cosy and quiet perfect for a chat and a bite to eat. Now, let's talk about the food. The brioche was out of this world - hands down, the best I've ever had! The quality of the breakfast and drinks was outstanding, and what's even better is that all of this came at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend Banyers to anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience. The combination of delicious food, friendly staff, cosy atmosphere, and reasonable prices make it a true gem in the restaurant scene. Five stars all the way!

We recently visited for lunch and it was very nice. I had the fish finger sandwich and it was delicious. We bought a pizza for our child and I would've been pleased to have it myself. It's not the cheapest of places but we walked out thinking it was definitely worth it. We didn't go outside but the outside area looks like it would be great in the good weather.

Booked a room through offpeakluxury. It was described as "calm stylish and elegant atmosphere". It was the absolute opposite. Noisy loud music, tired and run down. It was nothing more than a pub with rooms. Nowhere for residents to sit in a calm space as it was absolutely rammed full of pub goers in the bar and restaurant. It certainly wasn't stylish or elegant with broken seating propped up by bits of wood, curtains hanging unhooked from the rails, sticky menus and tables, dead flowers in the vases on tables and spilled lemon slices left all over the floor behind the bar. The Pat testing on all electrical equipment in the was last done in 2020 or 2021 which is 3 or 4 years out of date. Even the radio didn't work. The only thing that was reasonable was the food although that and the wine were pricey. Having paid almost £200 for the priveledge I think we were absolutely robbed. I've had fabulous experiences for a lot less and with spa, swimming pool, sauna and steam room included. I certainly won't be visiting the premises or using offpeakluxury site ever again. Disappointing doesn't describe it.

Had breakfast with my daughter, food was okay, definitely had better, mine looked like it had been thrown on the plate to be honest. Service was excellent.

Banyers House offers all day dining for guests and walk ins. We popped in for lunch just after 2pm. Initially on entering we were ignored by a man behind the bar, it seemed that his shift was over, he needed to update his colleague taking over, there was absolutely no acknowledgement of us at all. When I asked the lady that was taking over if we could have lunch she said No, at my perplexed expression she then said of course you can. I said we'd not been to Banyers before. (We were initially unaware of the times the restaurant was serving food). Our table wasn't very stable but we managed to not spill our drinks and eat our food, the Malbec wine was delicious, the coffee my partner had was ok. My bolegnese was ok, lacked depth of flavour imo, but it was hot and filling, my partner had a fish finger sandwich that was fairly large, nicely presented and delicious with salad and a dressing on the side. The service we received from our waitress was friendly and courteous,. The table was laid with nice cutlery and pristine white linen napkins which is a nice touch. The surroundings, however, leave a lot to be desired, the whole place needs a good clean and tidy up, we found food debris on the window cills and floor, our view outside was of a courtyard with outdoor tables, the area was full of leaves and moss. Which gives it an un cared for look and feel, In my opinion a bit more attention to detail would lift this venue from ok to very good. The restaurant does have a 5☆ hygiene rating. In short it's a lovely building in a nice area but as my school report often said, can do better if paid more attention.

Great service - Jodie really does her job well and looks after diners. Lovely food - good variety and lots of fresh stuff. Great meal, thank you. We’ll be back soon!

This is overpriced and delivers none of its hype. Its simply a pub with rooms above. This was sold as relaxing break. No welcome, everything was dirty - tables, bar, floor. Overbearing thumping music. Staff clearly not trained in customer service in restaurant, bar and generally. I have nothing positive to say about this experience.

Absolutely fantastic food and services in the beautiful restaurant. We only had a 3 course lunch here, though if that is anything to go by I'm sure the accommodation would be brilliant too. Very highly recommended and we will definitely be visiting again. Thank you for the excellent service.

We had a lovely Sunday roast then a relaxing evening and stayed over the night.

We booked one of the pods for our families belated Christmas gathering and had a wonderful visit. The pod itself had heating and was very spacious and comfortable. We did have a baby with us and although we couldn't have a high chair in the pod we have a pop up chair which fit on the bench fine. Gary served us and he was excellent, really funny and welcoming and humoured our Christmas in March. The food was delicious and as a group we tried a number of different items from the menu and could not fault it. Would not hesitate to book again.

We have just celebrated our family 'Christmas' together (yes I know it's March) at Banyers. We booked a pod to have our meal together and have a had a fabulous afternoon. Good food and great service. Gary was brilliant even providing Christmas crackers!! Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you. We will be back.

I'd not been before last night and went to have a meal with a friend. Really lovely surroundings and the food was superb. The service from everyone was lovely but the lady who brought most of our food and who instinctively split our bill for us was briliant. I will definitely be back and will definitely not be sharing the haloumi chips next time - they will be all mine!!

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights with friends. The rooms were very comfortable and exceptionally clean. Everything in the room you could possibly want, from toiletries to dressing gowns. The hotel proved to be so inviting from check in to bar staff, we decided to eat there on the Saturday evening. Turned out to be great decision. The foods was great and a vast selection. We will return, thank you very much.

First time to Banyers House. It will be my last. The first thing I expect in any establishment is cleanliness and Banyers House fell down big time. Dirty floors, dirty bar surface, dirty tables, wall light bulbs caked in cobwebs. Coffee average, better going to Costa!

Great food and drinks, good setting and atmosphere.

We held our post Wedding Dinner here, the service was fantastic and they managed to accommodate all 26 of us even after a Plumbing leak had lead to the original room being unavailable. The alternative room and atmosphere they created was amazing and hats off to the whole team especially Hannah and Kim who organized it all. For those also looking for an event venue this is a great place to choose in Royston and has two set menu's of options to choose from. I can testify that Set Menu A was not only amazing but all of our group loved it. We also had a couple of our group staying at Banyers House as well and they enjoyed their over night stay.

We had high expectations as we live near a very good Oakmans Inn, unfortunately Bayners House was a let down. Staff friendly and professional, and venue as expected, but the food was a big let down. I explained that I have an issue with cheese (it makes me ill) and yet my starter had pesto on it. My main was dry chicken in a dry bun and what seemed like frozen chips. It was a big let down and such a shame as it was a family event. If they got the food right, they’d be unstoppable. The team are great and the venue is lovely, but whoever is responsible for the food needs to do some work. It would be a shame if Oakmans allow their standards to drop as they grow.

Stayed here for 2 nights we had a wedding nearby , rooms were lovely , had breakfast and dinner which very tasty the staff were amazing especially Jan who went out of his way to buy us some umbrellas so we didn’t get wet getting to the cab . Would definitely recommend

amazing restaurant, not too expensive too. had the eggs royale and a half pint of cider, the latter being more aligned to london prices. was on a weekday midday and not too busy, a little slow service initially but friendly enough.

We only went to the restaurant. The food was not bad but the service was quite slow. This was one of our parties second visit and we were warned by her about the slow service before going. This did not bother us as we are retired but for some people it may be an issue

Just called in for a coffee mid-morning with the dogs after walking on the Heath. Staff were friendly and welcoming and offered us a seat in the bar area. Very good coffee and prompt service. Went back on Boxing Day for another visit. Equally good this time too. On next visit we will definitely try out the breakfast menu. Rare to find places like this and would recommend it.

Fantastic service and good food for an extended family Christmas meal

We have found The Banyer to be a bit hit or miss but we decided to give it another try for a birthday Sunday lunch as the birthday person lived in Royston. Yum! Is the word that I can only describe for that dinner. Could eat it again. Plenty of Roast Beef, huge Yorkshire Pudding and the gravy was to die for, so we asked for another pot. Lovely side order of cauliflower cheese enough for 2. We will be coming back in the New Year. Hope the standard stays the same now.

Great staff and a great breakfast. One of the two rooms we had was adjacent to the kitchen industrial extractor which is left on all night and meant the people in that room did not get a good nights sleep.

Arrived 3am after a delayed flight to very helpful night porter service, my bag was lost but the staff team were helpful in directing me to the right shops for what I needed for a customer meeting. Rooms were spacious and well presented and the food was lovely. Great experience, though short and stressful!

Amazing place food drinks brilliant

This is the first time that we have visited this establishment which was recommended and booked by our daughter who lives locally. For privacy she booked us an oakpod, which I mistakenly through would be cold. But on the contrary, once the door was closed and heater on, it soon became toasty warm and cosy. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and shown outside and through the garden to our oak-pod for dining, which gave us the privacy needed but obviously without the ambiance and background noise that is normally associated in a restaurant. The oakpod also has an entertainment system, and the staff provided a iPhone charge cable, which allowed us the unique experience to listen to our choice of music at our volume. All the staff are extremely accommodating and nothing was of any problems. Throughout the stay, the staff constantly visited the pod to ensure all was ok. We all had different starters and mains menu choices and the meals were excellent and of decent position sizes. Everyone in our party of five, thoroughly enjoyed their meals and the pod experience.

Staff very friendly, drinks good. Staff offered to rub sprinkles on my bald head.

COELIACS AVOID! I went to Banyers this evening with my partner and her parents who were visiting for a meal. My partner is coeliac and, in accordance with the instructions on the menu, she alerted our server to this and ordered dishes marked with the gf symbol. 10 minutes after arriving home her stomach was swollen to 4 times it’s normal size and she was vomiting violently - all tell-tale signs that she had consumed gluten. In defence of the venue they provided a full refund after her father went in to explain what had happened, but that doesn’t erase the issue.

We recently held our Diamond Wedding Anniversary celebration at the Banyers. The service was excellent , the buffet lunch was first class and the staff were very helpful, especially the manager Hannah who looked after us from the beginning.

Had an excellent dinner recently. Liked the food, ambience as well as the very courteous staff, one of whom my toddler may have fallen in love with. Will definitely visit again to have that sea bass with rice.

Beautiful spacious rooms with views of Royston church. Breakfast was fab and staff very friendly. Loved the animal wallpaper up the stairs too! Just a few niggles hence why not 5 star for us… - no lift for my 94 year old grandmother so the stairs were fun! - £20 extra for early check-in (even if your room is ready and you accidentally arrive earlier than planned) - food took a while to arrive after placing lunch order (restaurant was not busy) - we found crumbs (and a nut) under the dressing table in our room, which was not ideal with a crawling 1year old! - windows appear to be single glazed so it’s rather noisy at night being right next to the road - quite bright at night too with various safety lights on in the room all night (also there’s gaps above the curtain poles so streetlight light creeps in) - maybe fitted Roman blinds would be better? Overall a nice stay (the above niggles did not impact our visit too much but if fixed/improved then this place could be amazing). We would stay again.

I held my 40th Birthday party at The Banyers in their lounge and cannot recommend it enough. Hannah went out of her way to be helpful from the moment I met with her and ensured that everything ran like clockwork. Pre-ordered drinks were set out ready for guests arriving and were replenished throught the night. The same with the delicious pizzas and the service was impeccable! Drinks topped up throught the night, the cake was cut up perfectly and drinks ordered from the bar quickly. Thank you so much Hannah and team for making it a night to remember. I will be recommending The Banyers to friends!!

Food is average & overpriced for what it is. Drinks poorly maintained - coke flavourless. Staff were not particularly attentive, and service after the mains was very slow with not a great attitude shown by our waitress. Overall pretty disappointing. Considering the price, this place seems to be presented as something it definitely isn't.

We recently had our wedding reception at the Banyers. The building itself is wonderful. We used the function room and booked a couple of the hotel rooms for getting ready and staying the night of the wedding. Everything is well presented and clean, a great setting for wedding photographs and all around a comfortable place to be! What really blew us away is the staff here. When we approached the Banyers we met our coordinator Hannah and we were instantly put at ease and so excited to work more with her. Our wedding was short notice but it was never a problem. We felt like we could ask Hannah anything and we very much did! We met several times to update plans and we were always met with a smile and a fun experience. We also got to meet the head chef and sample his wedding menu, what a mindblowing afternoon that was! All of the food is delicious and we could tell how much pride and effort he and the kitchen team put into their work. The process of ordering our food was simple and pricing was very clear for the various options available. They are super flexible which was great. When the wedding finally came, Hannah was always close by making sure it all ran smoothly and offering any help we needed. The rest of the staff were also absolutely amazing. From being there late with us setting up the night before, to packing things down the day after. We got to spend several hours with them across our time there and they are a really friendly and caring bunch. Cannot thank them enough for all their help! The wedding turned out super special and intimate, we absolutely made the right choice holding it at the Banyers House and will be customers at the restaurant many times in the future!

Staying here for two nights for a wedding at South Farm. Central location in town with hotel parking. Rooms, bar and restaurant are lovely, dinner was fantastic but what stood out for me the most were the staff, so welcoming, informative and helpful. Big shout out to jodie who was amazing sorting out my wedding taxi's xx

Outstanding meal with great service

We used to really enjoy visiting Banyers house as a treat on the weekends for breakfast. It is sadly not the same anymore. The standard has significantly dropped and was way overpriced for the poor breakfast we had. Scrambled eggs were overcooked, cold mushrooms, and the 1 Croissant we ordered didn't get put through. Our daughter had to wait an additional 10 min for this, by which time we had finished. I'm really disappointed and have booked for a meal at Christmas, but I am now debating if we should cancel this.

Met up with friends for a meal service was good, but the food so so Not good quality for the money you pay disappointed. Com.

Banyers has such great potential, with a large carpark and garden and a superb Garden room and cute private dining huts in the garden , we have eaten a few times there having mainly Sunday Roasts and they food was very good. There seems a shortage of staff generally and we were asked to place our order at the bar if we wanted to dine outside, this would have been Ok excepted we were also charges 10% service charge on the bill only really noticed after we left.I think service should only be added if you have benefitted from table service. All said, a nice relaxed atmosphere and with more staff it would benefit a lot.

Very poor meal which I did not eat, husbands meal was also poor. I was offered another choice but would not have wanted to eat by myself as I would have to wait for it to be cooked.

Excellent restaurant for when you would like something a little more up market.

I chose this restaurant for a long overdue catch up with a friend. We had booked a table outside which had a reserved sign yet no chairs which was disappointing to start with. I don’t expect having to find my own chairs when I book a table at a restaurant if this calibre. Our order was taken promptly but the food arrived before the drinks. When they finally turned up I noticed that my bottle of Diet Coke was out of date so I returned it. The Nourish bowl I ordered was a bowl with some salad, reasonably ok - but sounded a lot more special than it looked or tasted. And certainly nothing special. I ordered a jug of water and despite three reminders I am still waiting for it now. All in all there was no love lost with the service and the place in general. Bearing in mind it is not cheap and gives the impression of being a special restaurant with possibly great potential it’s a real shame that we both had to leave being disappointed. It is obvious management are not taking care of the establishment. A service charge was cheekily added to the bill which I requested to be removed as there was definitely no service. It was my second time at Banyers and my second time of being dissatisfied so I certainly won’t be back.

Haven’t been to Banyers for a while so we thought we would be brave - wished we hadn’t ! Very dirty, plates, cutlery and glasses left all over tables. They hadn’t been cleared or cleaned. We went late afternoon .Staff complaining about their shift and pay behind the bar ! Drinks really expensive. Terrible atmosphere. Won’t be back .

We recently stayed at this hotel and i must say we wasn't dissapointed! Excellent service from all, a special mention to Kim the assistant manager who was especially helpful and very proffessional! Breakfast and dinner was amazing would definately recomnend staying, eating or drinking here (try and get the outside pods, really good fun). I’m sorry but whoever was seemingly in charge of the restaurant on 26th July was an utter disgrace. We sit down, order some drinks and olives for the table. The beer tastes like it’s at the end of the barrel, no big deal… however, the olives were rancid. They tasted off and were fizzing in our mouths. After our experience with the olives, we decided that we’d rather take our chances elsewhere… and looking at recent Google reviews, our decision seemed wise… I inform one of the waitress’ that we’d clear the bill for the drinks but would like the olives removed. The waitress goes off and explains the situation to a ‘manager’. The ‘manager’ proceeds to interrogate us about how we arrived at our decision. Not a single apology and we were berated and spoken to aggressively for sticking by leaving. It all culminated in the ‘manager’ slapping the bill on the table and storming off in a huff, WITH the olives still on the bill! About 5 minutes pass with the ‘manager’ serving other people in that time and completely ignoring us. Eventually, we decide to leave as the level of rudeness on top of the disgusting food was too much to take on the chin. We leave and halfway down the road the ‘manager’ is shouting at us from the entrance. We turn back and explain the situation once more about why we had left. The ‘manager’ explains how it’s not fair as the ‘chef had started cooking our food’. A clear lie designed to try and guilt trip us into returning as we hadn’t even got to the point of ordering mains! Rather embarrassingly I point this out, an awkward moment of silence ensues only for the ‘manager’ to go off on an insane ramble about how loads of other people had ‘really enjoyed the olives’. An absolutely shocking experience, not even Basil Fawlty could dream this one up. Honestly what the hell was that?! If you can’t handle people telling you that the olives were off, get another job! Avoid this place like the PLAGUE!!

We stayed overnight with my family. Arrived around 4pm had drinks in the garden, which is a lovely area. We chose to dine in pods and that felt like a great experience. The food was superb! We had lobster and prawn cocktails and meat platter, main course mussels was excellent and the portion was generous. Regarding the room, it was spacious with pleasant decor. The bed was something else, so comfortable, we had an amazingly good night sleep, didn't want to leave it in the morning. For a stay cation it is definitely great place to spend a weekend. Staff was friendly, made us feel welcome and was very attentive throughout all our stay. A huge thanks from our family. Definitely will be back again!

Excellent food and good service.

I have been to Banyers many times and had a lovely meal. Today however I went to have breakfast and had the worst experience. The waitress who came to serve me greeted me with “I have just come on shift”. My experience with her did not get any better. Everything felt like it was a huge effort and she gave no thought to how she was coming across. Eg when I asked for some more toast this was served without any butter. I had to ask for some butter. I could hear her tutt as she walked away. Maybe I got her on a bad day, but she managed to ‘sour’ my day with her attitude and totally spoilt my breakfast

Booked for a large group of 24 people 29/04/2023 and we had a brilliant time - really comfortable dining room, excellent service and everybody was more than happy with their food and drinks.

Food and drinks were amazing, however , the best part of my experience was the quality of the service. Everyone was extremely lovely, serving us with big smiles! They deserve the biggest pay raise!!! Absolutely made my day! :)

Excellent service at the bar. Friendly staff, and very accommodating. The place is clean and tidy. The atmosphere was great, and I like that, you have a very comfortable seating area with large sofas and spacious.

Ordered the salad bowl with hummus etc,arrived ,limp salty lettuce, cold slimy sweet potato,unripe avocado,orange cold pumpkin I think,and Luke warm chick peas just emptied from a tin ,not even drained.best bit was hallumi chips which were obviously pre made. Overall a load of slop...

Nice place. More discerning option for Royston folk. Not the cheapest but good. Struggles for staffing at times like many other places.

Really nice friendly atmosphere, with nice food, although the sea food spaghetti was hard to eat as you didn't get the right cutlery for it, but the fish and chips was excellent and we will certainly go again.

Disapointing experience. Paid for dinner the night before eating in the downstairs restaurant and split the bill with a colleague and then come to find out they charge me again for the same meal and drinks (only the whole bill) I already had split and paid for when I check out and they email me the bill and I'm going through receipts for expenses when I return home. Beware and watch your bill if you dine in the restaurant and then stay in the hotel when you checkout. I tried to reach out via email as I'm based out of the U.S. and have not had resolution to this issue yet. Seemed to be very disorganized established where one hand does not talk to the other.
