We recently had a family birthday meal for 15 people in the restuarant and the food was just as delicious as a previous meal we had there. Pre ordering the food by email was very convenient and the service was excellent-nothing was too much trouble.I would definitely recommend the meals here for any occasion and will be visiting again in the near future perhaps not with 15 people this time though!

Visited for a Sunday lunch although not having booked we were welcomed from the start. We chose the Sunday lunch one gammon the other beef and gammon following a short discussion on whether the beef would be tender, as our experience recently in other establishments leads us to ask this question. On confirming our choice the neighbouring table endorsed our decision on choosing the beef. The meal was indeed delicious and unusually the gravy was a subject on its own. It appears the gravy gets special attention (again neighbouring table endorsement). The witress explained their meat comes from a local butcher who we know has a excellant reputation in this area. Quaint village pub with lots of character very friendly and helpful staff. We will be back. DO NOT CHANGE THE COOK(s).

We visited The Rose and Crown in Ashwell on a Thursday evening. We were greeted by a very friendly staff. We were shown to our table and were served drinks quickly. The new menu is absolutely fantastic, so many different dishes to choose from. The food came out piping hot, was very well presented and it tasted outstanding!! The atmosphere was great, amazing choice of drinks and the staff was very professional and friendly. We will definitely come back again.

Unfortunately our first visit to the rose and crown since Sam and Sian took over, it won’t be the last though. We booked as a last minute thing on a Friday evening. The pub was bustling and lively with plenty of regulars in the bar area. We went through to the restaurant to eat (me, wife and 11 year old son) Wife and son had the sirloin steak and I had the buttermilk chicken burger. The food took a reassuring time to come out (not so quick like some chain pubs where you know it’s basically been microwaved) the food when it arrived was delicious. The staff were pleasant, attentive and not overbearing like some can be. We will be back, in fact we have booked for Sunday lunch so won’t be long.

Spontaneous decision to go out for a post Christmas meal and so glad we chose The Rose and Crown. The steak was cooked exactly as I’d asked, chips we scrumptious and blue cheese sauce homemade. Staff were attentive and helpful, we will be back….For Sunday lunch. What a gem of a pub.

Epic country pub, landlords so welcoming (even Sam - LOL) and great staff.... brilliant food, engaging staff and awesome selection of beer, wine, etc..... defo a must visit if you are driving through or looking for somewhere new to try....

Very odd to be fair. We had been here before, but today was completely different. The pub was very cold. No music, no atmosphere. Bar staff, zero personality. The only thing that cheered this up, was the Halloween decorations. Drinks very expensive. Great shame.

What an amazing Sunday Roast! It was fabulous. Thank you Sam ! Had the duo, roast beef and chicken.....and I am fussy, I don't like chicken on the bone, this was deboned rolled and stuffed....both meats were beautiful, roast potatoes, gravy and yorkies to die for ! Also came with whole baby carrots, broccoli and cauliflower. Nice veg too. Superb

I had afternoon tea with a group for my friends birthday, the food was delicious and excellent service.

Came here for a meal and were so impressed we came back the second night.the staff are friendly and knowledgable. The Landlady is a gem and the kitchen is AMAZING. The food here was such a surprise to us that we did not hesitate to cone back for a second helping. A true hidden gem.

We got there at 14.20 as it was advertised on the door that they serve food till 16.00 on Sundays, however they told us that the kitchen will open at 15.00. We had a drink and we gave up. Other people they were eating when we arrived. The tables were sticky, and the cutlery stuck on the table. Which was the final straw and decided to leave.

Wow! What a find! This local, understated pub serves the best food. We had the the haddock and chips, beautifully presented on a hot plate with the most delicious thin crispy ale batter, delicious. My husband had the sausage and mash, again beautifully presented and every mouthful a treat. Sticky toffee pudding for dessert, what can I say!! A warm welcome with great service, we will be back, This pub run be Sian and Sam is a real find! We will be back. Richard & Jo

Absolutely lovely staff and service - at first we went to the three tuns but the atmosphere was awful and staff rude. We left after 10 mins and thought we would give the rose and crown a go - will definitely be back for a casual evening meal!

We had lunch here, very friendly, efficient bar staff. The food was excellent, my husband had truffle and parmesan fries, his favourite, and he said these ones were second only to the ones he had last year in Yarm, which were so good he's still raving about them. Just passing popped in for early lunch. Not very busy but had an excellent meal. Me Burger&chips my wife tuna jacket potato. Washed down with a good pint of Timothy Taylor. Service was friendly and welcoming. Pub was in good order looked like the painting had been recently refreshed. The meal doesn't sound like much in this review but it was 1st class. Highly recommended.

We left so pleased we’ve already booked our next dinner! Thanks for hosting our very large group and ensuring we all had the BEST time! Great place for a drink with some locals and good food. Sian, Sam, Liam & Jade are a great team and always make you feel welcome. They have bands, a quiz etc so there's usually something going on there. 2 NOV 2022 The addition of Fifi and Sydney to the staff has made it even more welcoming. We have great fun at the monthly quiz, there's often live bands on & the menu is updated regularly. I've just had take-away fish & chips and it was delicious 😋. I would highly recommend the staff, atmosphere and food. ***** Remains a fun place to go, fab staff who are really friendly and helpful.

Found this pub when my son played football up the road. Friendly staff and atmosphere and have now used it several times. Good value food and always enjoy visiting.

We enjoyed a fantastic Sunday Roast at the pub on Easter Sunday. Very generous portions and a good variety of beautifully cooked vegetables. The Roast potatoes and the gravey deserve a special mention. All served in a professional and friendly manner!

Popped in today on the off chance of eating. The couple behind the bar were lovely and friendly. Explained about shortage of kitchen staff but the chef said it was ok. We both had the roast beef and went regular size (smaller portion available). It was lovely, proper roast potatoes and flavoursome gravy. Really enjoyed it. Thank you we will be back.

I went here recently for a family meal and the food was just amazing and great value. But what really sets this hidden gem pub apart is the friendly attentive service, they couldn't do more for you and always ensured you were looked after. Can't wait to come back again.

Had a beautiful meal this evening with my partner. Food was super quick and tasted insane! Served by a lovely lady named Fifi who was very efficient and friendly! 100% recommend and definitely coming back!! The other chap was Also rather present, didn’t catch his name though! Really enjoyed our time!

Beautiful food & outstanding service. The bar staff were really friendly & helped us choose where to go the next day for breakfast. Decor was dates but it had such a homely feel to it. Really enjoyed our visit. If ever we’re in the area again, we’ll definitely call back.

We had lunch today in this lovely traditional village pub. Delicious food, friendly staff but no one else was eating there! Definitely worth a visit for good, tasty traditional pub food! A very enjoyable lunch out with friends.

Food was ok but the place was cold, no heat on just a small fire in an adjoining area.

We had a delicious supper at the pub last night. Rob had Braised Pig Cheeks, and I had Duck Breast and they were both amazing. Perfectly cooked and seasoned with an excellent selection of winter vegetables. We could not actually remember the last time we had had an evening meal out ! The service is friendly but professional, and there was a lovely atmosphere of a traditional local pub. We will do this again soon!

We popped in last night for supper and chose the steak and Duck Breast dishes. They were beautufully cooked with a lovely variety of vegetables. Even though there was a function on in the garden and the pub was very busy, the service was prompt and professional, and as always very friendly. We are very lucky to have this as our local!9

This is the village pub to go to, warm welcome as the fire lit making a great atmosphere. Landlord top guy a big dog lover, he even came over with a bowl of water just for the dogs. Sit yourself down and chose from the menu, oh them pigs cheeks are amazing. Three of my favourite bitters, what do you need, had a great evening, quieter on Wednesday. Friday evening is the place to be, get yourself down to the Rose and Crown.

Came to Ashwell for a few days, a few locals recommended the Rose and Crown. We had a very warm welcome was a traditional pub, dog friendly. All the staff very friendly. Good food and beer.

After a 7 mile walk on hot day it was tranquillity itself. Great pint of cloudy cider and a good size beer garden. Great welcome and thanks for custom.

Probably fine if you are a meat eater but there was one unimaginative veggie/vegan choice of the Sunday lunch ...a risotto..... The waitress did offer to see if there was any left over curry they could heat up for us....Changed my mind about having lunch there so can’t comment on the quality of the food .

The Rose and Crown now have a new menu and serve food Thursdays through to Sunday. The new restaurant is amazing and the food is outstanding.

Three of us had dinner at the Rose on a Saturday evening. Good to see that all the tables were occupied. The menu was appetising and the presentation was excellent. We had a lovely time. Thank you.

The food was amazing and very good service. As a vegan they gave me loads of options and said they could cook me anything I wanted! Really appreciated this- made a lovely trip out, would recommend!

Great food and service in the restaurant. It’s run as a separate operation to the bar which provides the drinks. Nice touches of ironed tablecloths and well distanced tables. Duck breast excellent as was sea bass and very good desserts. Wine selection very limited to two white and two red, but the Sauvignon and Malbec were both fine. Have to pay separately for food and drink but well worth a visit.

New chef Darren has extensive experience as an executive chef on cruise ships and it shows - the food is fine dining quality, served in a pub style. Well worth a visit.

Great food, great beer garden, covid-safety well managed, some more signage for the one way system might be beneficial.

Lekker pub dedicated to bringing community together in a beautiful setting. A dedicated, fenced play area with swings & a slide for kids to play pirates or princesses in a castle. Loads of space to enjoy a family day out or drinks with mates... Good booze, good food & great atmosphere! Ticks all the right boxes...

I cannot speak highly enough of the landlord and staff. Excellent service tonight. Recommend to anyone staying at the local caravan site as we were.

Lovely pub with friendly bar service. Large garden which is helpful at the moment and lots of signs about social distancing and entrance and exit to be used. Not sure the customers are cooperating fully or if the landlord has eased up on requirements but the sign in sheets were clearly 'old' and no sign of any paper to continue with contact tracing requirements. Very busy none the less obviously as this is a friendly place. We did not have any food to comment on. My worry would be the limited adherence to social distancing and contact tracing and unfortunately the toilet left a great deal to be desired. There was hand sanitiser but no soap accessible to wash your hands and there did not seem to have been any general cleaning. This is such a shame as I think it is a good indicator of hygiene standards overall. I would like to recommend but you need to be prepared to accept the shortfalls too
