No doubt one of the best Spoons in the area. Very nice stylish and new look inside, good beer garden. Big team of staff and good service so far. Food or drinks always cheap and not burden on pocket. Atmosphere is the main thing that creating this place image very well.

A very pleasant Wetherspoons. Good service via the app. Food and drink as expected. Only criticism was that they weren't very quick at clearing the tables of glasses and plates.

This score is based on a busy Friday. Many food products not available. Drinks arrived after our food was consumed and on asking where our drinks were I was rudely confronted by a staff member and an even worse manager. My first bad review of a Wetherspoons unfortunately due to the rude staff and poor service.

Ordered breakfast. Bacon wasn't cooked properly as the fat was white and rubbery. Poached egg wasn't poached but microwaved and cooked to high hell. Not only that the cutlery provided was filthy. Sent it back and was given the same bacon and egg back still not properly cooked. Was lectured by the waitress that we should inform at the desk about having crispy bacon. Argued that we did when it arrived and they still brought uncooked bacon over. Out of the 4 men's cubicles 3 had faeces on the seats. Oh and the coffee is terrible. Never coming back what a shame as the space is actually decent.

Avoid if there is a concert on at the Hitchin priory. Ordered food via the app, food came in good time but drinks didn't arrive for over half an hour. Waitress expressed that they were short staffed. The employees looked overworked and had a lack of interest in providing good customer service. I decided to order another set of drinks at the bar and queued up for 35mins. With one person in front of me, the employee behind the bar completed half the order and disappeared. He came back, I questioned where he had gone as left us waiting and he boasted that it was too busy and he went for a break. We exchanged harsh words regarding professionalism in the work place. Finally i was served by another member of staff. Very very bad customer service and lack of management on that day.

Great conversion of the original Conservative Club in Hitchin. Historic building tastefully improved witha large metal and glass conservatory on the rear of the Georgian building. Usual Wetherspoon menu and drinks at excellent prices. We visit everytime we're in Hitchin as it is a lovely building in a lovely area of the town. Visit 31/8/24 : Still just as good but incredibly busy with very little room. Shows how popular it is with the shoppers.

Can’t fault the service here today, staff were really friendly and helpful, pleasant experience definitely. Food was quite quick arriving. Ordered a small American style breakfast- hash-browns were cold. Ordered a fruit bowl as well, apples had quite a soft and powdery texture, was unable to eat them. Banana’s were really gooey as well, quite slimy which was disappointing, it seemed that rather than the “fresh” fruit advertised these had been sat on the side for a while. Prices are obviously really good as well, but I guess you get what you pay for

Large pub/ restaurant, you’ll find your fav spot where you can sit comfortably. Bring laptop and plug in if you wish. Clean big lavatories. Can get really busy and loud at weekends! Recommend this Wetherspoon!

I'm surprised by some of the poor reviews and the average of 3.9. Just about the smartest Wetherspoons we've visited, comfortable seating and nicely laid out inside, plus a huge garden. The member of staff who served us was polite and friendly, usual bargain prices on coffee - with free refills - drinks, food. Excellent

Come here on a regular basis. Always really enjoy the food and the staff helpful and welcoming especially Claire and Sarah

The pub itself is really nice lots of places to sit and the garden is really lovely! Food is nice to bar staff are jokey and fun too. Spoilt however by an extremely rude thug.. I mean "bouncer" who shouted in my face when I accidentally knocked into him whilst he was throwing a tantrum about people not being quick enough to get out the garden.

3 meal 3 time went back for being cold. on each time didn`t even make it back to the kitchen because they where returned to quick. the very mouthy assist manager who returned our food to use on the third time got a bit of a shock when as 3 of our party are chefs and started to tell her about food safety laws. finally our food was cooked to a safe temperature. then just to add to are night tried couple of times to short measure on spirits

Cold food( 3 MEALS) with a row with assistant about taken it back And just been served a Bailey in a 25 ml shot glass went questioned staff I don't know ( hate to tell you bailey is a 50 ml)not going back don't bother going !!!

Very easy review - went for drinks, was the last in the smoking area (that closed early) & so got manhandled & assaulted by the bouncers. Ridiculous. Unprofessional & reported to the police. Will never be going back.

Great pub with a great vibe and nice back garden

A lovely place for a meal with lots of history. A nice outdoor area for when the sun is out. Depending on where you sit it can be like a labyrinth to get to the bar but at least you get to see all the different bits of history that is displayed. Highly recommend. Friendly staff and although it seemed busy for a Monday there were no queues.

Particular waitress had a very bad attitude and threw down cutlery when pointed out the order was wrong and stropped off in a huff, this was over a gluten free option The manageress was less than sympathetic and was more than rude and ordered us to leave bearing in mind we are in our 70s and the waitress was early 20 We visited this pub many times before and will not return Avoid at all costs Appalling customer service Will be contacting weatherspoons To report this and recommend a course in customer service and how not treat customers like dirt,without customers weatherspoons wouldn’t exist!!!

I've always liked Wetherspoons and they've worked hard at getting the place workable during covid 19. Good community pub serving all generations although older people may struggle sharing the same space with teen-agers weekend evenings who don't have personal volume controls!! Added: 31/3/24. Another excellent evening with friends. Good food, excellent range of drinks and service better than you could hope for.

Walked in the front, dirty tables, plates left from meals, nowhere clean to sit. Finally got a drink from the bar, which was dirty, I did get a clean glass though! Again outside, dirty tables and tables filled with empty glasses and empty bottles. How many red flags? I should have realised when I got to the bar!!

A typical Witherspoons pub, food OK, plenty of different beers on tap, service ok. Was only there for lunch so did not spend too much time.

Me and my friends have just witnessed this evening, two of the bouncers swear at a girl unprovoked outside whilst we were leaving. Absolutely shocking language, and very intimidating towards her. The young person walked away, but we can’t allow that to go unreported!

As expected large range of food and drink catering to all tastes. Friendly locals and bar staff. How many other pubs do cups of tea (for the missus) and real ale these days? Bit of a climb to the toilets though.

Slow on service. Failed to inform no fried eggs instead served what they called scrambled more like reconstituted dried mush. No apologies for slow delivery over 40 minutes wait. Had to get coffee cups ourselves as total lack of staff. Not recommended in any way. Clearly cutting costs with no care for customer.

We had a vegetarian breakfast, and normal breakfast. I enjoyed the vegetarian very much, coffee was nice, price very good, service excellent. Loved it there.

Very rude staff. We wanted to sit in their garden with our dog who is super friendly and quiet, however one of the waitresses met us and said “You’re not allowed here with this dog!” and just turned away. While we were getting out another one saw us and said “dogs are not allowed in our garden, so please leave”, yes we were trying to leave… I respect their NO dog policy (thanks God majority of the venues in UK are dog friendly) however this is just not the way to meet a customers and tell them they’re not welcome in your venue.

Hands down the best 'Spoons in the area. I mean it's basically the 6th form common room but it's cheap nosh and an excuse to drink in the week without the shame extending to the depletion of the bank balance. DON'T JUDGE ME.

This was a massive let down. It took over a hour to get our food and when we did finally receive our food, only two out of 4 meals arrived. About 30 minutes later a waiter came to our table with all 4 meals (a duplicate of two of the meals that had already been eaten by two of us). Turns out the first two meals weren’t for our table, however the waiter was very insistent before that it was (as it’s two of what we ordered we didn’t think twice about eating it), which then led to an awkward confrontation with the table next to ours that claimed it was their food. All 4 of the meals that arrived over a hour after ordering were cold, and one meal in particular was stone cold. The stone cold meal was sent back and everyone else had finished eating by the time the replacement arrived. This entire experience was disgraceful and unpleasant, we will not be revisiting. We do not recommend ANYONE eating here.

All Weatherspoon pub/restaurants offer an OK menu and good standard of food at great value prices, good service, comfortable environment and unlimited coffee refills. The Angel Vaults is a prime example of the quality, value and service ethos of the chain. Very popular and can get very noisy at busy times. You cannot book a table but it's usually not long before someone moves on. More tables and the bar, food order points to the rear of the building. Update: for the first time in many, many meals here, we both had very poor steak meals, one just about edible for less than half and the other sent back replaced with one only a little better. Up your game. Note that the car park to the rear of the building is closed/restricted on market days.

Disappointed with the choice of ales.

My Muslim friend sat on the floor and the bar staff refused to serve us. I can’t believe the discrimination taste has towards Muslims. We were spending money and the Muslim sit down and have his religious reasons and and was discreet.

Once again the food was cold and the staff had a couldn't care attitude. Tables were dirty and coffee machines not working. This place is one to miss

One of the best spoons I have seen lovely garden

I had an order error on the app. Ordered a meal and a drink and received (and was charged for) 2 meals and 1 drink. Made no sense. When I questioned this on receipt I was told it was my error and refused a refund. Despite explaining that it’s not possible to order 2 mains and 1 drink when ordering a meal deal, the manager was insistent it was my error and refused a refund. He refused to give me contact details for head office/ordering to resolve the issue despite multiple requests. He then got the security to intimidate me. Eventually, after multiple requests for a refund and/or contact details to contact head office (all of which were refused)…..he asked me to leave. I immediately complied- yet I have not yet received my refund. Avoid

The staff are lovely and beers are decent and cheap. Food is okay for the price as with most Wetherspoons. The pub itself is great, lots of room inside and outside.

From Sam at security through through to the lightspeed service, I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the pub, the finnish, atmosphere and value (there's also a carpark)

Would give 0 stars if I could. The vegan small quorn nuggets wrap is a big fat LIE. No veggies there AT ALL even though the ingredients list clearly cucumber and tomato. Advertise your products clearly pls.

Eaten here on the last couple of times we have visited Hitchin. Good value for money, food ok. Waitress on both occasions not very customer friendly. Just plonks the plate of food on table. Feels like this particular Weatherspoons does not need to be customer friendly as is very busy. On both occasions although a comfortable pub, there are people that have had a lot to drink ( possibly due to low prices ). We ate in the early evening (1800 hrs) and had to listen to a very drunk young person swearing for at least an hour. So I wouldn’t recommend taking your children there. Weatherspoons has the right ingredients, but needs to curb the loud drunk individuals.( I thought Hitchin was meant to be ‘upmarket’ )

Visited twice in dec 2023 on consecutive nights, the atmosphere was great ,not too loud but a nice vibe , the service was excellent & the food & drink top notch , couldn't fault the place ,will definitely be visiting again when I'm back in hitchin.

Went in for a late lunch, great warm ambience. The pub was very clean, easy to order with their app, food arrived in great time and was delicious.

What I like about the Angel Vaults is the different areas and that they don’t clash. Eaters can eat and drinkers can drink. Great place.

Complete joke, sat there waiting an hour for our food after we ordered. Wondered where our food was and went over to ask, got told it would be another hour for food! 2 hour wait is totally unacceptable as we had to get back to our coach after a stop off. I don't expect this sort of service from a Wetherspoons when they are normally reliable and fast for food. To their credit we got our money back, but I don't expect to be only told there's another hour wait after already waiting an hour! (they mentioned nothing about the wait when we actually ordered)

Didn't eat food, just went for a social drink with friends. Bar staff were very friendly, and the atmosphere and decor were really cosy. Great garden seating area outside and would definitely go back to try the food.

Not impressed, booked a table, not available when we arrived, somebody else sitting in it..... Not all the menu was available....when ordering sweet menu said £2.50 however was told it was £3.49.....finally not enough bar staff waited for over 10 mins to be served and pub was not busy... can't imagine how long you would have to wait when it's busy.... won't be rushing back.

Firstly it is not a gastropub as described in your heading. It serves standard unadorned unfussy food. And it is cheap cheap cheap. Lovely building, fab location, one of the best Wetherspoons I've been to

A lot of Spoons have gone downhill. This one was one of the best we've been to, in terms of cleanliness etc. Also, the hot chocolate was lovely and actually hot.

Same old, same old Weatherspoons. You get what you pay no surprises. The building in beautiful though and Hitchin is amazing for coffee shops, sandwich bars pubs and eateries. Plenty of other choice if The Angel Vaults isn't for you.

Is great 4 an afternoon. Liked it had a beer garden & the beer is well priced. Will visit it again on a sunny day. Still can't get use 2 queuing so used the app.

Needs more staff, the tables, and menus were wet and sticky. The floor looked dirty. Gents WC was very smelly!

Went for the rugby. Stayed for the night.
