Food was ok, but an hour late. The restaurant did call as it was a lack of delivery drivers, but still very frustrating.

Just came back from picking up my haddock and chips and these are the chips I was served. They were dry, burnt and awful and went straight in the bin. Another local chippy to avoid.

Chips awful they were cold, burnt and rubbery best part about it was the peas

I experienced the worst fish and chips here. Dry and tasteless. It’s a shame because was good a year back. The service was also shocking couldn’t get any of the order right. Sadly won’t return.

Very good quality fish and sweet fries. The cod is half the size it was though.

So disappointed, this is my second visit I ordered small fish chips and peas, and a fish cake special with peas to arrive home with it and open it up to realise there’s no peas on either meal. Tried to ring the shop several times but no one is answering the phone. Was really looking forward to it after my first visit. Although the wait time was 10 minutes, I still received the order with missing items.

the fish was delicious as usual but the chips were extremely disappointing they tasted like yesterday's leftovers reheated. I usually rave about WA14 but they let themselves down today.

A brilliant chippy, with an incredible choice! We were passing through Hale and called in as had a real craving for Fish and Chips. WA14 really satisfied our need! Delicious and freshly cooked, the Cod was meaty and full of fresh flavour, and there was a generous offering of chips. Thank you!

Crunch fish and delicious chips with curry sauce

The food on the whole is really nice and the sea bass option is a great change from other fish and chips. Halloumi is really nice. It is a bit disappointing to make an advance order and have them change the time to 15 mins later one minute before it is due to arrive, and to order (and pay for) portions of sauce that weren’t included in the delivery.

We get fish and chips twice a week delivered to our dad, he lives in his own and doesn’t drive so it’s a lovely treat and it means we get 2 days off a week doing dinner for him. Great service thanks

Beautiful food, the battered sausage was actually crispy unlike these other chippies with there soggy batter also the chips was nice and brown and crispy unlike these other chippies with enemic undercooked chips, these are amazing thank you 10/10

The Haddock was so overcooked it was dry probably the worst I’ve had the chips were mostly off cuts of potatoes and were hard and ordered 2x mushy peas only received one I’m so disappointed ☹️ for the cost. Badly cooked fish

One of them gems of a chippy. Food was amazing and very tasty and also was delivered piping hot. The delivery driver was friendly too. Would certainly highly recommend this establishment without hesitation!

The best fish and chips ever. And they have tartare sauce as standard. The deep fried mac and cheese bites are heaven. Happy service and top notch food. I always have cod and chips but my other half ordered the chicken burger and loved it. Never have to wait long either. Fab on all counts.

Chips were nice. Sausage was cold. Pea Fritters were cold also but still were nice. The curry sauce was the worst bit for me, it was very bland. Would of prefered it to be a spicy curry sauce, or at least mention that it's sweet not spicy. Gravy for me next time!

I love ordering from here as the food is pretty amazing. I've ordered 4 times but 3 times they've not sent the amount of mushy peas that I ordered.

Food was late, but when arrived was piping hot and delicious. Will order from here again.

Great food again...Pea fritters imo where expensive for the size.

I honestly have never had a small portion of chips hat have been so bad… so bad I haven’t bothered to eat them! £3 lost is no issue but how can you serve up such bad chips? They tasted like frozen chips.. they had to have been left there and certainly were not fresh, some burnt some not and coloured differently showing that they had been sat there for a bit of time. Really disappointing.

Cold food Bag broke in driveway food fell on drive Disaster!!!!!

The driver had obviously not read the delivery instructions and couldn’t seem to find us. He eventually parked where instructions clearly said not to! As a result of the delay our food was cold.

The fish didn’t taste very nice at all, it was more batter.

The order was delivered incorrect, contacted WA14 and they were totally unhelpful. They acknowledged that they had sent the wrong order and as such I felt that it was their problem to sort out but I was told that I had to contact Just Eat to get it sorted out. Did as they asked and was sent a generic message saying that it would take a couple of days to contact us. So I tried ringing but that was an automated message directing me to the Help webpage !!!!

Perfect. Must have been one of the first customers and today had another serving. Quality has never differed! Thanks :)

Thought Id give it a try.... Never again. Must be the worst chippy ive had in years. Stale chips. rip off tastless pie ridiculous prices. If it wasnt for the peas and gravy then the whole lot would of got binned. Very dissapointing.

I read their website about raising the bar and standard of fish and chips. They fall very short of the existing one. Small portion of fish and was soggy as were the chips Do not recommend really

Food great, but unfortunately fell short of our request. We ordered (and paid for) four curry sources. But only one was supplied. Where were the other three? Not a great loss, since two of them were covered by the discount. But a disappointment we'll put down to human error.

I picked up a takeaway recently and it was absolutely delicious! The quality is the best in the area and there was no problem with the wait time. Would recommend.

Since the quality of Alty fish bar has taken a nosedive in recent years, me and my mum have been trying in vain to find a decent, consistent local chippy. My first time trying WA14 and as a vegetarian was really pleased to see battered halloumi in the menu. My mum was really pleased with her fish and chips, despite the high price. I was happy with the chips, the best I've had in the area for years and a good mixture of larger and smaller crispy ones. However the battered halloumi was terrible. Instead of cutting it the normal way, the halloumi was cut across into really thin slices, which meant the batter was thicker than the cheese. Unlike the fish which had crispy batter, the halloumi batter was greasy and soggy and was sitting in a pool of oil. I couldnt finish it and was left with a horrible oily taste all evening. Very frustrating they could get the fish batter so right, but the halloumi so wrong. I will try WA14 again, but will just have chips and avoid the halloumi

The fish and chips was not a large portion for the money - disappointingly small as was the chips Very poor value for money and I don’t think I received a large portion at all. The nearby chip shop THE NEW DON their large portions are double what I received today and better quality and cheaper I will order from there from now on !

Ordered from here a few times now and it never disappoints! My family love it and whenever it’s mentioned as an option, never say no :) meat eating parents love the fish options and I’m a veggie so it’s great to have the option of battered halloumi (which is always amazing)! Received our order exactly when it said it would be delivered and all as we ordered. Will always recommend!

We as a family have been customers from day one. I believe you get what you pay (prices are at the high end) for and from the beginning the standard and quality was at the top of the game. Possibly the best chippy ever. However .. there are continual serious issues. Wait times way beyond acceptable. The minors who work at the counter taking orders have to be the snottiest, rudest, bad mannered individuals that could have been picked. Cost of living: yes it is on the increase. A portion of large chips are now a very portion small chips but the price you pay are for large! Burnt food .. too often .. kept going back because of supporting a local independant .. there are two other local chippies who have been around years longer than the new kid. They have been consistent with quality and quantity. Maybe if they remained at the same level they started at with friendly, polite, well manner counter staff I would not begrudge it so much.

Great fish and chips in Hale Barns - definitely value for money and worth a visit. I've been 4 times recently as I've only just started back travelling in the area and every time the fish (and chips) have been quality. Also, Andrew and his staff are really pleasant and chatty 👍👍

Ordered two mushy peas, only sent one. Chips weirdly tasteless. If I order chips with salt and vinegar I would expect that to be be put on by the takeaway, not just packets sent with it. Vinegar must be on ration in any case as we only got one sachet between two. On the plus side the fish was really nice and decent portions.

Dreadful!! Order placed around 6pm. Got cancelled by WA14 at 8.45pm nearly 3 hours after ordering. No apology, just that they had no drivers. Won't be ordering from them again and I recommend you don't either. 3 hours for fish and chips!! Ridiculous!

Chicken burger was delivered with only bread and butter, no salad or anything else. The chips were disappointing and the gravy had an odd after taste.

Although the food is probably 4/5 Stars the service is probably the worst I have ever seen. Having used this shop at least 20 times I feel perfectly qualified to say that on every occasion I have had to wait ridiculously long times for my food. Tonight I went and simply ordered Fish, Chips and a Sausage and it took 35 mins (Not exaggerating) to get my food. Sorry but enough is enough, I won’t be going back again as I need to spend my time doing things that are important to me and not waiting in a shop with others staring at the walls.

The driver was rude and did not deliver the food. Only offered partial refund

Very good quality food. Was really dissapointed by the size of the "Large" chips. Veggie sausages are just Linda mac's in box with a 350% markup. Mac & Cheese Bites were really tasty. but none of it was really good value for money.

Loved it but we need to buy more tartrate sauce next time!

Delicious food, really, but every time something is forgotten from the order (unless they're running a 2 for the price of 3 on side dishes and decide you don't need the sauce you paid for). It would be nice if they could deliver your order within spitting distance of the original estimated delivery time too... And if you call to chase your order, don't expect any regret for the delay, no matter how long. But great food though.

Every time we order we seem to be short on the amount of gravy we order. I have not complained before, however this is the 3rd time we have been short normally we order 2 and only ever get 1, and it is only a small pot so not as though it is a large, so tonight I ordered 3 hoping we would at least get 2, oh no we got just the one small pot, it is not the money but the principle of the matter. Last time we had an issue we were given a discount, this is to be used within a few day period which is nice but having a limited time is not helpful

Called in yesterday evening after a walk. It was 18.30 ish and placed my order for fish and chips. I then watched as numerous other customers came in, placed their orders and left. After 20 minutes of this, I was told I hadn't been forgotten about. No, I hadn't been forgotten about, just ignored. Finally, after nearly half an hour, I received my order with an insincere apology. It is unquestionably the worst customer experience I have ever endured. There is absolutely no excuse for constantly putting me at the back of the queue so others can be served ahead of me. Needless to say, I will not be returning.
