Fantastic food 2 years on the Run , had lamb Madras, lamb was so soft, garlic kema Nan was amazing so soft and Garlicky, I could move in

Do not miss this incredible restaurant! Or actually, do miss it, because I don't want everyone to find out about it. Incredible, possibly the best Indian meal I've had in thirty years. A tiny, basic little restaurant that only takes cash... but the menu is so exciting and the food.... wow. Just mind blowing. The prices are really reasonable as well and the service is fantastic.

The beautiful Dales village of Hawes might sound like an unlikely place to find an Indian restaurant but, with a little imagination, Hawes could stand in for Shimla, Darjeeling, Ooty, or one of those other Indian hill stations set in a fertile, green valley. Voujon is tucked away in a small courtyard, just off the Market Place, and indeed you could easily miss it, which would be a shame as it’s one of the best Indian restaurants we have visited in the north of England. Inside, the restaurant is small and cozy, decorated by wall coverings featuring festival elephants, and with a warming fire on a cold February evening, adding to the sense that you could well be spending the evening in a delightful hill station restaurant. This was our fifth visit to Voujon and we have never been disappointed. We have rarely strayed far from the usual classics, such as Butter Chicken and Lamb Tikka Masala, but have found the portions generous, the meat tender, and the sauces rich and full of flavour. With a bottle of house dry, white wine, the bill represents excellent value for money.

We ordered a take away to celebrate our silver wedding ( we’re a pjs and glass of wine sort of couple!) and were not disappointed with our choices….everything we ordered - and we ordered a fair bit - Was cooked to perfection and super tasty. VERY generous portions too - best Indian I’ve had for decades! I can highly recommend the chicken chaat, mixed platter, tandoori mixed kebab, Voujon special and chicken Sagwalla. DELICIOUS! All the accompaniments were spot on too. Very speedy, friendly and polite service. Please open a branch Nr Filey!

Ordered a takeaway on a busy new year's eve. Had a great meal. The staff were lovely. Would recommend a takeaway in winter since the seating area is quite cold.

Little Gem of a place. First time visiting as we were staying local. Food was excellent. I have serious allergies and they did everything possible to keep food safe to eat. Food was presented lovely and service was excellent too. Lovely quiet little place. Definitely visit again.

We were looking forward to a curry night in our little cottage in Hawes - Big disappointment. There seems to have been a trend in UK over the past few decades for curry to have become sweeter. Our usual choice is Butter Chicken but a negative TA review citing it as over sweet made us choose a Chicken Tikka Masala, unfortunately same issue! Curry should be savoury, not like a spicy dessert. Other things we ordered were good (although a very strange raita), but the sweet chicken curry ruined it. Also, this place is cash only.

The food was excellent. Wished we lived near here. The only downside was the smell of perfumed candles.

4 of us went last night just before 9pm and they were ready to close. They did seat us in a tight fit table with a mobile heater for heat. The food is excellent but we were rushed so we was not relaxed like it should of been. They only take cash so we had to rummage to see if we had enough cash to pay. Not good in this day and age.

Excellent food. Some new dishes I'd never tied. Good size portions. Lovely presentation. Nice staff. Only downside is the odd and tired decor but the food more than makes up for this

Tasty food and accommodating staff - they were able to get 9 of us in at very short notice. Really did not know this place existed until actually in Hawes; did not show up on eating options before visiting. Food is very tasty and portion sizes reasonable - not as big as other curry houses but I don't think we were left wanting. Good vegetarian options too. Cash only which is unusual now

Called by accident, as the pub restaurants were booked. Looks basic as per decoration but the food and the staff were excellent, we started with poppadoms, my husband had one of the chefs specials, he thought it was one of the best curries he had had, and the Naan bread was excellent, I had the Lamb Padsandra which was tasty as well. Wine was good. Would definitely go back when we next visit.

We have been here several times and usually had a nice meal, unfortunately we wont be returning as we only had 4 small pieces of chicken in each of our meals which probably amounted to one small breast between two meals, sorry but not value for money and not acceptable. Shame that the new portion size will loose them regular customers

Great food for something tasty and good value

The Voujon is without doubt the most wonderful Indian restaurant we have ever eaten at. The food is absolutely sublime, the service warm and welcoming and the atmosphere delightful. We will be back soon!! Nigel and Anne Clarke.

We had a take away. 4 of us had a curry each, rice, bhajis & sag aloo. All dishes were very tasty. Cooked to perfection. Highly recommend. Thank you ☺️

This is an excellent Asian restaurant. So good to find an Asian restaurant in Hawes. Very friendly reception, an excellent menu with some different to normal dishes. Very popular so you must book. Only takes cash but there is a hole in the wall just opposite! They have some good fish dishes.

Honestly, we eat out at alot of restaurants including Indian. I can say we are in hawes for 5 days and ate out here 2 of those. The best Indian food we have ever had through Scotland, Northumberland don't match up to this place. Absolutely incredible food, staff very helpful and friendly and was very reasonably priced. We visited this restaurant on three occasions on our visit to hawes. The restaurant offers excellent tasty food. The food was 5ge best we had in hawes during our visit. Staff were always friendly and attentive. We found the restaurant stood out from the pubs...

Myself and two colleagues popped in for a curry (So we thought). We were greeted with the dreaded phrase…..Cash only. Thats no good if you have to use company credit cards. Oh well…. The pub next door benefited from there loss.

The service is extremely slow Paneer sag and bhindi masala had no salt at all and we're immersed in oil Butter chicken was very sweet nothing close to your expectations. Had a very bad experience Would never visit again., 😞

Having savored butter chicken across the globe, my experience here was disheartening. I ordered butter chicken but received a dish resembling chicken korma – light yellow with coconut gravy. This divergence from the classic flavor profile overshadowed the meal. While other dishes were passable, the misinterpreted butter chicken left a disappointing aftertaste.

Had a really nice meal but be aware of eating at the table for 2 located near to the reception as people coming in for takeaways are stood over you or virtually sat in your lap whilst you are eating. This was very off putting and spoilt the occasion. Can’t fault the food though.

As we walked in the staff immediately looked at the wall clock (they advertise closing at 9:30pm), we had already looked at the menu so were able to order straightaway (if you visit bear in mind that they only accept cash), we were then told to return to collect our order in 30mins (the restaurant was empty). When we returned to collect our order we were told that they had run out of pilau rice so had substituted plain boiled rice (same price). The meals were ok but not as nice as we have eaten from here in previous visits (mine was a very meagre portion with chewy meat). Very disappointed on this occasion.

If you are in Hawes and you enjoy a curry then this place is a must. The restaurant is quite small but the staff are very friendly and the food is of a very high standard, I can honestly say this is one of the best curries I've had.

Sadly the wait for food really put a dampener on our meal. We only ordered two curries with a side of rice and it took just over an hour for this to arrive at our table. I understand the food is fresh, but the curry was not unlike those I've had before, it was really not worth that length of wait, especially in a restaurant that only has about 10 tables. I believe this is due to the takeaway orders too, although these were also taking over an hour at a time. Has potential as the meal was nice, but if you don't want to wait an hour at least I would not recommend.

Looking forward to a indian meal only to find they only take cash payments. Tried to get cash from village atms and found they were all empty. One must wonder in these days especially since covid why a restaurant is only dealing in cash. I suspect but can't confirm the reason for this .

Just had a solo meal at Voujon and it was too notch. Portions big enough for a Bengal tiger and as tasty as anything that has gone before. I was served with a smile by an absolute gent of a waiter too. Would thoroughly recommend...

Great food, lots of choice on the menu and went the extra mile with flavour. Wasn't expecting pea shoot salad on my Bajhis but was very pleasently surprised! The mains were fantastic, really tasty curry with quality ingredients. Very flavoursome. The spiciness guide on the menu is more informative than decorative like in some places, two chilli's means spicy! I had the Rogan Josh, which was probably the tastiest one I've had anywhere. Great service too, very organised and efficient. No long waits for your food, and never had to try get anyone's attention for another drink etc, as you'd already been asked. Lovely little gem tucked away between two pubs in Hawes. Definitely worth a visit.

Living in Asia, I have high standards for curry, and this place didn't disappoint. Succulent meat, fresh spices, and reasonably priced. Would eat here again next time I visit the Dales.

Stayed in Hawes for 6 nights and ate here twice. Delicious food at a good price. It is cash only (a previous review marked down for this), but we were advised on booking, so had time to go to a cash dispenser and so it simply wasn't a problem.

WOW, popped in for a midweek curry, only one man front of house and excelled , fantastic starters, Naga masala was hot hot hot and really tasty, Vindaloo delivered perfectly, perfect size portions for normal humans

Excellent fresh curries full of flavour. We tried the lamb bityani with a madras vegetable sauce and a chicken danzak. Both excellent.

Wrong order in the first place. I asked for butter chicken and got a white korma with way too much coconut. Portion of onion bhajee which where so dry they could have been bird nests. Undoubtedly the worst Indian meal I have ever tried to eat.

This is an excellent Indian restaurant. The food was excellent. The only reason it dropped a star was that the G&T had no ice and was warm. Everything else was fantastic and good value for money.
