Amontola in Richmondshire

Just had the most fantastic takeaway from Amontola, the food was delicious especially the onion bhajis! The Tikka Masala was rich and creamy and the chicken was moist. Very generous portions too. I would definitely recommend this place.

Tbh I don't know how the Amontola has so many high scores ..... the food at best was so-so and rather disappointing. The pickle tray was bland, onion bhajis must have been reheated as beyond crispy , lamb chops bore more than a passing resemblance to pork chops , masala fish was fine but that was the only one . Out main was chicken tika masala in which the sauce was so heavily coloured it was not good on the eye , garlic naan was fair. Our waiter asked how our dinner was and I did say it was so-so and we expected better to which he nodded ( perhaps in agreement) So overall not too good , shame really but there you go.

Food is perfect. Staff are great. ... but it is far too noisy! Large open space with wooden floors. Always busy but you have to shout across the table so conversation is hard. Shame really and a deal breaker for me.

I ordered a takeout I order here every time I visit richmond every year 5 times a year and always come here at least once. Always high standards food and staff are amazing .

I came here for a birthday meal for my mother in law. Great tasting food. Friendly and attentive staff. Good atmosphere. Prices as you would expect for the area. We would definitely come back.

We went here tonight hoping there was a table for two, having not booked as we had walked past earlier and smelled the food. Luckily we were seated and ordered 2 vegan curries with advice from the very friendly waiter. We had boiled rice and a roti between us. We did have 2 poppadoms before the meal. We were happy with the friendly service and food, thank you.

Simply brilliant and delicious and just as good as I remember it from eight years ago. Also worth mentioning that prices are not inflated here like they are in various other curry restaurants. Thanks for another wonderful, freshly cooked & memorable meal.

Food was tasty. If you come from Scotland you just need to order an extra starter as portion sizes are not what you'll get in Scotland. Only criticism would be the lack of sauce in the curries to dip your naan bread in.

Nice food, friendly service. Easy to book, the menu has a number of more unusual dishes and that makes a nice change. Location is fine not far from the centre of town.

Excellent as always, staff always go above and beyond. Food was very tasty and chicken was cooked to perfection. Kids loved their chicken tikka masala and the madras was so tasty.

Very bad Experience… 😡Amontola is money wasting Restaurant 😞Not suitable for indian people..🤮We had some Chicken dishes like chicken tikka masala , chicken tikka quantity is very less and it’s not having indian test the curry was very sweet in test it not added salt only having sugary test .like a “coconut kheer…” we ask to the waiter to replace curry he said only sorry .and we also ordered crispy garlic nan and cheese nan totally burn nan he serve .. we complained him but they didn’t replace nan he said you ordered crispy nan it couldn’t be replace sorry then we again order normal nan he bring half roast nan we feel like we are eating only flour dough… 🤬🤬😡 My daughter order some kids menu butter chicken and rice.. it also had test less rice not having salt curry is like coconut kheer.. 🤮🤮 she didn’t eat.. and waiter said us it’s made for British people…Its not Indian restaurant.. not suitable for Indian people We went asgarth as tourists..it’s not our current city

Turned up without a booking, seated then 20mins later it was nearly full ! Great food, one of the best Biriani I've had a long time. No1 daughter even tried other curry dishes and liked them 😀. Excellent

Only ever had takeaway's from here but I have been impressed with the consistent high quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff.

Oh. Dear. The overall setting and atmosphere of the place is drab and resembles a canteen. The Pepsi max that we asked for was in fact full fat Pepsi and was flat and not cold. We sent it back and got the same back again and no apology. The pickle tray was a measly portion and the mains were bland, the chicken was chewy and charred. The vegetarian meals were plain and were far from fresh. The naan breads were tiny and ripped apart rather than a whole naan. The service was appalling. No apology when we said the food and drink was poor. ZERO thanks for being customers at their restaurant and ZERO farewell when we left. Blue clinical style roll to dry hands on in the bathrooms. Dodgy and inappropriate placement of mirrors in the women’s bathrooms that made us feel very uncomfortable. Dirty walls and radiators next to where we were eating. The best part of the experience was the mint chocolate at the end and the hot cloths!!

First visit. Service was good. Food was underwhelming but that may have been my choice of dish.

We went for a meal on our couples break away. It was one of the best Indians we have ever had. Would highly recommend you won't be disappointed.

Friendly clean food was excellent good atmosphere reasonable price

I have been to this restaurant before and the food was quite nice. However, last time I went there I ordered Tandoori King Prawn Tikka and it was absolutely awful. It was way too sweet, almost felt like a dessert. I know they have some nice dishes but this one made me feel very sick.

Driving through Richmond on a Sunday night, picking up a takeaway from Amontola seemed too good to miss. Set meal for two. Special Starter - Chicken Tikka (dry), Onion Bhaji (greasy), Sheek Kebab (OK) - on the whole quite small and bland). Lamb Bhuna (fatty, didn't even get finished), Chicken Tikka Masala (gloopy bright orange sauce), Bombay Aloo (bland), Mushroom Rice, Nan. Not what it was it seems.

Excellent service and food to die for.

Just had dinner here - what a fantastic place! The food was stunning, we had a selection of dishes and everything was lovely and nicely presented. I was particularly impressed with the Saag Aloo!! Will definitely be back when in the area again

My partner and I tried a takeaway from here, and it was by far the best Indian takeaway we’ve had! We have a few Indian takeaways in our town, but would much rather travel to Richmond to get a takeaway as good as what we had from here. Would 100% recommend!

We went here on the 11th October 23. The service was good. The food was very tasty with good sized portions and reasonably priced. Would definitely go again.

The food was overall bland and the butter chicken curry tasted very much like a korma. My partner detests coconut and there was no indication of this on the menu as it's the first time he's ever come across a butter chicken curry that contains coconut. When the waiter came to ask us how the food was, my partner told the waiter that he wasn't happy with his dish. No offer of an alternative was given and they just argued with us that everyone has their version of the recipe and it was our problem not there's. My partner ended up leaving his food and sharing my biryani instead. We were made to pay £12 for something he barely touched. Poor customer service and the food lacked flavour and spice. Atmosphere is also very tacky and the acoustics are painful if people next to you shouting at the top of their voices.

(an early Friday night) Nice Indian decor. The service was good and smooth and not in your face. Drinks, poppadoms and food ordered, let's start. Minutes later drinks arrive, then poppadoms, 15 mins to eat these and natta, then mains arrive. Ordered my absolute usual pathia with extra coriander. Was nice( could have been more Scoville advanced) but had plenty of chicken with plenty coriander, was a nice pleasant and tasty meal. 7/10. I think all 3 of us enjoyed our meal. In and out in under 2 hrs for £30 a head. Done, would eat there again. By the time we left was pretty full up so book ahead, I guess?

This is our favourite Indian restaurant the food is always excellent. The service is always faultless. Highly recommended - so much better than any of the other local Indian restaurants in the area.

Ordered starters and two curries with naan and rice. Collected in person, food took a little longer than was told. Once home it was pretty cold already so needed reheating but the curries were swimming in grease which needed spooning off. Rice dish was nice. Usually after a curry you still have the smell and taste but it was pretty bland. Also everything tasted incredibly sweet like they’d added sugar. Actually 3 stars was being generous. I wouldn’t use this place again for takeaway

My sisters and I had dinner here recently. The food was excellent, and all the staff extremely pleasant and polite. Our waiter Az was very friendly and found time to chat to us. He is very entertaining . We enjoyed the evening, though being midweek the restaurant was not full so was fairly quiet. However, it is a large restaurant and we expect at weekends there would be more diners so more atmosphere. The prices were very reasonable and we would definitely come here again if we should find ourselves back in Richmond, North Yorkshire. Highly recommended.

Great takeaway. Amazing food. Worth the extra drive from Colburn.

If you want a really good curry then go to the Amontola. I had lamb jalfrazi and I can say it was the best on I have ever had. It just the right amount of spice. If you enjoy a good curry and are in Richmond then I would recommend you give the Amontola a visit.

We had a takeaway from here, the food was just Luke warm when it arrived perhaps using Tin foil containers would help.

Thank you for a wonderful night, the King Prawn Hatkorah was amazing, I love wild Lemon. Staff were so accommodating to my friend with her special food requirements. All 4 of us enjoyed our food. I just can't believe my husband expected me to share my rice! It was a great night we had fabulous banter with the waiter. Be back soon.

Fantastic food brilliant take away

Went for a takeaway on a recommendation from a lad we met in a pub. Food was delicious and plenty of it too. I had a lamb dish and my wife had chicken dish both were really tender. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Friendly staff but incredibly stingy portions. Mu vegetable curry was essentially a small amount of spicy cabbage eaten in about three mouth fulls. £10!!

When we visited, about 5pm, it was easy to get a table, although it started getting busy later. All of the staff were very helpful, friendly and efficient. We couldn't decide what to have so had the fixed menu for two, plus a bottle of wine. The food was superb and if we visit the area again we will definitely go again. It is up some steep stairs for those with mobility issues. Attractive and clean décor.

Our first time here and it was a fabulous experience. We had the set meal for 2, a bottle of wine and coffee for 2. Extremely good quality food and the service was impeccable. We felt very relaxed and comfortable in the restaurant. All of the staff were friendly and helpful.

Staying nearby in a lodge on a break and ordered a takeaway for the family!! Wow, it was amazing, best Indian meal I have ever had. Be careful, the portions are huge and you certainly get a lot of meat in the curries, cannot recommend enough, fantastic!!!

I have been to the Amontola Restaurant many times. As a West Yorkshire lad I have dined in many Indian restaurants. The Amontola is up there with the best. It is immaculately clean with nice decor which gives an upmarket appearance. The staff are really helpful and polite and the menu straightforward and easy to choose from. The food is excellent, the onion bhaji I had for starters was really good, one of the nicest I have eaten. I have tried many of the main dishes and they never disappoint. Last night I had chicken tikka methi with a peshwari nan which was really good - the curry sauce was nice and spicy and a really thick consistency which is how I like my curries. The Nan was excellent. Portion sizes are very generous and the food nicely presented. The staff clearly take pride in the food and service they offer. If you are looking for an affordable meal out and like Indian food then I really recommend the Amontola. I have often said you can’t get a good curry out of Bradford - the Amontola proves you can.

We usually love this place but unfortunately the last time we went, my husband and mother in law both got food poisoning. We knew from what we had eaten that day, that it was definitely from here, and both of them had the chicken korma. We were first to sit in the restaurant. Despise this, we will be back as we have had great food previously, just a shame this happened.

Normally have standard chicken korma and chicken tikka which are both delicious.Tonight we had a change,I had chicken tikka Hariali mild,has a slight kick,but yummy with crean & lots of spinach,a real treat.We also ordered Chicken Tikka Mulglai also a mild dish,full of flavour.All the staff friendly and helpful.We love to get our Indian takeaway here.Will try restaurant as it always seems to be busy.

We called one quiet Monday night whilst staying in Richmond. You have to go upstairs which I not a fan of as you cant see what the place is like. Luckily it was really nice. Onion bhajis brilliant. Chicken tikka start was incredible. Sri Lanka curry said hot and it was ! Chicken palak so nice. The portions huge and the chicken was plentiful and tasted so nice. Big thick chapatis and the naan tasted so fresh. Noticed lots of veggie choices. Good choice menu and drinks menu. All the staff we chatted so nice and we thanked them for such a fresh and lovely meal.

Arrived at the restaurant without a booking. This was not a problem at all. We were shown to a table where menus were waiting . We ordered drinks and although one was incorrect, it was changed without any hesitation at all and apologies were given Food was amazing as usual. I cannot find any fault with the restaurant, food or staff. Just a perfect night out , thank you

We have been here twice in two weeks! Really good food, lovely staff and great atmosphere.

We visited as a group of 8 for a 50th Birthday Celebration. The booking was made via the website and then confirmed by phone. I'd love to tell you how amazing the food was and what a lovely place it is. However they denied all knowledge of our booking and made me out to be a liar. There was no apology or attempt to seat us. We were sent on our way with the guy saying no problem instead of sorry!!!

Fantastic menu to choose from - but the Sag Paneer was something else! Great portions, and only too happy to box everything up so we could have the same meal again back at home the following night. Service was excellent

Order made by telephone and the estimated time of collection was accurate. The staff are very pleasant and the food was plentiful and very good value for money. We all ordered different dishes and the food was consistently excellent and enjoyed by everybody.

Edit Just returned here after nearly a year and glad to say the food is as good if not better than the last time. Succulent juicy King prawns, tender melt in the mouth lamb in delicately balanced flavourful sauces. Portions again were plentiful. Staff are all really friendly and helpful. Quite simply one of the best Indian meals we have ever had and we are a well travelled couple who have eaten in some of the best around. If you like Indian food, it's a must go to if your in Richmond. Stunning food!
